Clady Withdraws from Pro Bowl

January 15th, 2013 - 2:55pm by Stuart Zaas

Tackle Ryan Clady has withdrawn from the 2013 Pro Bowl due to injury, it was announced on Tuesday.

He will be replaced by Bengals tackle Andrew Whitworth.

Denver could still have five Pro Bowl players this year, however, as wide receiver Demaryius Thomas is next in line for a berth at wideout. Should another receiver withdraw due to injury, Thomas would earn his first career selection. If New England defeats Baltimore, Thomas would also earn his first trip to the league’s All Star game since Wes Welker would be headed to the Super Bowl and would be unable to play in the Pro Bowl.

Denver’s other Pro Bowlers include quarterback Peyton Manning, linebacker Von Miller, cornerback Champ Bailey and defensive end Elvis Dumervil.

Hi All. This is my first comment in this blog. I am a big Ravens fan but from the day I saw PM play I have become a huge fan of him. Invar been following him from that day forward. I should agree Denver was the better team but some bizzare plays and very conservative calls (even as a Ravens fan I was thinking wth Fox was doing) cost them the game. There are lots of claims on PM not being a playoff QB but I think he did make enough plays to put the team ini winning position. It just was a bad day for Broncos. I really think PM and the team will come back stronger next year and hopefully Fox plays some aggressive football. Hard luck on Saturday but I wish nothing but Good Luck for next season

    Congratulations to Adam Gase!

    Go Gase!!

  7. RH709 says:

Some of you may remember that I said the chiefs should try to pick up Alex Smith. I would like to retract that. I think Chip Kelly will go after Smith for his spread offense. It is very similar to what Smith ran in college but Kelly likes to run more out of 10 personnel. Kelly’s offense likes quick timing routes which Smith is very good at.

    Good call RH.

    Whats the scoop with Gase?

  10. RH709 says:

    Gase is Denver’s new OC

  11. strandoftds82 says:

I like it! Great for Adam Gase, and a great big congrats to him!

For anything else, we know Gase won’t be interviewing for HC jobs next year if we make the playoffs. I’m pretty surprised more people aren’t talking about that distraction. Not to mention the fact that losing made McCoy available, and with only one HC spot left, it doesn’t look like anyone would’ve waited if we kept winning.. All year we heard about how this team was like a family, I’m not sure how it wouldn’t be a distraction if one of the family members was looking to bail on the way to Thanksgiving dinner..

Haven’t had the desire to follow NFL after loss. Just found out McCoy is the hc of the bolts. Wow. I thought he would do well in Chicago but wateva. Looks like we are supplying the AFC west with coaches it would seem. I guess everyone is hoping to get some inside knowledge on the current divisional leader two yrs running. Plus we have talented young assistant coaches. I don’t think McCoy is that good but if anything will help him succed its his flexibility . All coaches should have it. Adapt to ur players not try to fit a square block in a round hole. congrats to gase. I think he will learn a lot from Peyton .

I’m a fan of the “little guys” finally getting their shot. It’s nice to see Denver’s coaching assistants and coordinators move up the food chain. Sometimes I feel that they get a little too anxious to become a HC. What I don’t want to see is every year we’re looking for a new coordinator. I don’t expect them to stay in the same position for years, but I’d like to see some continuity. We haven’t had the same coaching staff for longer than one season. I do feel that Fox and Elway will always put together a good coaching staff, but if all we do is become a HC farmer we lose so much of that continuity. If there’s one thing we’ve seen from the past just because you’re a good assistant or coordinator doesn’t mean you’ll make a good HC. Sometimes it takes failure to know your place, but sometimes you just need to look in the mirror and know what you’re truly good out. I’m not saying they can’t succeed or be good, but in a sense, we’re always going to need “someone flipping burgers” or “picking up the garbage” so sometimes it just makes sense to stay in a lower position for a while.

Anyway I’m sure Elway and Fox will do a great job of continuing to build continuity, like with the Gase promotion.

  15. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Indeed Schneider. Hc are big picture guys. Coordinators just need to focus on their phase of the game. Some guys are great managers some are exceptional employees with all the experience but a fish out of water when it comes to Hc (manager). I approve of gase as well. He really has worked his way up . I believe he was we coach before he became QB coach and he did a stellar job in both areas. He has earned his shot and will learn with the training wheels called manning.
How about JE throwing his support behind fox for conservative forth quarter kneel. jE knows darn well as an elite QB who was equally as fantastic in the fourth quarter …. He woulda wanted the chance to put the game away. That’s why u pay em the big bucks.

  16. RH709 says:

JE’s public support of Fox doesn’t mean he didn’t rip Fox when the door was shut. I love both these guys. Fox is an amazing coach but he downfall is his conservatism.

  17. OTbroncos says:

Elway had no choice but to publicly support Fox. He brought Fox in here for stability, given how many coaching changes we had, not to mention Allen and McCoy. There was nothing Fox could do that would’ve gotten him fired IMO, and I agree with that. The rule of thumb for crisis management is to not overreact, and Elway did a nice job of stabilizing the situation, and not make matters worse, by second guessing what had already happened and onderminding Fox. The Gase hire was another good decision, and it would have been overreaching to go out and get a Moore or Whisenhunt IMO.

  18. RH709 says:

Agreed OT. They have to appear to be on the same side. I just hope that behind a door somewhere Elway is explaining to Fox that you have to coach to win not coach not-to-lose. That means, go for it on 4th in positive territory and rely on the guy you pay 20 million a year to move the ball 60-65 yards in 30 seconds with two timeouts.

  19. oldsouthstander says:

Gae promotiion perfect. Minimal change, but still a new outlook on the way the offensive plays are called.
Think out TEs weren’t a major part of our offense? TEs caught 98 passes in 2012. Tammie had 52, Dressen 41, Green 5.

  20. oldsouthstander says:

    Gae = Gase. DDUUUHH!!!

  21. OTbroncos says:

Let’s hope so RH. The only thing that could defend those two kneel downs, is if Peyton just wasn’t feeling up to it given the cold and wind, which of course, no one would ever admit to even if true. I see ZERO defense for running a 190 lbs rookie up the gut over and over again… Smh…..

  22. RH709 says:

I like Green with the ball in his hands. I know he is considered a blocking TE but he seems to do good when he has the ball.

  23. horsepower1 says:

I’d have to agree a conservative coach is effective when you are in the regular season, already eyeing the playoffs. Even if they are number one seed in the playoffs and have a 14 point lead going into the fourth quarter. But not when your season is about to be over or you are tied going into the fourth quarter. That is when you put the ball in the hands of someone who can get you there. I think this is the thing that has eaten at me the most the game was coming down to the wire and we still were waiting for someone to make a play. Instead of having a play drawn up for this situation like a play action with a screen to Hillman for a first down. I quess we can sit back hear and say we should of done this and should have done that. I know are guys worked hard to get there and now realize they will need to take it to another level when in the playoffs….including coaches.
