Broncos vs. Jets: Gameday Coverage

November 17th, 2011 - 9:10pm by Kenny Legan

PREGAME:

We’re up and running here at Sports Authority Field at Mile High getting ready for the Thursday night showdown between the Broncos and the Jets.

It’s a bit windy now and temperatures are expected to be in the mid-40s at game time.

Several Broncos have taken the field and are warming up. Offensive linemen J.D. Walton and Zane Beadles had a spirited punting and throwing competition a little while ago — they hit the crossbar from 25-yards out on a throw four times in a row — as they were the first players on the field, but it’s all business now with the game less than two hours away.

BRONCOS VS JETS GAMECENTER: For play-by-play action and up-to-the-minute stats, check out the Broncos gamecenter. We’ll keep you updated here with scoring plays, drive recaps and all the fun bits and pieces you can’t get from looking at a box score.

BRONCOS ON TWITTER: Another option is to follow the @Denver_Broncos Twitter account. There are constant updates on there throughout the game. You don’t have to be on Twitter to read the posts, but if you are, you should follow the account for news throughout the week as well.

SALUTE TO SERVICE: The Broncos are honoring the United States Military tonight. Before the game, the team will honor the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Wounded Warriors and Military Order of the Purple Heart on the field with game balls from former Broncos players Billy Thompson, Randy Gradishar and Simon Fletcher. Three members of the Tuskegee Airmen will be honored in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Navy Seal Jon Cummings will serve as an honorary game captain and join the team captains for the coin toss.

BRONCOS AND JETS INACTIVES: Here are the inactive players for tonight’s game. Broncos running back Willis McGahee — who is listed as questionable for the game — is not on the list, which means he is active and eligible to play.

PREGAME PHOTOS: Here are some pregame photos of the Broncos warming up, courtesy of photographers Eric Lars Bakke and Gabriel Christus.

COIN TOSS: Navy Seal Jon Cummings is serving as an honorary game captain and joins the team captains for the coin toss at midfield. The Jets call tails and defer to the second half, meaning the Broncos will receive the opening kickoff.

BRONCOS STARTERS: The Broncos opened the game with a five-wide set with running back Willis McGahee lined up out wide with receivers Decker, Thomas and Royal as well as tight end Daniel Fells.

MILLER, DUMERVIL COMBINE FOR SACK: For the third consecutive game, linebacker Von Miller and defensive end Elvis Dumervil combined for a sack, forcing a three-and-out on the Jets opening drive.

PRATER GIVES BRONCOS EARLY LEAD: Matt Prater’s 37-yard field goal gives Denver a 3-0 lead with 5:08 left in the first quarter.

BRONCOS DEFENSE HOLDS: The Denver Broncos defense comes up big as the Jets miss a 52-yard field goal to keep the game at 3-0.

INJURY UPDATE: Jets running back Shonn Greene has a rib injury and is questionable to return.

JETS TIE THE GAME: Nick Folk connects on a 21-yard field goal to tie the game 3-3 with 12:08 remaining in the second quarter. After a three-and-out, the Jets get the ball back on their own 9-yard line.

BRONCOS-JETS TIED AT HALFTIME: The Broncos enter the locker room tied with the Jets at halftime 3-3. To read a recap of the half, as well as audio highlights, click here.

JETS TAKE THE LEAD: The Jets have taken the lead, 10-3, thanks to a fumble recovery in the end zone by offensive lineman Matt Slauson.

GOODMAN’S PICK-6 TIES THE GAME: On third-and-6 on the Jets 25-yard line, cornerback Andre’ Goodman jumps a route on a pass intended for Plaxico Burress and returns the interception for a touchdown to tie the game at 10. On the ensuing kickoff, Woodyard knocks the ball loose from Joe McKnight and Cassius Vaughn recovers it, giving the Broncos the ball on the Jets 43-yard line.

FIRST HALF PHOTOS: Check out photos from Eric Lars Bakke, Ben Hays and Gabriel Christus for first-half action of the Broncos and Jets.

THIRD QUARTER SUMMARY: The Broncos and Jets both scored touchdowns in the third quarter as the game is knotted up at 10 heading into the fourth.

JETS RETAKE THE LEAD: Nick Folk’s 45-yard field goal gives the Jets the lead again at 13-10 with 9:14 left in the fourth quarter.

BRONCOS DRIVING LATE: On a drive that started on their own 5-yard line with 5:54 left in the fourth quarter, the Broncos now have the ball on third-and-4 on the Jets 20-yard line with 1:23 remaining.

TEBOW GIVES BRONCOS THE LEAD: On third-and-4 from the Jets 20-yard line, Tebow scrambled out to his left off the snap, and saw nothing but open space as he ran into the end zone to give Denver a 17-13 lead with 1:06 left in the game.

BRONCOS DEFEAT JETS 17-13: Tim Tebow scored on a game-winning 20-yard touchdown run to push the Broncos to a 17-13 victory.

  30. broncos4everr says:

another heart stopping win tim needs to step it up more though were not gonna be able to keep winning like this forever we cant keep relying on our defense to save us and were definitely not gonna win any playoff games like this but right now i dont care WE WON

  32. marshisboss says:

  34. alexanserg says:

I love how fickle the talking heads are. They are literally chanting tebow 4 hours after giving him no chance to win.

  35. marshisboss says:

We needed that at home that is a big win

  36. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Just unreal!!! Man this is great, what a game!!!

  37. 1nOnlyTRB says:

To all the haters … yea you know who you are… on the year …

    Orton at the helm 1-4
    Tebow at the helm 4-1

makes you wonder what the season might have been like if he started don’t it? But everything happens for a reason … And he aint doing it by himself .. but MIller said it best int he post game interview … WE BELEIVE IN TEBOW. Everyones game has risen since he started playing.

Orton lovers have officially been TEBOWNED

Miller is a star. Colquit is a star. Elvis back in form. This defense is saving our hiney … when a team wins games with low scoring … its because the defense is doing work.

Hats of to the Defense and Special teams … the unsung heroes like prater. You guys rock. Broncos rock.

Big game next week. We need divisional wins.

Glory isn’t giving … its taking.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!

  38. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Forced fumbles. great defensive stands. great return game. great punts. Fumble on KR … man the Defensive and Special teams unit is the SHIZZZ. Not to mention pick 6 and sacks galore … LOVE it … Way to go ALLEN

  39. alexanserg says:

OMG the talking head are giving TT R I M jobs right now. LOL

  40. alexanserg says:

the talking heads got skull tebowned.

  41. canadasbroncfan says:

started off passing looked good went into a deadspot for a while but the defence still belived they can win when it looked bad. THAT IS THE TEBOW DIFFERENCE. Only Elway had that with the t eam. That cant be discounted. He makkes the whole organization better.

  42. broncosmex says:

    PLAYOFFS?! lol

  43. alexanserg says:

Michael irving 5 hours ago: “I’d be really mad.”

    MI Now: “You’re amasing tebow.”

Sterling Sharp 4 hours ago: “TT cant get it done against this great Jets team.”

    SS now: “You’re amazing Tebow.”

The talking heads 4 hours ago: “The jets are definitely gonna win.”

    TH now: “Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!”

    LOL. It’s laughable.

  44. marshisboss says:

Every analyst on set tonight just said they believe in Tebow oh what winning can do

  45. Greatness007 says:

I know no one wants to hear this right now. We should all thank Josh McDaniels for giving us a real winner. He had alot of balls that hit WR’s hands. I think Tim throws harder than we think sometimes.

VON MILLER is a BEAST forreal. I think Von hits QB’s like that when he sees Tim get hit hard. It’s like our D is saying you hit ours. We gonna knock yours out of the game. Last week they made Cassel tap. This week Sanchez almost tapped. lol

  46. alexanserg says:

It’d Ironic that the “reach” at qb was a black mark on McD, but if he had just started TT from the first game, He would probably still be the head coach here,

    Tebow! Tebow! Tebow!

  47. Greatness007 says:

Alexanserg McDaniels tried to start Tebow. After the draft McD was gonna trade Kyle. Pat stop the trade talks and wanted Kyle to stay after the yr Kyle had. So It was on Pat. I understand though. We just got over the Jay thing. Then we do it again?? Least we got a better D out of it lmao

  48. Greatness007 says:

Espn was tryna get Merril Hoge to speak about the game. Scott van Pelt said he was not available for comment. lmao

  49. alexanserg says:

Merril Hoge looks like the biggest D8888ss in the media tonight. I can’t imagine anyone would ever take him seriously again. Just like he couldn’t imagine we could win with TT.

  50. Greatness007 says:

All you people that wanted a QB drafted in this up coming draft. It is not gonna happen. Elway has said after the season he will sit down with Tim Tebow. Really taking him under his wing and teaching him what he knows about the position. John said the reason he is not doing now. He wants Tim to have one voice in his head and thats of the coaching staff.
