HALFTIME: The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders have lined up in a No. 44 formation as the team honors Floyd Little with the presentation of his Hall of Fame ring. Little highlights flash over the giant Thundervision screens, and Little is on the field to receive the honor. Check back soon for coverage of the second half.
Q3 15:00: Eddie Royal is lined up deep to receive Pat McAfee’s kickoff, and he kneels the ball for a touchback. Kyle Orton lines up under center, and he’s sacked by Robert Mathis before he can get off the pass. On second-and-16, Orton completes a pass to Lloyd for 17-yards and a first down.
Q3 15:00:
Q3 13:30: On first-and-10 from the 33-yard line, Laurence Maroney takes a handoff for a one yard gain. On the following play, Dan Gronkowski catches a two-yard pass from Orton, and Demaryius Thomas connects with Orton on a 16-yard completion on third-down.

COLTS 13 – BRONCOS 10
Q3 11:13: Devin Moore receives Matt Prater’s kickoff and kneels it for a touchback. Peyton Manning sets up under center and hands off to Joseph Addai, who carries up the left side for a 3-yard gain before he’s stopped by Justin Bannan and Jamal Williams. On the following play, Perrish Cox steps in front of Blair White to deflect a pass from Manning, and the Colts face third-and-7. Manning takes the shotgun snap and finds Addai underneath, but D.J. Williams brings down the running back 1 yard short of the first down. McAfee sets up to punt with Royal deep to receive.
Q3 9:59: Royal returns the 61-yard punt close to midfield, but the Broncos are called for holding and will take the field at the 28-yard line. Orton takes the first down snap under center and fires a comeback-route pass to Brandon Lloyd, who leaps to make the catch but can’t come down with it.
Q3 9:53: Dan Gronkowski can’t haul in Orton’s pass on second-and-10, and the Broncos face third-and-long. Orton takes the snap out of the shot gun formation and launches a pass to Lloyd, but Antoine Bethea breaks up the pass. Britton Colquitt comes out to punt.
Q3 9:35: Colquitt’s 55 yard punt sails into the hands of Jerraud Powers, and Cassius Vaughn sprints down the field to make the tackle at the Colts’ 21-yard line.
Q3 9:31: On first-and-10, Manning lines up under center, fakes to Addai, and completes a pass to Austin Collie, who’s tackled by Brian Dawkins after a 22-yard gain. On the new set of downs, Manning looks for Collie again, but Champ Bailey is in perfect position to deflect the pass. The Colts are called for holding and moved back to the 33-yard line.
Q3 8:58: Manning throws a screen pass to Collie on first-and-20, and Collie finds a seam upfield for a 27 yards. Manning throws to Brody Eldrige on the following play, and the ball bounces off the tight end’s hands, but the Renaldo Hill can’t catch the interception off the deflection. On second down Manning finds Dallas Clark for a 4-yard gain, setting up third-and-6. The quarterback changes the call at the line of scrimmage and finds Collie, who’s stopped by Nate Jones after an 8-yard completion.
Q3 6:47: Joseph Addai carries the ball on first down for a 1-yard gain before he’s tackled by Robert Ayers and Kevin Vickerson. On the following play, Vickerson pressures Manning into an incomplete pass, and on third-and-9 Manning takes the shotgun snap, fakes the draw, and completes a 13-yard pass to Reggie Wayne before Champ Bailey makes the shoestring tackle.
Q3 5:35: Manning completes a five-yard pass to Austin Collie on first down from the 14-yard line and throws a touchdown to Blair White on the next play. Vinatieri converts the kick and puts the Colts up by 10 points.
COLTS 20 – BRONCOS 10
Q3 4:51: Eddie Royal sets up deep to receive the kickoff from McAfee, and he lets it bounce out of the back of the end zone for a touchback. Orton pitches to Maroney on the right side for a 2-yard run on first-and-10 from the 20-yard line. Orton fakes left, rolls right, and chucks it deep for Brandon Lloyd. The receiver makes the grab and runs the ball down to the Colts’ 17-yard line for a 61-yard catch.
Q3 3:17: With a new set of downs, Orton looks to pass but can’t complete the throw to Demaryius Thomas. He can’t complete a second-down pass either, but finds Eddie Royal for a 1-yard completion on third-down. Faced with fourth-and-9, Matt Prater sets up for a 34-yard field goal, and his kick stays true.
COLTS 20 – BRONCOS 13
Q3 2:24: Matt Prater boots the ball into the end zone for a touchback, and Addai carries for no gain on first down. The Colts are called for holding and get pushed back to the 10-yard line for first-and-20. Collie catches a quick slant pass for 10 yards, and the Colts are back where they started with 2nd-and-10. Manning sets up in the shotgun, changes the play call at the line and fires a screen pass to Reggie Wayne, who gains 7 yards before he’s tackled by Brian Dawkins. On third-and-short, Manning calls another audible and throws a quick pass to Collie, but Nate Jones is there to stop him 2 yards short of the first down. McAfee is out to punt as we enter the fourth quarter.
Q4 15:00: Eddie Royal catches McAfee’s 47-yard punt at the 25-yard line and returns it 3 yards to the 28-yard line. Orton fakes a handoff to Maroney on the left side, rolls right and throws the ball away. The quarterback lines up under center and gives the ball to Maroney for a 5-yard run. Facing third-and-5, Orton drops back and squeezes in a pass to Brandon Lloyd for 7 yards and a first down at the 41-yard line.
Q4 13:32: On first-and-10, Melvin Bullitt tries to scoop an Orton pass off the ground, but it’s ruled incomplete. Denver is called for holding, and the Broncos face first-and-20 from their own 31-yard line.
Q4 13:22: Orton drops back and connects with Correll Buckhalter for a 5 yard pass. The quarterback lines up in the shotgun and dumps off a screen to Buckhalter on the following play that results in 8 more yards. On third-and-7, Orton scrambles to buy time, finds no one in front of him and runs 9 yards for a first down.
Q4 11:20: With a fresh set of downs, Orton completes a pass to Jabar Gaffney for no gain. On second-and-10, Orton has plenty of time to pass, but no one gets open. He hits his checkdown receiver, Laurence Maroney, who makes a couple of nice moves and advances the ball to the Colts’ 19-yard line for a 28-yard gain.
Q4 10:15: Orton takes the snap under center and hands off to Correll Buckhalter, who runs for 3 yards. The signal caller throws out of Demaryius Thomas’ reach on the next play, and hits Jabar Gaffney on third down 3 yards short of the first down. The Broncos are going for it on fourth-and-3, but Orton’s pass is incomplete and Denver turns the ball over on downs.
Q4 8:42: Manning takes over at the Colts’ 12-yard line and hands off to Addai. Kevin Vickerson and Brian Dawkins stop the draw play after a 3-yard gain, and Manning completes a 7-yard pass to Dallas Clark before he’s tackled by Darcel McBath.
Q4 7:39: Manning attempts a pass to Austin Collie on first down, but Perrish Cox is in good position to deflect it. Manning looks for Collie on the next play, but he can’t complete the pass. The Colts are called for a false start and pushed back 10 yards to the 17-yard line. Indianapolis faces third-and-15, and Manning completes a deep pass to Collie for a 48-yard gain.
Q4 6:44: Manning finds Dallas Clark on first down, and Nate Jones takes down the tight end after a 1-yard completion. Joseph Addai takes the handoff on second down and runs for 10 yards and a first down.
Q4 5:20: Manning hands off to Addai again, but Kevin Vickerson makes the diving tackle to stop the back after a 1-yard gain. On second-and-9, Manning targets Collie in the end zone, and the receiver comes down with the football for a touchdown. The extra point is good, and the Colts lead by two touchdowns.
COLTS 27 – BRONCOS 13
Q4 4:26: Eddie Royal watches as McAfee’s kickoff sails out of the end zone for a touchback. Orton sets up in the shotgun and completes a quick comeback pass to Gaffney for 6-yards. The Broncos hurry to the line and run the same play, this time completing the pass for 5-yards. On first-and-10, Buckhalter reels in a 4-yard pass, and then the quarterback finds Eddie Royal for 18-yards.
Q4 3:01: Daniel Graham catches a pass for no gain, and then he fumbles out of bounds for a 4-yard loss. The second-down pass is incomplete, and Orton finds Buckhalter for a 5-yard gain on third down. Facing fourth-and-9 from the 46-yard line, Orton takes the shotgun snap and completes a pass to Matthew Willis over the middle for 17-yards.
Q4 2:16: Orton completes a 12-yard pass to Laurence Maroney, and his next pass falls incomplete as we reach the two-minute warning.
Q4 1:58: Facing 2nd-and-10 from the 17-yard line, Orton takes the shotgun snap and fires a pass to Eddie Royal, who can’t come down with the ball in traffic. On third down, the Broncos are called for false start and now face a third-and-15 from the 22-yard line. Orton throws a screen to Buckhalter for 2 yards, and the Broncos call a timeout.
Q4 1:31: Facing fourth-and-14 from the 20-yard line, Orton launches a pass to Demaryius Thomas in the end zone. Thomas appears to have the catch, but he can’t come down with it between two Colts’ defenders and the Broncos turn the ball over on downs.
Q4 1:30: Donald Brown rushes for 6 yards, and Denver calls its second timeout. On second-and-4 from the 26-yard line, Manning hands off to Brown for no gain.
Q4 1:26: The Broncos have called their last timeout. D.J. Williams and Jason Hunter stopped Addai for no gain, and Royal is deep to receive a punt from McAfee.
Q4 0:38: Indianapolis ran the clock down as far as the team could and called a timeout. McAfee punts a high, hanging football for Royal, who returns it 16 yards to Denver’s 47-yard line.
Q4 0:23: Jabar Gaffney catches a 14-yard pass from Orton, and then catches another ball as the clock runs out. That’s the end of the ball game.

BRONCOS 13
COLTS 27
Official results of the score predictions for this week:
Unfortunately the 75% of Bronco fans here who picked us to win were wrong, but for the 25% of us who didn’t think we could pull this one out, kudos to you all, not that it’s glamorous to be right when we lose, but it’s better than nothing, losing is awful, half way expecting it makes it a little easier. Anyhow, we do have a winner for the week and even so he was not close to a perfect score, he missed it by the least amount of points.
1st place and champion guesser for the week:
ikiratuki 17-30, off 7 points, congrats buddy, I remember you getting on the wall of shame last year but I know you never climbed to the top of the podium yet, good job anticipating the outcome.
2nd place:
footbalMANIAC 17-31, off 8 points, and not only that but he is the only one to have guessed the correct spread Colts winning by 14, way to go MANIAC.
3 way tie for 3rd place:
BeastFromEast92, also known as BFE 21-31, off 12 points
UKBroncos, our overseas representative 21-31, off 12 points
Baylinorcrush, yours truly, 24-28, off 12 points also.
There are only a couple honorable mentions to go around this week:
Guessing the correct Colts score:
danso 30-27
broncosmex 35-27
No one guessed the correct Bronco score, every single one of the 35 picks had a higher Bronco total….
And, as for every week we need to put someone up on the wall of shame, and this week is no contest, it goes to:
ddk002 who picked our Broncos to beat the Colts by 20 points!!!
34-14, absolute lack of respect for Peyton Manning, live and learn, LOL, and better luck next week.
Score picks for the Titans game can be placed anytime starting tomorrow through Saturday, no picks on game day, if you didn’t already know the drill.
can i post now
bay if only we would’ve capitalized all that trips to the endzone.. maybe the score for the broncos would’ve been 35 as i said lol
You’re talking 3 TD’s and a two point conversion to get from 13 to 35, aren’t you reaching just a bit, LOL, just be glad you got the Colts score right that’s better than most.
wow! did anyone see what Hillis did today? that guy is a BEAST running back… we sure could use him right about.. today…
The fact is that the Bronco Defense is really pretty good…
It’s the Offense thats the problem with this team. It was the problem all year last year and continues to be weak….
I put out a challenge for the McDOrton Duo to put up big numbers in points last week and they did great. This week is back to square one… they need to score 30 pts each game to be contenters…
It doesn’t matter if we get a thousand yards in offense if we don’t score in the red zone… We sure coulda used Moreno today….
oh well, Better luck next week Broncos…
KEEP THE DRIVE ALIVE!!!
ILMSDB!! W or L!
Let’s put it this way, if Thomas makes that catch for a TD at the end, I win this thing straight out, so I was definitely a bit bummed about that, but I’ll gladly take third place, it’s pretty darn hard, 35 picks this time around.
Last week our run average with Moreno in there was 1.7 yard per carry, this week with Maroney in there it was 2.6, we are improving without Moreno, LOL.
ok dont get mad at me =( .. lol wut im just saying if we would have scored all of our redzone opportunities.. maybe there was a chance at winning that game..
It’s the turnovers that killed us, I said all week the only way we’d have a chance at winning this game was winning the turnover battle, that didn’t happen we turned it over twice, they didn’t turn it over at all, and they win by two scores, one score per turnover, makes perfect sense to me.
And of course it would help if we could score from the one, but since we couldn’t do that either last year, I’m not putting too much faith into it, at least not until our backs and O line are healthy and the rookies on the O line gel, that could be a while. The O line was the biggest question mark to me for this year as many of you guys know, so it is what it is, no big surprise that we are struggling with the running game, but the O line did protect Orton well today, I was pleasantly surprised by that.
i just have a hard time getting over this game, we are really a good team but ijust dont understand why we can not score from the red zone.all last year and now this, we SHOULD have won this game
My rambling thoughts on the game (and other things):
I’m still amazed by our receiving corps. And Orton, I think he may now be the NFL’s leading passer. Maroney looked okay, but I saw him dance at the line of scrimmage a couple of times. The secondary was amazing. We have a gem in Cox. If we’d scored TDs on both of the 4th down conversions (or even just one of them) it could have been an entirely different ball game. Get Cox out of returning duties and in on defense. Champ is still one of (if not THE) best CBs in the NFL. I liked the gameplan, it worked well until the end. Is anybody watching the Miami-New York game? Marshall doesn’t seem like himself. Somebody mentioned he got an IV. What for? Demarius Thomas brings a very nice skill set to the table. The O-line looked good. It will be even better when Harris is back. I was delighted to see San Diego and Oakland lose. At least neither of them has a better record. Who would have though Kansas City would sit atop the AFC West? I REALLY wish we still had Hillis. With him and Moreno we would have an excellent RB combo. Actually, we might not even need Moreno if we had Hillis. Games like this make me wish we had Dumervil. He would have provided the extra push we needed to get to Manning. We were close a couple of times. I still say give McDaniels another year after this one. He’s finally getting his system worked out. He just needs to figure out the redzone thing. I like our offense better when we take downfield shots, though. Not as much of the sideways crap. I get enough of that from my Montana Grizzlies (who are, pathetically, 2-2 when they should be 4-0 if they wouldn’t repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot). All in all, the game was closer than the score, we just couldn’t pull it together.
The Broncos biggest issue is the lack of the running game and not finishing drives. When they watch film they will see the errors of their ways on offense. Some hurried passes by Orton on 4th down passes when only needing few yards to convert.
I am overall impressed with our team, however it is absolutely crucial to get better in the running game to take the pressure off of Orton and the receivers. Kyle Orton and the offensive line just keep getting better and if the RB’s we have were better so would the offense.
Defense looks to be getting better, this was a good performance by them, tackling well, covering as good as could be expected. This loss, if there has to be blame, is on the offense and 1 special teams blunder.
Colts took advantage of the Broncos mistakes accounting for 10 points. Luckily it was not 14 points. Without those blunders its a 4 point difference. A team cannot make those mistakes and not atone for them.
Next Stop TENNESSEE. GO BRONCOS!!!!!
Cox is gonna be a great Corner, but he did get burned for 2 scores, wished Goody could have been in there, but the turnovers and failing to convert in the red zone is the reason we lost, runD looked great. If we could get a halfway descent running game going,Hell we could keep pace with any team in the NFL,but like Baylin said,we need to get healthy and jell on the Oline, then we’ll be able to turn it up a notch.IMO
At least the Raiders and Chargers both lost too.KC is 3-0,haha,be funny if they won the West this year.
This one is easy, plain and simple we beat ourselves! Can’t blame coaching on this one. They had a great game plan in place we just didn’t execute. Four turnovers, and two turn overs on downs inside the redzone, equals six turnovers. You can’t give sparkly gift wraped packages with ice cream and cake on the side to Peyton and expect to win. However, if not for shooting ourselves in the foot, I saw a team with incredable potential. Cut down the turnovers, and we will beat Tennesse.
Go Broncos!!
Two things…I understand being positive even though during this current regime I have not been so often, but, we r going to have to get used to losses like this with McD. We do not (at this point) have guys who r prepared to play at a high level in the NFL. We don’t have the stars it takes to win. We got rid of them. The NFL is won with talent, not character. Marshall 10 166 TD, Sheffler 7 catches TD and seeing Hillis against BALTIMORE…uggggh. We have a group of guys that can perform 20 to 20 but stars and talent are able to get the ball into the zone. Could u actually believe Maronry started! A week in the fold? What does that say to Buck. He says he would go for touchdowns against them again…but if he would have kicked fg we would have been down 20-19 with a chance to go up with a FG. The defense is horrible. We got shredded by Collie and a guy off the practice squad!!! We didn’t even get dirt on Manning’s jersey. Just some observations, would appreciate someone showing me where I am wrong. PLEASE
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
The Good
On Offense:
Orton, obviously when you make 37 completions for 476 yds, you are doing a lot of good things and he did and I’ll sum it with that one 48 yd pass to Lloyd for a TD at the beginning of the second half. If you take a good look that ball traveled about 55 yds in the air and got there perfectly, putting to rest forever the argument that Orton can’t throw long and on the money.
Lloyd, 169 yds in only 6 catches, phenomenal, Randy Moss at his best type of numbers.
Gaffney, an efficient catching machine with 12 catches for 140, producing a tandem of WR worth 309 yards!!!
Demaryius had only two catches but both big catches, even so he almost fumbled the one near the end zone, luck was on his side there.
Bucky is slowly getting better, but only in the passing game catching 6.
Obviously to get those kind of numbers, the O line did a very good job of protecting Orton, allowing only one sack to Mathis and zero to Freeney.
And Willis my man actually got on the field and made a big catch, need I say more, use the kid please.
On Defense:
Bailey covered Wayne like a blanket most game like only he can, and on a bad foot, great performance even so he got burned a couple times, but limiting Wayne to 4 catches is nothing short of phenomenal.
The double coverage on Clark worked wonders, I thought Clark would torch us, so did the Broncos hence the double team, only 5 catches, a pittance to him.
Renaldo played well and McBath’s return was felt.
The D line did a good job against the run, not sure how big an accomplishment it was since it was the Colts running game.
On ST:
Prater was perfect, the norm for him.
Other than one punt under 40 yds Colquitt punted great for a 46.3 yd average.
Royal had two great returns that didn’t count to no fault of his.
The Bad
On Offense:
Orton had 20 incompletions, not always on the money but not always his fault. He also still freezes up the closer he gets to the end zone, last year he froze all over the field, this year he has narrowed it down to the red zone, I guess a good thing, maybe next year he will have thawed out everywhere, LOL.
Demaryius, it is obvious that on a couple of plays he ran the wrong routes for Orton, mainly causing that INT because he stopped in the middle of the route rather than running through it the way Orton had expected it, that’s why it looked like an errant throw, but in my eye it was on Demaryius all the way. As I always said he will be a work in progress this year.
Maroney and Bucky running the ball, they only got 47 yards and had to get 11 from Orton to get that!!!!
That brings up the O line, obviously they have a huge say in that anemic production on the ground.
Graham, even so he made a couple of catches looked rusty to me, or could it be that age or mileage or both is catching up with him?
On Defense:
Not a single sack, even so Manning got pressured here and there.
The double coverage on Clark made it possible for Collie to be all world with 171 yards in receptions!!! With Manning it’s pick your poison, because like I say, he will make anyone look all world like even a rookie’s first game, that White kid who torched us for a TD.
Cox is total Jekyll and Hyde. I believe he will be good, just like DT but he is also a work in progress. He did make some great coverage plays, but also got burned bad multiple times, in the end the score tells us unfortunately it was more bad than good, and when Goodman was listed questionable to think some bloggers out here where saying I rather see Cox than Goodman anyway, right….. We missed Goodman big time.
We have no Linebacking play to speak off, unbelievable how inept we have been over the years at that position since Wilson. I mean the Steelers have basically 4 LB’s right now who make anyone one of ours look like pee-wee league, it’s embarrassing.
Nathan Jones is not playing well at all other than one good play I can remember.
On ST:
Cox’s turnover was inexcusable, nothing more I can add to that, other than an instant 7 points for their O. There was no pressure on him, the sun was not in his eyes, the ball was coming down perfect, and he blew it, real bad news here MR. Jekyll and Hyde.
The penalties on the two great returns by Royal simply killed any chance we had at momentum, huge disappoitment, and my man Willis committed one of those holdings…
The Ugly:
That’s easy: Can’t get in the end zone from the one, not once, not twice, not thrice, etc, etc… Well you get the point. Absolutely pathetic, it was like that all last year, different year same thing. Last year some people blamed it on the O line, this year they still do, but when we had a legitimate powerback on our roster with LenDale, guess what, that problem disappeared. Why? Because we need a legitimate powerback using a power blocking running scheme and McD failed us miserably in the off seaon by not addressing it until it was too little too late. How does that feel just about now McD? The fact that Hillis ran for a buck and a half against the Ravens of all teams makes you feel any better? Didn’t think so. In that reagrd Josh, you are no genius and you have hurt this team big time not addressing an obvious need that I screamed to the top of my lungs for all off season. And this was a good game for me to get it off my chest one more time.
Another Ugly: McD going for it on 4th down for the seond time, after it failed the first time he tried it, 2 easy FG’s for 6 points up in smoke. I understand it the first time going against the Colts, but the second time you fail the intelligence test.
But I’ll finish with a big plus, McD must of had some sort of counseling about his tantrums on the sidelines because he has acted up the part of a HC much better since the first game. Thanks McD for that, even so we lost I don’t have to be embarassed by the coach’s actions in the process.
Interestingly enough, Marshall, Scheffler and Hillis all lost too.
Fix the red zone execution and this team will be very, very dangerous! Tough loss for the boys, but I hope they understand that it was them beating themselves not the Colts beating them!
2 losses…I can live with that! Let’s get on a roll, convert in the redzone, get Cox from returning punts and on D…and all is good!
GO GET EM’ BOYS!
if you just look at the stats for KO you might think we won that game, and I have to admit KO played a good game, would sure be nice if we did not choke in the redzone…specially with 4 downs….more than once… not sure what is up with that, and losing the turnover game pretty much put us over the edge. But our D did drop Manning and for a while it looked like we could win this one. Sure looks like we have the players to make good things happen but we just need some points when we get in the zone, and to make matters worst KC is 3:0 what is up with that??? hoping we rally for the game with the Titans another tough game but I think we can take them. Maybe I’ll venture to guess a score and hope not to end up on bayin’s wall of shame
GO BRONCOS
I did end up on the wall of shame last year once, one of the low points in my life, LOL.
baylin we need get you on the sidelines maybe you can give McD some tips on winning some games. Beginning to think his micromanagement of the team on the field is not a winning strategy, we are looking more like the Pats every week (on the roster at least) and without the wins, problem is everyone knows that strategy—-time for McD to start using the talent he’s got to win some games, this choking in the redzone has got to stop, lets get it done and get on the board, or trade in our rookie coach for someone who can win some games …. just saying what we’re all thinking
Baylin you pretty much summed up about everything I was thinking.
Does anybody know why Tebow got demoted to 3rd string?????
Being 3rd string means he can’t come in on Wildhorses or any other plays as far as that goes…..WTF…..what gives..McD thinks Quinn is better???
We need to be able to run to win period….
Some teams like the Colts,Saints, and a few more can win by passing only, but not us.RUN,RUN,RUN is what we must do,thus the Oline and RBs need to get healthy.BTW..great job by the Oline on pass protecting, now if they could just run block we’d be riding high.IMO
BFE
Orton 37/57 476yds 1td 1 int,great #s,but 476yds and only 1 td,that’s almost 5 football fields of passing,POOR POOR POOR inside redzone,we should’ve scored at least 35 pts or more.
Not putting all the blame on the QB,but as a team that’s unexcusable, blame it on playcalling, failure to execute,or whatever,it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McD is a work in progress too, I don’t think the clock will start ticking for him until next year though (if he does poorly then), I would imagine Bowlen is like many of us thought about this year, anything much more than 500 would be unexpected and with all the injuries, even if we have a bad losing record he gets another year to show Bolwen what he can do, but next year it will be show up or shut up, just not this year, just my opinion.
Good thing if we do lose like the next 3 games, is McD will have no choice but to open it up since he will get closer to having nothing to lose. I’m not looking forward to being 1-5, but I do hope at one point in his young HC career he learns out to open up the playbook, and losing bunches might just be the way for him to get there, and long term it will make him a much better coach.
Right now he is and has been way to conservative, namely when it counts, on scoring opportunities in the red zone, he game plans it like he has a great D like the Pats did and that just isn’t the case, the D here cannot carry the O, the O has to take it, McD has to take it, and he is not doing that, he is playing it too close to the vest and all the other teams know it, so they are sticking it to us in close.
And by the way that’s exactly what the Titans excell at, shutting you down in the red zone, just like the Colts, so I’m not sure where this enthusiasm about us been able to beat the Titans next week comes from, it’s probably just a fan reaction is all.
Yeah BFE, I did all the work for you, LOL.
I’d be willing to bet that the reason McD made Quinn the back up yesterday over Tebow is because he was concerned that with Mathis and Freeney Orton might get hurt and Quinn is his man for now if Orton goes down, Tebow is just wildhorse material to him for now. Tha’s what I believe happened and I stick by it, LOL.
Good to see Woody getting in on the action about the lack of running game at the DP, talking about our 47 yards on the ground and inability to get a single yard multiple times over:
This is outrageous against the Colts, who arrived for the confrontation ranked 32nd in the league against the run. There are only 32 teams.
This is absurd when it’s realized the Broncos now play three teams — two on the road — that own excellent defenses. The Titans were No. 1 on defense overall even before limiting the Giants to 10 points Sunday. The defenses of the Ravens and the Jets need no introductions.
Yeah, 1-5 looks like the better odds right now.
Lots of good stuff from this guy Joe Chartier about how Mile High Stadium’s days are changing, not necessarily for the best for our team:
“The newer generation, they don’t stand like they used to. They’re not near as noisy,” said Joe Chartier, from Laird in the eastern plains, a south stands season-ticket holder the past 26 years. “People who stand now, once they come across the 50-yard line, a lot of times they get told to sit down. That never used to happen. People in the south stands used to stand the whole game, and it was something they took pride in.”
Ask players who played at Mile High, for and against the Broncos, and they quickly grow wistful.
“I tell you what, it was as loud as it gets in that place. As an opposing player, it was intimidating without question. Those people in the south stands were crazy — in a good way — for their team,” said Broncos radio play-by-play man Dave Logan, who played one year for the Broncos as a wide receiver but the rest of his career in Cleveland.
Said former Broncos quarterback Craig Morton: “Our locker room was right under the old south stands, and they got us fired up each and every game with their noise. When they started stomping their feet on those old metal stands, you knew it was time to play football.”
Something seems out of place
Dotted throughout the south stands in Sunday’s 27-13 Broncos loss to the Indianapolis Colts was something old-timers say you never used to see: jerseys of the opposing team. Numerous No. 18 Peyton Manning jerseys could be spotted frequently, and while that can be partially explained because of his immense stardom, old-time south stands fans say enemy laundry was unheard of in their day. If anybody was brave enough to wear some, they often were made to regret it.
“They’d get abused pretty bad. Lots of popcorn and other stuff thrown on them. You just didn’t sit in the south stands in the other team’s jersey and get away with it,” Chartier said. “Now, if you say anything, security is on top of you right away. You don’t want fights or violence, but now you see way too many fans from other cities sitting in here. When they played Pittsburgh here last year, it was like a home game for the Steelers.”
haaa, the good old days, glad I’m old enough that I was part of it, we will never get that back, I feel sorry for today’s fans who were treated to a polite half way loud crowd who departed early yesterday, all oxymorons in the old stadium.
What I hoped for was a performance by the Broncos that didn’t embarass us. What we got instead was a peek into how close the Broncos are to taking their place among the elite. I feel that they didn’t paly as good as the Colts, they played better except for two critical plays that gave the Colts 10 points.
Game changing plays:
Broncos: Fumbled punt = 3 points for Colts
Broncos: Interception = 7 pints for Colts
Broncos: making 3rd and 11 = points
Broncos: Failing on 4th dowqn = 0 points (Still think it was the right call, but a roll out would have been a better play.
Broncos: Thomas catch = 7 points
Colts Collie (sp?) catch on 1st and 20 = 7 points
Colts: making 3rd and 15 in the 4th quarter = 7 poiints
Report card
OFFENSE
QB: B- Way to many passes falling short of wide open receiver.
RB: C- Maroney showed flashes, but goal line runs output stunk!
OL: B- Considering the limited time spent together as a unit and that our starting Ol stiill hasn’t played a as of yet this year, they did a better than expected job of controlling the rush.
WR: A-
ST
Kick return: F Penalries were killers.
DEFENSE
DL C Still no pash rush
LB C- Nobody stood out.
SECONDARY B- Rookie mistakess by Cox, but they really kept Manning in check.
Wow. I can’t believe I’m the champion guesser of the week. Just because you’ve been on the wall of shame doesn’t mean you can’t be a champion lol. I was happy to see Orton have a great game but the running just wasn’t there. Who did we get for Hillis? We might need to hire an O. coordinator that is more of a RB friendly guy. This week our pass defense got tested next our run defense. Can’t wait till then.
From rags to riches, LOL.
Quinn, Brady Quinn, that’s who we got for Hillis, I can still hear the laughter of the Cleveland fans when we completed that trade….
Cleveland sucks but at least now they have a running game.
Anyone know if Harris will be back for the Titans?
Again, I liked a lot of what I saw yesterday. Quite impressive in many phases (particularly pass pro).
Look at the turnovers for the first 3 games and it gives you the W/L’s. If we’d been even on turnovers all 3 games and on bonehead penalties I think we’d be 3-0 right now.
The “experts” on UK TV think that we’ll be very good next year – they must listen to Baylin!
On paper, it looks like next year is the year it needs to start clicking on all cylinders, and if it doesn’t time will have come to get a new engine (HC). Always thought 2011 should be the year, at least the first of many back into the winning records and playoff competiting years I hope, this year just isn’t all that, just too many “ifs” everywhere.
I mean after every defeat so far all the positive fans here are doing is saying if this, if that, we would be great, and don’t get me wrong I think it’s great folks are thinking we’re that close but it just doesn’t work that way in the NFL, if they are many things each week you need to do better to win games, you just aren’t good enough yet, simple as that. And the next three games will keep exposing us for what we truly are this year, a team far from being elite, still a mediocre team, but one on the rise, patience is on the docket again, hard to swallow, but that’s what we need to do now.
I see us going into the bye week 3-5 and having to fight our tails off to get back to 500 by season end with a 3-5 finish, that would be good enough to me, finishing on an upswing, on a good stretch, not like last year, giving us a strong platform to build on for next year. Last year’s ending was brutal for the off season, we cannot let that happen again.
Haha Bay…you always crack me up! We definitely will not start out 1-5 this season!! You have to look at it this way! We basically beat the Colts!! We stopped Freeney and Mathis from getting to our QB, we didn’t allow too many huge plays from Manning, and our defense played pretty well the whole game against the #1 offense in the NFL or close to that! It was so stupid of a call to run it on first and second and throw on 3rd and then run on fourth! McD should have ran on 1, 2, and 3 downs and threw on 4th! But Maroney should have scored that touchdown and he did a great job considering that no one blocked for him on that 4th down play that we didn’t get which we should’ve! The Colts went to the super bowl last year and we almost beat them! We kept up with them for the most part until the end and came back and about tied their score! I will tell you one thing!! No one here, myself included, thought that Orton would throw for more yards then Manning, how impressive was that!!
But no, I really think that we have a better chance than what most people are giving us to beat the Titans, Jets, and Ravens these next three games!! I will be at the Titans game so hopefully we win it even though I am sure we will! Young hasn’t been that good this season so far and has given too many turnovers!!
Also, I was very surprised too, we were getting close to sacking Manning a few times and definitely pressured him a good bit!!
This is from the same guy who said we would cream the Jaguars and beat the Colts in a close one, sorry I don’t take you’re word about not going 1-5 seriously…
Hahaha, I am not worried at all, everyone thought that we would beat the Jaguars, yourself included!! Plus Oakland is having quarterback issues and Chargers just got beaten by the Seahawks who we killed!! I guess you didn’t watch the game, but even the announcers were talking about how surprised they were with how well we were doing!! Don’t worry my old friend, you shall see!
Plus we are playing extremely better now then where we were at this time last year and we still went 8-8 last year! So we shall see on this year!
Re-read your posts, they are blanketed by “ifs”, if we did this if we did that we would of beaten the AFC champions, so we must be real, near to SB contender quality, I mean that’s how you always sound, I appreciate your optimism and won’t knock it down, in return you can do the same for how I look at it, just talking how I see it, not talking delusional theoritical stuff. We have a long ways to go and the next three games will expose us some more, even so I know it won’t do anything for you because in 4 weeks if we are 1-5, we will still be in your eye a shoe in to finish the season 11-5, whatever rocks your world, mine just doesn’t rock that way.
Freak30, you are a joker, I said for a month how worried I was about the Jaguars game because of the heat and I told all the ones here who cared to listen that they were out of their mind thinking that it was an easy win column game. You have a very poor memory, or maybe you just don’t care to listen.
If we are 1-5, I will admit it and bow down to you but I bet anything that we will not be 1-5!! I am sorry, but that is a very unrealistic number for this team!! Yes, these next games are against some good competitors, but we will come out with a better record for our 6 first games than 1-5! I do not think anyone else in here agrees with that record that you gave! Even the critics and analysts who hate the Broncos probably wouldn’t even agree on that! But I guess time will only tell!
We are now going to Tennessee followed by at Baltimore, then the Jets strutt in with their stuff, did you see the Miami game last night? Of course the better odds are that we will be 1-5, anything else would beat the odds, I bet you the majority in the football world sees it that way too, you are in the minority, you just don’t want to see it, anyway on to the next blog.
Everyone talked about the heat, it wasn’t just you and also everyone was worried about the game also because we have always had trouble with the Jags! We all made predictions because that’s what you asked us to do! It’s funny because you say you want to take some time before you make predictions and think about the other games but you have already predicted the prediction for our first 6 games! Haha, I believe you would be the joker!!
Not one single outlet in the sports betting world will have us favorite in any of these games, so how do you figure I’m the only one who thinks we might go 1-5, just had to point out to the obvious.
