Broncos Waive Jackson

September 7th, 2009 - 3:14pm by Zach Eisendrath

The Broncos on Monday announced that wide receiver Chad Jackson has been waived.

The move makes room for Brandon Marshall to be placed on the team’s 53-man active roster.

Jackson joined the club as a free agent on Oct. 27, 2008. The fourth-year player totaled eight kickoff returns for 162 yards and a 19-yard catch in four regular-season games with the Broncos.

At first I wasn’t all too impressed with Orton. Then I went and watched some of the Bears old games and highlights. Orton was the best QB they’ve had in a while. I’m not saying he is the best, but with what he had as a supporting cast I’d say he did alright. Watching him in pre-season, man he has really progressed. He’ll continue to progress as the season goes on. I’m not saying he’ll take us to the promise land, but he has a winning record, is a good game manager, and we have a decent D this season, and we’ll hopefully have a productive ground game. With all that combined with an o-line that only allowed like 12 sacks last season and a QB mastermind in McDaniels, Orton could do very well. I’m hoping for just an improvement from last season, I set my sights a little lower than some, I’m just hoping for a winning season, to start out under this new system. Let’s just wait and see what the season yields.

  2. emaldo says:

Orton will be fine. Pre-season doesn’t mean anything…last year the 0-16 Lions went 4-0 in the preseason. The Colts always look horrible in pre-season and we know how they turn out every year. Don’t read to much into the pre-season performances or W/L records. Orton wasn’t even given a chance to show all his stuff in the 3rd game…chill out Bronco fans, we’ll be okay.

  3. Dynamicdave says:

I’m in total support of Orton (and McD) until it’s proven that I shouldn’t be. Hopefully, that day will never come. I see absolutely no logic in bashing a QB who hasn’t played a down of regular season. I see those out there bashing Simms as well? SIMMS? He was a good QB for TB till he was injured. He comes to Denver and did well, yet you want Brandstater, a rookie, in there after one game of preseason. Amazing, people. I really wish some of you could just sit back and listen to yourselves. There is too much impatience in the fan base. Who’s fault is that? Not McD’s. It’s Shanahan’s fault to start with. He got the ball rolling. But it’s also the fan bases fault who panic like Chicken Little (the sky is falling, the sky is falling) at the slightest sign of adversity. People who buy into what the media says as if they were the Bible? Funny.

  4. Atwater4Hof says:

what do you mean in saying it was shanahan’s fault that there is impatience in the fan base? are you referring to how shanahan seemed to unload and then reload a bunch of new players every season?

  5. bronco-blaze says:

DAAAAAAAAAng super dave is heating up for the season!! lol

  6. 07elway says:

Amen Dave!!! You tell ‘em! I’d be the first to agree with everything you said. haha and yes Dave is fired up for this season, as am I. Orton & McD have my support until proven otherwise. This is the team I’ve supported all my life, not gonna back down now. Good things will come of this season… be patient and have some faith. Not gonna kill ya!

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  7. TheOrangeCrush24 says:

Guys have you’s heard about Quinn, my god, not another marshall.

  8. brian_schneider says:

Aparently that big hit that Dawkins laid on him during training camp knocked the sense out of him. LOL.

No, in all seriousness, his agent said he didn’t do anything. Then again they always say that their client didn’t do anything. Innocent until proven guilty.

  9. Dynamicdave says:

Atwater4Hof, I was referring to his 10 years of mediocrite. He kept getting worse. Fans were getting sick of the .500 play (or worse) and wanted change. Yet when Bowlen got the change rolling, the fans screamed “FOUL!” They got what they asked for then were unhappy once they received it. Then after they got it, they are set to p*ss & m**n about anything McD does, or they expect instant results after only a preseason. What Shanahan took 10 years to ruin, will take McD at least a couple to right. He will have to do that through a couple of seasons. That doesn’t mean that he can’t get a lot done this year. Quite the contrary, he has brought in some very good talent. Next year he will finish tightening the screws at certain positions to achieve the McDaniels team. So, yes, Shanahan started the impatience (to win) and the fans need to learn how to change 10 years of whining into looking at the now and the positive. No, everything is not a bed of roses, “yet,” but it sure is far from total destruction like the press put out and that the fans are far too quick to believe.

  10. Dynamicdave says:

TheOrangeCrush24, we’ll have to wait to see what the truth is. I won’t judge Quinn till I get the facts. What I do see is a lot of women jumping oin the gravy train. I wrote a comment on the previous blog that I will copy and paste, if you guys don’t mind? Baylinorcrush had mentioned that these players need to just get married and put the drama behind them.

“It’s hard to get married when it seems that the majority of these women are turning out to be angry, gold-diggers. It would help, though, if the guys would stop meeting their girlfriends in clubs. Yeah, that’s a recipe for success. Not sure where Quinn met his, but many, many players met their women in clubs. STAY OUT OF THE CLUBS! They haven’t learn by watching people like Pacman, Burress, Marshall, Walker, DWill (may he RIP) and the list goes on, that clubs are bad mojo for you guys (high profile). It is nothing but proven bad luck. Some of the bad luck, you bring with you. Many, many clubs have the “gangsta’” element. Get a clue. Grow up. But, back to the women, pick your women better. I’m willing to bet that people like Royal and Hillis, who are God fearing players, will meet a decent woman and settle down. Look at Dawkins. God fearing and married to a wonderful woman. High school sweetheart. It’s all about choices.”

  11. Dynamicdave says:

    On, not oin. DOH!

  12. TheOrangeCrush24 says:

Yer you make alot of sense DD, what are you on this site anyway every one seems to respect you ?, are you just a loyal fan or something to do with the website ?

  13. brian_schneider says:

    He’s really John Elway…j/k

  14. Dynamicdave says:

TheOrangeCrush24, ha, ha, no, not part of the Site (although I would be honored). I’ve been a loyal fan for 37 years now. Went to my 1st live game in 1972. Denver/Oakland (we lost). Hooked ever since. I read a lot on the broncos. I study, do my homework. I’m not always correct, of course, nobody is, but it gives me an advantage with what I’m discussing. I work of logic, quite a bit. Sometimes my emotions get the best of me, ha, ha, but I will defend the Broncos through thick and thin. I’ve written articles for different sites, though, and I seem to have found a knack at it. When I start writing for Fan Huddle on Thursday, I will try to instill that positive thinking to the fan base. The last thing I would want is to have it turn into a blog like the DP’s. Whiners and bashers of both the team and the other fans. They get into name calling of a very personal nature. never needed in a blog. My motto is simple, “never say what you wouldn’t say in person” (and back up). People can agree to disagree while still remaining civil. Those who don’t, show their lack of keeping their emotions grounded and their lack of showing class.

  15. Dynamicdave says:

Sorry, didn’t spell check or proofread my comment. Apologize for the errors.

  16. The_Ink says:

Oh yeah thanks for asking bronco-blaze. LuLu is doing fine she is still in the hospital tho. I believe in a couple of days we are going to put her in a nursing home for a couple of weeks to build up her strength for surgery. They found a tumor behind her eyes and they have to do surgery to remove it. It is a risky operation and with her age it is hard to say. Thanks for asking!

  17. Dynamicdave says:

John Elway? Who’s that? Ha, ha. Naw, he’s too young to be me. I’m 51.

  18. Dynamicdave says:

The_Ink, like I said before, my prayers are there with you and the family. That was our worry when my mom had her open heart surgery. Age. LuLu is in my prayers.

  19. The_Ink says:

“They trade this guy into the same division (the AFC West) as Pioli’s and McDaniels’ teams, and the Broncos need defensive line help every bit as much as the Raiders do,” one NFL club executive pointed out. “But even those guys wouldn’t have been too quick to make a deal for a player they know they’d have a chance at getting next year (in free agency). And I don’t think Bill Belichick would have let him go now for a third- or even a second-rounder. When he got the offer for the first (in 2011), Belichick is saying, ‘The Raiders aren’t going to be good next year and they’re not going to be good the year after that, so we have to make this deal.’”

For the record, the Raiders have picked in the top 10 in each of the last five years.

Seems like Belichick is putting his money on Mcdaniels owning this division and the raiders picking top 10 for a couple more years….hahaha……………It’s not that they suck they have just been trying to beat everyone in the draft and with all those top ten picks they have been getting they are doing pretty good…I guess that is why all of their fans like to talk crap…….

  20. 07elway says:

Wow, I hope your great aunt can get through that surgery okay. Either way she’s in God’s hands and she’ll be taken care of. She’s in my prayers, as are you and your family. God bless.

  21. The_Ink says:

Thanks DD! Yeah I had someone ask me the other day on my poker site if I was Jay Cutler…………………lmao!!!! OK I will explain also……I had opened the account on full tilt poker and I have his name still as my handle because I have money transactions and stuff like that and I am not allowed to change it! Sorry to those who dislike him…..I might get around to changing it in the future! As soon as I get in a room with a bears fan and he says Go Bears!….I will have to change it then….I can’t be a part of that now can I?………..lol

  22. The_Ink says:

orangecrush…..I can see why you asked DD that…..it’s funny! DD just has a lot of class and respect and he is retired military as myself and we have military values to follow even tho we are out…..that is why I support kids coming out of school going into the military!

Thanks Ash….means a lot! How are you today?

  23. broncos20 says:

    DD,,you sure your not Mr.Elway???ahah..

ok, I’m absolutely psyched about our opener. The D better keep that annoying cat from growling…lmao…who’s their #2 WR??

The_Ink, those are some interesting points. Pretty smart on Belichiks behalf. Next years draft will be flooded with talent.

  24. The_Ink says:

I dont even live near Las Vegas but I play a lot of poker and hope to play in the Wsop next year just so I can go visit and drink a beer with DD and watch the game….

  25. The_Ink says:

Chris henry is their other wr and he is coming into his own…………..but we have answers for all of them…………dawkins, champ, goodman, hill……etc.

its a 2011 pick………..it is a really smart move by NE and actually BB earned some respect from me from pulling the trigger on that deal…………………that set them up to get talent…….I believe NE already has 2 1st next draft…

  26. The_Ink says:

I also heard NE is preparing to run more of a 4-3 formation on defense than a 3-4….the article said they were conforming to their players….just like we are….just changing in different directions

  27. 07elway says:

The_Ink…I’m tired, very very tired. Had to get up at 8 today (NOT a morning person at all, not even close, no way Jose…) and meet up with my teacher. The guy is hysterical so I eventually woke up but now I’m tired again. lol I have alot of work ahead of me for this semester. College is a pain!! grrrr

And actually, Dave could pass for a young Elway… he does NOT look 51 at all. He doesn’t look like Elway, but he looks younger than his age.

  28. baylinorcrush says:

DDave , the reference to getting married rather than getting screwed over by girl friend gold diggers on the gravy train, as you refer to them, is just that. You wanna get your rocks off, you’re in love with a girl, get married, get a prenuptial (you’re surrounded by attorneys anyway) and that way you throw out all that gold digging stuff out of the equasion. I mean, your theory about club women is fine, but when women realize how much money these guys are worth, club women or church going girls, it’s not gonna make any difference, the money possibilities will go straight to their heads. Personally, I’ ve always done fine financially and I first got taken to the cleaners (washing machine, drier, tumble dry, the whole thing)by a woman with whom I thought I had found the forever soul mate. Then I got smart, got me another woman, put it all on paper in a prenuptial, and in 15 years we’ve never had a split discussion over money because it’s all taken care of in the prenupt. There is no upside for her in screwing me over.
That’s what I meant about getting married to take care of the situations these guys find themselves in having gold digger girl friends. These guys are worth so much money and money is at the root of all evils. It’s a hard concept for most of people here who don’t have the millions we’re speaking of. But these guys do and they must act accordingly, otherwise they’ll always get screwed, whether by club women or catholic girls. Always loved Frank Zappa. I’m only 4 years your elder, DDave, you must know what Zappa song I’m refering to.
Anyway, I bet you stick to football on that fanhuddle (I will check it out), it’s probably a better subject for you than women, read some of your posts in the past….ahahahaha.

  29. BucknBronco says:

I like where the Team is at, dispite the whole rollercoaster ride. I think our future is bright. CHANGE IS GOOD.

    Go Broncos!

  30. theROYAL19treatment says:

    dd is a pimp…..

  31. 07elway says:

baylinorcrush… As a girl, I can tell you not all of us are like that. I wouldn’t give a crap if the guy had 1 penny or 1 billion dollars to his name. It depends on the girl, not if she’s a club girl or church girl. Club girls are more likely to fit that description of gold digger, that’s why they go to clubs. They think they don’t deserve any better than some green eyed jerk.

And its these very situations why money is the root of all evils. Can bet you 99% of the fights in this world are about money. That’s all people care about anymore. And the funny part is, it’s not even our money to begin with. It’s ALL God’s money, ALL of it.

  32. baylinorcrush says:

07, thanx for standing up for girls, however this was a post by a fifty some year old to another 50 some year old, I hope as a twenty two year old you didn’t get to offended. By the way, the girl who took me to the cleaners thought she was never interested by money, time has a way to change people. I hope you don’t and keep your integrity forever, as in footbal and life in general, as I say here often, it is the key ingredient to success.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

Speaking of integrity, Marshall has NO integrity and HE MUST GO!

  34. slicvic12 says:

Man this is horrible….check this out….

    http://www.comcast.net/slideshow/sports-09nfldreadfuldozen/

  35. 07elway says:

I’m not offended, I’m very opinionated so I just had to say something. And that would be the BIG difference between me and other girls… I KNOW I’m not that interested in money whereas you said that girl thought she was never interested in money. I want to be able to make my own money so I can support myself but enough so I can give it back. I know what I want, believe in, where I stand… time won’t change that. Like I said before it depends on the person. Some people will let time change them, others like me, won’t let that happen. There’s a difference between what people know and think. I know money is not my top priority. And you’re right, integrity is the key to success. People just have to decide if that’s something know and live by or if they just think it. #15 doesn’t even think it. He definitely has no integrity whatsoever, let alone respect for himself or anyone else. He’s a basket case off the field.

  36. TheRoyalBeast says:

As far as Orton goes…Im all for Orton starting….it would be a waste not to put him to use after what we lost to get him and draft picks….my stance is…if Brandstater starts week one i have no problem with that. Just wanna see what the kids got. If he starts and does well…I would like him to continue…keep some consistency. Orton might have excelled as a bear but hasnt been looking good as a bronco…im willing to give him a chance tho. Altho like ive always said…THE BEARS had a winning Record not Orton. Hasnt shown much of his game managing skills as a bronco. Our QB rank is filled with average joes…makes no difference who starts…all i want from whoever who starts is NOT TO DO TOO MUCH.

As far as McD goes…Dont like him, still dont until he proves he is not a shady d0uchebag like his mentor. Like I heard on ESPN radio…”Belichek prodigies tend to fail because they try to act to much like him instead of creating their own identity”…not a fan of the cheating belichek either.

As far as Marshall goes…I want him to stay…we never had problems with him on the field/in the lockeroom and as team player and teammate until this offseason. This has been a wild one…and has brought out the worst in people. We need him and he will make our/QBs lives easier.

  37. baylinorcrush says:

07, that’s the thing about time, only time can tell… You’ll be probably surprised where you stand on many issues 30 years from now. But like I’ve said in the past, you’ve got spunk, keep it up, I like that.

  38. BrandonBailey19 says:

I am officially done with ESPN. They are so quick to judge a team and rank a team when they have not even played a game yet. THEY HAVE US RANKED 27th IN THE NFL!!! Its okay im not really buying too much into it. I think McD has a plan up his sleeve to make the Broncos a good team. I just hope Denver shocks the NFL and does great things this year.

  39. TheRoyalBeast says:

Why are you so surprised Brandon Bailey….we were ranked as like 22 by NFL network not too long ago…I guess by ESPN standards we’ve fallen even further but in my book…if you aint number 1 or 2…you are at home watchign the superbowl like everybody else…

  40. TheRoyalBeast says:

In other words, dont let it get to u…their job is to be “analitical” not supportive….supporting is our jobs and i do say Bronco fans do it well…Im pretty darn sure we aint gonna be 20 or less. GO BRONCOS!!

  41. 07elway says:

That’s true baylin, but I’ve been the same person my whole life… I’m not changing for anyone or anything. That’s my spunk talkin’… time won’t change me in that way though. I want to earn my own money, sure, who doesn’t… but I’m not gonna turn into a money hog.

  42. biomagneticjoel says:

Indeed, Pat Bowlen has admitted to having bouts of short term memory loss (http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-bowlen-memory-loss-090209,0,4563356.story). One instance in particular may have jeopardized the team’s relationship with Cutler, causing Cutler to mistrust the organization. While it may have resulted in the loss of a star quarterback and brought into question Bowlen’s ability to make sound decisions, fans have absolutely no reason YET to think that Bowlen has thrown away hopes of a successful franchise in the near or distant future. Take a look at the past. The decision to fire Reeves and hire Shanny was nothing short of genius on the part of Pat Bowlen.

And while Shannahan had undoubtedly the best tenure in Bronco history, let’s face it, his offensive game plan had grown stale in the red zone. Cutler was often a mistake machine when it counted. Last season the Bronco offense finished 2nd in yards but only 16th in points. And the defense watched mediocre offenses, like the that of the Buffalo Bills, bull doze and run circles around them as they nestled their way to a dismal 29th ranking by the end of the season and blew their chance at winning the division.

Today, we have little reason to doubt that Bowlen made the right call with McDaniels. Yes, we can all agree that Pat Bowlen and McDaniels mishandled their relationship with one player who happened to be a young Pro Bowl quarterback. This was undoubtedly a mistake, however, disgruntled fans and loud mouthed NFL pundits can’t seem to move past this singular move, citing it as THE reason to forecast a gloomy future for the Broncos, but mark my words, predicting that McDaniels, Nolan and revamped Broncos Defensive Roster will fail in the 2009 regular season and beyond is a silly mistake. In fact, the hyper-critical media and fairweather Bronco fans should expect an improvement over last season in ALL areas.

Here are the reasons why: McDaniels has inserted a level of discipline that hasn’t existed in Dove Valley since Shanny took over in the 90s. When you factor in an offensive system that turned Tom Brady into the all-time biggest single season statistical success at the quarterback position in 2007, you should see much more then a faint glimmer of hope for Orton, or whomever is under center in 2009.

In my opinion, all us Bronco fans should be STOKED!!! This team has already shown VAST improvements on defense this offseason. The starting offensive personnel is almost identical as last year’s with only two exceptions – the loss of a pro bowl quarterback and the promise of a pro bowl running back. In spite of all the red zone mishaps, Bronco fans liked last years offense, right? Well 90 % of that offense will start against the Bengals on Sunday morning. Bronco fans despised last year’s defense, right? Well only 25 % of that defense will start against the Bengals – Elvis Dumervil, Champ Bailey and DJ Williams – 3 players I wouldn’t be surprised to see standing on the sidelines of the 2010 Pro Bowl right next to Brian Dawkins. Personally, I’m sick of reading blog postings from fairweather fans who’ve jumped onto the media bandwagon to bash our new head coach and new football team. Frankly, all of you naysayers should be thrilled for what’s to come. I’m going to go on record and make a conservative guesstimate here – the Broncos will have won 10 games and be in mid-season form by the middle of December. At that point we’ll hear all the former haters singing the praises of Mr. McD and the great Pat Bowlen as their football team makes a run at the Super Bowl. The Jay Cutler fiasco will become a distant afterthought.

  43. biomagneticjoel says:

Sorry, I’ve been needing to get that off my chest all offseason. Glad to finally get the chance. LET’S GO BRONCOS!!!

  44. whitebronco#1 says:

    Go Lulu!

According to the link slicvic12 posted, we’re the worst team in NFL… yeah, 32. So, we already have the bottom and there’s nothing below us. We have nothing to loose anymore. Now, every W is a well deserved punch to those who are putting us so low, because each W means we’re better than the looser team.

But well, this rank has “Jamie Winborn” still with us… do i need to say more?

Too bad the Bills aren’t in our schedule this year… poor guys!

    Go Broncooos!

  45. whitebronco#1 says:

biomagneticjoel… you have a big chest indeed… (jk).

    Cheers!

  46. Dynamicdave says:

slicvic12, don’t let it bother you. Many media sportswriters are idiots. They are only human and I’m willing to bet have their favorite teams and their teams to hate, as well. Their opinions are extremely biased. Then their are those who can’t think for themselves and follow the pack because they feel it’s “safe.” I’m actually glad that Denver is the underdog. Each victory that Denver gets is a nail in those sportscasters coffin. Trust me, when that day arrives, I will be knee deep into writing them an email to tell them how asinine their remarks were and how knowledgeable they are.

Baylinorcrush, I’ve listened to Zappa long ago (the Miraculous Mothers) but I’m not sure what song you were thinking of? I’m a Zep head. As for those female “clubbers”, living in Vegas, I’ve seen my share of them and they are all about the sex, drugs, rock & roll (more like new alternative and rap, now). Really sad to watch them throw themselves at the guys who look like “playa’s.” Still acting like young college frat girls. It’s bad out here. I don’t go to those places after I saw 1st hand what they were like. The football players enjoy coming to Vegas and the women flock to them like magnets. I just think that a church going girl is more likely to have better values and the players more likely to find true love. As for me, I’m seriously jaded, ha, ha. I love the women to death, don’t trust them worth a…..

  47. Dynamicdave says:

biomagneticjoel, here, here. Nice post. The media and naysayer fans will be hearing it from us when Denver does well. If they don’t, well, we’re used to hearing how they HAVEN’T done well, so it won’t crumble my world. Thing is, in my heart AND in my head, I feel Denver will excel. The crow is aplenty and I can always bring more for those who are still hungry.

  48. Marshallman-15 says:

this is really random, but Sports Illustrated has predicted we go 5-11. The front headline said, “If the defense is that bad, it doesn’t matter who is QB”. Now, I COULD see where they got that, but if you haven’t noticed, C.B. Cutler still has the talent to shut us down, but the Seahawks are rated in the top ten for offense, and Arizona is in the top 3. We shut them down and left them for dead. We lost to SF probably because of some fluke plays and a couple of Int’s on their part. Hang in there, I believe we will AT LEAST go 7-9. We aren’t as good on offense, but twice as good on D.

  49. Broncs55 says:

Hey John… errr… DynamicDave. In the same thread, you have been called John Elway and I have been called John Madden. lol

Too bad I have a man crush on Farve.

    lol j/k

  50. slicvic12 says:

DD, not really too bothered, been taking the laughs and comments for a while now. Just kinda funny to see that even though we lost Jay, but still bolstered our defense, we went to the bottom of the barrel. I understand that the quarterback is an important position, but what ever happened to the concept of team? Can’t wait ’til we start winning games and we get the last laugh.

    Go Broncos!!!!
