Cannon Ball

December 3rd, 2010 - 3:59pm by Gabe Hiatt

Lance Ball spent his rookie season bouncing from team to team. Two years later, the 25-year old running back bounces off defenders.

Ball began his NFL odyssey as a college free agent with the Rams in 2008 and moved on to the Colts’ practice squad in the same season. Indianapolis waived him after training camp in 2009, and he spent three weeks on Tennessee’s practice squad before he joined the Broncos practice squad at the end of the season.

The University of Maryland product finally got his shot as a member of Denver’s active roster for the 2010 season opener at Jacksonville, where he made one special-teams tackle.

“I think that’s kind of been the spotlight, the mark of my career so far,” Ball said. “Being up and down on practice squads and inactive, you’ve just got to seize the opportunity to keep you alive in this league and keep you on the team.”

The same story defined the first half of the year for Ball. In Week 2 — before he could tally a regular-season carry — the team decided to put him back on the practice squad.

About two months later, the coaching staff gave Ball another chance. He rejoined the active roster just in time to notch two carries for 9 yards in the Broncos’ 49-29 win against the Chiefs. Since then, he’s been the primary substitute for Knowshon Moreno.

“We made a decision to go with Lance and just kind of see if it gave us anything different,” Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. “I think Lance has just done a nice job with his opportunities.”

Against St. Louis last week, Ball handled four carries for 31 yards. He rumbled 17 yards on his first touch of the game to set up Moreno for a 4-yard touchdown on the very next play.

When Ball’s number gets called, the offense usually advances at least halfway to the first-down marker. He’s averaging 5.9 yards per carry this season.

“The proof is in the pudding,” Stanley Daniels said. “Every time he gets the ball, he always gets positive yards. He almost scored last game, on that zone play to the left. That’s a prime example of someone taking advantage of the opportunity when he gets it, and he deserves it.”

Daniels can relate to Ball’s early career path. The guard has spent a fair share of his own time on practice squads, and he said he formed a bond with Ball when both players were fighting for roster spots in the preseason.

The lineman and running back both made the opening-day active roster thanks in large part to their work together in the first four exhibition games, when Ball ran for 119 yards on 23 carries.

“Obviously, me and Lance have a good connection,” Daniels said. “In the preseason, we had a lot of good combo plays where I’d pull for a power play and he’d bust, or I’d pull to the left and he’d break one. We kind of fed off of each other being in the position that we were in trying to make the team.”

For Daniels, obstacles on the road to an NFL roster spot make it that much sweeter when you arrive.

“It kind of makes you cherish those opportunities,” he said.” You can see in Lance’s play that he cherishes the opportunity.”

BUFF ALUMS SOUND OFF

Amid reports that Jon Embree, the tight ends coach for the Washington Redskins and former CU assistant coach, will take over as the new head coach for the Colorado football team, CU alumni Daniel Graham and Justin Bannan gave the news a thumbs up from the Broncos locker room.

With help from Embree, Graham won the John Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end in his senior year at Colorado.

“I’ve said it before — I give all the credit to Coach Embree for the player that I am today,” Graham said. “He’s going to expect a lot from the players and he’s going to coach hard for the players.”

Bannan said he “couldn’t be happier” about the reported hire.

“Coach Embree recruited me out of high school,” Bannan said. “He was my first coach. I just remember how he recruited me. He was incredible compared to everybody else.”

INJURY REPORT

Four Broncos have been declared out for Sunday. Brian Dawkins (knee), André Goodman (hip), Darcel McBath (quadricep) and Demaryius Thomas (ankle) all did not practice on Friday and won’t make the trip to Kansas City.

For the Chiefs, CB Jackie Bates (knee) is out after missing practice all week. CB Brandon Flowers (hamstring), who is questionable for Sunday, and S Kendrick Lewis (ankle), who is probable, were limited in practice. G Ryan Lilja (foot) and S Jon McGraw (head) both fully participated in practice and are probable for Sunday.

Bummer, McBath is ruled out for Sunday even so McD had hoped he could go, with him, Dawkins and Goodman out, the young backfield will have their hands full, McBath is dangerously near the injury prone category, too bad I like him, specially in ST but it seems his body can’t take the reckless way he plays, kind of like Sanders of the Colts…

Nice to see Ball getting a shot, we need more than Moreno back there and Bucky is now no longer an option, can’t wait to have LenDale back next year though.

  2. baylinorcrush says:

Why does a kicker jump over the football, a kicking drill exercise?

Prater #51? He looks like the only one who did the jersey switch today?

    Kickers are weird, haha.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

One thing I truly appreciate is, after having made fun multiple times here over the constant Brady Quinn pictures shown in these practice reports, I haven’t seen a single one of him in like about a month now. THANK YOU! Nothing like seeing guys who matter and let the clipboard holders fade into anonymity.

  4. Crazyhorserider says:

It is so rare that the Broncos beat KC in December at Arrowhead that those touting a Broncos win can only be dreamers, especially since we have been playing so badly and have yet to win any division game this year.

I have been watching the Texans v Eagles and of course seeing the yards Foster is racking up with a Broncos style running game just emphasises one of the reasons I cannot stand McD.

To me McD is like an Investment Banker who is bad at trading, has far too many toxic assets, and has stripped out all the most valuable assets. He is now hated by all those taxpayers (season ticket holders) who can see how he has wasted all their money on sub-standard assets and his bank still cannot make a profit.

Can’t we ship him off to Goldman Sachs?

And you are right, kickers are a different species to football players. More like soccer players.

  5. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Lance Ball isnt bad…he just seriously needs to work on his Catching. Man he has no hands. Probably needs to work on his blocking as well. Woulda made more sense to promote him a long time ago instead of trading a 4th for maroney but hey….better late than never i guess…that should be McDs motto.

Bay, well said about McBath. He was my favorite pick from last years draft. The man flat out plays. On D and Special teams. But I saw him as the future for the Safety cuz he always makes the tackles and is pretty good in coverage. He is a lil undersized compared to most starting safeties that dont injure easy. But i agree, he is close to becoming another injury prone guy. I still think we need to change strength and conditioning coach.

  6. baylinorcrush says:

Three weeks ago we did win our first division game in the McD regime with a resounding 49-29 win against the same Chiefs, just correcting you before someone jumps all over that, LOL. Gotta give credit when it’s due.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

Actually the one guy I liked a lot for future safety has been stolen by Belichick, grrrr…

  8. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Once upon a time, I felt the same way about barrett. With his measurables while still runing a 4.3 I thought he was gonna be a star. But it just never clicked for him. He didnt have great coverage and safety instincts. He had killer ST instincts but when he was in the backfield he looked just average. I was mad as well when McDaniels cut barrett and of course belichek was there to swoop in. I think McD and bellicheck still got a deal going on…IMO lol

  9. Yovi21 says:

So Maroney? haha I guess that was another one of McD’s genius decisions.

  10. Crazyhorserider says:

Thanks Bay. I need an editor to check on my silly mistakes. What was I thinking

  11. FTR says:

    lol@Crazyhorserider
Bay can not stop! He means well! He is our WiKI!! LOL

  12. sndvl says:

Haha. The patriots. Guys are 9-2 and have like a hundred picks in the draft this year! We have an extra 2nd from the Marshall fiasco.

Better late than never Ball. Better than Maroney too!

Embree is a good fit at CU.

  13. denver0723 says:

I’m gonna play devil’s advocate. I am not supporting McD’s side, but I feel like many of his supporters have failed to list real reasons to keep him. So here is the opposite side of the fire McD debate.

    - McD has spent the last 2 years implementing his system. For 2 years that is all they have studied, learned, practiced, and played with. At times it has looked brilliant. The 6-0 start last year, the KC game this year, and at other times where we have made some good plays. Granted, it has also failed miserably in other games and situations. But we have seen what the system and players are capable of doing when it is done right, and it is spectacular. If we had another season with the players even more comfortable in the system, and more young talent in the line-up, imagine the possibilities. You fire him, and a new coach will wipe out any progress made, and we will start from square one. And what happens when the new coach doesn’t improve us and take us to the Super Bowl in 2 years? Do we call for him to get fired too?

    - If you are ignorant enough to believe Josh won’t learn a thing from what has happened this year, then I don’t know what to say to you. He feels the frustrations all of us do, probably more so. He feels more pressure than anyone. Give him another year and let the game slow down for him. He was a rookie coach last year. He needs to adjust as much as the players do. Give him another year to adapt, and mature. And if after the 3rd year he does not learn, then fire him.

    - We as fans are maybe spoiled? We started at the bottom, and we rose to become a great franchise. We won 2 Super Bowls. It was epic. But after that we walked around like we were better than everyone else. I believe we are. But we haven’t been a legitimate contender since the back-to-back miracles. We made it to the AFC Championship in 06, but even then not a lot of people thought we could go all the way. Except for us of course. Bowlen probably got tired of being a good team, but not being a CONTENDING team. There is a difference. Having a winning record every year is cool. But if you are not a real threat in the playoff race, then what is the point? Bowlen brought in Josh because he wanted to try something new and see if it would alter our usual routine of being good, but not great.

    - “Josh said we weren’t rebuilding, but we are! He lied to us!” Yeah, he said we were going to win and win now. Because he felt confident our team could do that. He talked a lot of game he couldn’t back up, but from his perspective he was probably trying to keep excitement high with the players. Sort of a confidence thing. Like “hey, we are doing it different this year. But we can still win if we all work together to get it right.” I can’t fault him for that.

I am sure there are other points too, but I just wanted to play devil’s advocate for a bit. I am not saying I believe any of these things, but they can create some good discussion. Pick it apart all you like. I am aware of all of the things that support the firing of our HC. I am just trying to see the perspective of the pro-McD side so that I can have a stronger, more balanced, and fair opinion of the situation. None of us know for sure what is happening behind closed doors. But sometimes we do need a pro-McD stance to prevent ourselves from leaning to far to one side, and to prevent us from becoming too stubborn/ignorant to accept someone else’s point of view without cutting it down in a sarcastic “I know my opinion holds more water than yours because I am smarter than you” tone of voice.

AGAIN, I am not criticizing my fellow Bronco fans on this blog, calling people out, or trying to stir things up. I agree with the majority that there is a problem with our HC. I am simply empathizing with fellow fans who may feel like their voices aren’t heard or appreciated.

GO BRONCOS! For better of for worse.

  14. BeastFromEast92 says:

Ball is an upgrade over Maroney, but I still can’t wait till next year, when Lendale White comes back, man I wished he hadn’t got hurt.

Bay….thanks for taking the heat from Hometeam007,I can’t help it but I want McD gone so bad that I would root for us to lose, does that make me not a Broncos fan??what about the last 28 years of my life that I’ve endured Hell with the Superbowl losses, and then watch McD come in and tear us down like he did,and then people have the gall to come on here and take up for him.He destroyed a team that only needed some help on Defense, now we need help everywhere, probably take years to get back to where we were at before he came(8-8).He should have been fired IMMEDIATELY after he told Mr.B about the cheating.I won’t apologize to anyone for what I said about wanting us to lose,if it means McD gets canned,I can live with that!

  15. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I dont think coaches whose futures are questionable should be allowed to trade future picks. They will just screw the next guy over. We suck so bad, I want us to lose the next 5 games so He can get fired and we can get our first top 5 pick in a long time. Kinda wish we had a top 5 THIS draft. Eric Berry woulda been my pick lol (assuming Suh and Bradford were gone)

  16. milehighmagic88 says:

Haha… That’s a classic video sndvl. It’s good to know people have a good sense of humor about this whole situation.

  17. milehighmagic88 says:

BFE, I like your attitude. You shouldn’t have to apologize, your opinion is just as valid as anyone who disagrees with you. I would never call anyone a bad fan even if they disagree with me on the McD situation, so I hate it when people call me a bad fan just because I want him gone. I say don’t be ashamed. Us realists have to stick together since we don’t have the kool aid to keep our spirits up right now.

  18. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    BFE,

Not only do I want us to lose, I will happily play people in my fantasy football against the broncos. Don’t think that makes me/us less of fans, just realist. Not to mention ready for a change, and wats the point of winning out if all it means is u get a crappy middle pick. Ill pass.

If Moaeki is available in your leagues. I suggest u scoop him up cuz lord knows we can’t defend TEs. I know I have, I suggest yall do the same (sleeper right there lol)

  19. 1nOnlyTRB says:

beat me to it. well said 88 lol

  20. milehighmagic88 says:

Lol. We’re on the same page TRB.

I don’t know if this is what Matt Prater was doing in that photo, but When I attended the Training Camp at Invesco, He jumped over the ball, or acted like he kicked it whenever they used the Jugs Machine for Special Teams drills. I’m guessing that they are using the Jugs Machine there in that picture for kickoff’s, but Who knows.

  22. Carsonic says:

88, BFE AND TRB, HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU WANT THE BRONCOS TO LOSE??? YOU ARE THE REAL LOSERS IF YOU WANT THE COACH FIRED!!! YOU ARE THE WORST okay, I’m kidding, I’m kidding! I just thought I’d post that with my tongue in my cheek, before someone posted it for real. ;)

I see your points, I just enjoy watching the team win and play well so much, that I would put up with a weak draft location just to end the season with a string of games that show that the team we have now is going in the right direction. I’ll say it again, I LOVE watching the Broncos win. And there’s a mile high list of lower drafted players who made a great career out of a chip on their shoulder.

Of course, if getting a beast in round one helps us win next year, I’ll LOVE that too!

  23. baylinorcrush says:

Losing to get a better draft pick is just lame in my mind, but losing to get McD out of here, brilliant!

  24. baylinorcrush says:

Last day for score predictions, no picks on game day.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

    Here is a sobering fact:

Since our 6-0 start last year, the only team that has lost more games in the 21 that have followed is Detroit.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Now we don’t have to guess anymore what it’s like to be a Detroit fan….

  27. baylinorcrush says:

This is what McD said when asked about playing Ball ahead of Maroney for whom he gave up a 4th round pick to the Pats in exchange for Maroney and a sixth and Legwold’s take on it:

When asked about that issue Friday, Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said:

“Laurence works extremely hard. He’s preparing every week, ready to go. We made a decision a few weeks ago to go with Lance to see if it gave us anything different. It’s more about what Lance has done. It’s a competitive situation; we’ve tried to make it competitive in practice. He’s just done a nice job with his opportunities in practice — it’s just more of Lance taking advantage of the opportunities than it is Laurence.”

Most of the deals the Broncos have made over the last two years also have involved shipping out draft picks in either the 2010, 2011 or 2012 drafts — picks the Broncos will not have moving forward, including the deal with the Browns that involved sending running back Peyton Hillis, a sixth-round pick in the ’11 draft and a conditional pick in the ’12 draft in exchange for quarterback Brady Quinn.

It’s all part of why, no matter what choices Broncos officials make at the end of the season on the direction of the franchise, there are many in the league who believe the team is still facing a potentially difficult, multiyear rebuilding job.

And this, ladies and gentleman is the real sad part of the McD era, not only he is making us the laughing stock of the league while here but he has succeeded in setting us back for multiple years draft wise. And I remember when the Maroney trade took place and I said baloney, many bloggers said they liked it because it was no big deal to have a 6th instead of a fourth round pick!?!?!?! Let’s not even go to the trading Hillis for B. Quinn and two future draft picks, or trading a first for a second to pick Phonzy…

And he did all this to win NOW, banking on trading our future for winning in the present, how is that looking about right now? And to think some folks here want to give him more time…

He came here telling us he wasn’t going to rebuild, that he could win now, and he will leave us with no other choice than to re-build!!!! How about that for the ultimate irony….

  28. Crazyhorserider says:

I don’t like McD but I love the Broncos and particularly all the fans commenting on here because they all passionately love their Broncos.

I do get the feeling though that the pro- McD faction are younger than the anti-McD faction and in my view the wisdom of those older fans, their experience and knowledge of the game counts for a great deal. It is like learning from your professor at college.

I can understand why all fans hate to think that any true fan would want the team to lose, but for the long term health of the Broncos organisation there are times when you have to sacrifice in the short term in order that long term plans come to fruition.

I think the mistake Mr. Bowlen has made is in bringing in somebody who always said he wanted to run the team his way. That is why I have never liked McD, because his way is not the Bronco way, and it is the Bronco way that I love.

  29. baylinorcrush says:

If that’s not enough incompetence, how about where McD is at now with the QB situation after trading THREE draft picks to draft Tebow, this is what he said yesterday:

Josh McDaniels said Friday that the two other quarterbacks, Tim Tebow and Brady Quinn, remain “competitive” for the backup job.

If McD plays Quinn over Tebow at anytime in the remaining games, I will have no other option but to shoot myself, and you guys will have one less realist to deal with here, haha.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

And Crazyhorserider is up early on a week end, you know just by that he is no young pup, the young ones will get up around 2pm, LOL.

  31. baylinorcrush says:

BTW Crazy, I hear you about the older folks probably being more upset over McD than the younger generation because of having experienced the proud history of our team McD is now making a mockery of, but not always, there are always exceptions to the rule, and in this case I needed to point out that sndvl is a younger man than McD, in around his mid or late twenties I believe? and he has always stood up against McD here, even had a Fire McD campaign going at the end of last year which he toned down because of the heavy onslaught he got for it, but anyhow just had to give the man credit, he is smarter beyond his years in my view. And it’s funny, he and I used to go at it pretty hard, I even stopped having discussions with him, but we somehow reconciled, we are both strong headed, and of different generations, but somehow we gaped it, pretty cool thing this blogosphere…

  32. Orange_Crusher says:

Yep, that sndvls’ got moxie. Tough as nails and smart as a whip… True Blue and Orange to the Bone…

I almost always initially bump heads with the people who end up being friends…

Just the way of my world I guess…..

    FIRE MCD!!!!!!

  33. Carsonic says:

Good points, Crazyhorserider. I guess I would be fine if the rest of the year were run clearly as a warmup to next year, without any real expectation of winning now. But to ask players to go out and do their job, give their all and try to win games, while the coaches/front office are tinkering with the system without that same urge to win, seems like a setup for bad feelings all around.

  34. oldsouthstander says:

In the 40 plus years I’ve been a Bronco fan I don’t think I’ve ever seen such disparity and venom when it comes to the HC and what should be done with him. I’m sure that each and everyone of us is totally unhappy with the current state of the Broncos. Which side of the McD fence is correct only time will tell. Thev one thing I can say is that until now I have NEVER, NEVER haerd any Bronco fan want the Broncos to lose. I understand the depth of your frustration and am deeply saddened that you are so disgusted with the state of things that you wish defeat on the Broncos. McD has an excellent grasp of the Xs and Os of football, but he seems totally unable to make the necessary changes to what he does that can make him and the Broncos a successful team. I’d like to think that these last five games will let him make those adjustments. If he doesn’t, it’s time to clean house. Personally, I can’t see him being anything other than what he’s been so far.

  35. sndvl says:

Bay, OC, thanks guys! I’m actually 32. McD and I could have went to high school together. And to think, he’s an NFL head coach (not all that good, but coach nonetheless). It’s great to see my generation starting to make our mark in business, entertainment and industry! With that said, I have firmly believed and maintained McD is the wrong guy for this position. I understand where he was initially coming from. The Cutler trade was Brilliant. At least that’s my opinion. I feel his only signature win was the OT thriller against NE. His former employer. Soon after the game ended, watching his display of emotions is about the time my opinion started changing. Now I’m not saying it was wrong. Or that he wasn’t entitled. That must have been an awesome feeling of accomplishment. Possibly even marking his arrival as a legit HC.
It was the first clue (to me) about his level of maturity. Remember, he never shook Bellicheks hand! From where I come from, that’s disrespect!
Same scenario with Haley, but that’s a topic for another time.
I guess what I’m trying to say, is that Im not rooting for our Broncos to lose so McD gets his pink slip. Even though it’s going to be a tough stretch, and we will most likely lose at least 3 out of 5. If not all of em. I am simply saying Fire McD because of his body of work…

  36. The Dane says:

It is just so painfull to see what McDaniels has done to this team.
McDaniels remind me of the poison snake in Africa called Puff Adder. The Puff Adders venom can make your body rot slowly and after a month or so there is a big chance you will be dead if you don´t get the real treatment. It is a slowly and painfull process. I got to think of it because oldsouthstander used the word venom which i think McDaniels is to this franchise. I agree with alot of you, fire MCD.

  37. sndvl says:

True Blue and Orange to the Bone….. I absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!

  38. sndvl says:

And since I had NO audience in the off season…. FIRE McD!!!

  39. Orange_Crusher says:

What good does it do to have guys compete against each other when there are opponents to compete with?

We didn’t sign Maroney just to guess weither he was good enough to compete with our practice squad guys??? DID WE? Are we that inept at tallent evaluation as to not know if a guy is good enough to play before we sign them?

Are we that mismanaged that we would divert future draft picks and tons of money to sign BRONCOS to compete with BRONCOS, during a losing season when those resources could have been used on other players that would be helping us WIN NOW!!!!!!????

    Moroney v.s. Ball??

    Quinn v.s. Tebow??

It seems like the Coach is pushing everybody but nobody is pushing him…..

Maybe we need to sign a couple of head coaches to compete with McD???…

We really should have let Nolan, Dennison and McD compete for head coach last year…… Then we would have know who was the best coach to put on the field…

Or, maybe we should pick the two best coaches on the staff now and let them compete against McD for head coach these last five games…. Now there’s an idea straight out of the mans own book…..lol

  40. Crazyhorserider says:

It is unusual for a young head coach to be successful and that is why all the premier teams would normally hire a more mature head coach because he could bring success sooner having cut his teeth coaching lesser teams.

In hiring McD Mr Bowlen in effect demoted us as a team. We have been used to the Broncos being in the top 50% but as soon as you drop below that you get into dangerous territory.

One of the main problems in any relationship is lack of communication, and there has been far too little communication from Mr. Bowlen. In his position you need to be decisive and you have a duty to the fans to communicate your intentions, not play mind games. If you intend to continue supporting the coach you need to give good reasons why, even if it is just that you want to give him the full term you promised him.

As owner Mr. Bowlen has a duty to the fans to look after their team, after all the organisation gets a lot of its revenue from the fans. The other problem I have with Mr. Bowlen is his failure to set parameters for such a young coach. To let him have his head and let him loose on the team without any guidelines means that Mr. Bowlen does not understand the fans and the type of football that brought them success.

At the time he sacked Mike Shanahan he said that we needed to change direction and needed new ideas. We have changed direction and are sinking fast. We have become the laughing stock of our division, conference and the NFL.

Call me nostalgic but when you have been a winner becoming a loser so easily is not an option.

Dear Mr. McDaniels, I know you have done your best but it just is not good enough. If you have got a heart and respect the Broncos fans please pack your bags and go back to where you once belonged.

  41. strandoftds says:

I`ve been a Bronco fan since the mid 70`s. And in all my years rooting for my Bronco`s, this is the toughest time that I can remember. Accept for the 4 SuperBowl losses. But going to the SuperBowl and losing is bitter sweet. At least we got to the big show. To be there is awesome for the team and for the fan. But to lose the season like this week in and week out is simply embarrasing. The 1982 season was bad also but that was a bad year for every team because of the shortened season due to a lockout. We only won 2 games that year if I do remember. I`m looking forward to the season being over to tell ya the truth, So we can start over.

  42. Crazyhorserider says:

The problem with football is the season is so short with only 8 home games to watch. Contrast this with other sports and we are shortchanged.

Without reaching the play-offs it is even worse and if the owners do another lock-out they will make matters worse. Why are so many owners so selfish? I suppose it comes with the territory and they are naturally greedy. It is always the fans who get the short end of the stick.

  43. raidrhadr says:

strandoftds: I understand your position. I went to my first game in ’73. My family has had season tickets since ’65. I have posted this before. In the 60′s and 70′s we were just glad to have pro football around. Without knowledge of success, we were satisfied with that. Since our SB wins and really since the 77 season we have a different outlook on how Denver Bronco football should be presented. Right now our product is not worse than those early teams but it is less tolerable to accept because we have had success. It’s not wrong for us to feel that way. (thanks Dr Phil) So you’re right. It is embarrassing because in the nations eye, we have been viewed and regarded as a successful and classy organization in the last 30+ years. Now we have blemishes. Not much more can be said about that.

  44. strandoftds says:

I doubt theres going to be a lockout. You never know though. I hope I`m right. Also, can you Imagine owning a NFL football team. The responsiblities that go with it. Talk about adding grey to your hair. Look what Mr. Bowlen has to decide on afer the season is finished. The possibility of letting go McD and hiring a new HC and paying the three during 2011. Which is more important, keepng McD on and maybe having another awful season or biting the bullet and move on with another HC in the last 3 years and pay them all. If we get a new HC and we start winning in 2011 that would not be so bad. Pocket change for NFL owners. We`ll see at the end of the season. GO BRONCOS!!

Talking about the short end of the stick:

It’s the same thing with the players and coaches verses the diehard fans, the players and coaches come and go in a team and move on to make their dough with other teams, we diehard fans have only one team we root for our entire life, we don’t have that luxury to move on and start over leaving headaches behind, we have to deal with everything good and bad no matter what all the time and forever, BIG DIFFERENCE.

Like now, we are getting the short end of the stick and while McD will still make his 6 plus mil for the next two years whether he is here or not we will be left with the results of his dismantling of the team for years to come having to absorb every asinine decisions he made that got us to this point and all we will be doing is spend more money watching our team just because we are die hard fans.

And some bloggers say we have no right to say anything about our coaching since we have never been NFL coaches, blah blah blah…. How wrong they are!!! We have more right than anyone to voice our discontent when the franchise is taking on water and is in process of sinking. I will take it one step further and say that it is our duty to stand up and to speak out about it. The fans who think we should gobble it all up because that’s what Bowlen has decided to do so we must all pull together and support what’s going on are dead wrong!!!

No way you will have the sheep mentality ever from this here diehard fan, just to clarify if anyone hadn’t paid attention, LOL.

    Amen Bay. Preach on! lol

I do agree with you Bay. First and foremost I`m sick and tired of losing. Winning cures all things in the football world. A fan can only take so much. especially when you so use to winning. We are not used to this losing all the time. we`re the Denver Bronco`s. For the last 30 years we have been a better than average to a SuperBowl winning team. A few bumps along the way. But this is tragic for the life long Bronco fan. I want my team back that knows how to win. Besides the SuperBowl losses, this is the worst time for the Bronco`s and the DIEHARD FANS. Nothing comes close in many many years for us.

Strand, I hear what you are saying about an owners responsibilities but let’s be real, what fan wouldn’t like to be the multimillionaire owner of the Broncos and make those decisions.

It all comes down to the mistake he made in firing Mike Shanahan after signing a multi-million dollar contract with Shanahan. I don’t know who drafts these contracts but I would sack them and get a better negotiator. I have said it before, McD should have only got a 2 year rolling contract which would have had a large performance related element.

These contractual decisions are not down to the fans, even though they are the ones who foot the bill in the end. No wonder ticket costs are so high.

It is the season ticket holders and long term fans who are the bedrock of the Broncos, and as Bay says, it is our duty as Broncos fans to stand up and protest if our team is not being properly led
