Broncos vs. Raiders: Pregame Notes

November 23rd, 2008 - 1:45pm by Gray Caldwell

12:41 MST: It’s pretty comfortable weather out there — a great day for the Broncos to finally be back home. It feels like it’s been a while.

The players just got done warming up and most of them are back inside — even Matt Prater and Brett Kern are absent from the field for the moment. I just got back up from the field after getting some shots from the earlier warm-ups. I’ll post those momentarily.

12:58 MST: The team just officially released the inactives for today’s contest:

Champ Bailey, Nic Clemons, Tim Crowder, Calvin Lowry, Marlon McCree, Nate Webster, D.J. Williams and Selvin Young will not play this afternoon.

I’m posting pictures from the field right now.

The Oakland inactives are Ricky Brown, Junius Coston, Jake Grove, Greyson Gunheim, James Marten, Marques Tuiasosopo, Michael Waddell and Javon Walker.

The lineup changes are as follows: Josh Bell starts for Champ Bailey, Roderick Rogers starts for Marlon McCree, Spencer Larsen starts for Nate Webster and Wesley Woodyard starts for D.J. Williams.

For Oakland: Jon Alston starts for Ricky Brown, John Wade starts for Jake Grove and Ronald Curry starts for Chaz Schilens.

1:18 MST: Much of the Broncos offense is on the field, and there’s a big crowd around the end zone — fans with field passes are stacked about three deep all the way around that side of the field. Jay Cutler and Darrell Hackney are tossing passes as the receivers run routes.

1:21 MST: The offensive and defensive lines just ran out along with the secondary. Now here come the linebackers. The team is warming up as the crowd lets out some pretty audible boos as the Raiders head out of the tunnel and huddle up in the far end zone.

1:31 MST: The New York Jets — Denver’s opponent next week — are ahead of the undefeated Tennessee Titans by three touchdowns. I, for one, did not see that coming. Anybody else?

1:49 MST: We’re getting close to game time. As I was writing that, four men wearing parachutes zoomed past the press box and down onto the field. The Red Bull Air Force, if I recall correctly. I think I want to sky dive some time, but I’m not sure if I could handle trying to land smoothly on a football field in front of 70,000 fans.

1:56 MST: The starting defense is being introduced first — they are Ebenezer Ekuban, Dewayne Robertson, Marcus Thomas and Elvis Dumervil on the line, Wesley Woodyard, Spencer Larsen and Jamie Winborn at linebacker, Josh Bell and Dre’ Bly at cornerback and Marquand Manuel and Roderick Rogers at safety.

All right, the we’re almost at game time, so I’ll see you in the first quarter blog.

  2. Biggymac609 says:

    too slow!
Broncos declared RB Selvin Young, S Calvin Lowry, S Marlon McCree, DE Tim Crowder, CB Champ Bailey, LB D.J. Williams, LB Nate Webster, and DT Nic Clemons inactive for Week 12.

    Biggymac:

Kyle Sonneman, Adam Zinser and I switch off live blogging duties every few games. Glad you enjoyed his blog — hope mine can live up to the standard he set.

  4. 15thebeast says:

So does this mean Barrett is starting if Lowery is inactive and so is McCree.

  5. jc13 says:

    what uniform are they using?

  6. Gray Caldwell says:

15thebeast: Actually, the inactives sheet lists that Roderick Rogers will be starting in place of the inactive Marlon McCree. Not sure what sort of playing time Barrett will see.

  7. Gray Caldwell says:

jc13: Some of the players have come out onto the field, and they’re wearing the home blue jerseys with white pants.

  8. StormST says:

If I remember right Bly is the only starter left from the first Raiders game D behind the DL. Talk about bad luck with injuries, eh?

  9. Torain ATV fan says:

Don’t you guys read the entry. Teo questions were asked that were stated in the entry. LOL.

  10. jc13 says:

darn i hope they use the blue on blue at least once this year i miss those do you know when they might use them?

  11. Gray Caldwell says:

StormST: Good observation, and it is a little crazy with all the injuries. But actually if you remember, Boss Bailey was injured so Jamie Winborn started in Week 1 as well. Marquand Manuel was also a starter. Defensive line included, I believe there are five new starters on that side of the ball this time around.

jc13: Not sure about when they’ll bring out the blue-on-blues. I like that look as well.

  12. StormST says:

Sorry, my bad! :) I forgot about Boss not playing the first week and the Safety positions are a little crazy this year for me… :P

I hope we can come out without more injuries from this game and of course with a win… :)

  13. jc13 says:

ok thanks gray i like that look to maybe youcan tell shanny that jason said to put those on even though there is no prime time at home this year tell shanny that you know a teminal ill child who would wanna see the blue on blues this year well thatnks for answering the question gray.

  14. Jaycutler#1 says:

    Does anyone have live feed?

  15. StormST says:

I think that when a QB throws 12/29 with 0 TDs, than his team will have a hard time winning. Every streak has to come to an end sometime… :P

  16. broncodoug says:

Is there a live feed that will work on a MAC?

  17. StormST says:

And just as I write it down, Collins throws a TD… :D :P

  18. Jaycutler#1 says:

does anyone know about a live feed!

  19. broncodoug says:

We can’t let McFadden get his. He’ll be hyped up because Hillis (His Ark teammate) is doing good and he is supposed to be so much better. Stop the Run, always.. Hit them in the mouth. Gary where does our run D stand as of late?

  20. Jaycutler#1 says:

    live feed anyone?

  21. Gray Caldwell says:

broncodoug: Well, for the past three weeks the run D has held three top runners in check…

Week 9: Ronnie Brown (59 yards)
Week 10: Jamal Lewis (60 yards)
Week 11: Michael Turner (81 yards)

So we’ll see how it goes today.
