Carter Gets the Call

December 19th, 2009 - 1:53pm by Kyle Sonneman

On Saturday, the Broncos moved cornerback Tony Carter from their practice squad to the club’s 53-man active roster. To make room for Carter on the active roster, the team released T Herb Taylor.

A rookie out of Florida State, Carter joined the Broncos as a college free agent on Apr. 27. The 5-foot-9, 175 pound defensive back started all 50 career games he played for the Seminoles — totaling 139 tackles, nine interceptions and 26 passes defensed during his collegiate career.

Carter became the first player in Florida State history to return a blocked extra point and a blocked field goal for scores in the same game when he accomplished the feat as a sophomore against Clemson on Sept. 16, 2006. The Jacksonville, Fla. native earned second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors as a senior.

I really liked him as a rookie free agent pickup now it’s time to see if he’s got some skill….would love to see him this week!

He sounds like a player! Glad to have him aboard, hope he’s a gamer! Go Broncos!

alwys smart to pick up within the organization this late in the season…this kid was a standout at FLorida State….what happened to our other FA cornerback pick, Dominique Johnson,,that kid had lenght…

    Lets go Broncos!!

  5. Orange_Crusher says:

    Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!

We hung in there with the Colts. If it weren’t for a bad pass and missed FG, we were right there with the best. We just have to eliminate the mistakes and play sound, fast, hard football.

If the Broncs want to be contenders, then it all starts by slapping around the Raiders and showing the world that we can rise up and stand above the rest. Finish Strong in the next three games! Starting with the Raiders.

    Broncos 25

    Raiders 8

    FINISH STRONG BRONCOS!!!

idk this can be a smart ordeal but, then we are gonna have 8line man and just a extra Cb i hope Ty Law is gonna be okay for the Eagles becasue this is alittle sudden Tony is a Rookie and we are losing Depth i miss Mcbath and Renaldo Hill hope they both get better i hate injuries Correll Bulkhalter needs to get better also i guess are Trump card Peyton hillis is gonna be used alittle early instead of just the playoffs

  7. Orange_Crusher says:

Payton Hillis is the HUMAN BULLDOZER!!!! Last year he was on Fire!!!! Rolling over anything or anybody in the way!!! One yard to him is like one bite of baby food to a Hungry Bear!!!!!

GIVE THE BALL TO THE HUMAN BULLDOZER!!!!

  8. footballMANIAC says:

Sounds like an excellent special teams player. Hopefully he can do as well playing CB! He’d be the second coming of Champ Bailey!

  9. ORANGE_CRUSH_D says:

Yeah Peyton Is A Beast I Think If He Would Have Stayed Healthy We Would Have Made The Playoffs Last Year We Would Have Ran It In The Redzone Instead Of Throwing It All The Time=No Int From Cutler And Are Defense Would Have Stayed Fresh With The Ball Control I Love Peyton Hillis Thats Why I Dont Understand Why We Didnt Use Him More Last Week On The 3rd&1 & 4th&1 Situation But Thats Mcjosh For Ya Its Like He Dont Like Hillis Or Something Cause He Ran The BAll Good Vs The Chiefs I Just Think We Need To Use Him More And You Never Know This Carter Kid Might Be A Diamond In The Ruff But We’ll Wait To See And Like You Said Give To The HUMAN BULLDOZER

  10. broncofan2639 says:

The Broncos should have corrected their mistakes by now. We’ve already played thirteen games. If we are still making mistakes that is the coaches fault, no discipline. I hope Carter works out ok for us (the team). Use the TE’s more Mcd.

  11. icefire7 says:

Glad to see another ‘Nole as a member of the Broncos. Go Noles and go Broncos.

  12. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

I think Tony Carter, like many of his FSU brethren is a freakish athlete who will serve us well. Welcome to the team Tony and GO BRONCOS!!!

  13. bronco-blaze says:

First of all i would like to apologize for being kinda angry on the live blog during the colts game. I guess i kinda lost it because i thought our boys would play a little better than what they did. IM Extremely glad to be able to post again though and read all of your opinions…

    ANY WAYS,

I wonder why they made this move? Do you guys think it means anything special or just trying to get some practice time for a “investment”?

  14. Crush Arizona says:

What do you all say 11 and 5 and another shot at the Bolts we could do it very easy

  15. Dynamicdave says:

Easy? I see nothing easy about playing the Eagles in Philly? We can win, yes, but Denver has to play hard and come out of the gate hard, not flat as in Indy.

  16. dabroncos27 says:

do i play denvers defense against raiders or arizona defense at detroit…im thinking skins had 8 sacks last week, im hoping doom can get hat trick..i want doom to break record of strtahan…im a big stats guy….GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  17. dcftcollins says:

go broncos all out 60 minutes intensity dont come out flat like ddave says niether defence nor offence play sound mistake free hard smash mouth football

  18. baylinorcrush says:

D DAY, and the Raiders no less. Leave the women and children home. LOL.

A couple thoughts about what I’ve heard here of late since I was gone for the last three days. Shanny in Whashington doesn’t seem like a great move to me, he only performs well with great QB’s, and that he would not have in Washington, I expect a change at QB there if he takes the job. Reunited with Portis, whom he traded, will be interesting. He craves for full control, and while he and Bruce Allen mighty see eye to eye, he never had an overruling owner like Snyder since the Raiders and we all know how that ended up. And for the ones who worry that Shanny will hate us like he hates the Raiders, I don’t know what you’re drinking, but that was stricktly because Al Davis reneged on Shanny’s contract, while Bowlen has nicely paid him 7 million dollars for a year off, get real, he will always like and respect Mr Bowlen, hence do the same with the Broncos, therefore his best move would be to take a job in the NFC.

About Carter being activated, it seems to me that rather than him helping in the backfield, he will contribute on ST in place of Bruton who now has to replace Hill while he is hurt. Reading anything past that doesn’t make any sense, Carter was a good ST player with the Noles.

I will miss Hill, who has had some very good games, but I also am looking forward to Bruton the Brute next to Dawkins, Bruton himself can
lay some major hits, that could be fun to watch.

For all of us who are dying to see Hillis get the rock, safe to say it’s all of us, if Larsen is heathy enough to take on his FB responsibilities, this is definitely the week for us. With Bucky out and Moreno half healthy, we will need someone else to come in at RB, and I believe Hillis is on deck. That’s another real fun prospect about this game.

And DDave is absolutely correct about the game at Philly, we will have to come out of the game hard if we expect to win a game like that. I will go a step further than saying we came out flat against the Colts, WE HAVE COME OUT FLAT AGAINST NEARLY EVERY SINGLE TEAM WE HAVE FACED THIS SEASON, our first halves overall have been nothing short of atrocious offensive wise, and if we are going to have any chance from now on, we can not constantly lay it all out on the D to keep us in games until we wake up offensively near the half or in the second half. It must start today, McD needs to step up to the plate with a much better start up offensive game plan than he has all year, no excuses, he is an offensive mastermind, so I thought, so get the job done right off the start for a change. To me that’s the most important part of the game we must seriously improve in if we want to have any post season aspiration, this and the short yardage game, but I don’t need to bug you with that, if you don’t know how I feel about our short yardage by now, you never will anyway. LOL.

    G-O-O-O-O-O-O-O BRONCO-O-O-S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched the slide show of the memorial of the barrel man in the Denver post article “fantastic send off for Broncos barrel man”. Check it out, real cool way to start this football Sunday.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Rod Smith, some cheerleaders and our mascot were all in attendance.

  21. Atwater4HOF says:

I expect a big day out of Royal this week. Everyone and their mother knows that Marshall went off last week and Oakland is going to shade safeties and double Marshall all day long. This is going to leave Gaffney and Royal in single coverage . Royal has the talent (90+ catches last year) and i think this is the week he goes off.

With the safety situation, I wish we would give Barrett the first chance over Bruton. I think Bruton has alot of talent but Barrett is a very good cover safety and has the game experience. Trusting a rookie this late in the year is a little sketchy in my eyes.

I’d love to see Hillis and Larsen team up for some power running today.

    Score prediction 27-13 Denver wins

  22. monodono says:

ON MY WAY TO THE SOUTH STANDS! LET’S HEAR IT TODAY!

    TIME OF POSSESSION ! ! !

    GO BRONCOS ! ! !

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Thing is with today’s opponent and their injuries to QB and WR’S, cover safety isn’t exactly at a premium, a hard hitting safety against the run is a better move, hence Bruton. Difficult to argue that logic with McD.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

monodono, we had it last week….

  25. baylinorcrush says:

By now I ought to know better, monodono, you should get a new handle, monominded. LOL.

  26. Atwater4HOF says:

Barrett brings the lumber just as well as Bruton. I just prefer the game experience from last year over a rookie at this point in the season. I’ve always preferred Barrett over McBath and Bruton but it seems as though Barrett is in the same situation as Hillis where he performed well last year but can’t get any playing time this year.

Can’t be caught looking ahead this week

  27. baylinorcrush says:

There is no doubt that last year Barrett was the only safety we had worth remembering, we were so bad at safety, the bar was set real low, I liked Barrett a lot back then too, I just wonder if he didn’t look so good partly because the bar was so low. You’re right about Royal and Gaffney having a chance at a big game and that’s for one reason only, Asamogha on Marshall all day. I would also add Stockley and Scheffler to that list.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

Raider day and FTR is not here to shoot the breeze, or unload hell onto the Raiders. LOL. Out getting beers for the game? I’ll be at the sports bar as usual, watching the game with the Bronco buddies. Can’t wait to go 9-5, one better than my 8-8 prediction, I am not even going to contemplate the possibility of losing this one, our season would be over way before the fat lady sings.

  29. TheRoyalBeast says:

I am also glad about this…to see some youth in our secondary and give em a chance to perform, since we lost jack williams. I believe both the people pictured above will have a great day against the raiders…..Marshall will be double teamed and one of the will be Nnamdi, so royal its time to shine. I see tony carter possibly getting an INT to prove he deserves to play…. he is playing for for his future…hope he capitalizes….Assuming he gets any play time with Champ, goodman, Law, and phonzy

  30. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Baylin, HOF

Like barrett since rookie year…he is very fast (40 time: 4:35 combine) and he has great size and yes experience over Bruton. Bruton wasnt exactly drafted early. But im a McBath fan through and through…like him too….see him doing real well and taking over after our Vets are gone.

But Vernon fox will prolly get the start…has waaaaaay more experience…and knowledge of the scheme as well (like barrett and bruton) and he is far more proven

    Thats my opinion

  31. TheRoyalBeast says:

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/josh-barrett?id=1962

    http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/david-bruton?id=79545

They both have skills…Barret just has more…Bruton has the advantage of a clean slate…Barrett hasnt proved himself the past 2 years as a starter but he is a hell of a special team as well as bruton. Bruton is really good on special teams. But a 4.35 from Barrett is still shocking lol

  32. samoanbronco says:

Is this the end of the 09 season or the 08??

  33. CharlieSouthStands says:

Wow – what does this say about Alponso Smith? They obviously have no confidence in him. First they go pick up Law for the nickle and now when Law goes down they promote from the practice squad. Holy cow. While not ready to give up on him, we traded away next year’s 1st for him – Just sayin’

  34. rev79 says:

I am also curious about Alphonso Smith – it’s becoming a better pick every loss that we gave up for him…
