Checking In with Robert Ayers

May 8th, 2012 - 4:25pm by Stuart Zaas

DenverBroncos.com caught up with defensive lineman Robert Ayers after he finished his workout on Tuesday.

Here’s what he had to say about his 2012 offseason thus far:

On his offseason
“I’ve been here for the most part working out. I’ve traveled a couple places, but for the most part I’ve been here.”

On his travels
“I went to a few places – Jamaica, went to New York for a little bit. Nothing major, but went to a few places.”

On getting back to working out in a team setting
“It’s cool. I like being around the team and starting to learn and work as a unit and starting to get on the same page and working hard. That’s the best part about playing football is being around a team and working out together and getting to have that bond and friendship with one another.”

On the Broncos drafting an interior defensive lineman with their first draft pick
“He’s definitely a very good player and he fits our mold – just from what I’ve watched of him. He seems like he has the type of attitude that we look to have on defense and I think he’ll fit right in.”

On whether the Peyton Manning signing excites him as a defensive player
“Oh definitely. When you know you have a quarterback like that who can put up points and always be consistent and be able to keep you off the field, that’s a great feeling as a defensive player.”

I bet Syds doing fine. His injury happened during the preason last year so it was early in the season. He`ll be good to go i think. Lets hope so anyway.

  3. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Yeah, I really liked the spunk in that kid. At the Jets game two years ago, he had a great pick vs. Sanchez.

OT – not sure what the policy is with the rookies not signed, but starting rookie camp.

  4. strandOFTDS says:

Yes, got a friend that lives in Denver, and Im gonna help her out with something she needs to do. She needs a extra vehicle to deliver somethings she needs to take care of. So I`ll be in Denver all day saturday the 19th. I like Denver!

  5. OrangeTsunami says:

Yep, rain all week, finally a little sunshine today. New Yorkers always complain too much about the weather though, makes me laugh.. You should see everyone when we get a snow strom, you’d think the world was ending.. Lmfao!

Well, I ask b/c I happen to be in Denver the same time that the Broncos were holding training camp two years ago, and I made my way over there to watch. Great experience! It was Tebow’s rookie season, so of course there were records crowds, but I still got really close to the players. I may try to do it again this year, schedule permitting, as it would be great to get that close to Peyton Manning! For anyone who hasn’t done it yet, you should definitely check it out! Very cool!

I didn`t see that play against N.E. Florence made a pick 6 huh? I remember when Champ was inches from that pick 6 awhile back against N.E. in the playoffs. Missed it by that much! HaHa!!

  7. strandOFTDS says:

OT I went to Milehigh practice that was free. We filled about 10 thousand that day, not bad for a practice at milehigh.

  8. Royalbroncofan1 says:

That will be Armed Forces Day !! (05/19/12).
No Air Show at the Air Force Academy that weekend but they’ll have something going on for graduation on May 23rd in the Springs !!
Some flyovers with the F-22′s Raptors!

  9. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Yeah it was just a fluke cuz Brady threw the ball low over the middle. Marcel Dareus didn’t even jump. Just hit him and popped up and Florence was back there…took of down the left sideline and scored. Brady just stood there with hands on hips… priceless…lol!!!

  10. OrangeTsunami says:

If my memory serves my correctly, the practices at Dove Valley are free, unless you want the VIP treatment. I haven’t been to Mile High in years, but what’s so cool about the practices at Dove Valley, is you are literally a few feet away from these guys! And after practice, some of them come over to sign autographs.

  11. strandOFTDS says:

Thats funny that you mention that. My friends father is Air Force, great man. Ive done alot of work for him and his wife. So we`ll be celebrating together. HaHa!!

  12. strandOFTDS says:

Yes, they are free, I went last year at Dove Valley day two. It was a blast. Im going this year for sure, no doubt.

  13. OrangeTsunami says:

Not sure if the rooks have to be signed before minicamp in order to participate.. Perhaps someone who knows can chime in? Considering the practices are probably pretty light and no contact, as per the new CBA, maybe they don’t. But if I was a rookie I’d want a little security in case I got injured..

  14. strandOFTDS says:

They`ll fly over my house. I live two off-ramps on I-25 from the Air Force Academy, so right down the street, so to speak. LOL

  15. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Looking at the Bills draft, I’d say they did really well. I’m thinking they will be making a stronger push this in year the AFC east. They picked 3 or 4 players who should contribute right off the bat.

alex posted link yesterday on how Broncos are pre-ranked in top 10 this year. That’s with all Team combined. AFC alone places Broncos at #4 behind Pats, Texans, & Ravens.

  16. OrangeTsunami says:

Nice strand! Sounds like I’m preaching to the choir here.. Lol. Thought I’d share for anyone who hasn’t gone, good times and well worth it!

  17. strandOFTDS says:

I bet ya we will be better than the Texans this year, just a hunch.

  18. strandOFTDS says:

A friend of mine and I already talked about going, its a done deal. He and I went up last year together. My buddy got Deckers autograph.

  19. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Oh you’re right there strand so you’re in North Springs!

  20. strandOFTDS says:

    Just off of Woodman Road

  21. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Sorry OT – haven’t been in quite sometime but my son, daughter and their cousins went a few years ago. They loved seeing TT. Sounds like they went around the same time period you were there.

  22. OrangeTsunami says:

That’s cool, maybe we were there the same day! The time I went was one of those last minute, spur of the moment things, and it was such a great decision! Highly recommend it.

  23. strandOFTDS says:

Such a good time! I can hardly wait to go again. This time Peyton will be there. WOW!!

  24. killerkod says:

Happy Birthday rbf1! Another day closer to the other side of that hill, but not quite there yet! JK haha

OT………seems as though your smack talk always backfires! lol I say keep it up! Caps-Kings Stanley Cup Final! lol

I’d love to be able to take in a practice……….the players are right there……..not far from the spectators. Would be freaking awesome! Would I get kicked out for jeering Moreno? lamo!

  25. OrangeTsunami says:

Btw, I just noticed that the picture at the top of this blog has Ayers talking to what appears to be Vickerson.. Seems like that’s the second time we’ve seen those two hanging out.. Am I reading into that too much?? I think JDR is gonna have these guys lined up all over the place, at least I hope!

  26. strandOFTDS says:

Not even Kod. There will be other fans cheering for Moreno also. with the Offense that Manning runs, Moreno just might have a Killer season. Lets hope anyway. He does have one more year left on his contract, so lets see what he does with Peyton.

  27. alaskanbronco06 says:

Howdy yall!!! Yall ready for the great ride thats going to be happening in Denver this season?? I sure am folks!!!

Whats up Strand? Happy Birthday RBF1!

  28. alaskanbronco06 says:

Moreno according to Fox is going to be the premier 3rd down back. Moreno catching a lot of screens and dump offs this season I think!

  29. strandOFTDS says:

I can see Wolfe at DT the first two downs then have him slide over to DE on 3rd. Wolfe is gonna be awesome just watch.

  30. strandOFTDS says:

Alaska, hows it going dude? Its time for some Broncos in 2012!!

  31. strandOFTDS says:

I bet Moreno can flourish with Peyton.

  32. alaskanbronco06 says:

Its going great Strand!!!! Somethings going to happen in Denver that we havnt seen in a long time. Either a lot of wins airing the ball out or 18 mil wasted on a hurt QB either would be something never seen or not seen in a long time ;) Gotta keep both sides happy lol

  33. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand from what ive heard Wolfe will be at DE downs 1 and 2 then DT on 3rd.

IMO i would go Doom Warren/Bannen Wolfe Ayers on 1st and 2nd then Doom Wolfe Ayers Jackson on 2rd with Miller at OLB all 3.

  34. strandOFTDS says:

I don`t think his neck will be an issue. Plus Peyton rarely gets hit. He will get hit, and thats a given, but I think he`ll do just fine.

  35. Royalbroncofan1 says:

Thanks kod & ab… yeah on the other side of the hill now…lol!

OT – sure is going to be interesting to see how Broncos D looks this year with JDR at the helm!!

I know alot of people are down on Moreno, as he’s not lived up to expectations. I guess being drafted in 1st rd put undo pressure on him since he wasn’t supposed to go that high. Do any of you guys remember if he was rated for 2nd or 3rd rd that year in draft?
I am pulling for him to contribute and think he will be very capable provided he avoids the injury bug. (unfortunately can’t seem to shake that).

  36. strandOFTDS says:

Either way its fine with me, Wolfe has the perfect build to do either. Whatever they do I`m for it.

  37. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand I know I just had to throw it out there to make that group happy. I think Manning is going to be fine. He will be fine enough to at least win us 9 games AT LEAST

  38. strandOFTDS says:

Over a half a century Royal. LOL

  39. killerkod says:

I was just kidding about Moreno………..I would never jeer one of our own. But he’s been hard to cheer for though…….

But hey, I’m all about winning……….and if he can help this team win football games, then that would help erase my disappointment with him thus far. Heck……..if he can turn it on and have a great season, I wouldn’t even mind him sticking around next year either. But he’s gotta earn that on the field first.

  40. strandOFTDS says:

I hear ya AB! I really do want to see Moreno succeed. Its frustrating when he was dancing under the McD regime, Blah! But with Manning Moreno might have a great season, we`ll see. This year is make or break for him as a Bronco.

  41. killerkod says:

nice to see you’ve changed your thinking AB. You were so wrapped up in PM’s neck when he was first signed. lol No one really knows how this injury will play out………so we should at least all let it play out before automatically writing it off. This isn’t Rich Gannon……….lol it’s PEYTON FREAKIN MANNING!

  42. alaskanbronco06 says:

Kod once you hear Stokley and Decker saying what they have said about how hes doing its hard to argue with it. Stokley has always been one of my top 10 favorite players.

I want to see Moreno get one good-great year so we can offer him up for trade and hopefully get something good for him.

  43. strandOFTDS says:

I`m still rooting for Tebow regardless. I can`t stand the Jets at all. To have Tim Tebow go to the Jets is still weird to see. I want to see Timmy succeed. But My Broncos are going all the way in 2012!!!!!!!!!!

  44. alaskanbronco06 says:

It would make sense for the Broncos to take a run at Aubrayo Franklin, if for no other reason than he is listed at 317 pounds. Franklin, who turns 32 in August, remains a free agent. Perhaps the Broncos are waiting until June 1 when Franklin’s status shifts from unrestricted free agent to “street” free agent and therefore would not be subject to the league’s compensatory draft pick formula.

  45. Royalbroncofan1 says:

OT- didn’t realize that was Vick talking to Ayers. I did recognize S David Bruton behind Ayers in photo…lol.

  46. alaskanbronco06 says:

Strand thats how I am as I have stated many times. I will root for Tim to do well NOT the Jets though only him unless they are playing the Pats. Lol

I wouldnt mind grabbing Franklin. Its going to be interesting to see who all makes roster already would be even more so IMO if Franklin was added to the mix.

  47. strandOFTDS says:

    I would wait.

  48. OrangeTsunami says:

kod – you’re not getting a peep outta me on the Rangers… Lol

Happy bday Rbf1! Must have missed that

    What up AB?

Il be back later, gotta get some work done… Damn, just when it was getting good…

  49. alaskanbronco06 says:

I forgot to say this last blog and just remembered. With Jeremy Beal switching to 79 it looks like Marcus Thomas will not be back in Denver.
