Jay Cutler has been named an ambassador Eli Lilly and Company’s Inspired by Diabetes campaign, the company announced Thursday.
Cutler will begin his involvement with the campaign during Super Bowl week in Tampa, visiting Tampa-area All Children’s Hospital to meet with families of children with type 1 diabetes. His message: encouraging people affected by diabetes to enter the Inspired by Diabetes global contest and help someone else in the process.
Cutler, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes last spring established himself as a top NFL quarterback with a Pro Bowl season in 2008.
“Diabetes is the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced, but I wasn’t going to let it slow down my career. And kids don’t have to let it stop them from reaching for the dreams,” Cutler said. “I’m honored to join the Inspired by Diabetes campaign to help people tell their stories of dealing with diabetes — and help kids who need it. This is a great way to reach people affected by this condition, and I’m looking forward to connecting with more families dealing with the ups and downs of this lifelong challenge.”

Jay has always been a class guy! Good job Jay – proud of you!
Jay has always been a leader on and off the field. He is a truly remarkable young man, and will be a great role model and ambassador to help beat this horrable disease. Thanks Jay!
Cutler! Way to go, we all love ya!
Far more class has been shown in his young carrier then Rivers could think of in a lifetime!
There is something quietly formidable about Mr Cutler. He epitomises all that is good in the young of America and faces a difficult illness with fortitude and grace.
He knows how difficult it is for all those who suffer from the illness and through his thoughtfulness and kindness he will help so many youngsters, not only in America but around the world.
Good Luck Jay, you are truly inspirational.
My family lost our father in 2001, and there are many other families that have lost loved ones due to complications from diabetes. He was a HUGE Broncos fan and you are representing a wonderful cause Jay. God bless.
Go Broncos ’09!!!
This is great for Jay! It is nice to hear something about our qb. It would be nice to hear from him and marshall about the offseason and the changes going on right now.
I have something else to say also….how come Royal or Ryan Clady aren’t in the rookie of the year debate? Royal was the #1 rookie wideout…where is the love? Clady was the best offensive lineman in the nfl in his rookie season…someone show me who was better and how come jake long is going to the pro bowl and clady isn’t jake long is good but not clady good…point blank clady hands down is a hell of a lot better than long
Jay is the man! he is very unselfish and giving, which makes him a great peson & a great football player.
jays the kinda guy every team wants leading there team the things he says he can back up by his play and his work off the field to make others lives better is tremendus. Denvers proud of you jay
Clady and Royal aren’t in the ROTY converstion because that conversation ended like almost 2 months ago. lol clady came in like 3rd or 4th in voting behind Chris Johnson and Matt Forte.
What an honor for Jay & I am so proud to be such a huge fan of this team & of our #6!! A true class act, with his dignity still in tact… they couldn’t have picked a better choice to help families & kids with the same situation he’s dealing with. This guy has a true heart of gold. So proud of you Jay!!!
The Mile High City is very blessed to have you on their side and representing them wherever you go. God bless!!
With faith…
GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!
Ugh… I just simply love Jay and his class… What in the world does rivers do???… Nothin’…
Jay is a class act…i know he will do great

Rivers will never amount to anything. 2009 Season is when the takeover of the AFC West begins, and the Chargers will live the Bronco games of the Elway days, Rivers better get used to loosing to the Broncos twice a year!
good for you jay. i too wanna here some are players talk, get a feeling what they are going through right now, while were here worried about where this team is going they are doing the same whille worrying about there future with this team and in the nfl, best wishes to all broncos
We are blessed to have Jay play for us!! broncoryan I agree with you Rivers better get used to loosing to the Broncos twice a year because when Jay retires he is going to the hall of fame,P. River is going to the hall of shame.
GO JAY CUTLER!!
Fellow denizens of Bronco Country, let’s agree Philip Rivers can’t hold a candle to Jay Culter. Jay will only increase in magnificence as the Broncos prepare to be a championship team. Meanwhile, the Chargers are in the process of alienating their “fans” as they have threatened to trade LaDainian. It’s ridiculous but it’s so typical of that loser A.J. Smith. If I could pick between him and a grocery bag to be the general manager of my franchise, the bag would be my pick every time.
Diabetes is scary and threatening to your health. A very terrible predicament for sure without medication. And I´m glad Jay Cutler has the gumption to stand up and represent for all the people that suffer from the disease, children or adults. He is a great comforter in that regard, and all the afflicted must appreciate his dedication.
Only thing I´m not so sure about is should he endorse a certain pharmaceutical brand? I mean he´s a wonderfull posterboy and all, but isn´t he limiting himself to take medication from that company only?
Maybe I´m being too scrutinous, but Jay Cutler´s interests in every regard should be on all his fans minds.
Rock and Roll, knock yourself out, Hurray for the treatability of Diabetes! But call me picky, isn´t ambassador an extreme designation. I mean endorsing Reebok or Nike or Goodyear or whatever is all fine and good, but putting yourself out there to say I take this medication and you should too, seems a little extreme to me.
As a type 1 diabetic myself, it is great to see someone with his exposure helping in the progressing of the awareness of this disease. I truly believe there will be a cure in the next 10-15 years and it is people like Jay that will help speed up that timeline with his ability to reach out to so many. Keep up the good work Jay.
Mooncamping-It is obvious you are ignorant to the entire Diabetes world. It is not just about taking medication, it is a method to live your life. In addition to “just taking” the medication, you have constantly consider your activity level, what food and drinks you consume, what your blood sugar level is, what happens if you do not have your insulin or the ability to raise your blood sugar. Eli Lilly is one of two major drug companies that manufacture insulin in a varitey of injection options. I don’t think being an ambassador is an endorsement for eli lilly as much as awareness of the disease. As I previously posted, it is guys like Jay that have the exposure that keeps donations to the Juvenile Diabetes foundation coming in, which will lead to the the cureing of diabetes. I think that is much more socially important then representing a clothing or shoe company. Hmm, help cure a disease or buy a type of shoe?
A little off topic, but Herm Edwards is out in Kansas City and sources are saying that Mike Shanahan will become their head coach.
Source: ESPN.com
NEWS FLASH!!!!!!!: ACCORDING TO NFL NETWORK/AND ADAM SHEFTER… SHANNAHAN WILL NOT (key word, NOT) be the coach for the Chiefs… and he said it a lot… There is a vid at NFL.com… he said they have had 0 contact….
Good because he could kick our ass.
…twice…
…per year…
lol
I’m proud of the work that Jay is doing. He’s a good guy, a class act. It’s amazing how many good things the fans have to say in this but yet, the reaction to this same news on the Message Boards was totally different.
Way to go Jay! Keep it up!
Congratulations to Jay. I would love to see Cutler and Wilford Brimley doing PSAs together.
I know of very few 25 year olds that have their own foundation. It’s good to see #6 making the most of his potential on and off the field. He is a class act and I’m getting sick of all the negative stuff that gets flung around the internet about him being a punk or a crybaby – get real – this guy’s the real thing. I think he’s great and can provide real leadership on and off the field. Eli Lilly is lucky to have them for a spokesperson. Good call.
I can’t wait to see him at the ProBowl!!! I attended his debut game in Denver, attended his first full regular season start game in Buffalo and now I’ll be attending his first Pro Bowl in less than 2 weeks – God, I’ve been lucky to see such momentous games in his career.
This is great, Im sooo proud to be a Broncos fan, with a class act QB.
Way to go Jay!
Jay is a class guy and a leader, I hope the Broncos overall get better as a team so that Cutler does not have to carry the team on his back, With a defense and running game. Jay could easily have a passer rating in the 100 and throw for 30+ touchdowns
