Coach McDaniels on Marshall

June 12th, 2009 - 1:18pm by Gray Caldwell

Head Coach Josh McDaniels addressed the media concerning Brandon Marshall’s absence from today’s first practice of a mandatory mini-camp. Here is a brief look at some of his comments.

On Marshall’s absence…
“That’s a personal decision that Brandon’s made, and we’ll do what the league rules allow us to do for a player that misses a mandatory activity. The rest of that is really internal. I’ve spoken to him and his agent, and that’s the decision that he’s making.”

On if Marshall will be fined…
“We’ll do what we think is the right thing to do.”

On if he knows the reason for Marshall’s absence…
“Sure, and we’re not going to go into detail. I’m not going to talk about that. That’s between the Broncos and Brandon and his agent, and when that’s resolved we’ll look forward to having him on the field.”

On whether he expects Marshall on Saturday or Sunday…
“He’ll be here today. We’re having a meeting later this afternoon, and again it’s something that we’re going to take care of and handle in house. He’ll be here later this afternoon but he was not here this morning.”

On whether Marshall is falling behind…
“Well there’s 40 practices before our first game starting in August, he’s a smart player and I’m sure he’ll be able to learn whatever he needs to learn to be able to play successfully if he’s here at training camp, so I’m not concerned about that.”

Zach Eisendrath will post the normal practice blog soon.

Brandon needs to sack up and play football. I am so sick of these guys thinking well I have had a good year now pay me. He signed a contract now live up to it besides he isn’t the greatest wide rec out there. He had more dropped passes than any other last year. Oh yeah he had a hurt hip last time I checked the hip isn’t located on the arms those are called hands. Sorry just had to vent. BRONCOS FOREVER

  2. I hate sd alot says:

If you don’t want to be apart of the team, then you won’t be.

  3. KMA says:

yeah I gotta agree, as much as I love B-Marsh, he’s gotta show up. this sucks! these guys need to just take a look over the line and see how a Champ or a B-Dawk gets his mind right.
    Show up or be Gone!!

    Really?
Jay, now Brandon? I think the Pro bowl got into the heads of these guys alittle too much. They are not greater than the team. Show up, work hard, come with a good attitude. Is that too much to ask? Not to mention thier poor showing at the Pro Bowl. Come On Man!

I am not against a player asking for more cash or trying to re-negotiate a deal. But can’t they get that done while they support the team?

What a difference on the defense side of the team. Everyone there is happy to be with the team and invited to practice! And we know why.

    Orange Crush!!!!!!

Just got my Marshall jersey for Christmas. Only got to wear it for one game and now this!? I hope I get to wear it more than just this year.

broncos14441, the same thing happened to me with C Portis so I took a magic marker and wrote T Bell over it. He He …..

Right after our QB fiasco, there was Brady Quinn talk, and I was like well, people can just pull a (as you state) whatever to patch over the name, eh….

Fortunately, it worked out, imo much better – and here’s ta some Mile High Off-Season Magic in whatever form it may take, so long as it is not negative!!!! Thanks for the post. (even though I noticed it after it was not ‘new’)

Well, let’s see………….I can’t seem to keep myself outta trouble……….I have a bum hip…………….I’m only gonna make a couple million next season…………..If I so much as sneeze at the wrong time the NFL commish will suspend my butt…………..yeah, I think it’s time to demand a payraise………..HAHA, if these guys only had to live one day in the real world they wouldn’t know what hit ‘em

  9. navy_bronco_fan says:

How about you prove you’re worthy of what you make NOW Brandon?????

  10. LBWilson56 says:

Well i learned my lesson guys…Dont get a players jersey anymore..Too much movement in the NFL..Get your own number and your own last name..Your jersey will last much longer…hehe…

Brandon needs to either grow up or grow a brain. I can understand wanting a pay raise after the past two seasons, but now isn’t the best time to ask for it. With his recent run in with the law, leading the league in dropped passes, and seeing what happened to crybaby Jay, he should be able to see that he should not be doing this right now. Wait until your contract runs out and get a whole new deal. Don’t be an idiot.

  12. monodono says:

I think it’s ok to try to renegotiate but show up for OTA’s an Minicamps. Where’s the faith Brandon?

  13. Cisco24 says:

BMarsh has amazing skill and athletic ability. If it were me, I would state that I want to renegotiate my contract and then get out there and work my ass off. I’m pretty sure that would help the situation better than not showing up.

I wish there were more players out there who were willing to take a paycut ie. Larry Fitzgerald to help make more room on the salery cap for more talented players. When did these guys honestly forget that they have a dream job and if any one of us had the skill they do, we’d be there in a heartbeat. Most of them don’t know what it’s like to work a “real” job. I just wish they could realize how greedy they really are!

  14. broncosmaddenchamp says:

i dont see how you guys arent siding with marshall on this this guy has gave his heart and soul to this team i mean come on he has the potential to be the best WR in the league..he wants a new contract is a good thing cuz that means he want to be on the team hell he can always go somewhere else like what just might happened which will be pretty stupid because how many pro bowlers did we have last year….and we might lose them well we already lost jay but McD is really messin up id hate to see our season next year without him……as for jerseys well in the past 3 years maybe, these are the jerseys i have collected….jake plummer, jay cutler, javon walker, eddie royal, brandon marshall, champ bailey, and john lynch yeah im kinda done buying jersey now B dawkins was gonna be next but i dont think he will last 2 years

You want to know something that I find really funny? Every time I log on to the bronco website to catch up on the news I read a few blog’s to see where everyone else’s minds are at. As far as the up and coming season. There’s a few people out there that seem to have their heads screwed on right, and the rest of you I can’t seem to understand what your talking about. I can’t even tell you how many blog’s I’ve read hating Jay for doing what he felt was best for him. I was very disappointed to see him go because I thought that he was improving every game, but if you look at from his side of table who wants to play for a first time head coach that doesn’t think your good enough to lead his team. You know that if your job was try to fire you and could do the same thing he did you would. And as for Marsh I don’t know to tell you about this guy, but if you really think we’re better off with out him then why be mad let him go. Yes he did drop a few 100 catch-able balls, but he always came back with a catch to make up that one. Now it may have been in the next game but he made up for it. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not trying to defend what he’s doing at all. My grandfather use to say that a man is only as good as his word, and if your word isn’t worth anything then you won’t be worth anything. So if you make a deal you should live up to that deal no matter what. But for me, I never like being around people that really don’t want to be around me. So If he wants to walk, walk. Just give us back our money and roll on. But you decide to stay then be man and live up to what you agreed upon.

  16. Sharpy_2009 says:

Okay I have one thing to say! I love Brandon Marshall! But how come since Josh McDaniels had arrived in Denver I can slowly start seeing team diminishing. We already lost our Pro Bowl QB! Now we are getting ready to lose one of our best WR. Please stay in Denver Brandon.

  17. dogoneo says:

I’m glad that someone else out there can see this new trend to. And It just seemed to happen all of a sudden to. That two of our key players just woke up one day and out of blue decided that they didn’t want to Broncos any more. Hmmmm ya right anyways. Who in their right does that?

  18. Cisco24 says:

As far as contracts go, Urlacher said it best. Don’t sign a long term deal unless you are prepared to stick with it. As far as Brandon, I don’t want to see him go. I really like his skill and his on field attitude. I think he’s great. But if we are going to lose him, I hope we get something else we can build on in return. But damn, I really miss having Shanahan around. Why didn’t we just bump hom up to GM???

  19. flyeaglefly says:

Brandon is another “Jay Cutler” Immature ,a whiner , Not a total team player.Plus he wasn’t that good last year.Cut him loose,The TEAM will be better for it. No Big Deal

  20. dogoneo says:

So he’s a whiner because the new coach wanted to trade him from day one. I bet you would be whining to if your new boss tired to trade you for a guy that he worked with at his previous job.
And, your right every player can be replaced, if you have to replace them. (“No Big Deal” I guess We will have to wait and see, but for me it’s always a big deal when you lose a key player.)
