Dawkins Press Conference Live Blog

February 28th, 2009 - 2:15pm by Adam Zinser

1:15 p.m. MST: We’re 15 minutes away from the start of the press conference, and the media is starting to trickle in.

1:21 p.m. MST: We’ve got some print reporters filing into the team room and more video cameras being set up in the back.

Right now we’re just testing to make sure all the audio/video equipment is working, and pretty soon we’ll be listening to Dawkins.

1:31 p.m. MST: We should be just a few minutes away, as the press conference was scheduled to begin now. There are more reporters and Broncos staff members in the team room now.

1:34 p.m. MST: Members of the Dawkins family have entered the room and sat down up front, so I expect we’ll start any minute.

1:36 p.m. MST: And we will apologize in advance. All the traffic on the site has slowed things down, but I’ll get all the information to you from the press conference as quickly as I can.

Dawkins has entered the room and taken the podium.

1:36 p.m. MST: Head Coach Josh McDaniels is at the podium, introducing Dawkins.

“Brian Dawkins is a special, special person and an even better player.”

“One of the things I realized once free agency opened is he’s exactly what the Denver Broncos are looking for. He’s dedicated and serious about the game,” McDaniels said. “He wants to come to a place where he can win. It’s our priveledge to add him as the newest Denver Bronco. He’s going to provide us with great leadership, great attitude.”

1:39 p.m. MST: Dawkins has taken the podium, and McDaniels has presented him with an orange No. 20 Broncos jersey.

Now Dawkins has made his opening remarks.

“This is an absolute blessing. I’m a blessed man… I’ve been blessed to play for a great organization and to come to another great organization… I was able to meet some of the young guys that I’ll have the priveledge of playing with. I’m kind of jumping around with my words right now because I’m so emotionally excited.”

1:42 p.m. MST: He has started taking questions now and was asked about his level of play.

“This is a day to celebrate. We’ve been blessed to be with this organization. (I will play) as many as he blesses me to play at a high level.”

On what he’ll do to get the defense back on track — “We’re going to get on this right away. The thing about it is you try to gel as quickly as possible. Once you gel, you just do your role. If that’s the mentality and everybody is taking care of their gap, we’re going to be a pretty good defense, creating turnovers along the way.”

1:45 p.m. MST: On the challenge in the secondary — “The challenge for me is to, first of all, I’m not going to think my guys up front can’t get pressure. I’m going to believe they will whoop the guys in front of them. IN those instances that they get blocked or whatever, we’re going to have to do our job in the backfield — give them a second or two to get to the quarterback. If we’re both doing our jobs at the same time, it’s a dominant defense.”

On his leadership — “I only know how to be one thing — I genuinely care for the guys that I play with. That’s the kind of relationship I build with guys. We have conversations about everything, not just football. We get ot know each other on and off the field. The thing that I’ve always believed in a defense is you have 100 percent trust the guy next to you. But not just trust them, you have to respect them. We’re going to have respect for one another… Everyone is going to come in and do their job, but not just do it — be excited about it.”

1:47 p.m. MST: On what it was about McDaniels that enticed him to come to Denver — “I drank the orange kool-aid. It’s all about winning. It’s about his passion and his leadership, and I bought into it right away.”

1:48 p.m. MST: On what was important about a destination where he could end up, in terms of his family — “You see my family here — they mean the world ot me. I want to make sure they’re somewhere they’ll be happy. I want them to flourish and bloom. I was in Philadelphia for 13 years. I could practically drive to work with my eyes closed. From everything I’ve heard of this place and once I got here and saw the beautiful surroundings, I think I’m going to love this place. I wasn’t skeptical — it was just a lot of deep thought.”

1:49 p.m. MST: On playing at INVESCO Field at Mile High — “It didn’t end too well (laughs). When I’m on the road, I’m not paying attention to the fans there. My focus is on the job at hand. I know about the tradition here, the winning tradition. I know about the safeties that have come through here and been flat-out terrors. Hopefully I’ll be able to jump right in there.”

1:50 p.m. MST: On when he first thought of himself as a Denver Bronco — “I think when I first got over here today and saw the orange jersey. I went to Clemson and wore orange, so I’m going to wear orange again with this defense. I’m going to wear it with pride and hold it up high.”

1:52 p.m. MST: On the importance of community work — “I’ve been blessed so much with my time in the NFL that that’s a part of who I am. I believe, with my faith, that that’s what it’s about — to give. Once I get out here with my feet on the ground, I’ll be able to step out and see what areas the Lord wants me to go to.”

1:53 p.m. MST: On if he’s excited to play Philadelphia in 2009 — “Do we know who we’re playing in our first game? That’s who I’m excited about playing. That first preseason game, I’m excited about that.”

1:54 p.m. MST: On what made him decide to come here, knowing he wants to win now at this point in his career — ” Just lisetening to Josh and his excitement. They’re reaching out to start something and do something now. You didn’t hear any wavering in what they said. They weren’t searching for words. What they felt is what they told me, and I believed it.”

1:57 p.m. MST: He said he has not yet spoken with any of his new defensive teammates but he looks forward to talking with all of them very soon.

That ends the press conference, and now he’s taking photos with his family. His kids are all wearing Broncos gear, and Dawkins just put on his orange No. 20 jersey.

2:00 p.m. MST: We will have the video online as soon as possible, followed by a one-on-one interview with the newest Bronco.

You Should be ashamed of yourselves bronco fans. A Rumor is a rumor so have faith and believe that cutler will not be traded.
If you believe these childish rumors then you are not a true bronco fan.

AT least we have a awesome saftey……DAWKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. champ24crush says:

Now that’s a true fan broncoAI keep it positive and hopefully we will have Ward tomorrow.

  3. BroncoAussie says:

I wonder what 07elway has to say about the Culter thing, she is in love with the guy.

  4. bleedinorange+blue says:

forgive my being nieve, but just who is this Ward?

  5. Broncosmaniac7 says:

Firstly What Is A Rumor? Seriously Think About It Where There Is Smoke There Is Fire…Did Someone Wake Up This Morning & And Say What The Heck Let’s Start A “RUMOR” About Jay Cutler & Try To Drive A Wedge Between He And His New Head Coach Or Could It Be That The New Head Coach (Formerly Of The New England Patriots Albeit As O Coordinator) Fielded Calls From His Former Team As Well As K.C. & Detroit The Phone Should Of Been Hung Up Right Away Not After Hearing What Three Teams Have To Say About Your Best Chance At Winning…To All Put Your Selves In Jay Cutlers Shoes….From A TRUE DENVER BRONCOS FAN!!!!!!!!

  8. broncosaldaway says:

hey were all supposed to b on the same team her wats goin on here

  9. cutler6rocks says:

im sorry for all the negative comments but i just like cutler and i hate to hear people bash him…i like what is going on and i think if we keep cutler we will be contenders this year

    Go Broncos

    i have faith

  10. doz13r says:

i just heard that lewis is not going back to the ravens. now denver and the chiefs are looking at him

  11. WelcometoBroncoCountry says:

Well I am back and probably for the last time tonight. I have faith in Cuttie. He is young and still needs some polishing. But so is our entire Offense. Brandon will be ok. He was a great this year besides the drops he stayed out of trouble and I really believe he has learned from his mistakes. But as for our new coach I dont trust him. He has to earn it with me. And it will take more than just next season. Because once again this is still Shanahan’s Offense he put together. yeah u can add a few new people but the main core Mike put together so lets not go celebrating McD yet. Because he still a Beli protege and no one has yet to inform me on a coach that came out of his system and was successful. None. From Charlie (bust) Romeo (bust he lost juliet) to all the rest. System guys going to teams that are not system oriented often spells disaster

  12. TheBroncoFan30 says:

First off let me say that it is awesome that Dawkins is now a denver bronco. I hope he still can play at the competitive level that he has been in Philly.

Now I don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but I am thoroughly disappointed in the notion that McD and Xanders even considered trading Cutler. All the information that I have gathered is that it is more than just rumors. Although I am reading and hearing 2 different stories. NFL Network stats that the broncos were contacted by the Buccaneers and Lions while the Blog on ESPN and even sportscenter were talking like denver contacted new england to try and work the deal and they even tried to work it out through the vikings first (before they got rosenfels) prior to the Buccaneers and Lions. I think a lot of people forgot how cocky and arrogant John Elway was when he came to denver. He wasn’t going to play football if the colts drafted him so lucky denver did. Even look at Elways stats compared to Cutlers. Cutler has surpassed quit a few of Elways stats up to this point in their careers. (Dont get me wrong, Cutler has a way to go before he is considered even in the same realm as Elway, but Cutler is most definitely on his way) A few people complain that Cutler hasn’t done anything up to this point in his career, yet I beg to differ. If it wasn’t for Cutler last year, denver would not have been 500. If you remember when Cutler had a bad game so did denver. When Cutler was hot, denver looked almost unstoppable. What happened to developing players over a few years. This is Culter’s third year and he is already considered among many to be an elite qb in this league. Ya it will take some more work and time to develop him into the best, but that is what it takes is time. You live and die by the sword with Cutler. Those 1 or two bonehead throws he makes sometimes, that turn into interceptions are also the same plays that he makes 100 times over and is very successful. He has confidence in his arm that he can make darn near every pass on the field and he has as some point or another. I don’t know any other quarterback out there that has the whole package that cutler has. Arm strength, mobility/running, smarts (when he is not over confident). Now lets look at Cassel. Everybody is so high on him after 1 year as a starter. Not only that, he is a plug player into a team that a year earlier was considered probably one of the best if not the best team in NFL history. To me there is no comparison. I have been a bronco fan for as long as I can remember. I have experienced the ups and downs with the team with the trading of players and changing of personnel. I was very upset about the Shannahan thing, but I started to like McD in what he was doing until this point. I know its about the team and not the players, but when you are trying to get rid of your franchise players for some possibilities or better relationships, you start losing the team and hurting the team. You can not make a better team and get the respect of a team by stabbing your franchise players in the back. Who would want to play for you then.
I really hope Jay and McD can work through this. Otherwise I might take a break from being a broncos fan while McD is still in town.

Sorry about the length, but I feel I need to stick up for a guy who was a big reason why we were still in the playoff race up until the end last year.

  13. broncos14441 says:

So, is this the end? I hope not. I don’t know what else to say except that you screwed up McDaniels. You screwed up big time.

  14. broncos14441 says:

    TheBroncoFan30-

I agree on with you here

“I really hope Jay and McD can work through this. Otherwise I might take a break from being a broncos fan while McD is still in town.”

  15. samlax16 says:

we need to keep the faith in him. As long as he is a Bronco, he is my QB. But, McD better fix this. And Denhomers, it’s obvious that you’re just a mad raiders fan go take a prozac crankypuss.

  16. 07elway says:

BroncoAussie – yeah I’m in love with the guy… such a cutie!!! Back to the real story, I’ve said quite a bit about this. On this blog, Coop’s new blog, Dawkin’s PC blog… I’ve said a thing or two and I HATE the idea of this. And that’s just the idea of Cutler going somewhere else… if it actually happens, I’ll lose my mind.

I just don’t get how they can toy with the idea of letting him go. I mean it should speak volumes that if all these other teams are wanting him so bad WE SHOULD KEEP HIM!!!! Its a GREAT thing that they want him because then it shows McD & Xanders that he’s that BIG of a deal… we finally found a solid QB after years of searching for something even remotely close to Elway. We found someone, why in the world would they even think about letting him go. And I agree, this has gotten way out of hand but I’m just livid that this idea is even rolling around. I’m dying to hear from McD or Xanders that this is all BS and they won’t let him go AND I want to hear that Cutler never expressed any idea that he wants to leave. That would be more devastating to me, that he would want to leave after all the speculation. This is a HUGE mess… I just can’t fathom this.

There’s another long-winded comment about this… I could go on like this for hours. Like I said on Coop’s blog – don’t get me started on this. I’ve been trying so hard not to comment on this, I’m making myself so mad.

    With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09, with Cutler!!!!!

  17. mrbroncofan says:

who wouldn’t want cutler? If you were 0 – 16 wouldn’t you want to land a proven qb. and maybe cutler is angry. wouldn’t you be if someone was trying to pull you from something so great. i don’t blame cutler for not wanting to leave such a great team i don’t blame detroit or tampa for trying to get a powerfull qb like cutler. really cassel has not played but one season and is not as good as jay. the fact is mcd turned these two teams away which was the right thing of coarse. what do you mean he entertained the idea? when your phone rings don’t you answer it. he didn’t entertain the idea he just listened to what they had to say when they contacted him. i am glad we have a coach and gm that would do that. i’m almost honored that they want what we have which is a franchise qb and a future at the top of the nfl. those that are upset why not look at this positively. we have what they want. they are on the outside looking in. this has not been directed to anyone. just been reading a lot about how people are upset or don’t like mcd. give him a chance. right now he has not lost a single game for us.

  18. fit4denver says:

McDAINELS: If you tarde Culter the Denver fans would probably lynch you. You are a smart guy so use your head!

  19. kase78matt says:

i hate sayin it cause i love this team. my room my life is based around denver broncos but if we let jay go im not watchin denver till mcd’s gone. now to be honest i dont think were stupid enough to get rid of jay. jay brings more than a strong arm to denver hes the best leader on the O

  20. kase78matt says:

ive decided im not gunna assume those comments were true but i hope to ease the pressure mcd addresses the media bout it

  21. bronco-blaze says:

Guys please! look im as Effin pissed off as all of you..But lets just sit down and think about the full story. I looked into the actual blogg on NFl, and other information..I found all of them said the same thing! They stated people were aiming for cutler blah blah for a 3 way trade for us to get cassle *spelling sorry* BUT! Even for Cassle, he did not take the trads((obviosly)) But the thing that kinda sucks is that he would even consider the thought of it. yea your a GM and its your job, but Mcdenver hasnt been here as long as us fans have and hasnt built the chemestry with Cut like we have. Though it was a dumb move because now he has to calm down Cutler and the locker room which im sure is upset. I kinda agre with the whole its bussiness, nothing personal issue. But LETS ALL REMEMBER! IF it was more than personal and bussiness im sure McD would have taken Cassle because of their past chemestry! I hope Cutler just calms down and his teamates like Marshall talk to him and make him realize that they denied his trade offers!
Now im still worried that something may happen, and maybe i read this wrong but after the Xianders article they said Mc D had no comment?? Thats not good. But im sure Cutler will stay here, and i think its just silly Words and situations taken out of proportion! Lets just all praise that we got some one like dawkens! Well for all of you that actualy read this post thanks ;-) and im sorry this was so long.

    -Blaze

  22. Cutlercountry08 says:

The broncos should be ashamed of how this situation has escalated. amidst a great off-season move like picking up brian dawkins that let a situation like cast a dark shadow over denver. this is very distasteful. one thing denver is, is an honorable organization.. i definately think its unprofessional and disrespectful of Xanders and Mcdaniels to even toy wit the idea of trading the new face of our franchise. for someone like matt cassel. who was mediocre compaired to Jay cutler. im very disapointed and a little sickened by the situation.. im jus hopin the situation goes over quickly. u dnt just have rumors like tradin jay floating around with out expecting consequiences. if jay leaves it would rip that offense apart and xanders nd mcdaniels would have broken somethin they wouldnt be able to fix. nd theyd be outta denver quicker than either of them could say “matt cassel”!!

Hopefully ill hear some refreshing news tomorro nd not some devastating bullsh$#t like this !! Go broncs in 09 wit CUTLER

ND they better not trade stokely OR SCHEIFFLER or ill be lIVID!!! this is ridiculous

    LLAATTTERRRR DUUDDDEESSS

  23. broncos20 says:

    amen to that Cutlercountry08.

    Cutlers staying. Period

  24. pshizzle27 says:

i’m not the first and definately not the last to say ****you mcdaniels for trying to trade away cutler for your boy cassel…life long denver fan but part of me wants him to go to another team and kick your ass now everytime he plays against you.

  25. bronc fan in WA says:

I wonder what McDaniels wouldve done if he got the Colts job….. trade Peyton Manning to get Cassel? Maybe trade Manning for a Rex Grossman?

Sounds like something this “young brialliant mind” would do

  26. JCW145Bronco says:

Cutler is the Bomb!!!!!!!!!! He will stop making those rookie pick sixes this season and offense will be #1 in the league. I really wish that McDaniels would have picked up Bart Scott also. I wouldn’t really mind if Stoklry was traded because we could get a great defensive player or a great possesion Reciever for him but Stokley is a good leader though. Oh yeah We gotta get Rey Mauluga in the draft. He’s gonna be a beast like Polamolu.

  27. bleedinorange+blue says:

Enough flak on McD, guys! Don’t forget that Jay’s still in the Orange and Blue! Some people on here are starting to tick me off. This whole thing’s being blown outta proportion. Just cool off and think about the situation; Nobody in the NFL is nearly dumb enough to get rid of Jay. He’s a great young QB full of raw talent. sometimes he’s a little immature, and sometimes he’s not the smartest player at QB, but he’s got time to learn. The thing that really makes me upset is that I think this is going to be a rebuilding year. Our Offense is established, but the Defense needs lot of work. I’m not saying that we’re not contenders, but we need to remember that the other team in our division-the one that really matters- is San Diego, who is a well-established, talented, and smart football team. With as young as our team’s gonna be next year, defensively anyway, things could go either way. Either Dawkins will help Nolan create the Orange Crush reborn, or they’ll look like a bunch of rookies trying too hard. I’m really hoping for the Orange Crush II, though.

  28. sdcampos says:

This whole thing makes no sense to me!! The Patsies trade Vrabel and Cassel to K.C. for a 2nd round draft choice. The reports I have been hearing is that the Xanders and McMoron we going to give up J-Cut and our first round pick to get Cassel. Now I’m assuming that Cutler would have gone to either Tampa or Detroit and the Pats would have gotten the first round pick. If New England new these talks were going on why wouldn’t they have waited for one of those deals to happen and get a first round pick(the 12th) as oppsed to trading those two for a second rounder. Just makes no sense to me!!!!!!!!!! If the Pats new these talks were going on and they pulled the trigger early then their front office turned into a bunch of idiots overnight!!! If thats the case then my 2nd favorite team in the nfl is the patsies!!!!!LOL!!!!!

My Second thought is what are Pat Bowlens’ thoughts on all this. I can not and will not believe that he was a part of this!! I can’t believe that he would be willing to part ways with Cutler. Remember back in the day when Reeves wanted to get rid of Elway and Pat said Bye-Bye Dano. Even after Pat let Shanny go he was on the phone with Jay calming him down. Like I said none of this makes any sense to me. And God for bid any of this be true than McSh**head is off to a bad start.

Any way Broncomaniacs let me know what you think…. I live in North Carolina and NC IS BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!!!!!

    JAY CUTLER BRONCO FOR LIFE!!!!

  29. egybronco says:

Mr. Bowlen please fix this today.

  30. egybronco says:

Is there anymore news on the Cutler issue.

  31. DenverDaveinPA says:

First off, where is our supposedly new owner being more ‘hand’s on’ and open at? Would love to hear from him. If Denver, er, I mean New England West, trades Cutler that would be the worst decision imaginable. McDaniels and Xanders, I have lost the faith. It is one thing to listen, but, please, I don’t believe the whole…”they inquired and called” stuff. McDaniels said his relations with NE ‘stirs the pot more’…yeah, no kidding jabronie. That’s why I wanted R Morris as coach in the first place. Looks like he knows what he is doing. Ruined is the excitment over the BDawk signing and pending Derrick Ward visit today. I can see it now. JCut plays out his last 3 years and heads to where Shanny will be coaching. Heck, watch Marshall and Scheffler bolt as well. They all win a Super Bowl together. Period.

  32. DenverDaveinPA says:

sdcampos: IMO: I think the reason behind Bill Bellacheat trading Cassel to KC was for one reason…to stick it to an ex-assistant coach and to have Bronconation stirred up an angry at him. Seriously, if you are New Eng where would you want Cassel? Denver or KC? Cassel in KC can’t hurt you like Cassel in Denver. And I am getting tired of people crying that Cutler is a baby because of all of this. Let’s assume you are employed. Further, let’s assume you are the best in your company at what you do and you’ve learned your company is being bought by someone else. One day, you learn from a coworker (media) you will lose your job because the new management doesn’t want you all of a sudden because they think the person at their former job is better than you because they already know how they want the company run. Tell me you are not disappointed and shocked? Tell me you wouldn’t set out to find a new job on your own right away? Yeah, thought so, people.

  33. royalbroncofan1 says:

Some Teams called on him, but why would they, unless he was made available for trade bait. Can’t believe we almost lost Jay Cutler. It’s true, it is a business but QB’s with Jay’s skill level don’t come around often.
Great to see the signing of some F/A’s (Dawkins & Buckhalter).

  34. 66forHOF says:

I like Cutler and w/ that being said I’m glad he’s unhappy. Sure Cutler is good, but not great Cutler has been involved in to many of the executive desicions and it was feeding his ego. I think he was starting to turn into Phillip Rivers, yelling at his recievers and now acting like this. Cutler you are a player on the team you are not the whole team. Hopefuly he’ll step up his game and McDaniels and him can stop this from becoming a Reeves Elway relationship.

  35. Just D says:

First of…for all of you that were praising mcdaniels as our new coach, Deal with it now…
I was saying, we should have gone after Rex Ryan of Baltimore. Look what he is doing with the NY Jets..Making them into a true defensive team.
As for the Brian Dawkins trade…dont get me wrong..he is a good player but he is older and we should have given him a 2year deal..not 5
If we are going to sign players that are older on defense, then sign Ray Lewis and pair him up with ray Maleauga. As for him thinking of trading..I hope that is only a rumor and Jay needs to know that is just a rumor. He should realize that they fired Reeves before they got rid of their franchise QB in Elway…So relax Jay…Mcdaniels will be fired before they let you go.
Again, please stop asking for running backs in free agency! Derrick Ward is just too expensive. There are a couple of decent RB in the drafts like mccoy from pitt and Brown from Uconn. If we are intertaining a rb in free agency then wait for edgerin james or even larry Johnson. Both backs can do wonders for our team on offense, but what we need here in Big D is Defense. If you are reading this mcdaniels, please stop picking up your old new england players and trying to make it like them…
This is your team, so then mold it to your image and not belicheks

  36. CARAMELLOO says:

Man Cutler needs to just shut up and play ball! This happens every year with every team in every sport! He’s not the first star athlete to have his name thrown around in trade talks, and he surely won’t be the last!

Whether it’s true or just rumors……………. HE’S STILL A BRONCO! Some of yall kill me talking bout yall are sick to your stomach and all that. I hate to see what happens the day Champ leaves Denver.

I’ll admit I was kinda mad when I heard about us getting 2 new WR’s which might put my boy Stokley on the out, but I’m just a fan and have NO say so on who we pick up and let go.

I’m gonna support this team like I’ve done since I was 5 years old no matter what. This a new coach and he has every right to make changes to the system and team.

  37. brian_schneider says:

I don’t know the whole story about Cutler/Cassel thing but McDaniels would have to be an idiot to do a trade like that. I’m glad he didn’t and even if he did Bowlen wouldn’t even let him think about it. Cutler is the face of this franchise. Besides Cassel isn’t a good fit in our system. He can’t be as mobile as Cutler. I don’t care what anyone says yeah it’s a business and all that but like many have said a QB like Cutler doesn’t come around very often. Culter IS the Elway of this generation. Anyway lets work some more on our D.

  38. imready says:

Have faith in your owner and his staff guys! Just because another franchise is disappointed that they couldn’t pry Jay Cutler away from our team and they(Tampa or Detroit) leak an ugly story to the press doesn’t mean the Denver staff betrayed him. Guess the media did their job because they got everybody’s attention . They don’t care about the Denver Broncos , all they care about is their ratings! Lets stick together and show some faith and trust in the best football organization in the NFL.
    Go Broncos!

  39. DenverDaveinPA says:

I love the fact Ward is coming in for a visit. That being said, he has visited 2 teams and because he wants Michael Turner money he left without an offer both times. The price tag is falling I believe. McCoy will be gone in the late first round, my guess Arizona. DBrown is solid but no way you take him in Rd 2 at pick 44 because he likely is gone anyways and if not, still can’t pull that trigger. Got to go D with the first 3 picks.

  40. Broncoryan says:

I will say something right now. Yeah, I know there are a *few* Bronco fan that are Jay Cutler nay-sayers, think he runs at the mouth a little too much, think we can do better. Does anybody realize what McDaniels system is going to do for Cutler? He is a going to be a BEAST along with the rest of the offense. He also has this off-season to work more on yes….the mistakes he makes, but hey he is a young guy. But for what I think is the MAJORITY of Broncos fans Bowlen and McDaniels better know most of there fan-base is gonna be pissed if they even think about this move. Like Brian_schnieder said, he is the face of this franchise. You DONT TRADE a franchise QB. I sure hope the quotes from McDaniels are true, that teams were knocking on there door, that his name was not out there on the open market. Besides, if I was Jay and delt to Detroit, I would retire!!! A QB going to Detroit is a death sentence. I hope McD can repair his relationship with his franchise QB. Cause it sounds like Cutler is pissed and I don’t blame him. I would really be stabbed through the back as a fan if this would have happened. You dont even think about getting rid of my Vandy rep in the Broncos locker room McD or else as I read Cutler said in a quote on a other news site “there will be problems here if I am traded” or something like that.

    GO BRONCOS!

brian_schneider “Besides Cassel isn’t a good fit in our system” its mcdaniels system the same one he was in last year and this trade wont happen all speculation they cant afford to piss off all the bronco fans by trading jay

jmendoza is right. Cutler is the F*%kin offense! Every game we played in depended on if he was having a bad day or a great day. And besides he was in the top 5 ranked quarterbacks this season. Why the Hell would McDaniels trade a top 5 ranked quarterback for a guy that hadnt started in years up until this one? WTF Josh huh? Now look what you did! YOu pissed off your franchise QB!!!!! WHAT AN IDIOT!

The office is paid to make the office decisions when they’re at work. The players are paid to make the player decisions when they’re at work. Cutler needs to settle down and quit flying off the handle to the press. Who knows what kind of talk went on or how in depth it went. It’s a business, of course they’re going to talk about proposed deals. It seems clear that they didn’t initiate the calls, and most importantly, did not accept the offers. Granted, something funny went on (or is going on), but just don’t believe everything you read. Most of the articles I’ve read had created alot of their own drama.
Cutler shouldn’t have come out and said that he’s called all of his offense buddies, and if he get’s traded there’ll be alot of problems. Well then, what if Stokely or one of the others gets traded, you wouldn’t imagine their little “herd” would just turn their backs on him then would you? It just seems very childish. I’m sure Coach McDaniels is going to be pretty upset. Especially with Cutler saying, “Obviously, Josh and I’s relationship has taken a few steps backward. I don’t play for the coaches anyway, I play for teammates”. Why say that in an interview? You’re just blowing off steam, and that’s bad press. In an interview response to Adam Schefter’s question regarding some of Jay’s press comments, McDaniels said if anything is being said in the press, it better be about something that will help the Team. Cutler organizing “clicks” in the locker room is not going to fly, nor should it. I’m a big fan of you Jay, but come on man!
Dawkins in the locker room is going to be a great vibe. He doesn’t want “clicks”, he wants one big happy family. Let’s get this foolishness put behind us immediately.

BucknBronco – i could of not said it any better than that… ALL THE PEOPLE THAT IS BAD MOUTHING JOSH MCDANIEL ARE IDIOTS & JUST AS CHILDISH AS CUTLER…

  45. lynch4prez says:

TO ALL OF YOU WHO THINK CUTLER NEEDS TO STOP BEING A BABY ABOUT THIS SITUATION…

No he doesnt! He is the face of this team! NOT JOSH McDANIELS! Mr. McDaniels needs to stop trying to make our team into a second hand New England Patriots, a lot of signings make sense but some are just ridicilous

  46. bronc fan in WA says:

SOOO aside from the McDaniels mistake talk…..

Apparently JJ Arringtons contract with us had a problem with it so its not offficial. And today we have Derrick Ward visiting us in Denver….

This is good and bad. We couldve used Arrington for a returner. But Ward is a way more solid running back.

I kinda feel like if we take Ward though that Hillis and Torains oppurtunities are going to be limited and i was hoping one of them would turn out great next year.

all you people bad mouthing the coaches are idiots you need to learn the facts before you run your mouth SUPPORT YOUR TEAM

  48. broncos14441 says:

Here, this says it is just being blown out of proportion:

“He’s not the only person in the last few days we’ve received calls on,” McDaniels said. “We’ve received trade calls on a number of players, which is not uncommon this time of the year. I also think the sensitivity of the other trade that was occurring, with my relationship with New England and the whole Cassel thing, I think that stirred the pot even more.”

And then McDaniels made a point of emphasis: “We don’t want to trade Jay. We never did. He’s our quarterback. We’re excited about this season. And excited about what we’re doing here in free agency to improve our team.”

“…WE NEVER DID…” so settle down Jay and lets move on to win the SuperBowl.

  49. BucknBronco says:

We’ve got enough issues to deal with besides this. The whole thing is foolish to say the least. McDaniels and Cutler will need to resolve this quick. A trust issue is not good when trying to build a new relationship.

    Lets go Broncos!!!

  50. thebiancobronco says:

Alright everyone, i’m sure as i was and still am maybe a little pissed off at this move. After having our franchise coach leave us for the better, it is clearly apparent that McDaniels does not yet fully understand the bronco feeling! Its understandable, i mean coaching a team that won super bowls and put up unbelievable records then being put into a hole new system. Thus, give him some time….I still wouldnt call him a true bronco yet, especially if this whole thing is legit but after a while i think Mcd. is doing what he thinks (though we all dont agree with the Cutler situation, i speak for 90% of bronco fans) will help the team and is doing a good job rebuilding our defense. Cutler has a right to be pissed. He knows it, the players know it and we know that this kid is special and is the face of this franchise. He’s also still young! He hasn’t got into his prime yet and hes already a pro bowl QB!! This season if all this stuff gets cleared up, it could be the start of a huge dominant bronco era at the reigns of Jay Cutler andd McDaniels. Nevertheless, Mcd. is on a short leash now with us fans and the players (im sure Bmarsh Royal and Sheffler are’nt too happy about this either) but if all gets cleared up and the defense hes bringing in works, say hello to Broncos Coach and a Broncos Era….
