Broncos vs. Vikings: Series History

December 2nd, 2011 - 9:23am by Stuart Zaas

Denver and Minnesota will meet for the 13th time on Sunday. The Broncos have posted a 5-7 record against the Vikings and are 2-4 on the road in the series.

The teams haven’t met in the regular season since 2007, when Denver beat Minnesota 22-19 in overtime, and have met just twice in the past decade.

The series has been tightly contested throughout its history, with 11 of the 12 previous matchups being decided by a one-score margin. Denver averages 21.5 points per game and Minnesota averages 21.1 points when the teams have met.

Notable performances against the Vikings:

  • S Brian Dawkins: In five career games against the Vikings, including two playoff contests, Dawkins has posted 24 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He has recorded a 4-1 career record in those games, including wins in both playoff contests against Minnesota. Both of his sacks came in those playoff victories.
  • DE Elvis Dumervil: Made five tackles with half a sack and two forced fumbles the last time Denver played Minnesota (12/30/07).
  • K Matt Prater: Converted his first career field goal, a 45-yard kick against Minnesota (9/9/07).
  • CB André Goodman: Intercepted his first career pass during his rookie season while playing for the Lions (12/29/02).
  • Denver-Minnesota Roster Connections
Some interesting roster connections between the Broncos and Vikings courtesy of research done by Public Relations Intern Cydney Ricker:

  • Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin won a pair of Naitonal Championships together during their time at Florida. Denver defensive linemen Derrick Harvey and Marcus Thomas also played with Harvin at Florida.
  • Vikings Offensive Coordinator Bill Musgrave backed up Broncos Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway at quarterback during the 1995-96 seasons.
  • Minnesota Head Coach Leslie Frazier coached Denver safety Brian Dawkins in Philadelphia.

One Notable Performace Against the Vikings:
WR Ed McCaffrey: Caught a five-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds remaining that was tipped three times by Vikings defenders, to give Denver a 21-17 win (11/24/96)

      Is DMT a Bust?

I know one thing, He doesn’t block worth a spit!

Go to You tube and look up “Revis Whiffs on Tebow tackle” and watch Thomas avoid the block and let the linebacker hit Tebow hard and knock him out of bounds not getting the first down.

Demarius Thomas is soft like a marshmello….

He’s too dainty and fragile to be a football player and he always looks like he’s moping or pouting. I don’t see any fire in him at all… What a waste of a first round draft pick…

Was that a LB? Looked like a DE. Tectnically he should make the block but that dude has almost 100lbs on DMT and a full head of steam. F=ma, you do the math lol.

But youre right. He should make the block.

    7. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Wow dunno what to say about DMT … Maybe he though Tebow was gonna go out of bounds or somehtign and didnt wanna risk the contact that could send him to the hospital with a broken eyelash lol. Never shoulda traded Marshall … Just saying lol. Man did it all. Or Maybe we shoulda gone Dez over DMT. But I’d still take Brandon over them. DMT must be moping because the 3rd round WR drafted same year as him is beasting and he is doing nothing. He has been injured since he got into the league, and while his money keeps him warm at night, nothing like stats when u are an athelete. Mix that with the fact that the Broncos are asking him to do less and there u go. Really explains who was wrong on those deep balls to DMT, clearly he wasn’t runnign the right routes. This is fine. Just stay healthy and then next offseason get full work in. Thats all we can hope for and that he shows up next year. He got the physical capabilities, but he seems to lack drive or something. With all the Running we do, Our WRs are gonna be really good blockers lol. Except DMT apparently lol. TRB

After watching that it makes me think that he’s probably not selling his routes very well also. All he had to do is get in the defenders way even if he didn’t throw a block, he even had the element of surprise in his favor, a cowradly act if you ask me.

Von Miller returns to practice three days after thumb surgery
      By Lindsay H. Jones
      The Denver Post

Von Miller is back on the practice field today, three days after surgery to repair ligament damage in his right thumb.

Miller had his hand wrapped in a blue cast, and added a glove as the team began individual drills.

The star rookie will be listed as limited participant in practice and questionable for Sunday’s game in Minnesota. Miller will travel with the team to Minneapolis today, and he, coaches and team doctors will decide Sunday morning if he will play against the Vikings.

Miller did not practice on Wednesday or Thursday.

His return to the practice field today meant all 53 players on the active roster were participating, including wide receiver Eddie Royal (toe) and running back Willis McGahee (illness), who both missed practice time earlier this week.

Top pic is my boy Willis scoring a TD at Minnesota in the last game of pre season in 2010, my best guess anyway.

Good stuff about Demaryius OC, I was running a campaign here to trade him before our last draft to get an additional pick and everyone said I was crazy, seems like it would of been more useful now, just saying.

After reading the above remarks I have to ask this. Have any of you ever played football in a tough high school class or in college, let alone in pro football? and I’d bet the answer is no. Or played hockey, even in Junior A’s? Of course not. Is the Zaas article anything anyone with a brain would want to argue with? Again, no. It’s an ARTICLE.

Boy, you’d be a boring one to blog with if you find nothing to add, or talk about, to any article posted on here…
