September 26th, 2010 - 1:56pm by Gabe Hiatt

Pregame Festivities: The Junior Denver Broncos Cheerleaders are out on the field welcoming the crowd to the stadium with a dance routine, and the Thunderstorm jumpers are parachuting into the stadium in front of the cheering fans.

COIN TOSS: Daniel Graham, Chris Kuper, Kyle Orton, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, D.J. Williams and Wesley Woodyard are the team captains representing the Broncos in the coin toss. Floyd Little accompanied the captains in the toss, and the Colts have called heads and won the toss. They have elected to receive and will defend the North goal.

Q1 15:00 Devin Moore is back to receive the kickoff for the Colts, and he watches the ball sail past the end zone for a touchback by Matt Prater.

Q1 15:00The Broncos’ defense just took the field with Ryan McBean, Jamal Williams and Justin Bannan starting on the defensive line, and Robert Ayers, D.J. Williams and Mario Haggan and Jason Hunter are starting at linebacker. Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, Renaldo Hill and Perrish Cox make up the secondary for today. Bailey broke up Peyton Manning’s first pass of the day. Manning then completed a second-down pass for three yards to Austin Collie and converted the third down with a 14-yard pass to Reggie Wayne.

Q1 13:23 On first down Mario Haggan took down Joseph Addai one yard behind the line, and on the following play Manning couldn’t complete a pass to his running back. On third-and-11 Manning drops back and finds Dallas Clark up the middle for 19-yard completion to the Denver 45-yard line.

Q1 12:25 Mario Haggan led a group of Broncos to tackle Addai for a 3-yard run, and Bailey deflected a Manning pass on second down. On third-and-7, Manning threw the ball away right before getting hit by Robert Ayers and Kevin Vickerson.

Q1 11:33 Colts punter Pat McAfee punted the football into the end zone for a touchback. The Broncos’ offense just jogged onto the field with Zane Beadles, Chris Kuper, J.D. Walton, Stanley Daniels and Ryan Clady starting along the offensive line. Kyle Orton and Laurence Maroney make up the backfield, and Jabar Gaffney, Brandon Lloyd and Eddie Royal are lined up at wide receiver with Daniel Graham at tight end.

Q1 11:29 Orton’s first pass is incomplete to Graham, and the quarterback hands off to Maroney for a 5-yard run on second down. Facing third-and-5, Orton takes a snap from the shotgun formation and can’t complete the short pass to Eddie Royal. Britton Colquitt is out to punt.

Q1 10:54 Jerraud Powers calls for a fair catch and fields Colquitt’s 39-yard punt at the Colts’ 36-yard line.

Q1 10:46 On first down Manning fumbles the snap and falls on the ball for a 2-yard loss after Jamal Williams jumped on him. On the following play Dallas Clark pulls in a 13-yard pass from Manning and gets hit by Renaldo Hill.

Q1 9:23 With the new set of downs, Joseph Addai runs for 2 yards before he’s stopped by Mario Haggan and Ryan McBean. On second down, Manning chucks a deep pass to Reggie Wayne on the left sideline, and Wayne makes the catch for a 31-yard gain. Joseph Addai takes a handoff on the left side and Renaldo Hill sprints downfield to tackle the running back for no gain.

Q1 7:45 On second-and-10 from Denver’s 20-yard line, Manning throws a pass out of the back of the end zone. On third-and-long, he takes a shotgun snap and can’t complete a pass to a well-covered Dallas Clark. Adam Vinatieri is in to attempt the 38-yard field goal, and the kick is good.

COLTS 3 – BRONCOS 0

Q1 7:35: The Colts drove 45-yards in eight plays during the first scoring drive of the game. Perrish Cox sets up deep to receive the kickoff from Pat McAfee, and Cox lets the kick fall behind the end zone for a touchback.

Q1 7:27: The Broncos start from their own 20-yard line, and Orton fakes the handoff to Maroney and completes a 16-yard pass to Brandon Lloyd on first down. Maroney carries for a 1-yard loss, and Eddie Royal takes another 1-yard loss on a screen pass to the left side of the field. On third-and-12, Orton hands off to Buckhalter for the draw, and he’s stopped after a 7-yard rush. Britton Colquitt is in to punt.

Q1 4:51: Jerraud Powers calls for a fair catch, and the Colts will start their drive on their own 10-yard line after Colquitt’s 49-yard punt. On first down Manning lines up in the shotgun, fakes the draw right and throws left to Austin Collie for a 5-yard gain the receiver screen. On second-and-5, the quarterback changes the call and throws a quick out-route pass to Collie for 14 yards and a first down.

Q1 3:40: On first down from the 29-yard line, Robert Ayers stops Donald Brown on the draw after a 5-yard gain. Ayers takes down Brown again on the next play for a 1-yard loss, and Manning can’t complete a deep pass on third down. McAfee is in to punt.

Q1 2:38: Perrish Cox fumbles the football as he tries to catch the punt, and the Colts’ Justin Tryon recovers. The Colts take over at Denver’s 14-yard line. Manning takes the snap under center and hands off to Brown, who’s stopped by a swarm of Broncos led by Mario Haggan.

Q1 2:13: On second-and-11, Manning lofts the ball over Reggie Wayne, who was tightly covered by Champ Bailey. On third down, D.J. Williams is all over a Manning pass to Donald Brown, and Vinatieri is out on the field to attempt a 33-yard field goal. The kick is good, but there’s a flag on the play. After the play, the Broncos were called for unnecessary roughness, a 15-yard penalty enforced on the kickoff.

COLTS 6 – BRONCOS 0

Q1 1:38: Perrish Cox is set to receive the kickoff from McAffee, who easily boots the kick past the end zone for a touchback. Kyle Orton gives the ball to Buckhalter on the first play for a 3-yard run after getting tackled by Antonio Johnson. On second-and-7, Orton fakes the handoff and finds Jabar Gaffney for a 17-yard pass and a first down.

Q1 0:15: On first down Orton rears back and fires a 20-yard pass to Brandon Lloyd on the left sideline, putting the Broncos at Indianapolis’ 40-yard line before the end of the quarter. There is an injury on the field. No. 53 for the Colts, Kavell Conner, has walked off the field. The Broncos let the clock run off and enter the second quarter down by six.

Q2 15:00: The Broncos line up with Spencer Larsen at fullback, who leads the way for Maroney for a 4-yard gain. On the next play Maroney gets the give again, shaking off one Colt before Gary Brackett tackles him for a 1-yard gain. On third-and-5 Orton takes the shotgun snap, and his pass intended for Eddie Royal is intercepted by Jacob Lacey, who returns the pick 44 yards to Denver’s 26-yard line after getting tackled by Demaryius Thomas.

Q2 13:24: Joseph Addai is stopped by Jamal Williams and Mario Haggan for a 1-yard gain on first down, and Indianapolis lineman Jamey Richard is shaken up on the play. Manning lines up under center and completes a 10-yard pass to Blair White. On the next play D.J. Williams stops Addai for a 2-yard gain, and Addai catches a 4-yard pass on second down. On third-and-4 from the 9-yard line, Addai carries the ball up the middle for 4 yards, just enough for the first down.

*INJURY UPDATE* Spencer Larsen is out with an ankle injury and his return is questionable.

Q2 10:37: Manning’s first pass is incomplete to White, but then he finds Austin Collie for a 5-yard touchdown pass. Vinatieri converts the extra point.

COLTS 13 – BRONCOS 0

Q2 10:30: The Colts used seven plays during three minutes on their scoring drive. Eddie Royal sets up to field the kickoff from McAfee, and Royal Kneels the ball for a touchback. Orton takes a shotgun snap and connects with Daniel Graham for a 7-yard completion.

Q2 10:02: Maroney carries the ball for Denver, but the Broncos are called for holding and the ball is placed back on the 17-yard line. On second-and-13, Jabar Gaffney finds a soft spot in the Colts’ zone defense and catches 17-yard pass from Orton good for a first down.

Q2 9:02: Orton’s pass falls incomplete on first down, and Buckhalter carries the ball 1 yard on the next play. On third-and-9, Orton lines up in the shotgun and fires a pass deep on the left sideline to Gaffney, who makes the catch on a hook route and turns upfield for a 26-yard gain.

Q2 7:24: Demaryius Thomas gets open on comeback route on the right side of the field, and Orton finds him for a 27-yard completion that puts Denver on the Colts’ 12-yard line. On the next play Maroney runs for 3 yards, and on second-and-7 Orton completes a short pass to Daniel Graham. Indianapolis is called for a face mask penalty that puts the ball half the distance to the goal.

Q2 5:35: Maroney can’t get to the end zone on first-and-goal from the 1-yard line, and takes the second down carry for no gain as well. D’Anthony Batiste has reported as an eligible receiver for this series, and he’s been setting up on the end of the line like a tight end.

Q2 4:36: Indianapolis has used their first time out in the contest with the Broncos facing third-and-goal from the 1-yard line. Orton takes the snap and tries to throw a fade-pass to Demaryius Thomas, but the ball is out of his reach. The Broncos are going for it on fourth-and goal, and the Maroney is able to hit pay dirt with a stretch run to the left side. Indianapolis is challenging the ruling on the field.

Q2 4:26: The officials have reversed the call on the field of a touchdown. Maroney’s knee was down before the ball broke the plane of the end zone. The ball will be spotted just inside of the 1-yard line and the Colts won’t be charged a time out. On first-and-10, Manning completes an 8-yard pass to Brody Eldridge. Mario Haggan stops Donald Brown for a 2-yard gain, and the Colts have a first down.

Q2 3:00: Ryan McBean and D.J. Williams stop Brown for a 1-yard gain on first down, and Manning drops back to pass on the next play. The quarterback can’t complete a deep pass to Collie, but the officials throw a flag. After considering the play, there is no call for pass interference, and the Colts face third-and-9 from their own 12-yard line. Manning takes a shotgun snap and completes a pass to White, who is immediately stopped by Perrish Cox 1 yard short of the first down. This brings us to the two-minute warning.

Q2 2:00: The Colts are electing to punt on fourth-and-1, and Eddie Royal sets up around the 30-yard line and returns McAfee’s punt for about a 10-yard gain, but Denver is called for holding and takes the ball at the 47-yard line.

Q2 1:10: Orton connects with Jabar Gaffney for an 8-yard pass on first down, and then Buckhalter picks up another yard on the next play. On third down, Orton sneaks for 1 yard and the first down, and Denver calls it’s first time out.

Q2 1:05: On first down at the 50-yard line, Orton looks to pass but can’t complete a throw. He finds Gaffney for a 20-yard catch on the following play, and the Broncos take their second time out.

Q2 0:46: On first down Orton finds Buckhalter underneath for a 9-yard completion, and the quarterback hurries to the line of scrimmage and completes a 5-yard pass to Eddie Royal on the next play. Denver takes their final time out facing first-and-10 from the Colts’ 16-yard line.

Q2 0:28: Jabar Gaffney runs up the left sideline and catches a pass for 8 yard before running out of bounds. He tries to connect with Orton in the end zone, but the two can’t complete the pass. On third-and-1 from the 7-yard line, Orton takes the shotgun snap and fires the fade pass to Gaffney. The ball falls incomplete, and the Broncos are called for an illegal shift penalty. The Colts decline the penalty, and the Broncos face fourth-and-1. Prater lines up to attempt a field goal and makes the 25-yard kick.

COLTS 13 – BRONCOS 3

Q2 0:12: Devin Moore lines up deep to receive the kick, and he returns it up to the 23-yard line after Darcel McBath chases him out of bounds. Manning kneels the ball with five second left on the clock to end the first half.
