Broncos vs. Seahawks: Second Half Blog

August 27th, 2011 - 8:45pm by Max Henson

Q3 15:00: The Seahawks will receive to start the second half.

Q3 14:59: Matt Prater’s kick goes through the end zone and Seattle takes over at the 20. Holding is called on Seattle’s Max Unger after a short first down run. That brings up 1st-and-20 and Forsett runs up the middle for 5 yards. On second down, Tarvaris Jackson goes down again as Von Miller comes off the edge for the sack. On third-and-18, Jackson completes to Mike Williams but its well short of the marker and the punt team comes on. Perrish Cox fields the punt this time and he is brought down at the Denver 15-yard line.

Q3 12:42: Orton’s pass on first down is knocked down at the line. McGahee picks up no gain on second down. On third down, Brandon Lloyd comes up with the catch in traffic for the first, but the wideout is flagged for a delay of game — tossin the ball away from the official. Still first-and-10 for the Broncos though. And on the next play Orton goes deep to a wide open Eddie Royal for a 42-yard reception. Spencer Larsen is called for holding on the ensuing first down. Ball marked on the Seattle 42-yard line. After the penalty, Orton has all day to throw and he finds Daniel Fells wide open and the tight end takes it down to the Seattle 14-yard line.

Q3 9:27: Orton’s first down pass is incomplete in the end zone. On second down, Morenon takes the pitch right and picks up a short gain but a facemask is called on the Seahawks and the Broncos move half the distance to the goal. On first-and-goal from the 6-yard line, Orton fires to Eric Decker who catches the ball just across the goal line for the touchdown. Prater’s extra point is good.

BRONCOS 17, SEAHAWKS 3

Q3 8:53: Prater’s kickoff goes through the end zone again and a flag is thrown on the play — a personal foul on Jeron Johnson — so Seattle will start at their own 10-yard line.

Q3 8:52: The second-team defense is in for Denver and on first down Forsett picks up three yards. Forsett runs left for a first down with an 11-yard gain on the next play. Washington takes the first down carry up the middle for 2 yards and then is met for a 2-yard loss on second down. On third down, Jackson is tracked down and sacked from behind by Jeremy Jarmon as the pocked collapsed to bring up fourth down. Cox is back to return the punt and after bobbling the catch, he falls on top of it and Denver will start on their own 24-yard line.

Q3 5:40: Tim Tebow is now in at quarterback for the Broncos who have sent out the second-team offense. Seattle has turned to their second-team defense. On first down, Lance Ball runs right for 6 yards and on second down, Tebow escapes the rush and finds tight end Julius Thomas down the sideline for a 20 yard gain. Ball runs right on first down and picks up 7 yards this time as Denver moves into Seattle territory. On second down, Tebow fakes the handoff and takes a shot before throwing an incomplete pass. On third down, Tebow scrambles and fumbles the ball but it is recovered by David Anderson and the punt team will come on. Britton Colquitt’s punt is fair caught by Doug Baldwin at the 16-yard line.

Q3 2:39: Seattle continues to work with the first-team offense and they come out in a hurry-up offense as Jackson fires complete for a 12-yard gain to Mike Williams. On the next play, Leon Washington runs for a 21-yard gain. Jackson then completes over the middle Ben Obamanu for another quick first down. Washington runs left and is stopped on first down after a 4 yard gain. On second down, Jackson completes to Sidney Rice for 5 yards. Michael Robinson then runs up the middle for 3 yards and the first down. Jackson hits Obamanu on a quick 7-yard pass and the third quarter concludes.

Q4 15:00: On second down, Jackson goes deep to Sidney Rice in the end zone and Nate Jones is called for pass interference — placing the ball at the 1-yard line. Thomas Clayton takes the carry on first-and-goal and is stuffed for no gain. On second-and-goal, Jackson finds Dominique Bird wide open on play-action for the score and the extra point is good.

BRONCOS 17, SEAHAWKS 10

Q4 14:16: Jeff Reed’s kick goes deep into the end zone and David Anderson takes a knee, putting the ball on the 20-yard line. On first down Ball takes the carry and finds a huge hole for 9 yards. Ball finds another gaping hole thanks to a key block from Shawn Murphy on second and short, picking up 12 yards and another first down. Jeremiah Johnson then picks up 4 yards. On the next play, Tebow rips himself free from a sack and fires a 23-yard completion to Johnson. Tebow then rolls left on first down and scampers out of bounds after a 2 yard pickup. Johnson takes a pitch right and a flag is thrown for illegal use hands to the face on the defense. First down at the 20 now for Denver.

Q4 10:38: Tebow’s first down pass short to Lance Ball is dropped. Delay of game flag is called on the Broncos moving them back 5 yards. On second-and-15, Tebow is sacked by Pep Levingston bringing up third-and-19. Tebow throws short on third down to Matt Willis and Prater is in to attempt a 40-yard field goal. And the kick is good.

BRONCOS 20, SEAHAWKS 10

Q4 9:15: Steven Hauschka is in to kickoff and his kick sails through the end zone for a touchback but a flag is thrown on the play for offsides on Denver so we’ll have a re-kick. Hauschka’s kick is returned by Baldwin this time and he returns it 105 yards down the left sideline for the touchdown. The extra point is good.

BRONCOS 20, SEAHAWKS 17

Q4 8:59: The ensuing kickoff is ruled a touchback so Tebow and the Broncos will start at the 20. On first down, Ball runs right and picks up a yard. On second down, Tebow rolls left and throws an incomplete pass intended for Dante Rosario. Tebow’s third down pass is complete to Willis for 10 yards and a new set of downs. Johnson takes a pitch left and is stopped after a one yard gain. Tebow goes deep down the sideline on play-action for Britt Davis on second down but the pass is too far and falls incomplete. On third down, Tebow completes to Willis again who stretches out and comes up just short of the first down.

Q4 6:34: Denver is challenging the ruling on the field that Willis was short of the marker.

Q4 6:33: After review the ruling on the field stands and Colquitt is in to punt. The ball bounces into the end zone but flags are thrown on both teams so we’ll replay fourth down. Colquitt’s second punt is returned by Sherman to the Seattle 23-yard line.

Q4 5:15: Charlie Whitehurst is in at quarterback for Seattle and he goes three-and-out, so John Gold is in to punt for the Seahawks. Anderson muffs the punt but the ball is recovered by Jeremiah Johnson and Denver will take over at their own 22-yard line.

Q4 5:00: After a short run from Ball, Tebow is swarmed by defenders and is dropped for a sack (5 yard loss). On third-and-long, Tebow’s pass is short for Eron Riley and Colquitt is in to punt it away. Sherman fields the punt for a short return but a flag is thrown for holding on Seattle, pusing them back to their own 21-yard line.

Q4 3:40: Alvin Bowen is called for a horse-collar tackle on second down but a holding penalty on Seattle means the two calls offset. On second-and-long, Whitehurst throws a screen to Thomas Clayton who picks up 23 yards. On first down Whitehurst completes a 9 yard pass to Baldwin, then completes a short pass to Baldwin for a first down, taking us to the 2-minute warning. The ball is spotted on the Denver 40-yard line.

Q4 2:00: Clayton takes the handoff no gain. On second down, Whitehurst completes short to Kris Durham for a 5 yard gain. Seattle then calls a timeout.

Q4 1:26: Whitehurst goes deep for Golden Tate but the pass is too far and falls incomplete. That brings up fourth-and-five and Reed is in to attempt a 53-yard field goal… and the kick is good. We are all tied up.

BRONCOS 20, SEAHAWKS 20

Q4 1:16: Offsides is called on Seattle on the ensuing kickoff so we have a re-kick. Anderson returns the kick out to the 23-yard line.

Q4 1:12: Tebow scrambles on first down and picks up 19 yards before getting out of bounds on the left sideline. On the next play, Ball takes a screen pass all the way down to the Seattle 32-yard line. Tebow then fumbles the ensuing first down snap but pounces on it and takes a short loss. Denver calls timeout with 18 seconds left.

Q4 0:18: Tebow rolls right and is brought down for a short loss. The Broncos call a timeout with 2 seconds remaining. Hauschka is in to attempt the field goal from 51 yards out…. and the kick is GOOD. Denver wins as the clock runs out.

FINAL: BRONCOS 23, SEAHAWKS 20

Thanks for following along. The Broncos now improve to 2-1 in the preseason and will close out their exhibiton slate on the road against the Arizona Cardinals Thursday.

Oh I’m sure Fox has his fingerprints all over the defensive scheme, no doubt about that. But if he’s the kind of HC who is open to suggestions (which I think he is) maybe Allen learned something from Williams that can help. I don’t know, I guess I’m just grabbing for any kind of hope, haha.

  2. Louisianabroncofan says:

Ya bay and if we keep losing d tackles like we are we may see that or worse run d rankings. You are right foxs d in Carolina wasn’t the greatest against the run. I hope we keep the rest of the d tackles healthy and get the ones we lost back sooner than later. We gotta keep our opponents from running all over us this year, it’s demoralizing.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

But the Fox /Allen combo is all I’ve always asked for, D oriented HC with a good agressive D coord. Fact remains we are very thin at DT, no way to sugar coat that, it’s still a position in this league that I know, LOL.

  4. alexanserg says:

Haha, that is a good point. When the Pats went 16-0, they went 0-4 in preseason. Meanwhile the 0-16 lions went 4-0.

BTW when are the record predictions?

  5. baylinorcrush says:

Season record predictions, I’ll start taking them first thing tomorrow, one prediction per blogger though, you may want to take your time, but after this third game everyone should have a pretty good idea because the starters won’t hardly play in the 4th.

  6. Louisianabroncofan says:

U shuld let the deadline be right after the raiders game. Then we’ll really have a better idea.

  7. baylinorcrush says:

No way, the deadline in fact is Saturday the day before Sunday’s first regular season games even so we play on Monday, everyone is going to have to guess on their instincts and preseason, other wise you’d be guessing on a 15 game season which is not a season.

  8. oldsouthstander says:

A very interesting game that almost got out of hand. Here’s my biased thoughts:

    OFFENSE
    QB
Orton B+ INT and 16 yd sack were extremely poor decisions!
Tebow B- With the pathetic O line he had in front of him, it’s hard to really decide which bad plays were his fault and which were the O lines fault. I was very, very pleased to see the number of times he was forced out of the pocket that he looked for and found the open receiver.

RB B Only one short yardage failed attempt, but long runs. Moreno is looking better each week.

WR A Deciding who to cut is really going to be tough.

TE A- Thomas is future pro-bowl material. Fells dropped pass is not acceptable. Good blocking.

    O LINE
!st team A- They looked like a chinese fire drill the first few seriers, but
    finally got the momentum going.
2nd team D+ GGGAAAHHHH!!!! The bad snap to Tebow almost cost us the win.

    SPECIAL TEAMS
Punt coverage A Not even a hint of Seattle breaking a big one.
Punt Return C+ Close to breaking a long one a time or two.
    Kick Coverage F GGGGAAAAHHHHHH!!!!! Inexcusable!!!
    KIck return N/A

FG A++++ Sure would have been nice to see Prater make the 69 yarder! Both FG kickers make 50+ yarders!! How often does that happen?? Wonder if the Broncos can wheedle a draft pick for Haushka(spo?)?

    DEFENSE
1st D LINE A++ Doom & Gloom and a whole lot more!! Looked better on run coverage.
2nd D Line C+ Allowed only 10 points including reps against Seattles #1 Offense.
LB B+ Filled gaps consistantly. Had hit them hard!
SECONDARY A Great play except for everybodys favotite DB, Jones. UUUGGGHHH!!!

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Anyhow this contest is not as brutal as the weekly score prediction one, it’s more of a good way to get the pulse of the Bronco fans about our season. I won it two years ago with the correct 8-8 and I drank the kool aid last year guessing 9-7 and looking stupid in the process, Carnage won it last year with 6-10 and TRB was second with 7-9. If you guys want a tip carnage the other day said he thinks we might go 10-6.

  10. Louisianabroncofan says:

It’ll definitely be a guess. No idea this year. Way too many unknowns for me to be any kind of sure. Plus the injury bug needs to stop chewing on the roster because we are really thin in some spots (dt) and even goin in fully healthy in some of those areas doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.

  11. oldsouthstander says:

Is there any place I can go on-line and get the stats from today’s game?

  12. WieminCA says:

It appears the Broncos can handle the weaker teams in the NFL – too bad none are on our schedule this year …

  13. baylinorcrush says:

    Cincinnati definitely qualifies, LOL.

  14. milehighmagic88 says:

I don’t know, I think several of the opponents on our schedule are overrated actually.

  15. baylinorcrush says:

Is that a fact or a wish, LOL.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

Fact is we have the third hardest schedule in the entire league.

  17. milehighmagic88 says:

It’s a fact. Some of the teams we’re playing have potential but haven’t shown me anything yet. We play Miami and Buffalo, I think at least one of those teams will be horrible and the other average at best. Detroit has tons of potential but until Stafford can stay healthy and they can be consistent on D I’m not buying it. And not every one of the good teams will be as good as they’ve been. History says about a handful of good teams will regress every year. So yeah, I don’t think every week is gonna be against a heavyweight.

  18. randy2191 says:

so are we just gunna make our predictions on here tomorrow? or through email what?

  19. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah but that’s based on last year’s records. Like I said not every good team repeats its success each year. Records fluctuate, having the 3rd hardest schedule based on who was good last year means nothing once the games start this year.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

You do it here, and I gather them all, do that all year for various contests of ours, hardest working blogger on the planet, haha.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

It is my belief that due to the short off season, this year teams records won’t fluctuate as much as in the past, no first to last or last to first switcharoos by example. Around 75% of the playoff teams from last year will return to the playoffs this season is my guess.

  22. randy2191 says:

but normaly 75% of the teams in the playoffs each year are there every year

  23. baylinorcrush says:

The ones I don’t see repeating their playoff bid are the Chiefs and Seattle and maybe the Bears.

But Pats, Falcons, Ravens, Steelers, Saints, Jets, Packers, Colts and Eagles are all heavy favorites again in my book.

Chargers will replace the Chiefs and who knows about the NFC West, probably the only division wide open.

  24. baylinorcrush says:

So my bet is a good bet, LOL.

  25. baylinorcrush says:

And if the Bears don’t get in, either the Giants or Buccaneers do, how is that for having the whole league figured out before the first regular season game, LMAO. Bear with me, just getting my football brains losened up for the season…

  26. randy2191 says:

Pats, , Ravens, Steelers, jets, colts, chargers, Saints, Packers, falcons, Eagles, rams, and bears is my guess

  27. baylinorcrush says:

“Pats, Ravens, Steelers, jets, colts, chargers” to make the playoffs, that’s my picks too and the only side I care about (AFC) and the problem is it’s a hard group for us to break into to earn a playoff spot, that’s for sure.

  28. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah but bay of those teams you mentioned that you think will go back to the playoffs again this year, we only play 3: the Patriots, Packers, and Jets. The Raiders are playing the Saints tough right now but I actually think they are gonna go backwards and I think the Chiefs are gonna go backwards too. Unfortunately I think the Chargers will be great this year, more so than in the past even so they’ll be very tough IMO.

Anyway I’m just saying we can’t be sure that last year’s records mean anything yet. Sure the lockout makes it likely that good teams will stay good and bad teams will stay bad. But this is the NFL, it’s never easy to predict whats going to happen regardless of the circumstances.

  29. milehighmagic88 says:

It’s funny everyone sees the Colts going back to the playoffs, but I agree. All the “experts” are saying they will be without Peyton and they’re gonna struggle and Houston’s gonna take over the division. But until that actually happens I don’t buy it. Peyton’s gonna be just fine and they’ll still win around 10 games.

Of the other teams, I think it’s actually possible that the Jets might stumble. I think Rex’s mouth is gonna catch up to him eventually plus they lost a lot of leadership on D this offseason (Trevor Pryce, Kris Jenkis, Shaun Ellis). Maybe it won’t happen this year, but I see the Rex Ryan project unraveling eventually.

  30. broncosmex says:

That Raiders rookie RB Taiwan Jones runs pretty good…

  31. baylinorcrush says:

Yeah, the Raiders running game will be the first real test for our D this year.

  32. milehighmagic88 says:

Yeah unfortunately it looks like the Raiders still have a bunch of guys who can run the ball.

I think their secondary is gonna be weak though, hopefully that’s something we can take advantage of when we play them.

  33. broncosmex says:

Yea, their secondary is really missing Asomugha, but their defensive line is looking good against the run.

  34. timmah says:

I would rather us have the number 1 hardest schedule in the league only because I think like the chiefs last year played the easiest schedule and got their butts kicked.. I think that if we play well against good teams or find a way to win and get into the playoffs we can go deep… but with a panzy schedule getting into the playoffs we would get beat badly by some other team.. It is better to have a hard schedule to see what you are made out of… I say we win six, orton will win 3 out of 8 tebow will win 3 out of 5… 6 and 10.. i put that prediction up tomorrow.. when we can start predictions anyways..

  35. baylinorcrush says:

Starting tomorrow through the 5th, only one entry per blogger, think it over good.

  36. strandoftds says:

  37. strandoftds says:

Mt guess is that the St. Louis Rams win the NFC west.

  38. E to the T says:

    MESSAGE TO JOHN ELWAY:

From a Long Time Believer In You as a Player.

Let’s just Go Back to Your Comments to the Baltimore Colts John when they Drafted You. You didn’t want to Play for them and or more specifically the Head Coach., Yet You accepted being Acquired by the Denver Broncos.

The Yankees were very Seriously Interested In You.

    OK.

Were You Ready to Play in the NFL John by the NFL Standards, or Was Your Drive to Play in the NFL already established and in breaded in You as a Person.

You didn’t take Stanford to any Bowl Games.

    OK.

Did that Matter to Any of Your Fans John.

    NO.

    WE BELIEVED IN YOU. PERIOD.

I’d rather see You getting Your Ass handed to You by the Safeties, Defensive linebackers, getting tackled, sacked, fumbling, throwing incomplete passes, interceptions and taking incorrect snaps under center ;) just to see and witness Your Moments of Greatness on the Field when they Occurred.

Who was it that Made that Decision to Start You as a Rookie John., with not even 1 bowl game victory, or bowl game period ;) as a Stanford QB.

    You Had The Drive John.

Did it take a Genius to See that., to Make the Decision to Start You as a Rookie.

What kind of Drive does Von Miller Have You think John ?

Is He the Kind of Guy you want on Your Bench his Second Year in the League.

What Kind of Decision Making Process is it to Bring in a Guy who has not 1 John, but 2 BCS National Championship Wins under his belt, and His Second Year as a Denver Bronco, and in the 3rd Preseason Game have a Guy Like this Come in with the Second String Offensive Line and See what Happens.

What Kind of a Feeling in Your Gut would you have about Denver Management John if they had done that to You ?

Your Second Year, They bring You in and You get to Play with the Second String O.

Dan Reeves at Least Knew that You were it, He was a QB, played the Position.

    Dan Reeves: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Reeves

A Dan Reeves/John Elway Head Coach/QB Relationship at least on Paper Makes Decent Sense., and the Two of You did Go to 3 Superbowls and had Great Success.

It wasn’t Dan Reeves or Your Fault that the AFC was Out Matched and Dominated by the NFC, they were a whole other League players.

    So, In Comes Mike Shanahan.

    Mike Shanahan: file:///Users/appleimac/Desktop/Right%20Side/Coaching%20Stats/Shanahan/Mike%20Shanahan%20-%20Wikipedia,%20the%20free%20encyclopedia.webarchive

Experience: 8 Years of OFFENSIVE Experience, and going on 16 Years Head Coaching Experience.

Did Mike Shanahan Get John Elway ?

YES ;) We Think He Did

Did Mike Shanahan know something about Mentoring and Assisting John Elway.

    YES ;) It appeared so.

    Now, Let’s Look at…..

    Tim Tebow John.

Let’s look at who He Learned from in College and what Kind of Guy is this Head Coach that knew something about Tim that the Alabama Head Coach also Knew along with many other Recruiters.

Urban Meyer: What Kind of Guy is this ? ;) What are His Stats as a Head Coach…, what Kind of Influence would he have on a guy like Tim Tebow.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_Meyer

Urban Meyer’s Overall Head Coaching Record.

    104-23 (.819)

In 2001, Meyer took his first head coaching job at Bowling Green. In his first season there, he engineered one of the greatest turnarounds in the NCAA football history, going 8–3 and capping off the season with a 56–21 victory over Bowling Green’s rival, the University of Toledo Rockets.

He also earned Mid-American Conference coach of the year honors. The next year, Bowling Green finished with a 9–3 record. After a 17–6 overall record, Meyer left for the University of Utah.

After two seasons at Bowling Green, he took the job at Utah in 2003. In his first year there, Meyer was named the Mountain West Conference’s Coach of the Year with a 10–2 record, the best ever for a coach’s first season at Utah.

Then He went on to Coach the Florida Gators to 2 National BCS Title Victories.

    Not Locally Televised, NATIONALLY TELEVISED.

This is a Guy who WANTED and SOUGHT after Tim to Play in the SEC Conference as His Starting Quarterback.

Obviously Urban Meyer is NOT Your Average College Football Coach.

Now Last Year in Tim’s Rookie Season, Came in a Temporary Head Coach for Denver. A Running Backs Coach, with Offensive Experience.

Did He Get Tim Tebow, Did He Believe in Tim ?

    YES HE DID.

Now, In comes 2011 and a NEW Head Coach is Named for the Denver Broncos.

    JOHN FOX.

Let’s take a Look at his Prior Experience…

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Fox_(American_football)

    Is He a Good Guy…

    YES HE IS ;)

Does He Get along with Everyone apparently in the Locker Room ?

    Yes He Does.

    OK.

    On to His Experience…

11 Years DEFENSIVE BACKS COACH, 8 Full Years Head Coaching Experience.

Hypothetically, let’s just say Maybe Tim Starts Next Year…

    Well OK.

Maybe All of the Stars Align Just Perfectly for that to Happen.

What Kind of Offensive Mentoring is Tim Tebow Really going to recieve from an 11 Year Defensive Backs Coach regarding Running a Winning Offense ??
