Clady Third in R.O.Y. Voting

December 30th, 2008 - 1:26pm by Adam Zinser

The has announced that quarterback Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons has won the AP 2008 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

That comes as no surprise to many people, as Ryan has keyed the huge turnaround in Atlanta — taking the 4-12 squad from a year ago and leading them to an 11-5 record and playoff berth in 2008. And Ryan certainly deserves congratulations after his great year.

But more importantly for Broncos Country, Ryan Clady finished third in voting.

50 total votes were cast, with Ryan receiving 44 of them. In distant second place was Tennessee running back Chris Johnson, earning three votes. Then came Clady with two while Bears running back Matt Forte got one.

Many Broncos believe Clady deserves Pro Bowl honors, considering he did not give up a full sack while starting all 16 games, but though he didn’t earn a trip to Hawaii, getting votes for Rookie of the Year shows that his excellent play did not go unnoticed. Clady also won Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Week Honors in Week 14.

Congrats to Ryan!

West Coast, can’t agree with you more….Shanny is getting old and losing his magic. His soft minded coaching philosophy doesn’t work any more for spoiled, paycheck collecting, young generation players. Now, we don’t need to keep Slowik and that’s a big gain for us already.

Mike, please accept any coaching job for next season, so we don’t need to pay you 20 M. We definitely need that money to bring in quality coaching staff/players.

Way to go Clady. I’m a big Clady fan since I’m from the Boise area. I’m also a big Bronco fan and I was so glad to see Denver pick up Clady. He didn’t have to change colors or team names. Boise State Broncos to Denver Broncos. Way to go Ryan, Idaho and Boise is very proud of you!!!!

To the people who wanted Shanny gone, you got what you asked for. Now we’re doomed. This is going to set Cutler back years, look what happened to Alex Smith when the 49ers changed philosophies and playbooks on him, he’s not even going to be a starting QB in the league anymore. Now I’m not going to say that that is going to be Cutler’s situation. But this has the potential to be that bad.
    Why Fire Shanahan?
You guys say 8-8 is “unacceptable” in Denver. Then What is? If breaking .500 is rebuilding, which, we ARE doing, then I’m pretty damn happy. Now we’ve had some terrible showings but Shanahan knew what he was doing, he has his offense in place for the next decade the only exeption being a runningback. He was going to get to the D this year and so on.
I’m just sayin, to most teams rebuilding is 3-13, 4-12, 5-11, look at the Chiefs. Our Rebuilding is breaking even. What do you think is better. Now all we’ve done is light the flame under a HOF coach. He’ll probably go and take some job and turn that team into a great team and then we’ll be his new version of Al Davis and Raiders. Mark MY Words you heard it here first, Denver will be good in the future but Shanahan is going to bite us and once he gets us once… Look at the season opener we had this year in McAfee Stadium in Oakland. Remember how happy you were.
That will be how happy the fans are of his new team.
I love my Broncos I live in So Cal, but this was a mistake, and you’ll know eventually.

Ill miss shanny to …..but if you have the worst melt down in N.F.L. history (it wasent just bad it was historic)better expect some back lash.Pat had to fire his best friend (and to all the married guys his wife’s best friends husband)It wasent done lightly or on a whim or even by the will of the fans! We did give Jeremy Bates a hefty extention that he accepted Even with a hefty offer from Lane Kiffin to go to Ten.(his alma mater )And Bates was calling most of the plays this season. We still have Rick Dennison & Bobby Turner so the O-will be the same or even better. And as much as it pains me to say it Shanny could not get the D-fixed after letting L.coyer go (his Call) and the 2 mill bonus. to Niko and D.Robertson did not help him any! I think the murder of D-will took a bigger chunk out of the d-fences hart then we realize.Point is it wasent just one thing! Its even possible (however slim)our new coach is already here(Bates)Adam Schefter said he thought it would be a young o-cord. to take the helm in Denver. And the one thing Im shure we can all agree on now that Mike is gone Bob Slowik Needs to get his resume ready as well as alot of D-players Its a SAD,SAD day we are losing an icon in Denver, but in the long run it may be for the best only time will tell !And for Mike WE LOVE YOU but don’t stay in the west!

Well this blog was originally intended for Ryan so first off he should have been a probowler no questions asked and Eddy as well or atleast a few of those votes they both had great seasons cant wait 2 see you both next year and as for Shanny…… im still speechless i think we are going to regret this in the long run but to be honest lets get Marty S a super bowl win he is an offensive minded coach but he dam well knows how to play some def now think bout it with the offense that we have and a top 10 def we would be the Patriots of 07 im very sadend to see shanny go but i have faith in my team so lets go get Marty S. and lets rip the Chargers a bran new Effin a-hole

  6. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

Please Bowlen give us Cowher. A great coach can only be replaced by another great coach. I hope Shanny doesn’t come back to haunt us like he has the Raiders.

  7. broncosforlife80 says:

COWHER ISNT GOING TO BE COACHING AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEAD ALREADY THAT IT AINT GOING TO BE COWHER…………..HE WENT AND TALKED WITH THE JETS JUST OUT OF RESPECT FOR THEIR ORGANIZATION………….HE DOSENT WANT TO COACH NOR WILL HE.

THE DUMBEST MOVE WE COULDVE MADE THIS OFF-SEASON FIRING SHANAHAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. ChampBaileyforMVP says:

I want Cowher, but what about Parcells, as he can walk away from Miami after getting them to the playoffs.?

  9. bmarsh111 says:

shannahan has been nothing but an average coach without elway. shannahan won two super bowls, yes. he also won those two super bowls with a great defense in atwater and braxton and mobley, and the leagues best offense in ELWAY (my lord and savior), davis, smith, sharpe, mccaffrey. our team was stacked. this organization needs a new direction. I’m saddened to see shannahan go to another team and it will hurt if he lands in a place like KC or NYJ if we have to play them, but it is what it is and its time to move forward. I’m excited for the new direction the Broncos are taking.

    Broncos for life.

  10. willharm81 says:

shanny turned back into a pumpkin when the clock struck 12, not for the first time or the second. shanny the official defensive pansy 3 strikes and “YOUR OUTTA THERE”. kick rocks you little sleepy eyed bastard, it’s time to bring in bill cowher…….or better yet the crimson chin. shanny one more thing take that beyatch dre bly and winborn with you along will that retard slowik.

  11. jonny7 says:

i get a kick out of every bronco fan wanting Schottenheimer! doesnt everyone remember how bad we all hated him when he coached against us? that would be like bringing al davis in as owner. you just dont do it! Or maybe DAn REEVES? hahaha come on guys! I also heard alot of you say bring in Jermy Bates as coach! I like jermy and i know cutler likes jermy, but i guess you have all forgoten how much we hated seeing the same 10 plays all damn game! after the first 20 plays, that was all JERMY! 4 quick outs to royal for losses in a row, with one pick from cutler! Thats jermy bates play calling! Or god knows how many screens to nobody tatum bell on 3rd and 27! what the hell is that? WE need someone to light a fireunder the ass of the players and make them earn there money! Look at Kurt Warner this year! He said he didnt even think he would play again, and look at his numbers! a coach came in and made leinhart show his true colors, and also made warner know that if he didnt come and play, he wouldnt play! WE NEED THAT ! Last but not least, to anyone that really thinks this will be the end of cutler is nutz! Shanny really didnt have much to do with cutler! Bates did! And to the guy who said cutler is like alex smith? thats moron from utard was never a good player! He reminds me of Rick Mirer! This could be the best thing for cutler, because any new coach will sit cutler down and let him know that he is not superhuman, and it is not ok to make some of the throws he does! And When you have The recieving core we do, BRANDON MARSHALL IS NOT THE ONLY RECIEVER! Last, thanks for the Memories Shanny, and i hope that the next team you go to you are head coach and thats it! because you have proven you can not do everything at once, and i think it was wrong for anyone to think you should! BEst of luck, and GO BRONCOS! DOWN WITH SAN DIEGO! and san diego fans, GET OUT OF HERE

  12. bmarsh111 says:

san diego will release norv and shannahan will be the head coach of san diego in 2009

  13. Just D says:

Listen guys, shanny lost his killer instinct after the two superbowls…he got comfortable of just being a superbowl champ coach and a guy that can find superstar runningbacks in the late rounds..After 04 season..you could see shanny looking desperate to find the next elway or td…he should have realize that that ship has sailed away and its time to move on. I hope things go well for him in the future..he has been a great coach but bowlen gave him the opportunity to make this team better after elway and td left..and he failed..Shanny left a good core of young players here..so for the next coach who comes in..he should take advantage of the weapons he has left for him. Would love to see a defensive minded coach in..but not cowher or marty…marty was the enemy and cowher will command too much money since we still have to pay for shanny contract..We have the offseason to pick a good coach…keep your fingers crossed for someone that will turn this defense around….Would love to c Jimmy J come out of retirement and coach this team..
Lets just have faith in our team…we have a great young team here …we just need guidance and discipline for them
    GO BRONCOS 09

  14. wormyblackburny says:

Now that I sit back and think about it, Shanny goes to the Jets. They are a ground-up project and the owner will give him complete control. The other reason is that the Jets KNOW Shanny’s record vs. Belli-CHEAT and the Pats. The only other possible fit would be Seattle. Holmgren is a Walsh guy and has built his team in a similar fashion as the Broncos. With Julius Jones and Hasselback, I think Shanny might be interested in the job. KC is a complete MESS and probably a bit too much for Shanny to want to clean up.

As I ponder Bowlen’s decision a bit more, you have to believe it is going to be Bates that takes over. Cowher is an east coast guy, so he prolly doesn’t want the job. Marty? maybe. From a financial standpoint, Pat doesn’t have to pay Jeremy a ton of $$$, which is what this move was REALLY about. You put Jeremy in charge, you get a young coach that relates with the players AND you don’t set back Cutler’s progression in the offense. You also get to dump the $20mil/yr contract of Shanny. You let Bates hire a solid staff and bring in a GM. Regardless of WHAT happens, I have faith. It’s not like we just blew up the stadium and sold the team……

  15. Broncosfanatic4 says:

WOW during the season you all cried for blood now you got it and don’t like it. That is what fairweather fans are not the ones that are griping about team play you guys that want something done get it and then don’t like it. WE GOT OUTCOACHED ALL SEASON NOT TO MENTION SHANNAHAN NO LONGER COMMANDS RESPECT FROM THE PLAYERS THEY DON”T BELIEVE IN HIS SCHEME AT ALL. I have been saying this team has no ESPRIT DE CORPS the definition of this wonderful saying means to believe in your people around you and the plan that you have with everything you got, if you have this you will play harder. Plus I don’t think we are changing our offensive scheme I see us bringing in a deffensive head coach and trying to make his assitant the offensive coordinator who will be running a zone block running game with play action passes and west coast routes lots of underneaths that will allow Eddie and Marshall to catch the ball and run with it. Not run as fast as you can down field maybe you will get open. Not good at all, these three receivers run some of the best routes in the game Marshall, Royal and Stokely let them run a short route and get YAC baby when we did this we won games. When we tried to just throw it deep we got beat.

  16. monodono says:

Thats right this is not a video game, leave the pass pass pass to madden 2009. The Broncos need a ball control minded coach not the spead O minded Bates.

  17. broncosfrance says:

i just learned the firing of mike S : this is the most stupid decision that could be made ! Less than a week after a tough loss , all you’ve got to do is take time and not make bad decisions . This team was a SB team in the building ; yes , the D was awfull at time but nothing that can’t be fixed , whith this offense all we needed was a good D , not a shut down D , simply a good one and at times this season , the D was good enough ( The falcons game for example ) all we needed was more consistency , a few addition next year . Mike is a all o famer coach and we get rid of him : simply stupid !! Do you think Craft get rid if BB simply because NE doesn’t make it to the playoffs this year ???And now , what’s next ? A new coach , a new philosophy a new start .Look at Tennessee a few years ago , they were simply awfull and now ? They stuck whith their coach . Believe me , there won’t be more SB in denver soon , prepare for bad future .Happy new year M Bowlen , i’m sick of your décision ! And whatever team Mike will coach for in the future , we just have to pray that won’t be in the AFC west or else we will be in trouble ! Just 2 losing season ( the worst a 6-10 ) in 15 years , it simply speaks for itself !

  18. Lepsis-Fan78 says:

Sports center said the chances of cowher coaching next year is slim to none and the 2010 is still unlikely. And for you people thinkin shanahan will go back to the raiders or hes gunna hate us like he does the raiders ur wrong he got fired from the spot from the raiders and al davis refused to pay him the money left on his contract he wasnt sore with the team for firing him he understands the business u just dont mess with a mans life earnings. hes still great friends with bowlen. now me personally i wouldnt be suprised to see him go to the jets or the lions. and if the bairs decide to fire smith possibly them. now i hate to see him go cause like he said the potential was there and all he needed was an off season some D draft pics and free agents and this team was super bowl bound now not to say we cant be now. this teams so young to change the scheme in the off season really shouldnt hurt most of these guys are still adjusting to this 1.

I hope we get a D minded Head coach and we’ll be fine.

    GO BRONCOS IN 09′!!!!

Good luck to Shanny where ever he goes

  19. hotsizzle says:

This team was a SB team in the making????? What games were you watching this season? 21-52 in a must win game after losing the last 5 of six, We lost to both the Raiders and the Chiefs. Come on. We were bad and have been since 99. Not to mention our players were not in football shape, again! Ten years is enough, lets try something else.

  20. m.c. the great says:

hotsizzle shut up. The cowboys are bad, the saints are bad, the jets are bad. Those are teams that have no direction. but what we have here in denver is a team ready for an upward climb. I dont agree with the firing I think this team is set for the future on offense, with the addition of a stud running back.

But Mike knew the deffense was the problem on this team and hes spent draft picks, chaged systems, changed coordinators, even some times in back to back seasons.

But that side of the ball will be a mess for any one to fix. I say throw every one and the whole scheme out. Go to a 3-4 I dont have any great knowledge of the 3-4 or of deffenses for the most part but a drastic change needs to be made and that could be it. And the argument of “we dont have players for the 3-4″ wont work, because obviously we dont have the players for a 4-3.

I say the only players to keep on D are Moss, D.J., Champ, Josh barrett, our DT’s, crowder, and of course dumerville. Im not saying they all will start but they are pretty much the only ones that have shown some talent talent.

But back to mike. I think just hiring a a capable GM, to get talent on the Deffensive side of the ball, would have been the better move.

Great job Ryan !! Wish you would have made it to the top and got the honors. You were a quiet giant and got the job done, wishing you many more great seasons here in Denver. Have a Happy New Year and enjoy some time off, see ya next season. Go Broncos 2009 !!!!!
