Brian Dawkins has been named the Broncos recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, it was announced on Tuesday at a press conference at the Sports Legends Museum in Baltimore.
One member of each of the NFL’s 32 teams was selected by his teammates to receive the award, on the basis of exemplifying a commitment to sportsmanship and courage. The award was first given to a player from each team during the 1984 season.
This is the first such award that Dawkins has earned over his 14-year career. All 32 Ed Block Courage Award recipients from around the NFL will be honored at a banquet in Baltimore in early March.
The Ed Block Courage Award Foundation is an NFL-supported charity dedicated to recognizing courage around the league, while helping improve the lives of abused and neglected children in NFL cities.
Past Broncos to receive the award include S Marquand Manuel in 2008, DE John Engelberger in 2007, LB Louis Green in 2006, TE/T Dwayne Carswell in 2005, and G Dan Neil during the 2004 season.

Congrats Dawk!!! You are a tremendous Football player but even more so off the field, a real class act. Very glad your a Bronco and hope you will be for at least a couple more years.
Wow, I’d sure like to see the past 14 recepients from Philly? I can’t believe that you never got it over there; way to go, Dawk!
BDAW, CONGRATULATIONS!
One of the BEST signings ever in the National Football League! It is an honor and pleasure to watch you and have you wearing the orange and blue!
I was blessed with your jersey on Christmas!
yeah woooooo!
GO GET EM’ BDAWK!
Lots of respect from Illinois
Take note this award has been won by Marquand Manuel!?!?!? I mean, obviously it is not really based on what you do on the field. LOL.
It must be courage in life, for the life of me I don’t remember anything courageous Manuel did on the field last year.
broncfalls, it must be nice to be young, or young enough to get Bronco stuff for christmas, like I hear many guys here got, now I don’t even get socks and underwear anymore, LOL, I have to buy all my Bronco stuff. Envious guy here.
Unlike Marquand Manuel, Dawk can actually play. In all seriousness, congrats Dawk!
As a long time Eagles fan, no one is better deserving of this award that B-Dawk. He has showed, time and again, why we love him in Philly and why we love him now in Denver. We love the way he plays the game and the way he leads by example. He is an awesome player and a highly regarded example of what a role model in the NFL should be. Sometimes they get it right with the Courage Award and this is one perfect example of them getting it right. Denver, you have a quality player on your team that Philadelphia fans truly miss having on their team.
