Cousin’s Recovery Motivates Miller

March 5th, 2013 - 2:03pm by Stuart Zaas

Inspired by the recovery of a cousin, who awoke from a coma after a car accident, Miller took to Twitter to share his surge of motivation for the upcoming season:

After his 6-year-old cousin, Jeremiah, emerged from a coma, he was asked different questions to test his memory. According to Miller, his first couple words were that his cousin, Von Miller, played for the Denver Broncos.

“It just moved me and I’m motivated and I’m going to work extremely hard, Miller told ESPN’s Colin Cowherd on ESPN Radio on Tuesday. “Not like I haven’t done it before, but this year it’s just a little bit extra for me and I’m extremely motivated.”

Miller also told Cowherd that his tweet was just a personal message to share his story.

“I’m not speaking for anybody else,” he said on the show. “I’m speaking for me and the work I’m going to do and the work I’m putting in this year, but I bet I have some guys in the locker room that’s willing to work with me and take the path I’m willing to take.”

If by March 17th Doom doesnt agree to whatever Denver is planning with his contract he will likely be cut. His 3.3 mil cost to cut his much cheaper than his 14 mil cap hit this year.

McShay has Denver taking Xavier Rhodes at #28. A 6’2″ corner, with a 4.43 40. Sign me up.

Id prefer a FA corner but i wouldnt mind if we drafted one either. I want a corner with experience ready to play and win.

Adams played a lot against TEs this year. He did good but not great. I would like a late round CB specifically for that role (effectively a Safety). To play man coverage on a TE, he doesn’t have to have the elite speed or quickness that a typical corner possesses but I rather a guy who had the background in man coverage. Said CB/S would need to be tall and have some meat on him.

So maybe I understand getting a CB but I had a specific role in mind and would actually consider the guy a safety. The specific role is irrelevant to Chris Harris being an outside CB or a nickle CB.

The roster spot I am talking about replacing is Jim Leonard. Although, Q. Carter will be back too.

  5. OTbroncos says:

For the record, I can understand the hesitation to draft a CB with our first pick, given our complete inability to draft one properly in the past. Bolden is the only CB on the roster that was drafted by the Broncos, and he was just drafted last year.. We have wasted pick after pick throughout the years on CB’s, but they all have been either undersized or marred with off the field issues. We need to let this defensive minded coaching staff draft the pick of the litter at #28 to reverse this trend IMO.

  6. strandoftds82 says:

I seriously think we don’t need a CB. If we do draft one I’ll be surprised.

  7. OTbroncos says:

I think we’re going to take the BPA, and the way to draft may go, it very well might be a CB. Brace yourself! LOL

  8. OTbroncos says:

Our desire to renegotiate Dumervil’s contract or part ways, and the asking price for Revis, is why we need to focus the top half of the draft to pass rush and a corner IMO.

  9. OTbroncos says:

If you won a game show, and your prize was a new car, would you choose one you could afford on your own, or would you pick one that might be out of your price range?

New info: NFL sources tell the Broncos WILL explore a deal with Dwight Freeney if they can’t work things out with Elvis.

  11. alaskanbronco06 says:

    Vic Lombardi ‏@VicLombardi
Heck, they could get Freeney and another free agent for the 12-mill they’d have to pay Elvis. They can begin negotiating with FA’s Sat night.

Actually we were like THE worst against TEs. We need better SS play. Why I wanted Vaccaro. Can even slide in and play CB. He is considered a very versatile safety. But he wont get to us so i thing we draft Shawn Williams from Georgia in the third. Either way I am cool with more for now, i believe he will get better but our SS needs work. We need someone more intimidating against the run and that can stick with TEs. Mike Adams is not it and we have been searching for it forever, so long that we fultured other teams guys such as lynch and Dawk at the end of their SS careers. They are not easy to find. Also I need Rahim moore who was supposedly drafted as a ball hawk to work on his hands. He is there sometimes. Just drops it. But i have faith in moore still, … for now.

DOOM has collected mucho dinero, i hope he doesn’t mind restructuring … even got hurt as soon as he got contract. And is a bit of a liability against the run. Still love him to death tho. Gloom needs Doom and maybe freeney can be Boom or something lol. Now Freeney will be Batman, Doom will be night wing, and von is still robin lmao.

    I like the move

  14. strandoftds82 says:

I see Doom restructuring a deal to remain a Bronco. He’s no dummy. LOL

  15. OTbroncos says:

I’m just glad we have a GM who graduated from Stanford with a degree in Economics, who isn’t afraid the pull the trigger.

  16. strandoftds82 says:

ESPN has mentioned other teams who might make a play for Revis and Denver was not mentioned.

  17. OTbroncos says:

*whose father was an NFL scout

  18. RH709 says:

Man. I never thought I would here of Doom as being on the chopping block.

Best bet would be extending his contract a few years then then redistribute the cash and add a few extra mill to the grand total. I’d hate to see him go.

  19. OTbroncos says:

The salary cap has changed the game as we know it. Adapt or die.

  20. OTbroncos says:

*the salary cap together with new age free agency

  21. strandoftds82 says:

Its nothing new, its been going on this way since 1993. Theres always loop holes. No worries.

  22. alaskanbronco06 says:

RH from what im have been seeing extending and redistributing is closer to what Denver hopes to do instead of flat out restructuring. They want him for a long time and want to lower his cap hit #’s. Thats the best way to do just that.

  23. OTbroncos says:

Player salaries at the premiere positions is going up faster than the salary cap, which makes it increasingly difficult to build a Championship team.

  24. OTbroncos says:

The loop hole, IMO, would be to use your top draft picks to address those positions.

  25. strandoftds82 says:

They have to restructure Dooms contract, those are crazy numbers, 12 million. Aint gonna happen. Doom will work with the Broncos and restructure. Doom loves it here and sees this team as favorites to go the distance and play in the SB.

  26. strandoftds82 says:

Don’t be surprised if we trade back into the 2nd round again to accumulate some picks, it might very well happen.

  27. OTbroncos says:

I could see another trade back as well strand. If we did, I’d like to see what we get in return, which will finally put the Xanders debate to bed..

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

The thing it OT that with the trades with Xanders, John Elway and John Fox gave the ok to pull them as well.

  29. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand Doom does love Denver. He is open to the idea but will resistant to it at the same time. Just leveraging from him to get what he wants. His agent will be contacting other teams when he is allowed to (Saturday 12 am ET to Tuesday 3:59 pm ET) to gauge what Dooms value would be if he were to be cut.

  30. alaskanbronco06 says:

    New blog.

  31. OTbroncos says:

What we got in return form those in-draft trades was below what the charts were saying, and Doug Martin was there for the first one, so it wasn’t like there weren’t any good players on the board. These decisions are made within minutes, and you also have to keep track of the board, etc. I have a hard time believing that the then GM didn’t negotiate those terms.

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

OT I didnt say he did or didnt. From what has been known it ws part of Xanders responsibilities. However he didnt pull the trigger on trades without the ok from Elway and Fox. They made it very clear on that. All decisions during the draft (Trades and who they picked) were made by the three of them.

  33. OTbroncos says:

Agreed. We don’t know what happened. But once it’s negotiated, all that can asked is whether it’s the best you can get.
