With the news that the Broncos have agreed in principle to trade Jay Cutler to the Chicago Bears, we thought we’d give you a place to share your thoughts.
It has been reported that the Broncos will receive a first-round pick in 2009, a third-round pick in 2009, a first-round pick in 2010 and quarterback Kyle Orton in return for Cutler and a fifth-round pick in 2009, though nothing has been officially announced.
In 33 career starts, Orton has compiled a record of 21-12, including a record of 15-2 in home games.
If the reports are correct, the Broncos will have the following picks in the upcoming NFL Draft:
1-12-12 Denver
1-18-18 Denver (from Chicago)
2-16-48 Denver
3-15-79 Denver
3-20-84 Denver (from Chicago)
4-14-114 Denver
5-13-149 Denver
6-12-185 Denver
7-16-225 Denver
7-26-235 Denver (from Atlanta)
It would also mean that over the next two NFL Drafts, the Broncos will have nine picks in the first three rounds.

TGall26, Perhaps 3-17 is below average you tell me, because that is Cutlers record when The Offense scored 20 or less in a game.
If you know you have a medeocre D why put them in a bad position as often as they did, with all the turnovers and 3&OUT’s, and don’t get me started on TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! ! THEY OWNED THAT 3 OUT OF 16 GAMES THIS YEAR.
By the way 13-1 is Cutler record when the Deffense held the opposeing Team to 21points or less, not gave up 21 points or less.
TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !
GO BRONCOS ! ! !
I like 3)Keep the Picasso, but in the basement to keep neighbors quiet, yet unhappy?
No one will bitch if we win
All will be right if McMinime turns out ten plus good years like Shanny did
whitebornco1, You got that right. The new coach just traded our picasso (Cutler), for some run-of-the-mill poster (Orton), because it suits the style of the new resident. This is exactly why all the neighbors (the fans) are upset. Because they’re concerned that the scroungy new guy (hoodies are his finest attire), with all of his crappy stuff (lawn furniture and all), is going to devalue the whole neighborhood.
The other neighborhood residents (fans from other teams) are sure happy with where they are living, because our neighborhood has got problems.
This is a fun analogy. Thanks for that.
I hope that we get Sanchez as our new quarterback and if we don’t then fo sho we gone get a much a better defense with the picks that we have now.
selling the Picasso would be a pretty tough decision to make and I’m sure there would be some people that would say the home owner is crazy, but if you’re a person who is not concerned about appearances and flash and instead your focused on the structure of the home long term, you may sell the Picasso to build a stronger foundation to the home. Think about that. I like the analogy.
Hahaha. I think a 5)”none of the above” is missing.
The fact is there’s not enough info to get an answer. The Picasso is gone, many (not all) of the neighbors loved guy A, and guy B was loved by his neighbors in his old neighborhood. Those are the only certain things.
Will the Picasso really look good in the museum? Is guy B’s house really going to be that bad? The price for the Picasso was the correct?
Who knows. It’s beyond my control. I choose to smile and have fun.
Cheers!
Marshall had better start playing as well as he talks instead of dropping balls or this new little McCoach will cut his expensive rearend.I think if McWetBehindtheEars can establish his “Well Rounded” total team then yes maybe we can “Win Now”
jwalkbmarsh who’s to say he doesn’t like coach mcd most players no the business of he game. no1 knows
All I know is the last few years of the Shanahan regime have produced nothing for this team. A breath of fresh air is totally welcomed by me and if Jay was this sensitive did he really have what it takes to lead this team? (hate to admit it but maybe Philip Rivers had a point!)
Man, what a crazy month, huh?
I was one of Shanahan’s greatest backers. I never EVER thought Bowlen would ever get rid of him. But for all the haters still, don’t you remember last season? Unexcuseable to lead the division all year and then be completely embaressed in the last game. Really, who actually watched that whole game? I couldn’t even get passed the third quarter. So get over it already. It’s done.
And please, tell me how Culter escapes guilt here. He wanted the trade. He wouldn’t show up for the offseason programs. He forfieted $100k. He wouldn’t return phone calls. He LIED when he said he didn’t want to be traded and he didn’t want it to go this far. Come on, really?? Buh bye.
I don’t know, after reading Bowlen’s statement and the transcript of McDaniels press conference, the more I’m convinced that everything they want and are doing is for the team to win. And as fans, isn’t that what we want? Broncos aren’t going to go down in flames. The offense will still be productive. The defense will be sound. Royal will improve on special teams. We’ll be ok. I STILL love my Broncos and am behind the owner and Coaches 100%.
FYI:
The combination of Orton and free-agent acquisition Chris Simms makes Denver the only team in the league to have multiple quarterbacks on its roster that have won division titles as starters since 2000.
Orton, a starter for 33 games over his career, has compiled a record of 21-12, including a 15-2 record in home games.
I’m getting more and more confidence for the 2010 season.
GO BRONCOS!!!
The more I read about Orton, the more Im starting to like him. He may not have a big arm but hes smart and consistent, look at his record when starting hes like 21-12. Maybe we can bring in Brian Leftwich or Jeff Garcia in FA. Then Orton, Simms, and Leftwich/ Garcia can battle it out in camp. We can still make another trade also, maybe Brady Quiinn for are 2 round pick. There is also the possiblity of trading up to get Mark Sanchez, but if we dont I would like to see James Lauranities or Peria Jerry taken with are 18 pick and Rajji taken with are 12 and if Rajji isnt there then maybe Josh Freeman or a DE.
All will be forgotten if we[the broncos] win right away. But if we tank it every fan on here will be calling for mcdaniels head Cutler hater or not.
THATS THE REAL TRUTH!!!
Lets move on,the show must go on without Jay lets face the fact that Jay made a mistake thinking he was bigger than the team, but guess what No player is bigger than the team. Josh has 3 super bowl rings so does Pat Bowlen so just let them take care of it they know how to. The Bronco way won’t pamper stars.
Kyle You Da man!!
I think in end we will benefit from this trade, just watch fellow broncofans
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!
Browns beat writer Tony Grossi believes the possibility of a Brady Quinn trade to Denver still exists.
Grossi’s scenario is a pipe-dream. Even though the Browns appear to have zero faith in Quinn, Grossi believes the Broncos should bail them out by surrendering the No. 18 pick in the first round to acquire him. Source: Cleveland Plain Dealer
American Football has only been shown on British TV since 1983 and so this has been my 25th year as a fan. During that time my two favourite players have been Walter Payton and John Elway and that led me to supporting both the Bears and the Broncos, although in the last 20 years the Broncos have been number 1 for me.
In signing Jay Cutler I thought that the Broncos’ had found that X-factor that had been missing since Elway retired, the X-factor that Walter Payton had. So trading Jay to the Bears is, to me, a very high risk strategy because that class and that quality is rare.
This has put me in a quandary because of my fierce loyalty to the Broncos on the one hand and my great admiration for Cutler on the other. However when push comes to shove you have to follow your heart, and the heart of any NFL Team is not the owner, or the coach, or the players, but the fans, and I feel at home in Denver.
Jay Cutler will always be an exciting player to watch, and I believe he will be in the Hall of Fame. So let us all forget about all the hullabaloo, wish Jay well with his new team, thank him for his past service, then get behind the Broncos and follow them to a glorious future. Fortune favours the brave.
I doubt Orton is going to be the guy without a QB battle with a rookie QB, NFL Total Access says MCD is in love with Mark Sanchez after seeing him at his Pro Day, so he must see something in him. I really like Josh Freeman, Rhett Bomar, Pat White and Nate Davis. Pat White especially, that would be a change up in our history of QB, very Mike Vick like, but much more accurate and poise in the pocket, so I don’t think we need to trade up to get Sanchez.
What do y’all think?
Career stats:
CUTLER:3 years, 9,024 yds, 54td’s,37 ints, 87.1 rating
ORTON:4 years, 5,319 yds, 30tds, 27ints,71.1 rating
yea well u have to rember he started 6 less games than jay in those 4 years and was sacked 8 less times in his 3 years.
another quick fact that makes me happy bout us havin kyle unlike jay hes already learnin the playbook and ready for practice. if he sucks its the last year of his contract so we can let him go
At first glance, i Thought it would be a great idea to get Mark Sanchez with the 2nd overall pick, but now that I really think about, I think Orton will do just fine, his numbers may not compare to what Cutler did last year, but with more weapons on our team his QB rating should sky rocket. So we hold off on drafting a QB this year, jump start the defense with both first round picks that we have now. If a formidable RB is available in the 2nd round draft a RB, 3rd round go back to the defensive side, and in the remaining rounds, solidify any position that are still at question as to who is the clear cut starter. And that should put us back into playoff contention with San Diego, and on our way to success.
They should do what it takes to get Vick. He would help them win and not be so selfish in his play.
Maybe we can still can get Brian Leftwich or Jeff Garcia in FA. If not we can trade are 18 pick for Brady Quin or maybe are 2 round pick. If we dont do any of these things then we can get Bomar, Nate Davis, or Pat White in the 2 or 3 round. Also there is Hackney we still have on are roster that can compete for the starting job.
In my opinion we need to take Rey Maualuga with our first pick if he is available. He could become our Ray Lewis or Sean Merriman, and become a solid building block for this defense in the future. There are better Quarterbacks in next years draft. If Chris Simms or Kyle Orton can just manage a game well a better D will make this a better year.
broncosforlife80, Heres astat for ya.
Kyle Orton is 96.0% in the Red Zone
Jay Cutler is 74.1% in the red zone
Welcome to The Age of Orton!
bronco#80 its byron leftwich and hes not agreat starter. we’ll b fine with orton just sign a rookie later in the draft like herral or chase danniels to test there skill. orton will be great in denverand hes still young hes only a year older than jay
we need line and a reliable corner. we already have 2 leaders at mlb (dj and andra) and boss, moss, doom, haygan, woodyard and green at olb so maybe an olb but wait till later to get middle
I would like to see Lauranities taken with are 18 pick and Raji with are 12 pick.
cry baby cutler …….. the bears might scared him and make him cry like a little baby
I’m with Pat Bowlen on this one all the way. The strongest arm on earth isn’t much good if the rest of the team has to be on the field to change his diapers. We sometimes forget this is a TEAM sport. So much is being said about Cutler that we forget we are getting two very good athletes in Kyle Orton and Chris Simms. I watched Orton last year and am impressed by one thing… he is smart and cool… much unlike other QB’s we know. If his arm is not as strong as Cutler’s, so what? I’d rather have a win by a team than by a player. It’s more stable that way. For those who would say we “woulda shoulda coulda”, please GET A LIFE… and support the real leaders of our team, Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels.
If one of those 2 qb’s fall within grasp WITHOUT having to give up the draft to get him then I hope we make the move. Orton is servicable, but he’s not going to carry the load. I can’t forgive Cutler for not calling Bowlen back. I liked Jay, but I didn’t like his attitude at the end. Coaches come and go, this one better do something special for all the drama he’s caused.
Here’s my recipe for a successful NFL Entry Draft:
#12 – Tyson Jackson DE LSU – best 5-tech End in the draft
#18 – Maualuga/Cushing/Matthews/Lauranitis LB – this is the best LB draft in a decade and we SHOULD score one of these elites
#48 – William Moore S Missouri – an awesome competitor
#79 – Herman Johnson OG LSU – this guy is a MONSTER at Guard
#85 – Shonn Greene RB Iowa – all the intangibles to be a pro
#114 – Zack Follett LB Cal – best “pro” in the draft – great shot at a 10-year career
#149 – Austin Collie WR BYU – Wow. McCaffery-esque. Can you say “first down?”
#185 – Graham Gano K FSU – OUR KICKER SUCKS!!!
#225 – Louie Sakoda K Utah – OUR KICKER SUCKS!!!
2010 = SAM BRADFORD!!!!! Sell every pick for this guy.
Try “The Reverend Peyton and His Big Damn Band” for some great tunes.
Peace out.
