Andra Davis has spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns. Now he’s traded in his jersey for a new shade of orange — and added a little blue.
“This is a new beginning for me,” Davis said to the media on Thursday. “I’m very excited, and I can’t wait for the opportunity to go out there and play.”
For now, Davis and the rest of the Broncos are doing what it takes to get prepared to play — strength and conditioning.
And while the eighth-year linebacker said he’s only had a couple chances to speak with Head Coach Josh McDaniels, he’s gotten up close and personal with Strength and Conditioning Coach Rich Tuten.
“This week’s been going so fast, I’ve just been in there with Rich the whole time — I know a lot about him in four days,” he said with a laugh. “He’s got be breathing hard like this right now.”
And it was apparent the players are working hard — Davis wiped his forehead with a towel between every question from the media.

Fellow free-agent signee Darrell Reid agreed that the offseason conditioning program is hard work, but you get out of it what you put in.
“You know when the offseason comes, it’s going to be a lot of work,” he said. “But that equals productivity when the season comes.”
And Reid is looking forward to the season just as much as Davis — and part of the reason is because of Davis.
Reid is familiar with good defense — the defensive lineman/linebacker combo was part of a 2007 Indianapolis Colts defense that led the league in scoring defense. He said he believes the key to a solid defense is a total team effort, led by veteran leaders.
“I think we have that now, especially with us getting Brian Dawkins and Andra Davis,” he said.
For now the players are content with putting the work in now to get to where they want to go this season. And Reid said that for one he feels like the coaching staff has a vision for where they want the team to be, and the team is ready to follow.
“I feel it in the air,” Reid said. “I feel that change. I feel that difference. I feel that vision. It’s early, but it’s slowly molding.”

good post
Welcome to Denver guys!!
Nice to hear you guys are feeling the change, the energy, the possibilties. You have a fantastic opportunity to be the start of great things in Denver. Don’t be distracted by the Cutler non-sense, the Broncos will take the field and you will have your opportunity to bring back the glory of the ORANGE CRUSH!!!!!
Work hard, see you soon!
Go Broncos, I can’t wait until all this other QB junk is out of the way so we can get down to it, maybe it will be all over on draft day.
Personally, I hope it’s all resolved before draft day, one way or the other. I’m still hoping that Cutler will realize that he should be our qb but if he thinks that McDaniels should backoff and apologize, i don’t think so, he’s the coach.Every player from day 1 to retirement is subject to being released or traded. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome every new player to the team. I can honestly say that I’m very excited about what has been achieved this free agency. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BRONCOS.
YOU GUYS KNOW WHAT’S FUNNY??
..All any of really want to talk about and get resolved first and foremost is this Cutler Mess. No one really gives a crap about Davis or Ried right now. Barely any of the comments on any of the blogs are about their actual topic..lol!!
WE JUST WANT THIS CUTLER THING RESOLVED!!
I haven’t been this torn as a bronco fan in ..I don’t know when ..EVER!!
It is SO SIMPLE too. All that McDaniels has to do is swallow his pride and tell Jay he’s our man. Despite his contradicting talk already (stating Jay was our QB “in a live press conference no less” and then seeking a trade)
…all the guy has to do is say “hey I tried to trade you it didn’t work and now you are definitely our guy” …that’s ALL Cutler wants to hear…dispite them firing bates (after Bowlen said offense wouldn’t change)…dispite him trying to TRADE Jay after telling him he was our guy…dispite everything else ” and mcDaniels won’t do it!!!!
McDaniels won’t just swallow a little bit of his pride (not give up control or his position as leader) …Just make the guy feel appreciated and wanted on the team!!! ..that’s it!! That’s all Cutler has asked for, andhe cant humble himself JUST A LITTLE and say ” yo we don’t feel we were wrong in any way seeking a trade but since it didn’t work out..we don’t want anyone else, now you’re our guy.
HOLY CRAP…that’s really how simple it is!!
Sorry for venting, but i would hate to see Cutler leave Denver period, let alone over something so stupid from an inexperienced leader.
And correct me if i’m wrong but as a Bronco fan I DON’T WANT TO “BE” THE PATRIOTS, I WANT TO “BEAT” THE PATRIOTS!! I want to do it with OUR guys (that means Cutler)..not be the Denver Patriots. As if the broncos couldn’t win so they had to bring half the NEP in!! GIMME A BREAK
What signing r you guys most excited about?? I would LOOOVE to see some stability at the CB position opposite Champ! Cuz you gotta figure if they lock down the oppositions WR’s the inside rush is innevitable, right??
What do you guys think?
if you guys could choose between Maualuga or Cushing, who would you choose to be the LB that Denver picks in the draft? Just between those two guys!! People are throwing Maualuga in our direction, but I just can’t get sold on him as a durable factor for our team!!
Then they say Cushing is more of a force on any team, & he just seems to have more determination, you know?? They are even comparing him to Romanowski! Let’s hope it isn’t on EVERY phase of his personality, but is a football player, that’s pretty high praise, right??
It’s not about the trade, it’s not about being traded now, it’s about the money. Jay wants more money, the Broncos showed their hand. The message from willing to trade for Cassell was that the Denver Broncos are willing to spend 14 million at the quarterback position. Cutler is wondering why not spend 14 million on him versus Cassell. Cutler is individually outperforming his contract. If the organization is willing to spend the money on the quarterback but not on him, what are they telling him?…That he is not wanted. He might not of wanted changes with Shanahan and Bates, but he did go to Dove Valley during his off season for two weeks to learn the system. This shows his willingness to move on and learn the system and then he is put on the trading block. Don’t let Cutler get away, it would be a big mistake. Bowlen has to pay him now rather than in three years and thats the organizations fault. Take responsibility for your bad judgment. Always a Bronco Fan, even though I am ashamed of managements actions.
Like to see how we attack the D-line in the draft. Davis and Goodman are great additions. Dream first and second round picks (assuming Raji and Curry will be gone) would be Tyson Jackson and Ron Brace respectively.
Wow…This whole website is not giving any information on the Cutler situation. It is on every other sports website except this one. It’s as if the Broncos don’t want their fans to know about this. What’s the point!!!!!!!
Anyway I was looking at some mock drafts, and someone had Mark Sanchez going to the Broncos. I thought that was stupid too. The Broncos should not trade Cutler. Ever. They should bench him a week, but not trade him. Unfortunately, It seems that he will get traded. I also saw one possible trade that could happen between 3 teams. The Broncos give Cutler to the Jets. The Browns give Brady Quinn to Denver, and the jets give some draft picks to the Browns. Or something like that.
Josh McDaniels would probably want Quinn because Quinn was coached under Charlie Weis. Weis and McDaniels were both with the Patriots at one time. Eric Mangini would also be helping his former team too.
I don’t know what will happen, but it won’t be good..
I like Maualuga, because he is more built for a 3-4 defense to me. I think he was great in college, Cushing too, but I give the edge to Maualuga.
It’s been said that those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it. In the case of Culter, I absolutely hope so. Elway was almost traded by Reeves. Reeves drafted a quarterback when Elway was still in his prime. Did everybody know that Elway hated Reeves? Absolutely. What did Elway do? Did he pout and demand to be traded? Did he get his agent involved? No, No, No. He worked harder than before. He never, never missed a single organized team activity. He showed that he was a true leader who was going to set an example that other teammates would look up to and aspire to match. Culter, you’ve compared yourself to Elway. To truly be comparable to Elway, do as he did. Get so good that you can make the owner choose between you and the head coach a few years down the road and have the owner choose you. Elway did. Are you willing to follow his example?
oldsouthstander…Great point but Jay is not a leader. Never has been. When things dont go as planned is when peoples true colors show. Jay needs a pacifer instead of a mouthpiece.
Maualuga is a beast plain and simple. Cushing didnt even play 3rd downs. There is no comparisons. As for Jay, he will be dealt before the draft starts. Coach will not except players that think they are bigger than the team which is how championship teams run anyways. I am guessing Brady Quinn will be over here next month. Maybe Mr Bowlan will let us send in our Cutler jerseys and replace them for free with Brady Quinn jerseys. Just a thought, As for the new guys I am pumped and excited. Welcome….
scgoff, when did jay go to dove valley for two weeks to learn the system? cushing, IMO, is the one to go after just b/c of the hard hitting factor. they say speed kills, but it is not the speed, it is the sudden stop. we need another romo, atwater, or L alzado. these were hard hitters but what they did most was fire up the whole TEAM.
That’s a good point 19eddie… It’s not a good thing to ignore.
I guess this is the only type of publication that DOESN’T want to focus on negativity… at least, until it’s certain/too late.
I literally can’t remember a better potential for our defense since the Days… And am excited of all our acquisitions thus far O & D – save releasing Ekuban and Leach for NE’s long-snapper – Reggie Rivers had a post that pointed out how curious the Leach release was…
I do have t say the ONE thing I know and have confidence in is either our new GM’s and/or McD’s eye for acquiring talent – just look at the great guys we have JUST from F.A. – and am anticipating the draft more than I possibly could since (obviously Cutler-ness and)I got over Shannahan gettin’ fired (He had THE best eye for offensive talent-potential). If ony Mr. Bowlen would persade Mike to come back and help somehow? : )
If Jay does leave, you’ll definitely be like losin’ Mike or Elway, man… And I’ve just barely gotten ta know ya…Just some thoughts, I guess…
Love the Broncos and ALL of you fans who understand what it means to RESPECT and LOVE the game.
GFunk
I have been a Bronco fan since I was nine years old. Craig Morton won me over from Roger the Dodger! If Cutler is thrown away, I will have serious issues with the Bronco organization. So with that said, I have three questions for JAY, PAT and Coach:
1) Trade Cutler and who benefits?
2) Keep Cutler and who benefits?
3) Why would any sane person consider number one?
You guys, all Bronco Fans included, are nuts if you think someone can do better than Jay! Please do not help Cutler’s agent out on this issue.
What I really hope to see is getting a bone crusher in the draft and then for the coach to put the team in pads and teach them how to tackle!!!!The kind of tackling that leaves a lasting impression. You know the impression that has other teams saying, “damn, we have the Broncos next week.”
So heres the deal.. through all the bloggin and rumors goin around. ill be the first to tell u tht if cutler and mcdaniels can some how repair this relationship. id be jumpin for joy. but the honest truth is its pretty doubtful. both guys have huge egos nd they liars and very good at deception. Everybody knows wuh mcdaniels did nd how he tried to hide it under the rug or wuhever then u got jay sayin he asked for a trade after he found out he was bout to get shipped out for cassle wen in actuallity he asked to be traded not only wen shanny got fired but also wen they fired the O. coordinator. he bein a lil B$%th nd i cant stand that. But enough about tht … Heres to wuh i really wanna tlk bout.
So alot people are sayin tht wit the damage tht has been caused in denver cutler needs to be traded nd blah blah blah. ok cool wuhever. I dnt want him to leave cuh the guys phenomenal. but if he must in my opinion two teams are the only good choices. the 2 teams being the browns, lions. the lions of course because they have the #1 pick. but the browns are much more entriguing. bcuz of 1 person Brady Quinn. now dont get it twistd Quinn is no cutler by any means. buh if we must let him go. to me quinn is the only solid option. we could get quinn nd that first rounder for maybe cutler nd a 3 or somethin. or quin nd shaun rogers for cutler nd a pick. now i know people are gonna be like no way thts ignorant. But hear me out. Mcdaniels is jus as much an offensive mastermind as shanahan in their own right. Jay is a gunslinger. the type u dnt find often in the league so any team would be happy to grab him.. BUUTTT mcdaniels doesnt need tht he jus needs a smart qb wit good enough arm strength tht can run his style offense. nd who can do tht ? Brady Quinn. Quinn thus far has had terrible years in the league thus far buh hey maybe hes a system qb. U bring him here he could burst into a top qb in a year or two. I hate the fact that this is even up for discussion but since it is. Quinn would do wonders for the team if cutler doesnt wanna be here. U dnt believe check out these stats in college under the same style offense.
Brady Quinn

Now by no means am i in anyway sayin quinn would do better than Jay but hey if u gotta let him go. then here ya go. ha but Wit tht said if a trade must happen. which i really hope it doesnt. Then bring in Brady quinn. nd lets get this drama done with.
YO FEEDBACK ON THIS ONE.. Positive or negative idc. Jus wanna know wuh all the fans like myself think of bringin in Quinn if we gotta get rid a Jay. SO FEEDBACK LEMME KNO
LATTTERRR DDUUDDEEESSSS
Welcome to the Broncos guys, hope you can bring some swagger to this defense, lord knows the defense needs the help. Now if we can just get McDaniels to have a moment of sanity. Jay be the better man the team needs you!
this is crazy you guys cutler is not crying (those saying that don’t know anything about the game) he is treating this like a business….you bring in simms who has only threw the ball twice and he will make more than cutler this year and they were willing to spend 14 mill on cassell and cutler is better than both of those guys…only thing you gotta do to keep our QB that I want on the team is give him more money than the 2nd string qb (b/c that isn’t right) and tell him he is the guy…. What is so special about this system that every other qb can fit in except cutler? Nothing; every other coach coming outta ne is in their second job as a coach because they sucked….what is mcd going to do run the same system…Bill knew one day he would leave and all that play that ne did wasn’t mcd that was bills playbook through and through…mcd wasn’t above bill…do not care what you say mcd hasn’t coached a team and we are letting cutler go because of him what will we do after cutler is gone and is beating the crap outta us and he will be the one that got away…and if you say cutler sucks you are not all there and would be lying to yourself! And trade for Brady Quinn that guy sucks he is not that good to trade straight up and give the browns the draft picks and cutler to the jets…(if we got rid of cutler it better not be for quinn and no draft picks…I don’t think that is going to work out like you guys think..if anything we need to draft a qb like stafford or freeman and give them the reigns that is IF we get rid of cutler! I am a Bronco fan and I know in my gut that this is a bad move for the broncos…pat bowlen is the worst owner for fans but the best owner in sports if you are a coach because the team is basically yours and bowlen just wants his face on the tv looking goofy….he would look crazy firing mcd after we let cutler go because then we are in for 4 and 5 win seasons…I guess we can start looking forward to the #1 pick in the draft within the next couple of years if this gos down! Come on guys look at everything you are down for trading cutler basically because of mcd and if he wasn’t here nobody and I mean nobody would be talking about trading him! cutler wants to be appreciated for his work not lied to and stabbed in the back…I remember mcd said he came to denver and his main reason for coming was that it was the total package and to coach cutler…yeah he did say he came because of cutler! If bill got fired by chance and came here he would not trade cutler because tom brady will be in ne until his career ends and other than brady I really dont think he would trade cutler because he isn’t a rookie coach and knows when he has a good thing! It is b.s. that cutler needs to study the system that much (he needs to study it but this isn’t his first time playing qb) he has been a qb since high school he has learned plenty of systems playing the game…he is a winner and we all know that the players on the team want him back and they dont even have to say anything! The system whatever it has in it is still football not polo and jay is a football player! dont kid yourselves we all know who we can win with and it is cutler…. How many players have we gotten that never do anything and we finally get someone good and they are about to be gone because pat bowlen might own this team but has never ever been in control except when he fired reeves for messing with elway and cutler had a better third year than elway….every player can be traded and every coach can be fired…lets give cutler a new contract with more money and put in it that he has to change agents and please just tell the guy that we need him like you said when you first got here mcd “Cutler is a big part of what we will be doing!” END QUOTE Bronco Fans I ask you to see reason…and just because you pull for your qb doesn’t mean you are going against the team…
mcd was a good oc but the plays he choose was the plays bill put in the book…not every good oc makes a good coach…at least if we get rid of him someone agree that quinn isn’t worth it not for jay…if quinn was so good he would be doing big things like cutler is….sorry that is the way I feel
i really want cushing in the draft! is a beast and better than rey…he would be what we need someone to have a presence on the field that intimidates the offense
Heh the lies just need to stop from all sides, somebody needs to grow up and take care of this. Mr Bowlen you are to good of a man to let this continue, you are paying more money for Chris Simms to be the backup than you are for Jay. This will be a distraction for the team, this team can’t afford to be sidetracked! If you are getting rid of Jay do it and get it over with. If not you need to make little man step up and tell everyone it will not happen under any circumstances. If it is about money pay him you were willing to pay 14 mil plus to a guy that was almost cut from the Patriots team last year ( according to one website can’t think of which right know) and took over with a very good offense. Does this mean he would have been great here we will never no, but doubtful. Do us all a favor put everyone out of their misery one way or another, I plan on coming to watch the Broncos play the Chargers at home I want to see number 6 leading the offense not somebody to fill in because the new coach can’t get it right the first time. Heh McDaniels your career is resting on your making the right decision, don’t quite know how you sleep at night with this hanging over your head? Maybe it is time to get it over with!
I see what you are saying he would be a better fill in without the best option for the team which is jay cutler…but if we don’t have jay cutler and we get a struggling quinn and a simms that has thrown the ball as much as my son why not just draft one of the top qbs because we could really do that but we will be rebuilding and make mcd show us how he can build a qb since he proudly says he brought cassell up..me I don’t think cassell was that good it was more of the surrounding guys on the offense! Cassell will fail in kc and I can’t wait for cushing to put a hit on him that puts him out of commission …simms was never that good….he was average at best
PLEASE BRING US CUSHING THE PUSHING BEAST
it will not be the same watching the broncos with someone else under center when we already had a pro bowl qb who just broke franchise records….Elway was the man and in Jay’s third year he set a franchise record that will be hard for anyone else to beat….man I wish mcd would be doing what he said he was going to do right about now and that was to make jay better! Mcd you said he would LOVE the system b/c it was qb friendly! How can you bring up a guy ( and brag about it so much ) that was a backup and install him in one of the best offenses in history but you can’t better Jay Cutler and don’t have an idea how to coach the guy and try to make him make smarter and lower the ints…just do your job man that is all you had to do………I have never seen a rookie coach come to such a GREAT team and such a high powered team on offense and really crappy on the defense and come in and mess it all up….You took the best job out there and NO rookie coach has ever came to such a potent team….you are lucky that we picked you over someone else…you could be in Detroit!
Hey welcome Davis and Reid! It’s great to hear you guys are excited about the change and can feel it in the air. That is very exciting to hear! I think you both are good pickups and will definitely help get the D out of the cellar in 2009! Go Defense!!!!
Speaking of defense, I agree with BRONCOHOLICO. Another CB would be great to pick up after losing Paymah, but I’m not sure about getting one in the draft.
I have said it before but haven’t gotten any feedback on it so how about it?
Pacman is available, and please don’t insult my intelligence, I KNOW the baggage coming with this guy. However, the prognosticators in Dallas had him as the best CB on the Cowboys team last year and he is a heck of a return man too.
I think it’s possible he has learned his lesson in Dallas, and we could probably sign him cheap for 1 year only and then see what happens. I think he would be a great CB in Denver and I would give him a chance. He could learn A LOT from Champ.
i dunno bout n e 1 else but im excited 2 see davis play
Forget about what I said earlier. I don’t want Rey or Cushing. I want Raji.
I really think that B.J. Raji will fall to 12. Orakpo, Curry and Everette Brown’s stocks are going up and I see Raji falling into our hands.
Yeah Either Raji or Brown. Whoever makes it past the Bills.
texark-fan,

” After getting tutored by McDaniels on the Broncos’ new playbook in the days leading up to the Cassel trade, Cutler felt he was misled by his coach and didn’t buy the explanation the Broncos were only listening to offers presented by other clubs.”
http://www.denverpost.com/broncosheadlines/ci_11810112
“”What bothers me about this is I’ve been dropping in there regularly the last 2 1/2 weeks, dealing with these guys, talking to Mr. Bowlen, talking to Josh, talking to (offensive coordinator) Mike McCoy,” Cutler said. “Day to day . . . and they didn’t reach this point yesterday, you know what I mean? It’s been in motion for a while.”
Reflecting, Cutler said he thought some of the Broncos officials “were acting strange” around him.”
Here are a couple of references, I think there was more on Rocky Mountain News but they have offically removed the servers.
To all you Quinn fans – Have you forgotten the game against the Browns? It was touted as a QB dual. Brady couldn’t get it going against a lackluster defense. How in the heck do you think he is going to help the Broncos????
Also – don’t even think about a trade with Leinart. He is not what he is touted to be. As I now reside in Arizona, I am very thankful that the Cards kept Warner. Take it from someone who knows, Leinart can not compete with Cutler’s performance – both on and off the field!
i know that he’s projected to go a little lower in the 1st, but i think tyson jackson of lsu could be a great addition for us on the d-line. if they make the mistake of trading cutler, does anyone remember what quinn did at notre dame, absolutely nothing! i can’t see a current qb in the league or draft with as much upside as cutler. the only problem is the downside of having cutler’s agent in the mix, this guy is a sleaze.
mcd you dropped the ball hard man and you need to pick that rock up and take it to the house…the one in ne! I really never wanted mcd to come ruin our team…we have changed so much and I wouldn’t mind so much if it was a good change but sh*t has hit the fan…our own website really isn’t even posting stuff like they used to and never holding a press conference when that would prolly fix somethings! You have to almost beg Bill Belichick to get him to release anything…tight ship to keep the dirt in the house approach I see well I want my team back…come on why can’t our team come out and say something about the situation….make a move already so if you are letting jay go…us fans can move on! I hope McDaniels watches total access…I don’t think he does because if he did he would realize he fumbled on the 1 yard line…make this better please…..you guys keep putting stuff on the site that really isn’t what our minds are on right now…….Pat is this where you wanted this team to go?….because if so it shows that you really don’t care anymore!!!!!!!!!!
Any chance you guys could have a chat with Champ? – I’d love to know what he thinks of playing with Brian Dawkins.
DenverPost reported around 10 teams called this week inquiring about CUTLER…. THE BRONCOS TOLD THEM THEY ARE NOT TRADING CUTLER.
Just cuz you support your QB doesnt make you less of a fan and Ill be the first to tell you I am with cutler all the way on this situation. When McD tries o trade cutler everyone says “cutler is a wuss, its a business and he should know it” well guess what? Now he is treating it as a business as well and is trying to get payed. How you like them apples?
Never was a fan of bringing McD here and his rookie mistake might cost us darely. If cutler goes, I have no control over that, Ill still be a Bronco fan till I die but McD will never hear the end of it and neither will these blogs cuz ill curse his name everyday and ask for him to be fired.
Simms will make more money than cutler this ear and they were willing to give Cassel the one year wonder good money but not a proven pro bowler and possibly the most talented oung QB in the game…gimme a break.
Give him the money and tell him and show him that you believe you can win with him because as it sands McDs shady deals made cutler feel like he was going around behind my back cuz he doesn’t think he can win with me. No QB wants to hear that. Give him the money, If McD hadn’t done this shadiness i can guarantee Cutler would not be asking for money yet. He started the storm now he has to pay it forward. Stuff happens, it already has and theres only one solution now.
ORANGE CRUSH ALL DAY!!!
CUTLER AINT GOING NO WHERE!!!
GO BRONCOS!!!
PS: Welcome Ried and Davis. Sucks that u had to come during a controversial time when our team is in partial disarray but i like how all the team members are keeping focused and saying “they have no control over the front office and they are just gonna be coming in and doing their job”. Lets function through Distractions.
I’ve been silent and just been reading the blogs cause I didn’t want to get mixed up in this HUGE MESS concerning Cutler but ya both Cutler and McD. made mistakes and they are both cocky but you are wrong if you think Cutler is a cry baby and not looking at this like a business. Look the team brings in Simms who doesn’t have half the talent Jay does and he’ll be making more this year? And the team management proved they were willing to spend 14 million on Cassel who also isn’t nearly as good as Cutler and Cutler knows it. He wants the money he deserves. I hope the franchise can just pay him a new contract and get this whole mess behind us and go become AFC. CHAMPS!!!!!!
welcome to Denver new FA’s. keep up the work. Bring it home in ’09! Punches n Bunches
Why have we gotten all of these mediocre runningbacks when ricky williams is out there he could put us back on top
scgoff, thanks read both. i picked up on 2 things that have not been brought up.
1) when jay was saying “I am upset………or if they don’t think they can sign me with my next contract.” this feeds back to the fact Bus Cook is stiring the pot.
2) was his “i don’t play for the coaches……..as long as we keep the guys we’ve got, i’ll go out there and play……” this leads me to think jay is a little over demanding.
everyone still needs to remember BUS COOK has not played his trump card, yet! this will be the one that might brake the camels back if bowlen does not put a stop to it soon.
You know it truly is a shame when people these days in general cant seem to just be honest with eachother. Its a very disheartening situation to know that our franchise qb could be shipped off over some sensless bickering that can easily be repaired. I guess selfishness comes first in this business but thats nothing that you fguys dont already know. For shame.
The following is compliments of Woody Paige.
In 1983 the Colts drafted a young, pouting, defiant quarterback who demanded to be traded, and he was sent to Denver. The Colts didn’t recover until drafting another great quarterback No. 1 in 1998, Peyton Manning.
In 1991 the Cleveland Browns hired the league’s youngest head coach. He feuded with his starting quarterback, Bernie Kosar (who had lifted the Browns to three AFC championship games, only to lose to the Broncos), and eventually replaced him with Vinny Testaverde. Kosar took over for the injured Troy Aikman in the NFC championship and led the Cowboys to the victory.
The Browns coach, with a 36-44 record, was fired after the 1995 season. Bill Belichick.
Shall we be clear about McJaygate? After the first reports about the trade gone awry surfaced, coach Josh McDaniels told Mike Klis of The Denver Post: “We don’t want to trade Jay. We never did. He’s our quarterback.”
A few days ago McDaniels told Peter King of Sports Illustrated that he did pursue a deal with New England for Matt Cassel, but “I think we were too late to the dance.”
This is not a prom. It’s pro football.
If I were the coach, I’d fly to Nashville and tell Cutler: “I’m sorry. I made a rookie mistake. You’re our quarterback.”
But, Josh, and Jeff and Jody and you, go ahead and run Jay out of Our Dusty Old Cowtown, for spite.
eternalorangeandblue i agree i mean yea jay should man up and take it but josh mc d should lower his pride and be like jay i appolgize that it offended you your a great QB we wwant to keep u i was just trying to bring some1 who knew my scheme so it would be easier to coach it. how hard was that?
There’s always a reason that teams don’t hire a 32 year old head coach. It seems that we are witnessing exactly why.
brian_schneider i think he’ll be a good coach he just needs to leave the o alone
brian_schneider – McD made a HUGE mistake that isn’t a question. But that has NO bearing on his ability to be a good coach whatsoever.
kase78matt – How would he leave the O alone? Did Shanahan leave his playbook in the top drawer of his desk with yellow sticky notes and detailed instructions on how to run the offense?
He can’t leave the O alone and be a Head Coach. It’s impossible. He does need to apologize to Jay and Bowlen needs to pay him what he’s worth and just get it done and keep him here, period.
I think Jay and McD could possibly be magic together if they can put this behind them.
If we don’t get Raji in round one, then I would really like to have his teammate Ron Brace in Rd. 2. In Rd. one I would either have Maualuga, Cushing, Raji or Everette Brown.
I would like to say that I’m excited about the roster moves this off season.
Back to Jay tho… God knows I have a major “man crush” on Cutler. As does most of Broncos country. However, I do believe it is all about the almighty dollar. If Denver were to pay up and give Jay more money with a bigger contract – this would all go away. I know it would be a slap in my face if you offered a QB 3 times what I make to come play for you knowing that right before last season, he was about to be cut, probably never to play in the NFL again. I am, however, a bigger Broncos fan then I am a Cutler fan. Always will be. With that said, I know the outcome will ultimately be a bad divorce between our young extremely talented Jay, and our beloved Broncos.
Check out this rumor I found on foxsports.com
“POINT NO. 3
The Jay Cutler saga just got a little more interesting this past Wednesday.
OK, so by now you might be getting as bored with the Jay Cutler trade talk as you used to get every time you heard that Brett Favre was retiring.
Ho-hum.
But when I learned earlier this week from one of my sources that the Broncos had lined up a private workout with West Virginia quarterback Pat White, just one day after the New England Patriots took a look at him, I found some renewed interest in the finger-pointing fiasco that’s been playing-out in Denver.
I honestly think the Broncos are preparing for the worst—a messy-divorce with their young, talented quarterback. And with the various trade scenarios that are being rumored, one common theme is evident: The Denver Broncos won’t have a quarterback as talented as Jay Cutler at the top of their depth chart when the dust settles.
So the interest in Pat White as a potential quarterback candidate for the team is a viable one, providing the team with a versatile athlete who could compete with Chris Simms and whatever other quarterback ends up in Denver prior to draft weekend.
While some NFL teams may only consider adding him to their roster as a wide receiver and return specialist, more teams have undoubtedly become intrigued by the athletic quarterback after watching him throw for 332 yards and three touchdowns in his final bowl game, witnessing his MVP performance at the Senior Bowl and then calmly zipping accurate passes at the NFL Scouting Combine.
If you’re among the doubters that don’t believe a six-foot tall, mobile quarterback can be successful at the pro level, don’t forget about a guy named Michael Vick. Before his off-the-field activities landed him in jail, he was one of the most exciting players in the league to watch on any given Sunday.
In Vick’s two years as a starter at Virginia Tech, he averaged roughly 1,500 yards passing and 600 yards rushing per season. As a four-year starter, White’s also thrown for about 1,500 yards per year, but he rolled-up roughly 1,100 yards on the ground each season, setting an NCAA all-time record for rushing by a quarterback.
Wouldn’t it be fun to see what he could do as a quarterback in the NFL? I hope the team that drafts him gives him that opportunity. And it could be Denver,
I for one would be excited to get this QB – since reality says Jay is going elsewhere.
A. DAvis is going to be one of the d’s best players. With Champ, BDawk, and DAvis were going to have a great run stop team. I liked the direction the team was going before the Mcdaniels fiasco…i like Mcdaniels as a coach but common BDAWK has more NFL Exp. then COach along with alot of players…neways…i think the coach messed up bigtime on this one and is going to ruin the season..i hope not..but this never bodes well,, unless they can use all this attention and come togeather to prove people wrong…i think then we would be the best..but its so wide open still so who knows.
I just watched the “State of the Broncos” at NFL.com:

Sanders cracks me up lol.
not the play book the offense as in jay b marsh stoke i mean the people we added were nice aside from jordan but dont mess with jay or scheff we had all the pieces needed for a super bowl team last year except a healthy 1000 yard back. i mean bringing the playbook from ne isnt bad look at the success theyve had im fine as long as we dont start cheating. i think with the D we have now were playoff material with the draft maybe super bowl
