Carrying Over From the Comeback

October 25th, 2012 - 12:28pm by Stuart Zaas

Usually teams talk about the 24-hour rule to enjoy a win. With the Broncos having Week 7 as their bye week, the positive energy from Denver’s historic comeback win at San Diego has had an extra week to stew.

Now, the Broncos hope to take advantage of that and continue the momentum that has been on their side since the offense marched down the field for a touchdown to open the second half against the Chargers.

“We ended it on a high with that last half,” wide receiver Eric Decker said. “You enjoy it, you learn from it. I think you build confidence from it, but again you have to refocus on what the Saints do and making sure that our gameplan is dialed in and everybody knows their job.”

Both sides of the ball worked together to produce 35 consecutive second-half points in the come-from-behind victory. Seeing what the results can be when the Broncos click on all cylinders has the team excited to continue that type of production moving forward.

Safety Jim Leonhard, who came up with the first of six turnovers forced by Denver’s defense against San Diego, said that the gameday result starts with the work on the practice field each week.

“We have had a couple weeks of great practice, good tempo and making plays on the ball,” hesaid. “Hopefully that continues to carry over. Interceptions kind of come in bunch sometimes, and you saw that last week.”

The Broncos defense pitched a shutout in the second half to allow the offense a chance to get back in the game. The unit will look to replicate its success this week against another difficult opponent.

“Build, that’s my mindset, is building on the last game,” defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson said. “It was a good victory. We’re trying to get a streak started ourselves and build on this game.”

Historically, the Broncos are tied for the NFL’s second-best record in games following a bye week at 17-6.

Quarterback Peyton Manning thinks that the extra time to prepare for New Orleans could prove beneficial coming on the heels of the exciting win.

“You should be better coming off the bye,” he said. “So hopefully we have gotten better, whether it’s from a rest standpoint, getting healthy, guys being a little better just from another week of practice, whatever it may be, so that sure is the goal.”
