Broncos vs. Jets: Second Half Blog

October 17th, 2010 - 3:35pm by Gray Caldwell

HALFTIME: The team is honoring 80 breast cancer survivors at midfield during halftime. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Broncos will receive the ball to start the second half.

Q3 15:00: Perrish Cox is back deep to receive the opening kickoff of the second half. The ball sails out of the back of the end zone and the offense takes over at its own 20-yard line. Knowshon Moreno takes a carry on first down, picking up 2 yards. On second down, Kyle Orton fakes a handoff before firing to Brandon Lloyd, but the ball falls incomplete. There’s a flag on the play — pass interference on Antonio Cromartie, giving the Broncos a first down at the 41-yard line. Tim Tebow is in the backfield for the next play. The rookie runs right up the middle for a quick gain of 4 yards. He claps his hands and runs off the field. Orton is back under center on second-and-6. He hands off to Moreno, who gets close to the first-down marker, but the offense is left with third-and-1. Spencer Larsen takes the handoff and looks to have picked up the first down, but the officials call for a measurement. It’s a first down for the Broncos.

Q3 13:00: On first down, Orton hands off to Moreno again, and the back picks up a quick 6 yards into Jets territory. Second-and-4 has Tebow in the backfield again, and the rookie hands off to Correll Buckhalter for a gain of a yard. On third-and-3, Orton is in the shotgun. He takes the snap and looks to his left, finding Lloyd for the first down.

Q3 11:00: On the ensuing first down, Orton hands off to Laurence Maroney, who hits the hole and picks up 9 yards to the 27-yard line. On second-and-1, Orton hands off to Maroney, who is brought down in the backfield for a loss of 4 yards. That makes it third-and-5, and Orton is in the shotgun. The quarterback fires a pass that is tipped before falling incomplete. Prater is in for another field goal attempt, this one from 49 yards out — and it’s no good. The Jets take over at their own 39-yard line.

Q3 9:38: On first down, Brad Smith is under center. He hands off to Shonn Greene, who picks up 9 yards to the 48-yard line. Kevin Vickerson is down after the play.

Q3 9:27: Vickerson walks off the field under his own power. The previous play was actually a gain of 8, so the Jets have a second-and-2. Smith is still in under center, and this time he runs it himself for the first down. The Jets call their first timeout of the second half.

*INJURY UPDATE* Vickerson has a groin injury and is questionable to return.

Q3 8:43: At the Denver 46-yard line, Sanchez fakes a handoff on first down before being brought down by Marcus Thomas for a sack. That makes it second-and-13 for the Jets. Smith is back under center, and he hands off to Greene, who picks up 6 yards before being taken down by D.J. Williams. On third-and-7 at the 43, the crowd is on its feet. Sanchez drops back from under center and fires to Santonio Holmes, but the receiver is short of the first-down marker. On fourth-and-1, Nick Folk runs onto the field to attempt a 56-yard field goal. It’s through the uprights to tie the game as the kickers exchange deep bombs.

BRONCOS 10, JETS 10

Q3 6:41: Cox is back deep to receive the kickoff, but it’s another touchback and the offense takes over at its own 20-yard line. Orton fires to Royal for a quick 3-yard gain on first down. The next play is another pass from Orton to Royal, and the receiver is hit hard by Darrelle Revis, jarring the ball loose. That makes it third-and-7. Orton avoids pressure before taking off, scrambling and eventually diving for the first down, much to the delight of the crowd. It was a 9-yard gain to the 32. On the ensuing first down, Tebow is back in under center. The rookie finds the hole and picks up 6 quick yards, slapping hands with Orton as he heads back to the sideline. On second-and-4, Moreno takes a handoff forward for 2 yards, setting up third-and-2.

Q3 4:24: On third-and-2, Orton is in the shotgun. The quarterback’s pass intended for Daniel Graham is incomplete, and there’s a flag on the play — pass interference on Graham. The penalty is declined, and it’s fourth-and-2 at the Denver 40-yard line. Britton Colquitt is in to punt. Jim Leonhard fields it at his own 15-yard line before being brought down immediately by Cassius Vaughn. Leonhard essentially falls forward for a 4-yard return after Colquitt’s 45-yard punt. New York takes over at its own 19.

Q3 3:43: LaDainian Tomlinson is brought down by D.J. Williams after a 3-yard gain on first down. Second down brings a pass from Sanchez that is tipped and nearly results in Jason Hunter’s second interception of the day. On third down, Sanchez is chased out of the pocket before throwing a pass that is tipped yet again, forcing a punt. Syd’Quan Thompson is back deep to receive, and the rookie calls for a fair catch at the 34-yard line.

Q3 2:51: Moreno picks up 2 yards on first down. On second down, it’s Moreno again, and he runs into a wall of defenders after another gain of 2. Eric Decker is in the slot on third-and-6. Orton drops back and fires deep to Lloyd, who hauls in the pass for a big gain, and there’s a flag on the play for unnecessary roughness — a helmet-to-helmet hit, adding 15 yards to the end of the play. It was a 29-yard reception to begin with. Orton took a big hit on the throw and was slow getting up, but Ryan Clady helps him up and he jogs down to the new line of scrimmage. The Jets have decided to challenge the ruling on the field that Lloyd made the catch.

**INJURY UPDATE** Royal has a groin injury and is questionable to return.

Q3 1:34: The ruling on the field is upheld, and the Jets are charged with their second timeout of the second half. On first-and-10 at the 17-yard line, Orton tries to connect with Daniel Graham, but the pass falls incomplete. On second down, Orton lofts a pass to Demaryius Thomas for a 17-yard touchdown, the rookie’s second of his career. Prater’s extra point is up and in, and the Broncos retake the lead.

BRONCOS 17, JETS 10

Q3 1:23: Prater’s kickoff is fielded in the end zone and returned to the 24-yard line, where the Jets offense takes over. On first down, Sanchez fires over the middle of the field to a wide open Dustin Keller, who weaves his way downfield for a 41-yard gain to the Denver 35-yard line. The ensuing first down is an end-around to Santonio Holmes, who fumbles the ball. It’s recovered by the Broncos — Renaldo Hill comes away with it, and the offense takes over on its own 19-yard line.

Q3 0:36: It was Perrish Cox that forced the fumble. As Orton jogs back to the huddle, he quiets the exuberant crowd. The final play of the third quarter is a 1-yard run by Moreno, and the crowd is on its feet ans Daniel Graham leads a run down to the opposite end of the field, where the Broncos will face a second-and-9 at the 20-yard line when the fourth quarter begins.

Q4 15:00: On second down, Orton fakes a handoff before being sacked. Third-and-17 brings a handoff to Correll Buckhalter, who picks up 2 yards. Colquitt is in to punt from his own goal line. Leonhard fields it as it goes out of bounds at the Jets 47-yard line — a 39-yard punt.

Q4 13:52: Tomlinson picks up 3 yards on first down to midfield. On second down, Brad Smith is in the backfield, and he carries the ball on a direct snap before being hit hard by D.J. Williams. The gain of 3 makes it third-and-4. The crowd is getting loud as Sanchez drops backand throws incomplete toward Braylon Edwards. Weatherford is in to punt, and Syd’Quan Thompson calls for a fair catch at the 7-yard line.

Q4 12:25: Moreno picks up 2 yards on first down. On second down, the running back is tackled by a pack of Jets for a loss of the 2 yards he just gained. Third-and-10 has Orton in the shotgun. He throws deep down the sideline intended for Lloyd, but the receiver can’t quite adjust for the ball, and it’s tipped around in the air before falling incomplete. Now Colquitt is in to punt from the back of his own end zone. He booms the kick to the opposite 40-yard line, where it bounces high in the air before being fielded by Kyle Wilson. The rookie picks up 6 yards on the return, giving the Jets the ball at their own 46-yard line after Colquitt’s 53-yard punt.

Q4 10:43: Sanchez is under center on first down. He fakes a handoff before firing to Holmes in the middle of the field in front of Cox. The connection puts the ball at the Denver 33-yard line. On first down, Sanchez hands off to Greene, who finds the corner for a gain of 8 yards before his helmet pops off, ending the play. On second-and-2, Tomlinson is tripped up — but not before he picks up the first down. New York has a first-and-10 at the 20-yard line.

Q4 9:00: On first down, Sanchez drops back and pump fakes before trying to find John Conner — “The Terminator,” for those of you who watched Hard Knocks. The pass falls incomplete. On second-and-10, Sanchez hands off to Tomlinson, and the former Charger bursts through the hole and sprints 20 yards for the game-tying touchdown. Folk’s extra point is up and in.

BRONCOS 17, JETS 17

Q4 8:36: After a touchback, the offense takes over at its own 20-yard line. Orton drops back and fires to Lloyd, who goes up and over Jim Leonhard for a first down — a 19-yard pickup. The ensuing first-and-10 brings a run by Moreno, who weaves his way through the defense for a 14-yard gain. Denver is called for a false start before the next play. Now first-and-15 from the 48-yard line, Maroney fights his way into New York territory with a 4-yard gain. On second-and-11, Orton fires deep to Thomas, who nearly goes up and over Revis to bring the ball in, but it falls incomplete, bringing up third down. Orton lines up in the shotgun. He steps up in the pocket and makes one defender miss, scrambling for his second first down on the ground of the afternoon. The 13-yard gain gives the Broncos a first down at the Jets 35.

Q4 5:14: Tim Tebow steps back into the backfield on first down, picking up 2 yards on a run. On second down, he fakes a handoff before running to the left side of the defense for a gain of 3. Now third-and-5, Orton steps back in at quarterback. From the shotgun, he fires out of bounds to bring up fourth down. Prater is in for a 48-yard attempt. His kick is up and in, giving the Broncos the lead.

BRONCOS 20, JETS 17

Q4 3:55: The crowd is as loud as it has been all afternoon as the Jets face a first-and-10 at their own 20-yard line after Prater’s touchback. Sanchez winds up and fires deep intended for Braylon Edwards, but Renaldo Hill is there to make sure the pass falls incomplete. On second down, Tomlinson takes a carry and he’s brought down after a gain of 5. Now third-and-5 at the 25-yard line, the crowd is shaking the stadium. Sanchez quickly finds Edwards for a first down just past Cox. Now on the 32-yard line, the Jets hurry up to the line. Sanchez finds Jerricho Cotchery for a 4-yard gain on first down. On second-and-6, Sanchez takes the snap amidst chants of “Defense! Defense!” Tomlinson takes a handoff but he’s brought down by Mario Haggan for a loss of a yard. On third-and-7 at the 35-yard line, Sanchez connects with Santonio Holmes for a first down near midfield.

Q4 2:00: After the two-minute warning, the Jets break their huddle with a first-and-10 at their own 47-yard line. Sanchez buys time in the pocket and drops a pass off to Tomlinson for a 4-yard gain into Denver territory. On second-and-6, Syd’Quan Thompson breaks up a pass intended for Cotchery. On third-and-6, Sanchez lines up in the shotgun. He fires a pass down the middle of the field intended for Dustin Keller, but Nate Jones was right there in coverage, leaping and swatting the pass out of the air. Brian Dawkins is on the sideline hyping up the crowd as the Jets face a fourth-and-6 at the Denver 48-yard line. Sanchez lines up in the shotgun and fires deep downfield as he’s hit in the pocket. Renaldo Hill nearly intercepts a pass at the 2-yard line, but the refs decide to call pass interference on the play. The Jets now have a first-and-goal at the 2-yard line. On first down, Tomlinson runs into the end zone for his second touchdown of the day, celebrating with his signature whatever-the-heck that thing is, putting his hand behind his head and rolling the ball off his hand. The extra point is up and in.

JETS 24, BRONCOS 20

Q4 1:13: The Broncos offense will take over at the 20-yard line after another touchback. With all three timeouts remaining, Orton jogs out to the huddle. He drops back into the shotgun and quickly finds Jabar Gaffney for a first down. The receiver runs out of bounds to stop the clock. Orton lines up in the shotgun again, finding Lloyd in front of the coverage of Antonio Cromartie down the sideline for a 20-yard gain into Jets territory. Denver calls its first timeout of the half.

Q4 0:58: On first down, Orton is in the shotgun. He buys time in the pocket and nearly finds Demaryius Thomas inside the 5-yard line, but the receiver can’t quite come up with it. On second down, Orton finds Gaffney for a quick 4-yard gain before the Broncos call a timeout to stop the clock. The catch, however, is under review.

Q4 0:42: The ruling on the field is confirmed. It’s third-and-6 at the 44-yard line. Orton is in the shotgun again and is motioning to his receivers. The snap is bobbled, however, and the Jets recover to seal the game. The Broncos lose 24-20 and fall to 2-4 on the season. The Oakland Raiders head to INVESCO Field at Mile High next week.

yeah me too. I’m really satisfied with the way the Broncos played today. We showed the Jets, and the league in general, that we are a team that is worth contending and will give other teams a run for their money

  26. Deify_you says:

Could be worse we could of lost to the Rams or the 49ers. Thanks Chargers, Chiefs, and Raiders, you make our perception of a loss taste a little less bitter.

  27. timmah says:

what the in the world was orton doing. He should’ve dropped on it and them call a time out instead of trying to pick it up…stupid on his part.

  28. dontdewittit says:

Youth was served today. The rookies and other young players looked great. This was the first Bronco game I have enjoyed watching in a couple seasons. Like the good old days. I knew they wouldn’t win, but this is far better than I thought they’d look. Nice job gentlemen. While there’s no such thing as a moral victory, this is as close as you get. Impressed. Luckily, everyone else in this sorry division lost today. Still in the hunt.

  29. Broncomania56 says:

This one is on the offense. BS, conservative play calling. The offense created the outcome of this game. You cannot get the opportunities this team did today and squander them. I was glad to see that we got the run game back on track, however thought we could of limited the amount Tebow was used. Should of switched it up and let him throw one, that would be impressive. An onside kick that resulted in 0 points. 2 INT’s that resulted in nothing. Even with the Help of the refs, we still lost. Defense does not stop opposing teams when it matters most, rather commits penalties, which give the opposing team a 1st and goal. Offense had an opportunity and fails miserably. What a crapy way to loose a game. This would of made us contenders. I hate being a Broncos fan right now, however will continue till the day I die.

  30. bronco-blaze says:

The better team lost today. What a stupid play by a vet in renoldo hill though. They were hopeless, threw a bomb on 4th down and they end up getting a penalty? We screwed up BIG TIME this week. We really coulda done wonders with a win here, considering every 1 else in the west choked. Were not going t o keep getting lucky with SD losing like this, and were not taking advantage of it at ALL

    Great game, Terrible ending.

  31. broncos504 says:

i feel good because we play hard even thought we loss good game and imagion what would of happen if we was health a b dawkins and andre goodman was there we will make the playoff Chargers, Chiefs, and Raiders suck

  32. BeastFromEast92 says:

Maybe Mr. B will realize we need to resign Champ now!!!!!!!!!!

Would’ve been nice to be in sole 2nd place in the division. Now we definitely need to take advantage of the weakest part of our schedule, and kick some a** in the division games we are still 0-0 within the division.

  33. bronco-blaze says:

Im happy with the effort we played with in this game, for once it was a great game plan , and the players actualy played with heart. we lost this game because of a rookie and 2 vets…. Mainly renoldo hill =-/

  34. the joel says:

    dontdewittit says:

Impressed. Luckily, everyone else in this sorry division lost today.

hahahahaha that was a good one, but hey lot of football left 2-4, chargers were 2-3 last season and they turned it around we can too. we just lost 1 more game to a great football team c´mon bronco bro´s, we´re a tough team. So lets kill the raiders and niners, think about it for a wk and we´ll see what happens afterwards!

  35. the joel says:

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. Broncomania56 says:

had ample time to win this one with 3 time outs left. Walton and/or Orton what were you thinking. Gotta get the snap right, if not, gotta fall on the ball. With 4th down you got another chance. turn it over, you loose. damn, damn, damn. This one hurts!!! The worse loss of the season!!!! I seriously think our team team today is better than the one with the VETS!!!! Add Goodman to the mix and we are fine. I would not let Dawkins play another down, nor would I put Ayers in the game. Today showed the best defensive team we have!!!! Although a referee call was the difference in this one. McDaniels needs to realize we are a pass 1st offense, run 2nd. This one slipped between our fingers and we killed ourselves today. Sucks butt!!!! get ready for the Raiders!!!!!

  37. BeastFromEast92 says:

IDK…but I don’t think we have ever played 6 games before even playing a single division game. The Chargers and Raiders suck, but I watched the Texans/Chiefs game earlier, the Chiefs are for real…..at least I think.

  38. sc_socnorb says:

I am usually a big mcD fan but today’s offensive play calling was terrible. We are the number one passing team and when the game is ours to win we try to win it by running?? I liked the mix up with tebow today, I think that helped our run.

Seems we cant play complimentary football, when defense does good we cant take advantage on offense and vice versa.

Also not a single screen pass all day yet jets blitzing like crazy.

  39. bronco-blaze says:

Sc_socnorb, i dont see how the play calling was terrible??? I thought it was very good IMHO…

  40. sc_socnorb says:

not when your up by 7 and have the best passing tandem in the league and you try and run twice.. and then get in obvious passing downs. Or once we established somewhat of a run try using play action.

also anytime we get within field goal range we seem content. See that stat where we are 2nd in the league getting within the redzone and 26th in touchdowns.

How many points did we get off turnovers today??

We should have won this game.

  41. sc_socnorb says:

With that being said there was some good play calling, tebow in near the goal line, giving to larsen, etc. The two field goals plays killed us as well today(bad snap, mixed 49 yarder).

oh well, luckily we are still in the mix in our division.

    Score predictions result:

Well, as usual, in the case of a loss we are going to keep the praises to a minimum, however, as in every week, we have some winners and losers this week, and the winners are:

In first place we have a tie:

WieminCA, 17-27, only 6 points off and
Baylinorcrush, 20-30, also 6 points off and guessed the correct Bronco score!

    Third place:

vabroncoguy, 10-24, 10 points off and also guessed the correct Jets score.

    Fourth place:

    MANDIEGO, 17-34, 13 points off.

    Fifth place:

danso, 20-38, 14 points off and also had the correct Bronco score.

And as in every week, we have a guy who just belongs on the Wall of Shame no matter how you look at it, and this week it is:

ddk002, picking the Broncos to win by 2 TD’s and a FG, 31-14, very little respect for Rex obviously. And not to rub it in, but its is the second time this season ddk002 is getting himself on the Wall of Shame, going for a record of some sort I guess, LOL.

I can’t wait to have us winning games again as it is so much more fun to do this contest results thing, however I will take the win, haha. Come on Broncos, losing is no fun at all either way you look at it, we need to get on a winning streak and with the Raiders and Niners coming up we better get on track, otherwise we will soon have no fun at all.

Anyway, as usual you can place your score prediction anytime between tomorrow and through Saturday for the Raider game, no picks on game day.

  43. brian_schneider says:

I thought we played a lot better than I thought we would. I will honestly say I thought the outcome looked pretty bleak. Nice to see the running game actually contribute positive yardage wohoo 100+ yards of rushing. I thought the playcalling was good, the effort was there just some execution mistakes. That doesn’t make the loss any easier to stomach but c’mon it was a pretty good game. I’m still not sure why they didn’t call it a facemask penalty instead of a PI, maybe it doesn’t matter it is always PI. I must say they did give us a few breaks. We get the running game going and Orton and Lloyd have an off day. I really was happy to see Tebow. I think we should run the wild horse and throw a screen to Tebow and then go deep, that would be great. I think I’m honestly not too upset with McD or our players. Just gotta do some things better obviously, snaps especially, like I need to even say that. I really was hoping for a win but it seems like the 4th quarter is never ours. We need to start finishing the game and making turnovers into points. I think we only turned their turnovers into 3 points. We need to turn them into more points that that. I thought for sure this would be the day we gained a game but I guess not. Well here’s to hoping for a victory next week.
    Broncos 31 Raiders 20.
IMO I think we played the best overall game this week just didn’t execute in the clutch. I thought I was watching Elway in the two mintue drill they way Orton was taking huge chunks of yardage in 2 plays. Hopefully we can put together another great effort and come away with a victory.

    Go Broncos!!!!

  44. footballMANIAC says:

Considering the caliber of the opponent, we played well. As much as I hate to say it, the Jets are good. The thing that gets me, though, is that we had 3 missed scoring opportunities- the fumble on the first drive, the bobbled FG, and the missed FG. If we’d gotten any of those, we could have kicked a FG for the win.

  45. brian_schneider says:

I was happy to see the young guys step up especially on defense. The way the game started off I thought we were going to have a quite a few interceptions. I really think that Jones really takes some bad angles and seems to lose some steps and let the WR gain more seperation on him. Maybe it is just me…but it seemed like there were a few plays where he was just out of position when it came time to cover the WR.

C’mon now…Raiders in our house, I think it is time to take some frustration out on ‘em. While the rivalry isn’t what it used to be it is a divisional opponent so these games are always tough. In all seriousness, the way that SD and OAK are playing I really think that we could sweep ‘em both and maybe split the series with KC. I know I’m getting far ahead of myself, but remember last year when SD 2-3 and we were 5-0, they turned it around and after yesterdays performace I think we can too. We obviously didn’t lose the game because we don’t have the talent.
Another good game this week, now it’s time to eliminate the mistakes and take one bite out of our divisional opponents.
baylinorcrush, don’t I get any love for the 24-21 prediction? I know I said in OT but does that automatically eliminate me from the results?

  46. brian_schneider says:

baylinorcrush: Nevermind, I went back and checked it was 27-24 in OT. My mistake.

    Go Broncos!!!!

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Brian, that wouldn’t of made any difference, anyone who picks us to win is automatically eliminated from the competition if we lose even if they are closest to the score, and vice versa, I mean how could you expect someone to win a contest if they say their team is going to win and they lose, but nice try anyway, LOL.

  48. vabroncoguy says:

well, I guess I can say some good thing, some bad things and some ugly things but I think that is baylin’s job. I will say this. I came out of this game not fefeling too good about this team. I am sure everyone is going to say How? THey played the Jets tough. I think if you watched this game, Mcdaniels sent a message to this team and the fans of this team that we re not very good. I believe he instilled all week that we can not beat the Jets unless we trick em. Remember, the Jets, short week, flew acroos country, arrived in Denver on Friday, and played poorly, and they STILL managed a win. The officials BLEW two calls against us, that significantly helped. The call on Leonard was horrible and Bay-Bay didn’t score. (just being honest) From the beginning of th egame McD was playing “gimmick” football. No huddle, onside kick, Tebow. Saying all week Knowshon was not gonna play. We pulled every trick we could and ended up losing. I think at some point you have to line up and play football. Strategy is one thing, trickery another. Although I will say, I think the team played inspired ball at home. The defense played somewhat better. But overall we do not have the players to be a good team. People talk about our receivers, but can you tell me one time this year that we have had an “open” receiver. I mean one that has created some seperation. Can you tell me when we have gotten ANY YAC. these are all things that come with having talent not team players. So far as a “team” we are 2-4. That is not good.

  49. baylinorcrush says:

Anyhow, the score competition is getting all reved up, the way it will all come down at year end is everyone who placed in the top 5 places plus the Wall of Shame dude will be given or taken away points for their effort and at year end we will have the top ten competitors for the season. Points are assessed this way:

    1st place: 7 points
    2nd place: 4 points
    3rd place: 3 points
    4th place: 2 points
    5th place: 1 point
Wall of Shame spot: minus 5 points

After three weeks of competition we have a nail biter at the top with UKBroncos with 2 second places and one third place for 11 points and yours truly, baylinorcrush with one win, one third and one fifth for 11 points also. ddk002 is now clearly trailing the competition with two Wall of shame entries for minus 10 points.

Well, yeah, it is now time for the Good the Bad and the Ugly:

    The Good:

McD somehow got a revelation of some sort, or maybe did really get hit by lightning, because he did all sort of things that many of us bloggers have been asking for all season, like using Syd’Quan and Tebow, I mean having any of these two guys ever deactivated for a game is shameful, five weeks we have been waiting!!! Results, INT and TD, better late than never is my opinion of McD as some of you guys well know. We usually see it weeks or months ahead of him, but in the end somehow he gets it, another way I call him is too little too late McD, which also examplifies perfectly what happened yesterday. He also used some imagination like the onside Kick, absolutely amazing, either the guy is starting to have fun with it or he has definitely entered the panic mode, either way I was flabbergasted to see him show imagination and so were the Jets.

Plenty of good effort out there other than stated above like Royal, Gaffney, Lloyd did come through in the second half, Moreno averaging 4 yards per carry but ugly fumble, Bailey and DJ.

    The Bad:

Our cornerbacks need to attend some serious ball handling clinics, I mean between Bailey and mainly Cox, we had three realistic INT’s falling to the ground, totally unacceptable if you want to gain an edge in any game.

We get three misly points, THREE POINTS, out of three turnovers, that right there is pathetic. Add that to the fact that we got nothing out of the onside kick, and to the fact that the Jets played poorly and you just get a notion of really how inadequate we were out there. The Jets even gave us the unbelievable break of not throwing the red flag on Thomas’s TD that was clearly not. I really am not gonna assess the poor performances here since I got a couple coming up in the Ugly section.

    The Ugly:

I got a 4 way tie starting with Reynaldo, no way no how you put your hand in the face mask of a WR with the game on the line, inexcusable. Then Walton snapping the ball to a ghost at the most crucial point of the game, inexcusable. And Orton not simply falling on the ball which would of given us one more shot, instead he thinks he is Houdini, and that with defenders barreling down on him, he is going to be able to scoop the ball up AND DO WHAT WITH IT?? It was basically a dead play already anyway, falling on it was the only thing to do, inexcusable. And I could of given the 4th spot to Paxton for the muffed FG snap, but I will instead give it to McD for showing us all right off the bat as soon as he took over in Denver how asinine some of his talent decisions are: He let go of the best long snapper we ever had, Mike Leach, the one who helped Elam in achieving all his records, for what? N-E look alike Paxton, absolutely no upside over Leach, how sad and disgusting, that took the cake right there.

In closing, at this point of the season we are bad. As Parcells always said you are what your record is, we are 2-4, we are below mediocre. But we do have all our division games yet to be played so not all is lost, we still have time to win this division but the luxury of losing has slowly gone out the window. This 3 game stretch coming up will tell us all we need to know, whether we are still a bad team, a mediocre one or building up to be a good one. At least McD has now opened it up, one can always hope for the best. But don’t fool yourselves, this will be a tough loss for the players, this is not a good loss, a good loss is when you lose by bunches, when you had no shot, this is the kind of loss that stings real bad, the ones that you should of had, the ones lost at the end of the game, the ones that you let get away.

Good teams find ways to win, bad teams find ways to lose, and there is no way around that today, yesterday we found every imaginable way to lose this one, the sign of a bad team, for now.

Hopefully the troops find it in themselves to get up for the Raiders next week, because it’s too early for the fat lady to start singing, LOL.
