Dawkins a Surprise Guest in War Room

April 24th, 2012 - 11:31am by Gray Caldwell

On Tuesday, the Broncos war room got a surprise visitor — recently retired safety Brian Dawkins.

Dawkins entered the room to thank everyone in it for the opportunity to play in Denver, and there were lots of smiles, hugs, laughs and some heartfelt interaction.

Before he left the room, however, Owner/CEO Pat Bowlen, Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway, Head Coach John Fox, General Manager Brian Xanders and the rest of the war room had a surprise for Dawkins as well.

The group presented him with a framed No. 20 jersey, which Dawkins said he truly appreciated.

Dawkins is expected to meet the media at approximately noon MDT today, and DenverBroncos.com will have more coverage of his visit to Dove Valley this afternoon.

You may have something there Jsizzla.

    Atwater..

I thought Vick player pretty well the year before he was hurt. Played especially better than he did when he was with the Vikings.

  3. alaskanbronco06 says:

Freak I noticed that too. A lot of the time hes trying to knock it back into his body.

  4. broncosfreak30 says:

    played*

  5. alaskanbronco06 says:

You also cant forget we have Urein Garland and Bannan along with Warren and Vickerson.

Warren has injury concerns but i think will be a huge impact when on the field.
    Vickerson is good solid depth
Bannan will be a stud at DT having played DE with us last time.
Garland and Urein are unknowns but I think Garland will be a huge surprise.

What it all comes down to though is that the FO has a better idea with the DT situation than we do.

  6. alaskanbronco06 says:

Also have Thomas waiting. I think a deal will happen with him post draft.

  7. jsizzla says:

Well Ab last Iowa tackle that was supposed to go top 10 was Bryan Bulaga 2 years ago he slipped to 24 to the Packers where he came in halfway through the season for and injured Mark Taushcher as the Packers went on to win the superbowl and Bulaga is still the starter so my bubble is definatly still floating.

  8. Atwater4HOF says:

All I know is that everyone but Garland and Warren have contributed to us being ripped apart in the run game.

So hopefully our FO sees that. Just because roster spots are filled doesn’t mean we are set. Garland should move to end.

Vickerson is a great rotation guy, not a starter on a great D (my opinion)

Bannan a stud? lol come on now. Solid rotation guy maybe. I’ve had this discussion before, if he was a great player he would not have changed teams for the 3rd consecutive year

  9. alaskanbronco06 says:

Jsizzla sorry but thats like saying Rodgers fell to 25 so Luck will also. Or because Russel was taken so high the next LSU QB will be taken #1 overall. Cant say a player will fall or rise because someone from same school and/or position has done it in the past.

Like I said I highly doubt Rieff will fall past 15. Especially in a league were its so important to protect the QB.

  10. alaskanbronco06 says:

Atwater Bannan was a DE in a 3-4 with us last time. He also did decently with the Rams. He will be a lot better in Denver as a 4-3 DT. So yes I think he will be a stud this year.

  11. jsizzla says:

Just food for thought that’s all. Just throwin’ scenerios out there. Keeps it fun.

  12. alaskanbronco06 says:

jsizzla even if he does fall into the 20s the Lions need a OT and the Steelers do to. Steelers allowed the most sacks this past year.

If IF he falls past them then we will have a lot of teams interested in trading for it which will up the amount of picks we get for it.

  14. Atwater4HOF says:

Yes I’m aware he was a DE in our 3-4. Rams were 31st in Rush D last year with him in the middle. Not saying he was solely responsible but Laurenitis is a good run stuffing MLB so something went wrong in the middle for them

  15. Atwater4HOF says:

FTR – no doubt. Something tells me Fleener isn’t out of the question for us despite grabbing Dreessen and Tamme

  16. alaskanbronco06 says:

The Rams ran a 4-3 so there is also another DT there that shoulda helped. Something went wrong in the middle maybe it was Bannan maybe not. We dont really know. However I still think he will be a stud as DT in our 4-3 and IMO he did a decent job with the Rams.

So, today I did something as a cowboy that I had never had to do before and that was cut a calf out of a cow that I had to shoot in the middle of a field…

Long story short… IT SUCKED… but I do have a new bottle calf that is a little bull (male) and I would like some input on what his name should be…

I am really thinking I will wait till Thursday to name him, and call him the first name of the first player we select in the draft… that or maybe just call him VON, cause that name is kind of boss…

Can’t stay and visit, but I look forward to some name suggestions… catch up with you sometime tomorrow

    B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!

  18. Atwater4HOF says:

Did you watch Rams games last year lol how would you know if he did decent or not. Numbers wise he didn’t, and team D wise they didn’t

  19. Atwater4HOF says:

I’m just busting on you AB

You are entitled to your opinion.

Give me Ta’amu and Wolfe and cut Bannan at the end of preseason haha. I’m out, have a good one

  20. alaskanbronco06 says:

Didnt you say the DT is more than stats? Yes actually I did wathc a lot of Rams games last year. I got 6 of them up here. And i kept track of the others.

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

Yes I did, I made that comment because you feel DT stats are important. Hey I hope he turns out, he’s in his mid 30s and can’t stick with a team so I have my doubts

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

    BT go with Lynch.

  23. alaskanbronco06 says:

Actually if you recall I said that DT are hard to judge by stats. Which they are. Denver cut him because they went elsewhere and he didnt want to return to the Rams. He often goes elsewhere when his contract is up. He did it with the Ravens and Bills.

  24. buck484 says:

Turtle, I once had to pull one with a tractor. I think a good name would be T-bone.

  25. Atwater4HOF says:

Well you kept comparing Worthy and Jones stats wise. Whatever my point is he is not a starter. He doesn’t get long term deals for a reason.

    Peace

  26. alaskanbronco06 says:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2J5VLik4VI

Since I dont think Jones will be there ;) lets go with Vinny Curry!!!

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

If you listen to him talk he doesnt want long term deals. He had a raw deal with the Bills he wanted out they wouldnt trade him or cut him same with the Ravens so he doesnt do long term deals no more.

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Vinny Curry had 239 total tackles in 45 games. That averages out to 5.3 per game. He had 112 solo tackles and combo tackles. 49 TFLs. 26.5 sacks. 32 QB credited QB hurries.

He has a quick 1st step. Hes 6-5 265. Strong and physical at the point of attack.

He also made the OTs look like scrubs at the Senior Bowl both in practice and during the game.

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

i said hello because my posts wernt going through lol. It wouldnt let me post the link the Tannehills QB camp.

  34. broncosfreak30 says:

hahah, well you know that I’m here anyways…haha

  35. alaskanbronco06 says:

Lol Freak I know you dont like Jones but whats your opinion of Curry? He has the production! Cant say he doesnt. lol

  36. broncosfreak30 says:

Wow, I didn’t see this posted anywhere today, but apparently the Jets are going to use Tebow as a punt protector????

    WTF???

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7849770&categoryid=2459789

  37. broncosfreak30 says:

I think Curry would be a nice pickup!!

  38. alaskanbronco06 says:

Wow! Interesting Freak. Did you see that some website is offering a million bucks to women if they can prove they had sex with Tebow? Some guy is a major Tebow hater and wants to diminish him. Thats not cool IMO. Thats taking things way to far.

I like Curry a lot. Hes tall and has long arms. Isnt a good edge run stopper but isnt horrible but he excels at pass rushing.

  39. broncosfreak30 says:

I didn’t like his 40 time at the combine. He ran a 4.91 at the combine but ran a 4.6 at his pro day. Hopefully he’s in the 2nd round and we’ll add several picks there and take him. That’d be good in my opinion.

  40. FTR says:

    Broncos Country:
My Mom is pissed she has to ( If everyone takes the full 10 min to take their pick) wait 250 minutes to see who her beloved Broncos will pick LOL (At 84 she says the wait is too long on the clock) to see who her Broncos will select! Not like me she Knows Collage Football! We had to hold her down when we picked TT!!
    Peace out !
    FTR

  41. broncosfreak30 says:

A guy who I think we might go after in the 2nd round is Lavonte David. He is a 4-3 linebacker who both Kiper and McShay gave 1st round talent to. DJ will be out the first 6 games! He is an amazing lb!

He ran a 4.66 at the combine and his overall grade on the experts is an 87.7. The guys is an absolute beast!!!

This guy can also cover well with his speed!!

  42. broncosfreak30 says:

This guy Lavonte David is a beast!!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U8o_m7aBqI&feature=relmfu

  43. alaskanbronco06 says:

I wouldnt mind trading down to get Curry David Martin or Reyes. If we can get 3 2nds and get 3 of them I would love it. Ive kinda come down off of Martin. I like him but I think a RB in the 4th or 5th will be better.

  44. alaskanbronco06 says:

Freak whats his size? In the vids he looks kinda small. But I dont think he is if im remembering right.

  45. alaskanbronco06 says:

Nevermind I found it. He is a little small for a LB. I was thinking of someone else lol.

    6-1 233 at the combine.

Hes a beast no doubt but his weight worries me some. His weight screams to me that he will be ran over by NFL RBs

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

Im sure a lot of people know this already but if there isnt heres a little fact.

A few years ago Marcus Vick (Michael brother) stomped on a players leg of the opposing teams hand. The player was none other than Elvis Dumervil.

If you didnt know that you do now lol.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIwKXq6m3F8

  47. broncosfreak30 says:

Dang, didn’t know that ab. Yea David is a beast. He said he is going to put on another 5-10 pounds. I look at it as he busts through offensive lines quickly and can cover guys well with his speed! We will need someone better than Woodyard and Haggan as Williams replacement if we don’t want to get picked apart! I liked Brown from UNC but David is a beast and has done it consistently!

He reminds me of Luke but smaller and at the outside instead of the inside! Would be a steal in the 2nd round.

In the 2nd add Martin, David and Reyes and I’d be very happy!

  48. alaskanbronco06 says:

I remembered that from the draft when we selected him they mentioned it and thought id mention it since the draft is near. Doom is a beast and Marcus Vick isnt in the NFL lol KARMA? LOL

Freak I like Reyes David and Curry more in the 2nd. I think we can get a good RB in the 3rd along with Wolfe.

Thats if we trade 25 and get two 2nd rounders and a early 3rd. I wouldnt mind giving 25 the 6th round this year and a 3rd next year for two 2nds a 3rd and 5th this year.

  49. alaskanbronco06 says:

Here yall go. Heres something for you to think about lol.

Denver trades 25 to the Packers. Denver gets 28 59 90 and 163. Packers take Shea McClellin OLB BSU

Denver then trades 28 to the Colts. Denver gets 34 64 97 136. Colts take Coby Fleener TE Stanford.

Denver at 34 takes Vinny Curry DE Marshall

Denver than trades 64 87 and 136 to the Dolphins for 42 and 145. Denver takes Kendall Reyes.

Denver than trades 57 97 137 to the Eagles for 46 and 153. Denver takes Lavonte David LB Nebraska.

Denver at 59 (From Packers) Take Brock Osweieler QB ASU

Denver than trades 108 120 153 and a 4th and 6th next year to the Buccaneers for 68 and 140. Denver takes Derek Wolfe DT/DE Cincinnati.

Denver then trades 3rd next year 90 and 163 to Miami for 72 215. Denver takes CB Ron Brooks LSU.

    Denver has 140 145 188 and 215 left.

At 140 Denver takes Vick Ballard RB Mississippi State

At 145 Denver takes WR Tommy Streeter Miami (Fla)

At 188 Denver takes OG Ryan Miller from Colorado

At 215 Denver takes Vontaze Burfict LB ASU.

I tried to be accurate with the trades. I used past trades and the value chart. Who can complain with a draft like that? I cant. Wed end up with a good group of players and Burfict and Osweieler the only two not being able to compete for a starting job. Streeter Ballard and Brooks will end up 2nd or 3rd string. Curry Reyes Wolfe and David will all come in and start or be serious competition to start.
