Broncos vs. Packers: Third Quarter Notes

August 22nd, 2008 - 8:44pm by Adam Zinser

15:00: Clifford Russell and Glenn Martinez back deep for the second-half kickoff. It doesn’t look like we’ll see the starters anymore, as Marshall and Champ just now came out of the tunnel without pads on. I have not even spotted Cutler yet.

14:55: Martinez takes the kickoff out to the 20, and Ramsey does indeed come out onto the field to lead the offense. Marquand Manuel was shaken up on the kickoff, but he just got up and is walking off the field.

13:48: Ramsey gets hit as he throws on third-and-seven, and the pass is batted down by Aaron Kampman. Kern comes out to punt and he booms it 59 yards. But Kern’s long punt amounted to little, as Blackmon returns it 43 yards to the Denver 40.

Injury Update: Manuel has gone into the locker room for x-rays on an injured right thumb. He will not return.

12:12: Rodgers fires to the back of the endzone for James Jones, but he just barely overthrows him. On the following play, Rodgers again goes to the back of the endzone, this time for Martin. Karl Paymah flagged for pass interference, giving Green Bay a first-down on the one.

11:00: Brandon Jackson tries twice to get the one yard up the middle for the touchdown, but he is stuffed both times, first by Niko Koutouvides and then by Wesley Woodyard.

10:49: The Packers get into the endzone on their third try as Rodgers keeps it on a QB sneak up the middle for the touchdown. The extra point is good, and the Pack is back on top, 20-17.

10:46: Russel and Martinez again back deep for the kick. Martinez takes it again, but this one he kneels in the endzone for a touchback.

10:02: After a rush for no gain, Pittman catches a pass out of the backfield and takes it 10 yards for the first down. Hillis is in the game at fullback, and he made a nice block to give Ramsey time to make the throw.

8:37: The Packer defense eventually forced a fourth-down however, and Kern came out for another punt, this one 41 yards. Now the second-unit offense is on the field. Louis Green, who missed last week’s action recovering from his concussion in the first preseason game, is on the field.

7:46: Rookie QB Brian Brohm is now in at QB for the Packers.

7:46: Brohm’s first play is a handoff to Noah Herron, who takes it 14 yards around the right end and out of bounds.

5:55: The Packers face a third-and-short, and Brohm hands off to Kregg Lumpkin, who takes the ball three yards around the right side for the first down.

5:02: Paul Carrington is down on the field and being attended to. After just a few minutes down, he got up and walked off under his own power.

3:32: Facing a third-and-six on the Denver 35, Brohm’s pass is nearly picked off by Foxworth, bringing Crosby out for 53-yard field goal attempt that is no good, giving the Broncos the ball at the 43.

Injury Update: Carrington has a strained left calf and will not return.

2:30: The Broncos face a third-and-one, and Ramsey completes to Russell for the first down. A roughing-the-passer call against the Packers moves the Broncos further into Green Bay territory. First down Broncos at the 22.

1:55: Pittman takes the ball to the outside down the left sideline, gaining 16. First-and-goal Broncos.

1:50: Ramsey completes one to Brett Pierce, who is pushed out of bounds at the one. Third-and-goal from the one.

0:45: Cecil Sapp tries to take it up the middle, but is pushed back and denied the touchdown. The Broncos will let the quarter come to an end.

This Paymah kid has never really impressed me much. Not good in coverage and a poor tackler.

Here goes Ramsey staring down his receiver again. Geez, that guy scares the heck out of me as a backup QB. Give Hack a shot for God’s sake!

i’m with you Navy man, he looks right at them for a good two seconds, then he throws it to them! How annoying, bring in number 4!

Doesnt anyone on the sideline tell Ramsey to look off the receivers? Seriously. The dude never turns his head.
