Cutler, Royal Up for Awards

November 11th, 2008 - 11:23am by Adam Zinser

After huge performances by two of the Broncos most potent weapons, it’s only appropriate that they be nominated for any and all awards possible.

Jay Cutler has been nominated for Fed Ex Air NFL Player of the Week honors for his performance on Thursday Night Football in Denver’s 34-30 win over Cleveland. Cutler completed 24-of-42 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns in the Broncos’ come-from-behind victory.

Eddie Royal has also been nominated for an award for his Week 10 performance against the Browns. He is in the running for NFL Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week honors. Royal hauled in six receptions for 164 yards, including a 93-yard touchdown, against the Browns.

Royal won this award for his Week 1 performance in the Broncos’ 41-14 win over the Raiders on Monday Night Football. On that night, he caught nine passes 146 yards and a touchdown.

    CONGRATS TO BOTH PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!
Both were well deserved and should get Pro Bowl honors.
Royal For Rookie of the Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROYal for R.O.Y………has a nice ring to it. Honestly, I can’t think of another rookie that is having the kind of impact on games that Eddie is having right now. The kid is truly special. I figured this would be B-Marsh’s first pro-bowl year, but right now, it looks like Eddie deserves it more.

Side note: I have been living in AZ for 12 years now, and by default love the Cards as my NFC team (never a conflict of interest since the Broncos OWN them, and the Cards never make the playoffs). Who thinks we start to hear Kurt Warner and MVP being mentioned in the same sentence pretty soon? What Kurt is doing this season is truly remarkable for a 37 yr old guy.

More dangerous duo: Quan/Fitz or Marsh/Royal?

about time some broncos start getting some personal recognition!!!!

What do you guys think of the signing of Tatum Bell to our roster? Personally, with Cutler to throw the rock, I guess Bell is a competent enough RB to get the job done. Right?? Go broncos!!

  5. B-Marsh=#1 says:

Tatum will get 100 yards in his first game. Think he is a great RB for our team.

  6. 47rocksurworld says:

Tatum has had some good moments as a Bronco but he had problems hanging on to the ball. Shanahan probably has him walking around the Dove Valley with the ball in his hands, if he drops the rock on sunday they may cut the poor guy before the end of the game, and he will have to hitch a ride back to Denver.

  7. b4life says:

I wonder how long his contract is. This team has good depth at running back if they were all healthy its going to be intresting to see who stays and who goes at the end of the year. Selvin keep your underwear where you can see it.

  8. hrdnokd says:

As long as Bell doesn’t have to stand near anyones bags he should be ok. Anyone know who is getting the ax since Tatum is back in the saddle? My guess is Shaw.

  9. Smith's biggest fan says:

    Why not Mike Bell?

  10. BroncoRanger08 says:

Personally, i think Mike Bell was overrated. His run style really didnt fit the running scheme in Denver. T. Bell will be a good fit as long as he holds on to the ball. Curious on how Hayes will do.

First off, a HUGE congrats to Cutler & Royal for getting nominated… now I hope they win. They were incredible on Thursday and its been forever since any of our guys have been nominated for awards so I hope they get it. Of course, I don’t see how Cutler won win… the moment I”m done writing this I’m going to vote for him till the sun don’t shine anymore… or until the polls are closed. #6 rocks my world!!! I don’t want to take anything away from Royal… he deserves to win just as much, that kid is turning out to be BIG for our offense. I’ve never seen someone run like he can… blink and you miss him!!!

As for Tatum, I hope its true he got signed. As I remember he was awesome and he did alot of great things for us for the (very) short time he was with us. It seems like he was only a Bronco for 2 seconds. Its like a big blur. He already knows our system but if I remember correctly, I don’t remember him playing with Cutler as our QB… please correct me if I’m wrong. Its been so long I’m pretty sure I would’ve remembered if he was here when Cutler became our starter QB.

    Keep the faith…
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  12. Bailey'sBestFan says:

Hey every one lets just get somthing straight. It was MIKE BELL who has troubles holding the ball, and it was also MIKE BELL who snatched the underwear. Tatum Bell is AWESOME the ONLY reason we got rid of him was to make room for dre bly. But now that doesn’t matter because we have them both!!

    GO BRONCOS #6 MVP #19 R.O.Y

  13. MileHighMagic08 says:

Bailey’sbestfan, it was Tatum Bell doing the bag snatching down in Detriot. He took Rudy Johnsons bags, I guess he was pretty mad they signed another RB

  14. 2champ4pickSIX says:

As Bailey’sbestfan said it REALLY WAS MIKE BELL that had the fumblias disease, that is why we just flat out cut him. Also he was not willing to help in his FB responsibilities so we found someone who was. Then we cut him too, Cecil Sapp I liked him but Hillis is long ago made me forget! I think we should move Hillis to safety too! lol KIDDING! But that guy can do it all!
But yes MileHighMagic08 is right, Tatum snatched the bag of Rudy Johnson, and I agree he probably did do it out of spite because remember the week before they cut Kevin Jones, so it was just Tatum and some one else with Tatum starting!
As for you, you beautiful beautiful lady! You are completely correct in that Tatum did not play for us when Cutler took over. Infact he wasn’t even on the team when we drafted Cutler. We traded Bell and a the TE we used in goal line sets as an eligible receiver because he was also a backup linemen he was so big, to Detroit for Dre Bly. There were also some picks exchanged but don’t know what and to who.
Anyway, congrats on the nominees, and I think your repeated clicking paid off babe, Cutler was named AFC POW atleast.
As for you wormyblackburny, I watched PTI today on my lunch break and they discussed Kurt Warner and Kerry Collins being very legit MVP candidates! So that could go for ya. I don’t think Cutler gets MVP just yet, hasn’t been solid every game for the mass media. But ROY is a great chance for EDDIE, EDDIE, EDDIE! Always goes to a specialty player, although Clady is also well deserved for that, hopefully he atleast gets a Pro Bowl nomination. But as for other rookies, Deangelo Williams RB for the Panthers has a great shot at ROY, as well as Matt Forte, just because the media hates the Broncos!

Eddie and Jay are sure deserving of these awards - way to go guys!
