Broncos Win in Overtime

October 23rd, 2011 - 2:37pm by Max Henson

After missing two field goals earlier in the game, Matt Prater stepped up and drilled a 52-yard try in overtime to give the Broncos a 18-15 victory in overtime over the Dolphins.

Linebacker D.J. Williams strip-sacked Matt Moore and recovered the fumble setting up the Broncos in prime position midway through the overtime session. After three consecutive runs from Lance Ball, Prater trotted on to seal the win.

Tim Tebow once again engineered a fourth-quarter comeback, throwing two touchdowns in the closing minutes and running in a pivotal 2-point try himself to send the game to overtime tied at 15.

The Broncos improve to 2-4 on the year after securing their first road win of the 2011 season.

A win is a win and we’ll take it anyway we can get it. If that takes scratching, clawing and fighting for it all the way thru the end, then so be it.
Nobody said it would be pretty and delivered with a bouquet a flowers from FTD! This is football, not ballet dancing. Agree it was down right ugly for most of the game… with the conservative play calling, but who could blame them in only the kids 4th NFL start.
Yes, alot of work is going to be required to make strides, but they know what they need to do to improve.
Prevent defense it was and prevent defense we took advantage of so take what’s presented to you, and move the ball…. period.

Defense told TT they’d get him the ball at end of the game, and not only did DJ come through, ST also kicked into high gear with the onside kick and recovery.
A few game balls go out to some clutch plays by several players!!
    Definite TEAM win yesterday!

Sometimes it just comes down to who wants it more.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!

I knew the blogs would be drenched in hysterics following this game. Haha.

It was definitely a team win. Major props to the defense, special teams and TT. I’d like to address one thing specifically: Passion.

Tim Tebow doesn’t throw properly most of the time. He doesn’t have the best reads. He holds on to the ball longer than he should. But he brings a passion to the field that acts like an infectious disease that the entire team contracts. ENTIRE team – offense, defense, special teams. If you watch your team play every week with your heart moreso than your brain like I do, it’s crystal clear to you; the Denver Broncos play hard when Tim Tebow is under center.

I always try to see things from every angle involved. In this case, one side says our team played horrible for the first three quarters. But the other side of it is that this game was in fact the first time that this particular offensive unit had played together in a non-practice situation. And TT starting is not the only difference; D. Thomas and E. Royal were back after injuries, and if I’m not mistaken, we had a new fullback this week as well. My point is that I think there’s truth in both sides of the argument – if you want to call it that.

You could say a lot of things went our way in this game. For example, the Miami player that dropped the onside kick recovery. And I’ll give you that. However, since our team plays on an entirely different level with TT at the helm, the special teams players that were on the field for that play were playing their hearts out and were able to pounce on the ball as soon as it was loose. Call this a stretch, call it wishful thinking, if you will – I just see a boosted effort by this team on all fronts when 15 takes the field, so that’s what I’m attributing this TEAM win to – its newfound leader.

I have a lot of respect for bay…he seems to be the big cheese ’round these parts, and for good reason. I for one, however, hope he’s dead wrong about TT not being a Bronco at some point. I want this kid to lead my team and I would hate to see him play anywhere else. I have to believe his passing mechanics will get better. I don’t know why they wouldn’t because Tim works as hard as he can on everything that he can. I also think it will take awhile for the coaches to figure out how to call plays that work best for him. The thing is, though, right now they’re probably just seeing if TT will even work out, and that will probably take the rest of the season for them to decide.

Ok, that was the most serious post I’ve had…it took a LOT of discipline to not crack any jokes that entire time. I must have Tim Tebow-like work ethic!

Just read your post from yesterday evening bay…. good point about the absence of Brandon Lloyd.
I feel for you at the sports bar and probably getting heckled by some of those Bronco haters! lol.

  8. stevecan2 says:

same here.thought maybe they blocked my phone also.

  9. whackmac says:

Carnage, who is out of touch with reality here? TT was follwing orders from his coach for 55 minutes. When he began to change plays, he made passes and runs that any hall of fame quarterback would be proud of. The passes to Fell and Thomas were the toughest passes a quaterback to make and he threaded the needle. He did throw the ball away a few times in the first three quarters. No interceptions!! Did you miss that also?

  10. baylinorcrush says:

LOL, I don’t care so much about the others, it’s just me I could not hide from, that was the real problem, had to watch the first 55 minutes of this hell on Earth. Thank god for the finish and in the end that’s all that matters, but what a painful voyage that was, great destination but I never ever want to take a ride like that again to get there.

  11. seweatherman1 says:

I have got some things to say here, and there are those of you that probably are not going to like what I have to say. Guess what? I really don’t care what you like or dislike, but this is something that needs to be said. There are those of you that are acting just like 2 year olds. Give us a break people. This was a win. Not a pretty win, but a win none the less. Who got the win for us? Sorry to say this, but the TEAM got the win for us.

Now to the bashers. Your comments on here are going on deaf ears folks. This is a kid that has started only 4 games in his NFL career, and this was his 1st start this year. Prior to this, he has played only one half and maybe three other plays scattered one play at a time in a game. We just came off of a bye week. To my understanding, there is no practice for 4 days during the bye week. That is not saying that TT did not practice, but organized practice with other team members didn’t happen during the bye week. That means that he had one week to prepare with this team before his official first start this year.

For once I can honestly say that the announcers of the game (on CBS) gave props to TT when he deserved it, and they tor him apart when he deserved it too. They also made mention several time of the very conservative play calling. Sooner or later, McCoy and Fox will learn that you can not be conservative with TT. He is not a conservative player. He was walking around those first three quarters like he was lost, and looked it too for that matter.

For you bashers, if you really need to know this, TT is his worst critic. If you can’t believe it, just listen to his post game interview and you will get the message loud and clear. He fully admits that he has a lot of work to do, and that this was a TEAM win. He can’t make that any plainer.

Now I am going to give props to someone on this team that deserves it this week. That being Orton. I actually observed his sitting on the bench beside TT talking. One can only assume (and yes I know what that means) that he was giving him advice on different plays or whatever. Then after the second touchdown, he was at the sidelines telling TT about running the 2 pt. conversion and doing the audible if needed.

By the way, for those of you that don’t know this, TT was informed prior to this game that his starting the game would be on a week to week basis, depending on his performance during each game. Now, who told him this was not disclosed, but he was told this. So that in itself was adding pressure to the kid that he didn’t really need on this start anyway. Personally, I take this information, along with the ridiculously conservative play calling for the 55 minutes of the game and come up with an entirely different conclusion than all of you.

Somebody figured that being behind 0-15 there was no chance of winning this game so they loosened up the play book. What happened? Something just short of a miracle…wait…something that has never been done before (according to CBS announcers). Denver actually came back and stunned everybody, including Fox and Elway, and won this game. Imagine that!!!

  12. baylinorcrush says:

    Coop got banned, haha.

  13. seweatherman1 says:

One last thing, bay is absolutely correct about TT. Don’t look for him to stay in a Bronco uniform. I don’t know if many folks caught who Urban Myer was hanging with during the game, but it was Don Shula and standing beside Myer the entire game was the ‘fins owner. I lay odds that they were not discussing the weather!

  14. savinghyrule says:

Nice post weatherman. You’re making my day clear and sunny and 70!

  15. baylinorcrush says:

se, too bad the Coop blog disappeared since I just explained on there that it has happened, in Elway’s rookie year Elway entered the Colts game 0-19 in the fourth and won it 21-19, so what do they know, stupid announcers, I guess that’s where the Gator/Tebow fan of last night got his info, gotta check it out for yourself, don’t believe what the media feeds you.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

    Coop back on!

  17. baylinorcrush says:

    Even weatherman’s addendum? LOL.

  18. seweatherman1 says:

Thanks bay. Once again just repeating what I hear without checking first. Thanks for correcting me on it. At least we know he sits with good company on the comeback record.

  19. seweatherman1 says:

    new blog

  20. savinghyrule says:

Well, I do still hope TT stays a Bronco, but since I am a Bronco fan first and foremost, my loyalty to the team won’t change, but I’ll still root for Tim wherever he is.

  21. CarnageBronc says:

the playbook didn’t magically “open up” at the end of teh game…it was the same plays, being run by the same offense….watch the game…for teh first time all game Miami started playing prevent…everyone was bailing. Safeties were three deep and the corners and backers were dropping. Were we the beneficiaries of that…darn tootin…but when we “attempted” to run the same things early in the game Tebow flat out missed it. Decker streaking deep alone…missed it….Tight End in the flat alone…SUPER MISSED IT….the play calls were not the problem…look at the game in totality…and with some objective eyes…and from a football perspective…Time will tell, but the SAME THINGS you guys dogged Orton about…i.e. sitting on the end of the bench…no fire no passion….was what was happening in this game…People kept talking about Tebow’s “Leadership” but it was Bailey and Orton (like him or not) that got in the kid’s ear and helped him near the end. We also benefitted from Miami being the only people in the room that didn’t know the sneak was coming. Me and everyone at me house watching the game called it. Notice when Miami went back to playing their regular agressive defense in the OT, we stalled again. Luckily DJ got us the ball where we did. Objective. That’s all. We won the game. True. When we won the Bengal game, people STILL dogged Orton. Saying it wasn’t enough. Gave the credit to the defense that game actually. I remember. I just say, be fair and honest. I do not think the guy has what it takes to be a productive NFL QB, will we win some games…heck ya. Will we make the playoffs…MAYBE, Super Bowl, negative. At this point. Just off of what I have seen from the kid. TWO YEARS (not his rookie year as people keep saying) into the system.

  22. whackmac says:

I watch the Denver games VERY closely. I see a quarterback who is one of the best in the business when he plays his own style and considering his DOUBLE rookie status (considering his unfortunate position with this team).

These are elements which Tebow and the fans cannot control. The last five minutes of the Denver game prove that wherever Tebow plays, he will probably rise to the top. The changes required for this to ocurr in Denver will be tough. If these changes are made, Tebow will succeed here. The kid has Greatness inside.

  23. whackmac says:

Also! technical analysis, breakdown of history, numbers, and stats sometimes merely confuse and obscure the truth. The answer to Tebow is obvious. All one needs to do is watch him play.

  24. alexanserg says:

Man so close yet so far on the score prediction.

It’s a little shocking to me all this drama going off on the boards. I mean we won. Nothing else matters, and everything else will be answered by time.

What’s the point? We won, but bloggers are dragging out more drama than I have seen after our worst losses.

  25. buck484 says:

I guess I wasn’t close enough last week so I’ll try Detroit 31 Denver 17. I can.t see Tebow improving enough in one week to pull this one out. Hope Im wrong and the score is reversed. Go Broncos and Champ for President
