Colbert Traded to Seattle

September 16th, 2008 - 4:00pm by Gray Caldwell

On Tuesday, the Broncos announced the trading of Keary Colbert to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Colbert signed with the Broncos this offseason, and played in both of the Broncos’ games this season.

He did not record a catch.

The Seahawks receiving corps has been decimated by injuries early this season. Nate Burleson and Ben Obamanu are out for the season. Bobby Engram and Deion Branch have injuries that will most likely hold them out until after Seattle’s bye on Sept. 28, according to The Seattle Times. To top it off, receivers Seneca Wallace and Logan Payne were injured in the Seahawks’ Week 2 contest against the 49ers.

Colbert becomes the second former Bronco to join the Seahawks in the last few days — Samie Parker, who was in Denver during training camp, signed with the team last Wednesday before being released three days later.

Good to have you around but as many broncos fans would say see ya and good luck. In response to everybody who is worrying about the defense and the special teams i would like to point out that nobody is perfect in week 2 and for us to expect perfection from our defense or offense for that matter is a mistake on our part. The important things we can take from week one and two is CONSISTENCY if we keep playing offensively the way we have then we should be atop the leader boards in offensive, however while i agree that cutler has been great and very poised during tuff situations we should all remember that you have to make mistakes to learn from them. The defense is learning this best by realizing that their level of play has to improve to give the team a legitimate shot at the playoffs, superbowl, or whatever the TEAMS GOALS are as a team. I love the broncos and bleed orange in blue here in texas and all i hear about is the cowboys this and cowboys that and broncos suck and probably what you all hear that don’t live in denver. I am going to say that while i love our teams chances and we all support the offense we should show the defense some love as well, it is just we need to see a sense of URGENCY from them. Come next week we should only be looking for improvements from both sides and if we improve each week then the wins will follow and then we can talk about PERFECTION but at week 2 ask yourself do you really expect for our team to be PERFECT??????

Once a Bronco, always a Broncos. I hope Keary has a good future with Seattle and in the NFL.

  4. Cutlerizer says:

    Bring out the orange jerseys!

I just hope that JiM Ryan and Bob Slowik are MAYBE looking at MIKE. Webster bring energy but also inconsistenance. He really disappeared in the SD game. Lets let Niko play NO and leave Webster on ST.
Fill the 53 with a defensive player. Also I thought Boss played a solid game but Winborn has also been solid in camp and Oakland.
Karl Paymah really looked bad. And I will admit that the DL got some pressure but way to little. Did I miss our blitzing? Or maybe very little?
This will be a fun year.

NFL.com is reporting a conditional 5th round pick. I also read somewhere that it could move up to a 4th. I will take it. He was not going to play for us and he will probably start up there right now. It was a good trade for both parties. I think that we got a steal cause it is money off our books. Also he really is not worth a 5th becuase we only got a 7th for foxy and foxy is a much better player. It is interesting what teams will do when they are desparate

  7. Gnarlybroncos says:

Bring up Josh Barrett to the 53. we could use his speed and strength on Special teams

  8. JayCutler4MVP says:

yep bring up barrett and cut lowry.. and sign Trotter??

  9. Cutlerizer says:

And put them all in orange jerseys on Sunday!

  10. dwillwilliams27 says:

package some draft picks together and go out and get a better MLB, or go sign another DL player , We need a little bit more on the defence

  11. 77crush says:

i have to assume djack, who was inactive last week, will replace colbert.

a fifth rounder and possibly upgraded to a fourth? that is a great trade for someone who was unlikely to see the field this year.

keary, good luck in seattle. really. i liked your potential coming out of college and i hope you seize the opportunity with the seahawks.

broncos continue to add draft picks in 09. the youth movement continues!

  12. 77crush says:

once a bronco, always a bronco.

    except for kennison.

  13. JayCutler4MVP says:

gonna package our 1st round pick 5th round pick colbert 7th from atlnata foxy maybe a 3rd/4th and get REY MAULUGA lol….

    MLB Mauluga
    WLB DJ
    SLB Woodyard/Boss

  14. CutlerBmarsh. says:

Is it just me or should we pick up Danny Amendola from the boys and have him replace colbert.

we wont have to pay him much. and hes like a wes welker. PLUS hes going to be playing his heart out to stay on the team.

    Also.

we need to get Josh Barrett off the practice squad and in special teams.

    He ran a 4.35!!!

    plus. we need fast people.

    look at what Sproles did!

  15. BroncosFan973 says:

Josh Barrett is badly needed on special teams. He is incredibly athletic, he has the speed and strength to stop breakaway runs, like the one that Darren Sproles had.

  16. matt203 says:

yeah good trade for both partys. and yes we need to bring josh barrett up from the prac. squad. we could really use him on specail teams. or maybe sign a corner cause paymah looked really bad. jw why was he insead of champ or bly covering chris chambers???

  17. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Other than the Broncos, the Seahawks are perhaps the team I’m most partial to. It’s good that they get a receiver of Colbert’s caliber because he can help them, while it’s difficult to beat out B-Marsh, Eddie Royal, D-Jack and Stokley in Denver. I’m sure this will enable us to bring Josh Barrett up because Paymah’s best case scenario should be on the practice squad. He gives up too many big plays.

  18. Broncfalls says:

I WANT J. WILLIAMS IN THE SECONDARY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE ALL MY BRONCOS BUT PAYMAH GOT SLAPPED AROUND OUT THERE. I HONESTLY THINK WILLIAMS IS THE BETTER PLAYER BY FAR!

    JUST MY THOUGHT

    GO GET EM BOYS!!!

  19. navy_bronco_fan says:

I have to agree about Paymah. He hasn’t looked good all year including the preseason. Teams are going to attack that guy and the Broncos better figure something out there real quick. The guy just can’t cover ANYBODY! Broncos offense is UNREAL! GO BRONCOS!!!

  20. meisner says:

the ST needs Barrett on the field.
Please shanny… Give the kid a chance.
Same with Jack Williams cause there has to be some change.

  21. BroncoFreak08 says:

Paymah has looked like crap, but remember it is only week2. Jack Williams is the future of the CB position for the Broncos. He is going to be really good. Good luck Colbert. Go kick some but in the NorthWest…
