After signing with the Broncos on Thursday morning, wide receiver Andre Caldwell did a conference call with the local media.
He said that while his agent had been in touch with the Broncos since early in the free agency period, his interest peaked once the team inked quarterback Peyton Manning to a deal earlier this week.
“It was a big factor,” Caldwell said about Manning. “He’s a veteran quarterback who knows how to win games. He knows how to put players in positions to be their best. He gets the best out of his receivers. That played a big part of it and that’s a big reason why I came.”
Caldwell knows what Manning is like as a quarterback from having talked to other players who spent time with the Colts.
“I know a couple people who have played with (Manning),” he said. “He’s a work-a-holic. He likes to study film, he likes to go out there and throw and he likes to get better every day. I heard there is nothing easy about it. He is going to work your tail off, and that’s what I’m ready for.”
After spending the first four years of his career in Cincinnati, Caldwell thinks a fresh start in a new city could boost his development.
“I don’t think I reached my full potential when I was in Cincinnati,” he said. “I think I have a long ways to go, and I think it’s going to happen here in Denver. They have great coaches and they have some great players around that will help me improve every day.”
Caldwell also talked about how his older brother, Reche, has helped him through the first part of his NFL career. Reche Caldwell was a wide receiver for Washington (2007), New England (2006) and San Diego (2002-05).
“He helps me tremendously,” Caldwell said. “From high school on, he has been a big influence. He’s helped me get better. Coming into the NFL he told me what to expect and how to approach certain situations. He’s been a big brother and he’s been a mentor for my whole football career.”
After the call, Caldwell announced via Twitter that he will wear No. 17 with the Broncos.
Caldwell, who has returned punts and kickoffs in his career, said that he’s open to doing whatever is asked of him by the Broncos coaching staff.
“I’m all for doing whatever it takes to win a ballgame,” he said. “Return kicks, return punts—whatever they want me to do. I’m very open to it.”

question. if we keep the 5th rounder for brady quinn. then where does the other one come from. also great news about porter.
I am I actually didnt realize i didnt say anything about it.
But I wouldnt mind bringing in Jacobs or Forsett. A little bigger RB. But would love to see a RB drafted. Martin being my #1 choice of course. Turbin Gray Rainey being other choices in later round.
SBBF It comes from the trade with the Rams over Lloyd.
IMO we will draft either DT or ILB with the 25th pick now that CB isnt that big of a need. At DT I like Cox and Worthy but we could probably get Still in the 2nd round. I am leaning more toward Hightower at this point. We should also get RB James if he is available in the 3rd and draft Moore with one of our 5th rounders.
Welcome to the Broncos Mr. Porter
Wasn’t Goody due to make like 4 million this year?
Do we still have to pay him?
I hope not BFE. Hopefully we cut him so we have more money to spend elsewhere.
I have no hard feelings over letting Larsen go. The guy was versitile but he was in no way a big part of our team. Plus with Peyton, how often will we being using a fullback?? Honestly? We do need a FB on the roster but dont really need any particular one.
Great to hear Porter is a Bronco, wished it was a longer contract tho!
Champ,Porter, and Harris should be a great trio!!!
I like getting Hightower at 25. Big presence at LB. Cox is the only DT i like at 25 other than Poe. At 57 I like Martin RB or Reyes or Thompson both DTs.
Do we still have the big FB Sylvester h is a bulldozer!
sndvl won’t like the Larsen move!
I just hope Porter doesnt get suspended.
One expert on NFL.com has us taking Fleener, the TE from Stanford. I really hope he is wrong. We need to use that pick on D. I havnt seen a TE in this years draft that is worth taking in round 1.
thanks alaska
Hightower LB or Cox DT will satisfy me,but DT is a huge concern now that Bunk is gone, but I have a feeling FA isn’t over yet!
Good point, Sylvester is serviceable.. I liked Larsen, but oh well, not a huge loss I guess
I still dont like Poe. I dont care that he dominated the combine. Just look at his stats during his last year in college. Nothing about him on the field would lead me to believe he is worthy of a 1st round pick. I think most of the combine is completely overrated.
I think were going to get at least 2 DTs signed within the next week.
I would love Hightower too! We gotta get Tide her Crimson!
What DT’s are left in FA??
Well Larsen can play backup LB,so I don’t like it that we let him get away,I wonder if McD had anything to do with the Pats signing him?
Anyone have thoughts on why we only gave Porter a one year deal?
Porter is a great pick up!
I know I’m just repeating what has already been said but DT position is my only “real” concern at this point.
We need to get better in a lot of places but DT is a must.
Theres no real big names at DT left but there are still good value players there.
Okoye, Laws, Sims to name three.
OT I think that Porter was only given a 1 year deal because of the questions coming from the Saints from the bounties and all that. Thats the only thing i can think of.
I wouldnt mind seeing us sing Shaun Rogers on a one year deal to fill a whole at DT.
AB, I know who you’re talking about, but every time I read you posting about Okoye I have a flashback to Christian Okoye who Atwater DESTROYED haha
All i know is that we are talking to 3 or 4 DTs according to a source.
Thanks for the stats on Jason Hill, alaskan. I read he ran 40 in 4.32 a few years back, so both he and Caldwell are burners!!
ab,can you answer my 6:41 post?
alaska-What do you think about Abrayou Franklin?
Only a 1 year deal for Porter….hmmm.
rbf1,we need burners now that Royal is gone!
Wasn’t Franklin a big FA last year or the year before?
BFE 4.6 for Goody unless we can get ride of him. I would rather see a attempt to trade him before cutting him. Even if we only get a 7th round pick its better than nothing IMO.
Franklin is another Saints isnt he?
yes. franklin is a saint
Can’t trade Goody, everyone knows we are cutting him and I doubt much market for him at this stage of his career….but you never know!
Both DTs I mentioned(Rogers and Franklin) were Saints last year and were studs at one point in their career. And yes BFE Franklin was a big name FA last year if I remember correctly.
Im cautious about former Saints players. DTs even more so.
Mikew007 We can at least try to trade Goody, If not then we can cut him if theres no market then we can get rid of him. Like i always say a 7th rounder is better than nothing
That is great news strand!
Spencer to the Pats. Grrr is all I’ll say bout that. GRRR….
Glad Porter is a Bronco…great signing. Wonder what Mr. Manning thinks about that!!! Lol
Champ, Porter, Harris, Squid and Cassius…makes Wilhite and Goody expendable. Though I still think we should keep Goody…
Broncos Country Strong 2012!
I like all the FA action. I like Tamme, or Dressen or both. Still would really like McCain.
The news on LB Jameel McClain is that he wants to re-sign with the Ravens. After the Broncos brought back Joe Mays and Wesley Woodyard, McClain saw his chances dwindling and felt far away from everything he’d known in Denver
A recent development says that Dreesen is going to make a decision between the Texans and the Broncos by Friday. I like our chances. Maybe Tamme will join the Orange and Blue as well. Having Peyton Manning throwing to them has to be an enticement. I would rather bring these two guys in than spend another draft pick on a Tight End too.
The last report about CB William Gay, was that he was going to decide between the Cardinals, Broncos and Titans after visiting all three teams. Speculation is that he would have a better chance to start in Denver, but is more familiar the the Cardinal’s philosophy.
Center Jeff Saturday isn’t scheduled to visit Dove Valley until Friday, even though he may already be hanging out with another former teammate Brandon Stokely nearby. Jeff has already made stops in Tennessee and Green Bay, so we will know tomorrow whether the Broncos allow him to leave the premises.

McCain would be better than Mays
The Mays signing is a bit of a head scratcher, but maybe the coaching staff sees something that we don’t
tnalen I very much agree! I am NOT a fan of Mays.
OT i hope so. I hope he stuns me and does great this year or something.
You think we need Gay? How many CB’s are we gonna carry?
Gay is more of a nickle corner.
Lets hope so.. I’m sure JDR had a look at him and agreed so, we’ll see.. He’s only 26, so maybe they see some potential upside?
I would prefer Webb to Gay. Having four solid CBs would be good. In case of injury or suspension plus it could help keep them rested.
My post earlier were all from the article that link leads to.
