Davis, Sharpe Voted Valuable

April 21st, 2010 - 11:12am by Gray Caldwell

With the NFL Draft kicking off in primetime for the first time tomorrow, the league has been announcing the 75 most valuable draft picks of all time — as voted by fans — in chunks over the past few days.

The Broncos have a presence. Terrell Davis — a sixth-round pick (196th overall) in 1995 — sits at No. 60, and Shannon Sharpe — a seventh-round pick (192nd overall) in 1990 — was voted the 44th most valuable draft pick.

Two players not drafted by Denver who spent time playing for the Broncos also made the list — John Lynch (a third-round pick, 82nd overall, in 1993) at No. 73, and Champ Bailey (the seventh overall pick in 1999) at No. 57.

The league has announced picks 75-11, and the top 10 will be revealed during the first round of the draft.

Way to go boys, bout time we get some recognition,TD and Sharpe, yeah, the good ol days,I personally send out a Mile High salute to the both of you…Bronc on.

  3. Big D 44 says:

Thank you and congrats to TD and Sharpe. Ahh, the good old glory days (even though it wasn’t too long ago). Some of the best to ever play their respective position. TD’s career was cut short but he was second to none when he played.

  4. BeastFromEast92 says:

Mr. Caldwell, you think we may have 1 more most valuable draft pick in the top 10??

  5. broncowildkansan says:

Congrats!!! That is no Joke! TD and Sharpe! Goes to show not all of the tallent is found in the first two rounds!!! Not to steal the tag line, but I like it… Bronc On!!!

  6. Orange_Crusher says:

After much deliberation, I have come to the conclusion that NE is the only team that has what we want to trade down for… A first round pick in the area where Pouncy will go, an extra second round pick to trade and the need for a backup QB groomed by McDaniels.

Therfore, I think the Broncos will trade our #11 and Tom Brandstater to the NE Patriots for their #22 and #47 picks. That gives the Broncos an extra pick in the second round..

Here are my choices for the Super Duper Mile High Bronco Baylinorcrush Rocky Mountain Mayhem Draft Pick Contest. Where the winner gets to gloat a thousand times and join the club of Bronco Superheros for figuring out the masterplan of Chaos…

    1st #22 C Maurkice Pouncy, Florida 6’4″ 304
    2nd #43 WR Arrelious Benn, Illinois 6’1″ 220
    2nd #45 QB Tim Tebow, Florida 6’3″ 230
    2nd #47 RB Toby Gerhart, stanford 6’1″ 235
    3rd #80 LB Koa Misi, Utah 6’3″ 251
    4th #114 WR Mardy Gilyard, Cincinnatti 6’0″ 187
    5th #137 CB Alterraun Verner, UCLA 5’11 189
    6th #183 C Joe Hawley, UNLV 6’3″ 297

    STONE COLD ORANGE CRUSH LOCK!!!!!

  7. Deify_you says:

Where’s that 47th pick from? I know it’s NE but how do we have it?

  8. BeastFromEast92 says:

OC Great mock, but what if Pittsburgh at #18 takes Pouncey,or the 9ers at #13 or #17,they both need Oline help, and Pittsburgh done said they’ll take Pouncey or Upati at #18,then what????

Not trying to burst your bubble, just saying.

  9. BeastFromEast92 says:

I do like it,if it works.

  10. slicvic12 says:

he thinks we’ll trade our 11th and Brandstater for the 22nd and 47th.

  11. BeastFromEast92 –

Unfortunately, my guess is probably not, since the Broncos didn’t technically draft John Elway. But we’ll see what happens.

  12. Orange_Crusher says:

I get the feeling that Pitt might draft a QB early….?

  13. BeastFromEast92 says:

Yeah, you’re probably right, thanks. But hey we got 2 in there.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Tebow??

    They signed Leftwich.

  15. brian_schneider says:

They should do a “Most valuable un-drafted” players of all time. With Rod Smith being #1, I’m not even joking Rod Smith would have to be #1.

  16. C2 says:

I think if McClain is there at the eleventh spot, you gotta pull the trigger on that. If he isn’t, I think McDaniels trades down a few spots and takes Dez Bryant. I would love either one of those picks. How about C.J. Spiller though?? I know we have Moreno who I love but Spiller is electric and gives you a great one-two punch. Plus you never know how healthy Buckhalter is going to be. If we get one of these 3 guys I think that would help us a lot. We need to avoid a project DE like Pierre-Paul or Derrick Morgan in the first round. For all you fans that like Pouncey from Florida, I don’t think thats a bad idea but you can probably get him in the 2nd round and there is no need to pick him at eleven

  17. BroncWild says:

why don’t we trade for big ben? give them orton and a second round pick. ben is an proven player in the nfl so why not go after him?

  18. Deify_you says:

I’m actually torn on that thought BroncWild, Big Ben would make a nice addition on our roster and he’s a proven QB only problem is ESPN says the Steelers are looking for 1-10 rd pick for him and we just miss that, but I guess if they’re desperate enough to get rid of him they’ll take 11.

  19. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’d take McClain or Williams @#11,if they are there, and pickup Walton,Tennant,or Olsen at OC probably in the 3rd,if not try the trade down for Pouncey.IMO

If we don’t get McClain, I’d like Weatherspoon,Lee,or Spikes @ ILB.

  20. brian_schneider says:

It is tough decision..go with a force in the middle of our LBs or a force in the middle of our o-line. Just think if we wouldn’t have given Seattle our 14th we’d be sitting awesome right now, two 1st, two 2nd and pretty much every scenario would be an option.

  21. Torain ATV fan says:

i WOULD NEVER ROOt FOR BIG BEN. Honestly where are the values in people. You want your kids to root for someone accused of sexual assault 3 times, woow, its like saying your favorite players is a girlfriend beater, but its okay because he produces on the field. Yeah son he hits his girlfriend all the time or yeah son he was accused of sexual assault 3 times but its okay cuz they produce on Sunday. Insane.

  22. C2 says:

BeastFromEast92: I like Spikes too as an inside LB in a 4-3. And we could definitely trade way down to get him and maybe pick up another 2nd

  23. Torain ATV fan says:

yeah son if your lucky one day that could be you. LOL

  24. Orange_Crusher says:

If Pouncy is not there at #22 that means that some other good player like a CJ spiller, Ronaldo Mcclain or Dan Williams might fall in our spot. Then we’ll have to fugure a C into the early second round.

  25. Torain ATV fan says:

Ill bet you the Raiders will try to get him, fits their mold, not the Broncos mold.

  26. brian_schneider says:

I know it shouldn’t matter but lets just say it wasn’t Ben, but say someone with no money. Would she still have come out and tried to file charges? Sexual assault isn’t a laughing matter, but sometimes the ladies only be looking for a pay out.

  27. baylinorcrush says:

OK, I’m out of the water, I got the following bloggers draft pick entries for the contest so far:

    rebelbronco
    denveralumni
    broncosfreak30
    DoomervilRocks92
    hometeam007
    sndvl
    texark-fan
    Orange Crusher

If you made the top three picks and are not on the list above, it’s because, you either made multiple scenarios, picked multiple options at one pick or didn’t write down the specific pick# for a player.

It’s very simple if you want in the contest: Give the top three players picked with what # they will be picked at, that’s it.

    Example:

    11 McClain
    27 Tebow
    45 Blount

That’s all I need, anymore stuff and I probably won’t be able to get your entry in…

  28. Orange_Crusher says:

I don’t see your name on that list of picks in.. When do we get to see your choices, bay?

  29. baylinorcrush says:

I was gonna wait until tomorrow, but I already made my choice, so here it is, but keep in mind this is what I think McD would like to do, not necessarily what I would do… :

    11 McClain
    25 Pouncey
    45 Tebow

  30. brian_schneider says:

Alright baylinorcrush, I’ll play by the rules…

    #20 Pouncey
    #43 Bryant
    #45 Gerhart

  31. baylinorcrush says:

I know you are going to love to see Tebow in there, if I had my way I would do the same first two picks, but I would pick Gerhart instead of Tebow. I thought about it sleeping on the boat last night and I figured other than an ILB and aCenter, what would McD want next, and for various reasons (some of them you made (re: QB need), some of them I made (re: RB need)) it came down between a QB or a RB, but I figured because of how he was reportedly disappointed at Brandsater on the scout team, he might be trying to unload him. I mean if you don’t perform well against the scout team made of your own teammates, how are you expected to be able to perform against the real team in a regular season game, I don’t see it, hence I thought two QB’s would not be enough, we have 5 RB’s, he’ll go another QB. I’m probably all wrong, but this was my little revelation last night, LOL.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

It wasn’t so hard, was it? LOL.

  33. Orange_Crusher says:

That’s funny man… I do love to see TT in there though. On my picks I switched Tebow and Gerhart back and fourth several times before going with TT for the third pick…haha

I thought McD wouldn’t want it to look like he traded down 11 spots just to swap Tebow for Brandstater so I figured it would look better to have Gerhart in that #47 spot to make it appear he did it to accuire a Power Back…haha

  34. Orange_Crusher says:

    bay,

what’s your scenario on how we will accuire the #25 spot from the Ravens?

  35. brian_schneider says:

McD is really Chuck Norris so he’ll just take it from the Ravens LOL!!!!!

  36. Atwater4HOF says:

    #11 Earl Thomas
    #43 Jon Asamoah
    #45 Eric Decker

The number 11 pick is tough to call… if we even stay there. I could see Haden or McClain at that spot as well. Im a huge fan of Decker for his size and Asamoah is a absolute beast

  37. Orange_Crusher says:

Chuck Norris??? I think McD reminds me of a young Aurther Fonzarelli… My wife can’t see it but I think he looks just like young Henry Wrinkler..especially when he gets mad…

Aaaaaay!!!! He needs to wear a black leather hoodie….lol

    No offense Coach…

  38. Big D 44 says:

Atwater4HOF, I am not a college football guru and I am sure I will get some heckling, but I have never heard of any of those guys you picked. LMAO.

I know, I could research them but I don’t have the time for that.

  39. Big D 44 says:

Earl Thomas is a safety, right? It’s just not a present need so I”m not really paying much attention to the safeties and corners.

  40. Atwater4HOF says:

Yes he is a safety. Quite a few mock drafts, including McShay, have us taking Thomas. He is a great value pick at that spot and some scouts believe he is better than Eric Berry.

I live in Baltimore and watch Ozzie Newsome draft VALUE instead of need. Seems to turn out well for them.

  41. Atwater4HOF says:

    Big D-

Decker is a wideout from Minnesota the number 5 ranked wideout this year in the draft

Asamoah is the number 2 ranked guard from Illinois

  42. Big D 44 says:

Atwater4HOF, OK my amnesia is fading I remember those guys. Look at what McD did last year. He drafted Moreno, not because he was a major need but because of value and talent. So you may be right. I just want the Bronco’s to win the AFC west and become feared around the league again. I don’t care who we pick as long as we win baby!!!

  43. baylinorcrush says:

OC, to move up to #25, we could use our #43 and our fifth or sixth, or something next year, and I picked the Ravens to trade with because over the years we have made quite a few trades with them is all.

  44. Atwater4HOF says:

Agreed I think we need a good balance of Need and Value

  45. derrick149 says:

    #20- Pouncey
    #43- Gerhart
    #45- D. Thomas

  46. royalbroncofan1 says:

ok baylin – here goes a shot in the dark…lol

    #11 Rolando McClain 6’4″ 258 lbs ILB – Alabama
#35 Demaryius Thomas 6’3″ 229 lbs WR – Georgia Tech (trade up 10 slots by offering future late rd pick or current backup player).
    #45 Matt Tennant 6’5″ 300 lbs C – Boston College

  47. royalbroncofan1 says:

Correction – 8 slots on trade up.

  48. baylinorcrush says:

Great guys, we already got 13 entries…

Remember, entry deadline is right BEFORE the first pick is made tomorrow evening.

  49. gardenstatebroncofan says:
