After missing two field goals earlier in the game, Matt Prater stepped up and drilled a 52-yard try in overtime to give the Broncos a 18-15 victory in overtime over the Dolphins.
Linebacker D.J. Williams strip-sacked Matt Moore and recovered the fumble setting up the Broncos in prime position midway through the overtime session. After three consecutive runs from Lance Ball, Prater trotted on to seal the win.
Tim Tebow once again engineered a fourth-quarter comeback, throwing two touchdowns in the closing minutes and running in a pivotal 2-point try himself to send the game to overtime tied at 15.
The Broncos improve to 2-4 on the year after securing their first road win of the 2011 season.

@Randy I asked the same thing word from Atwater is Allen wanted a better tackler?
Wow that was a nightmare game, luckily we awoke just in time. As for Tebow and the offense, I think we should really look into using the spread offense more if not most of the time. Spread everything and Let Tim run offense from that.
Thank you DJ Williams for bringing the wood ALL DAY!!! I know you still got it in you man.
Yea I’ll hunt down the link…
give me one second
Wasn’t it like a week ago when everyone was saying they wouldn’t mind to see DJ traded lol? Guess we are happy to have him now?
http://blogs.denverpost.com/broncos/2011/10/23/broncos-shake-up-secondary/10267/
“Carter will start alongside Brian Dawkins as the Broncos’ safeties. It’s clear defensive tackle Dennis Allen wants better tackling from his back end. Vaughn had started the first five games at left cornerback, but Champ Bailey will stay outside at left cornerback while Wilhite will take the nickel position.”
So in my opinion it was a situational start. Dolphins don’t throw the ball well so having a better tackling safety over a ball hawking one seemed to be the appropriate move
To be fair Randy he was a huge reason why we were down by 15 in the first place. Positives and negatives from him no doubt.
Running the ball out of the spread is tough. I’d hate to see us give up on our run game that has come along well to this point in the season.
McBath could never stay healthy. A lot of potential that never surfaced because of it.
To an extent it is, but you still can run out of it, besides alot more open space to work with, he wouldnt half to be so accurate either.
it was only his 2nd year he had bad forearm issues otherwise he was doing ok.
True, that is a debate on molding the offense to fit Tebow or molding Tebow to fit the offense.
He had been on the injury report essentially every game since we drafted him. It just came down to him vs Bruton. Bruton just gives more in the special teams department and durability wise.
I was a little surprised when McBath was initially cut but obviously in drafting 2 safeties, someone had to be the odd man out.
Broncos win; KC beats Oak; Bolts lose:::::: SO FAR SO GOOD
I’m telling you, by week 9 all 4 AFC West teams will be 4-4.
Up next, KC must beat the Chargers and we have to beat the Lions — tall order on both fronts, but that’s been my prediction so I’ll stick with it.
It would give the defenses more to think about and they wouldnt be able to blitz as much also, he cleary looked more comfortable on the few plays that they did use their version of the spread
I’m just stuck on it I really liked him I feel like a guy who cant get over a breakup
So it seems like we are a little mislead on the run to pass distribution from the game. Let me break a little math down for everyone.
39 rush attempts total from the game
-8 tebow rushes (which were mostly scrambles from pass plays)
That results in 31 running plays called
27 pass attempts (when a ball was actually thrown)
+ the 8 tebow scrambles
+ the 7 sacks
That results in 42 pass plays called.
Tebow can’t take 7 sacks in a game. But all in all it wasn’t like Mccoy didn’t give Tebow pass options throughout the game as many people seem to believe.
If Miami got 8 sacks against us, How many is Detroit going to get?
I’m late… Tebow didn’t throw well at all until late. He at least admitted he needs to get better. His chemistry with the receivers, and Royal and Thomas being rusty probably came into play some too. I watched highlights, one throw for sure he should have made was to Decker, and I think he had one possible almost INT, I can’t speak on the rest seeing as I didn’t watch the game, but looking at the recap…he has got to improve. I think the defense (surprisingly) and luck won that game more than Tebow did. If Prater doesn’t miss 2 field goals (what’s up with that?) then the game may have been different. These are none-the-less growing pains of what is essentially a rookie QB trying to start in the NFL. As Atwater stated, will he make the same mistakes late in the season? If he shows significant improvement, I think EFX will take a shot at building the offense (I don’t get why you say team when he’s the QB) around him instead of drafting a QB. It is easy to say man, wouldn’t it be nice if we got Harbaugh and we drafted Luck when you’re losing. I for one didn’t agree with hiring a coach who had the worst record and .500 record, but I digress. We won our second game on the year, if the team can win a few more at least, with Tebow playing well, then maybe we won’t dwell in the cellar for too long.
“But Tebow’s uneven performance against Miami certainly raised more questions than answers.”
Pretty much sums that article up.
One thing I can’t let go of. 7 sacks? Even the “wooden chief” didn’t take that many….
Well, let’s get 401 in Denver. Orange Jerseys one more time until 2012!
I felt the same way about Josh Barrett BroncosLAX
One of my favorite Broncos in recent years
It was frustrating cause obviously Tebow was holding the ball way to long.
My thing with the spread offenses is that they are typically 5-7 step drops. It puts a huge strain on our offensive line to pass protect an extended period of time. The routes take longer to develop. I don’t know, it just seems to be a college thing which is why you don’t see NFL teams doing it. It’d be good to google “why spread offenses don’t work in the NFL” there are some valid points.
Big Ben takes a lot of sacks too. It comes with the territory in guys like Tebow and Big Ben who break tackles to extend plays. It’s definitely frustrating to watch but like he did on that 22 yard run, sometimes not throwing the ball away can pay off.
I still think he needs to learn to throw it away more but I just don’t think that plays into his style persay
Haha I loved that guy damn belicheck… I also Couldnt let Hamza Abdullah go it seemed like he was always stepping up making plays
That roster in Carolina was horrid. Injuries and stuff really hurt them as well. Fox has always been held in high regard around the league for his coaching ability. He was just in a sinking ship last year in Carolina. I liked the hire because of his focus on running the ball. Look at what Houston did today on the ground. That makes everything so much easier on not only the QB, but on our defense being well rested.
I wish we could have Dennison back running our Oline
Agreed, Abdullah was another guy I really liked. Great size/speed combo
maybe we have a diamond in the rough with McBean, he has been very solid so far , impressed.
Hopefully the “stocking” thing doesnt set him back.
In reality our Dline has played very well. Ayers is improved. McBean like you said has played well in his situational apperances. Bunkley is a big load in the middle. Thomas looked good last week, I didn’t really pay attention to him as much this week. Too bad Dumervil is having difficulties staying healthy. Pieces are falling into place on the Dline.
I have beenstalked lol i didnt know I could call the police for that. and yes Abdullah was great IMO i dont know why they let him go
I didn’t know people got arrested for stalking.
Shouldn’t 90% of Facebook users be arrested then?
I’m just throwing out a hypothetical but if it proves that Tebow is not the answer and say St. Louis gets the #1 pick… Do you think we should trade for that pick? Or try trading for Bradford?
IDK sndvl that would put all the Tebow Fanatics behind bars who would want that lol?
You would think so sndvl lol
They would trade that pick and get a wonderful package of picks. Something even more loaded than the Julio Jones package this year
We could , but how would we rebuild then? thru free agency?
I think Luck alone makes this a 8 – 8 to 10 – 6 team if he is as good as advertised… This is only assuming Tebow doesnt progress
Tebow finished with a passer rating of 91.7 (which for a guy on the road in his first start of the year is pretty good).. Sure he missed fired on a few, but he had some drops and finished 9 of 13 when it counted. His passer rating put Tebow at number 8 overrall in the league today (8 out of 24 starters). So a guy in his first start of the year on the road finished number 8 for the day in passing rating and got the win. I think that is good. Could you imagine his numbers with B. Lloyd?? His completion percentage of 48% needs work, but did anyone here expect flawless football out of a youngster? It’s crazy did hear people rag on a guy that finished 8th overrall for the day in passer rating.. They you hear the media gush over Christian Ponder stats today.. The dude was lame.. Here is Wonder Boy’s stats today: Ponder 13 of 32 (40%) 219 yards 2 td’s, 2 picks PASSER RATING OF 59.2… So the media talks up Ponder today, while slamming Tebow. Some questioning whether or not he even deserves to start next week. Right now Ponder is the toast of the town (59.2 passer rating & a loss), while Tebow stinks again (91.7 passer rating and a win). I see Tebow as a winner. He just needs for his receivers to break their routes and help him out. Mix in some screens (Come on McCoy) and he’ll increase his completion percentage and that would put him in the 100 plus rating catagory and among the top 5 overrall. 15 tds in 4 & 1/2 games is amazing. Also a 17 point comeback win, and a 15 point comeback win. Hey Orton lovers how many comeback wins did he have? Oh, but he gives you the best chance to win. Yeah right… I knew once they dumped B. Lloyd for a cup of decaf coffee the haters would blast tebow and not notice his wideouts lame play. Does tebow have things that he needs to work on? Absolutely, but what 4 game starter wouldn’t? He is progressing well. Nolan had his defense fired up to play us (they felt disrespected by all the gator garbage), he blitzed from all angles… And guess what? We won. How many road wins have we had the last few years? Football is back in D town!!! I also remember another young QB back in the day that had a 48% completion percentage and a knack for the comeback wins. Mr. Elway…. Are you starting to believe yet???
@Orton the TD Stat is skewed he scored 4 or 5 prior to starting last year…
Hey fellas, long time fan, first week posting. I’ll take the win, but Tebow got bailed out and I’m sure he knows it, and I think he will improve
I never once said that Tebow was the only player in the game. In fact, I’m pretty sure I gave credit, where it was due, to Williams, McGahee, and Dawk at least. Other guys made some good plays. Thomas sucked. Prater sucked. Royal sucked. Tebow really had NOBODY to throw to and Fox and the play calling sucked the most of all. Without Tebow scrambling the way he did and rallying the team for the end of the 4th quarter, what you had was a TEAM that was 15 down in the 4th quarter. What you got with Tebow, ugly or not, was a WIN. Say what you want. When’s the last time we came back from 15 down in the 4th to win the game? Never! Tebow had 2 TD’s in one quarter and ran the 2 point conversion. Fox and McCoy held him back for most of the game and he had NO receivers just like I said the other day when they traded away Loyd. Who’s he going to throw to? Nobody. Fox is the WORST coach in the league. Fortunately…even 15 down in the 4th, even with multiple missed kicks, bad throws, missed blocks, dropped passes, fumbles, and horrible coaching, Tebow still comes up with the win in Miami. Call it any way you want to. Those are the FACTS. Btw, do I need to post my picture of me playing, at 8 years old, in my #8 Broncos jersey. I am far from a NEW Broncos fan. I was a fan LONG before Tebow even played football. Suck it if you don’t like it.
I don’t know how Bay gathered that Tebow is not in our future from today’s isolated game, but he’s often right.
Kyle Boller’s been in the league for what 4 years, man he is horrid, if for some reason Palmer cant play in a couple weeks, I like our chances against Oakland
Thank you Samarai. WORST coach in the NFL. There is NO other way to look at it. His record speaks loud and clear.
Fox did something Shanahan could never do tho, maybe he was protecting his QB a little to much tho….he seemed upbeat about TT in the press conference after the game
Clady, I haven’t seen it yet but one thing comes to mind. Too little, too late. I’d love nothing more than to see Fox gone. He’s horrible.
Orton had 2 come from behind victories. Against NE and TEN. But who’s counting? When he gets intk the 20′s then it’s worth noting.
Today. Credit the ST and DJ Williams. And Fells for laying out and making a Lloydesque catch. Sure Tebow made some plays. He also made plenty of mistakes.
We should have beat this team handily.
Hahaha, LAX, I just remembered that my son was wearing his Gator shirt tonight, from the National Championship game, with the score of Florida and Oklahoma on the back after they gave Bradford the Heisman lol.
Fox is def in tough spot, came into a crazy situation, I think all in all he has done atleast an average job, especially with the talent he inherited. I do believe he basically cost us the Tenn game which if we 1 that game we would be a .500 team
Well… It was rough – yet beautiful. I too have a headache from overexertion from my armchair.
I still care a great deal more about the entertainment (onside kick, long diving passes, long runs, a QB who puts LB’s on backside and 52 yard kicks) of the game than the win. Nothing is more uninteresting than 3 and out. Winning is a piece of the entertainment puzzle!
I guessed very wrong on the Denver offensive score but I have confidence that the reasons I thought the DEN offense would have a break-out game remain intact. I would much rather be wrong on my guesses than to have the team remain Orton-esk. (Eeyored to death)
I know I underestimated the MIA defense though warned several times not to do so. I believed before, and believe still that the receiving core of DEN has untapped potential – that is waiting for the opportunity to break out. This game was a missed opportunity for one or two receivers to have established themselves as the ‘go-to’ guy. It may be that the loss of Lloyd may have damaged the offensive capacity more than I thought it would. Covered receivers, dropped passes, and receivers quitting early on their routes had a lot to do with it. Chemistry, the Miami mystique, and game planning probably had nothing to do with it. There were those 2 or 3 passes that we are still wondering how Tebow could miss by that much, that we can excuse as new-start jitters. (I still have never seen a QB miss that badly – but was he hit? tipped?)
Bad cameras, I keep going to the cameras to see if TT is being hit as he throws or what is going on with that – couldn’t tell because the camera is exclusively on the ball. Strange cameras.
Kudos to the defense! All Bronco fans have to optimistic. Wilhite gets a pass for being beat for a couple of long ones as he finished the day with 10 tackles and an assist. He doesn’t get all the credit as MIA kept going after him is one of the reasons he had a lot of tackles. Defense looks solid and continues to get better. Mays is one of my favorites. Love Miller – can’t wait to see him play once experienced. Doom still looks slowed down to me. I don’t think he’s 100% (Not possible that a player would completely fail to mention some hurt – is it?)
I would still challenge Carnage to define why he thinks he gets to define what a QB is or isn’t. Not an NFL QB? Hmmm? To be or not to be an NFL QB is and will be defined by the level of success. Not by the style of play…period!
Lots of folks try to ‘can’ the conflict on the blog – don’t do that…it’s entertaining bloggestphere!
man I’m glad San Diego let Sproles go,altho I dont think they used him very well the last couple years, dude is killing it with the Saints
Tebow has done what no QB in history has been able to do….make “fans” argue over a win. The playcalling was what it was because Tebow threw the ball horribly and the run was all we had. This same site had blogggers post that our receivers were better than 80% of the NFL and now suddenly they suck? Tebow had 24 passing yards before Miami started playing prevent. 3 and 1/2 quarters 24 yards…the ONLY reason we were still in that game is because Miami IS INEPT! Objectively the offense never looked that bad with Orton. The Miami game is not a test because I believe we would have won that game with Orton. The issue the Tebowmaniacs fail to see is that TIM had two weeks to prepare for that game and still played like a man against boys. he complete more passes to coaches on the sidelines than he did players on the field. Can’t bench him now because the “fans” so vehemently wanted him. But by far the ugliest display of qb I have ever seen. We struggled to score 18 points….not against the Ravens or Steelers or Jets but against the DOLPHINS. Tebow had better show something much more than he did today or my gosh we will be in trouble.
