Broncos vs. Jets: Fourth Quarter Notes

November 30th, 2008 - 1:16pm by Kyle Sonneman

15:00 We start the final frame with the Jets having the ball at their 36-yard line, first-and-10. Dewayne Robertson puts down his former teammate Thomas Jones for a short carry on first down. Favre rolls out of the pocket on second down and throws the ball away. Third-and-eight… Favre stands tall in the pocket and hits Chansi Stuckey for the first down at midfield. Another Bronco is down, this time Marquand Manuel.

Manuel made the big hit on Stuckey, but he seems to have gotten the worst of the hit.

14:01 First-and-ten at the Broncos 46-yard line. Josh Barrett has replace Manuel. First down bubble-screen to Stuckey nets the Jets seven yards. Favre hands to Jones on second down, but he is met by Wesley Woodyard. Third-and-three… the ball skips incomplete to Jerricho Cotchery.

Fourth down and the Jets are going for it. Favre goes deep, but Cotchery can’t make the grab. Nice play by Karl Paymah to knock the ball away as they were coming down. Broncos ball at their 40-yard line.

Good news, Falcons have beat the Chargers 22-16.

12:10 After a reception by Scheffler for nine yards, Hillis picks up the first down inside Jets territory. That carry puts Hillis over 100 yards.

10:30 Back-to-back carries by Hillis and the Broncos are facing a third-and-two. Tatum Bell is in and stands to the left of Cutler. Cutler rolls and hits a wide open Brandon Stokley for a touchdown. Great play call and great pass by Cutler as he rolled right and found Stokley from 36-yards out. Prater nails the point after and the Broncos have doubled up the Jets.

Broncos 34 – Jets 17, 9:26 remaining.

9:21 Jets will start their drive at their own 40-yard line. A short gain, two incompletions and it is fourth down. On comes the punt unit. Royal is back deep for the Broncos.

8:30: Broncos start at the 15-yard line. Expect to see a lot of Hillis as the Broncos try to close this one out. In fact, he takes the first carry for five yards and the second carry for three. Third-and-two… delayed blitz by the Jets and the ball falls short. Out comes Kern.

6:53: Another nice kick by Kern, Washington waves it off, but then fields it. Broncos don’t fall for it, and stop Washington at the 34-yard line.

6:43: First down and Favre goes deep. Looks for Laveranues Coles but Josh Bell is there to knock it away. Jets are facing a third-and-three after a short completion to Washington. Nevermind, the referees call a late penalty on Paymah and the Jets have a first down.

5:40: Jets are moving the ball down the field and have the ball at the Broncos 35-yard line. Favre hits Coles who gets the first down. Jets are in the hurry up.

5:00: Favre fires for the endzone, but Bell and Vernon Fox are there to knock it away. Second down at the 30, and the Jets start a little fast and are flagged. Second-and-15… Favre shows off the gun and hits Keller, who may have to have the ball surgically removed from his chest. Third down and Favre hits Keller again for a first down.

3:50: Brad Smith takes the bubble-screen to the two-yard line. Hurry up offense, but another Bronco is down. It is Barrett… these injuries are getting old. Hopefully they are nothing serious. Barrett is up and walks off the field. Speaking of injuries, Ekuban is back in.

3:31: Favre fires in the endzone for Keller, but it is knocked away by Winborn. Second-and-goal, Favre in the gun and throws quick to Coles. But he is tackled just as quick by Bly. Third-and-goal and Favre throws it away.

2:48: Jets go for it on fourth down… Favre fires but Bell knocks it away and the Broncos take over. Nice job by the defense.

2:36: Hillis carries several Jets and gets the first down. That will probably take us to the two-minute warning… and it does. Two minutes until the Broncos go 7-5 and take a three game lead in the AFC West.

2:00: Ahhh my favorite play in football. Victory formation.

The clock will run out on this one. The Broncos fight the weather and arguably the hottest team in football and come away with a huge 34-17 win. They move to 7-5 and are three games up on the Chargers.

Talk to you all next week.

  35. breathingorangeandblue says:

Yay!! This game was GREAT!! Take that doubters! Broncos ain’t out of it yet!

  36. joypad says:

This is it! Time for victory formation soon…

  37. navy_bronco_fan says:

Wow. GREAT WIN! To go on the road, in bad weather conditions, and beat a Jets team that was one of the hottest teams in football! Just goes to show that if the Broncos can get healthy and win the West (which looks pretty good after today) that they could be a very dangerous team in the playoffs this year! GO BRONCOS!!!

  38. Chemaster says:

Great D – at least in the red zone. However. today I like the running game best. Play calling all season long appeared to lack confidence in runners or run blocking. Today, it worked! Who would have thought, that 7-5 was enough for a healthy lead over SD.

  39. 07elway says:

    7-5 never looked so good!!!!!!

Great job Denver. Keep it coming, starting next week against KC.
I’ll be there – should be awesome as usual.

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!

  40. KC_BroncosFan06 says:

What a much needed Win!! Props to the whole team…they all played great and got the outcome they deserved! 7-5 and #1 in AFC West with a comfortable 3 game lead…loves it!! Go Broncos!!

  41. Bones1965 says:

Josh Bell For President. It is amazing that the team finds free agent rookies and how Does Wesley Woodyard not start the rest of the way.

PUT DJ BACK IN THE MIDDLE AND KEEP STARTING WINBORN AND WOODYARD….

  42. 1ArabianKnight says:

    OK
what do ya know, the intelligence to ‘fake an injury’ just to “stop the momentum” on an attempt to do a Hurry up Offense by Bret Farve with 4min left in the 4th quarter……”that was The Dagger, and delivered…. by the Defense”.

    Way to go Barrett,

Ladies and Gentleman we have “SMART SAFETY” in Josh Barret as well as Athleticly Fast.
I’ve always said i am a fair person, and for all the commentary that I’ve said of him…not so much as negative but reserved…then let me be The First to say as I see…and stand behind my word.

“This Kid will Serve our team, Very Well, given some time,” and i’m glad we got’em.

Way to Go Barret, way to maximize productivity, and quietly deliver the defensive dagger!!!!!

As I said before, Jets, Carolina and Buffalo…one down 3 or 4 more to go, and it’s gonna place us for a good seed for the Playoffs”!

  43. monodono says:

HILLIS IS THE BEAST! Chemaster your right, the O Coaches have often paniced and abandonned the running game, and there some times have been a lack of confidence, like some one just said they” would not like to see the ball slipping out of Fum-Bell’s hands.”
RUN THE BALL ON FIRST DOWN!
    GO BRONCOS! ! !

OH YA TIME OF POSSESSION !

  44. bones1965 says:

Josh Bell for President. You have to give the Broncos credit for finding Woodyard and Bell.

Start DJ Williams at Middle, Woodyard and Winborn.

  45. Gami3it says:

Man great win. Bell has really stepped up. Rush defense is still horrible but as long as we find a way to win…no problem. Do you see how we tend to beat good/great teams and lose to avg teams/ sucky teams like raiders, KC, Jags, and Miami…..

From the folks I see going to the Superbowl….I think our skills are well matched against thiers. I only fear the PITS cuz of that D and all round plays and the colts because of history….other than that, If this team keeps improving….the Superbowl is ours for the taking…all we can do is pray for consistency….GO BRONCOS

  46. go cutler says:

this is the biggest win we have had all year who wants to say this team has no leadership i think jay played his best all arond game today and what about hillis he was awesome lets not hear anymore about the defense they played great proud to be a bronco fan go broncos

  47. broncos20 says:

    I noticed our O-line didn’t allow a sack…Great Job..
OK. Jenkins who??Critics said Jenkins would keep our running game at bay…
I guess Hillis wasnt watching the media…..ahaha..good job!

  48. Gami3it says:

would I be too greedy to ask for us to win the rest of our games and all the other divisional leaders lose thiers so that we can be one of the top 2 seeds in the AFC(like we should have been from start) so we dont gotta play any stinking wild card battle….greed is good sometimes lol

  49. 07elway says:

Soooooooo glad San Diego lost – haha we’re up 3 games.
Things are starting to go our way my friends!! – Except those injuries. That’s just unbelievable how many injuries we had, I just can’t fathom it all. But I bet ya anything we get Champ back so that alone will ease my mind a little.

Have faith and keep believing Broncos Country…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!

  50. buckeyebronco says:

Just like this year’s Bronco team, lose to KC & the Raiders, beat Tampa, Atlanta & the Jets!!! These guys are gonna give me a heart attack! Let’s hope they stay focused for next week. Great win on the road, nice to pay Favre back for last year’s Monday night meltdown.
