Broncos vs. Chargers: Second Half Live Blog

November 22nd, 2009 - 3:42pm by Chris Gentilviso

Q3 – 15:00: San Diego gets possession to start the second half. Matt Prater’s kickoff hits the crossbar and goes out of the end zone for a touchback. The Chargers will start at their own 20-yard line.

Q3 – 14:06: San Diego starts out with four wide receivers. Philip Rivers is flushed out of the pocket and delivers a three-yard shovel pass to fullback Jacob Hester. Rivers moves into the shotgun on second down, but has his pass batted at the line of scrimmage by Andra Davis. Facing 3rd and 7, Rivers returns to the shotgun, but his pass falls short to Darren Sproles. Jarvis Moss had good tight coverage on the running back, and Mike Scifres is in to punt.

Q3 – 13:54: Royal takes Scifres’ kick at the 26-yard line and returns it upfield to the Broncos’ own 36-yard line. That’s where Kyle Orton and the offense will get their second-half attack started.

Q3 – 13:06: Orton starts out of the shotgun, with Jabar Gaffney, Brandon Marshall, and Eddie Royal flanked to his left. He hands off to Knowshon Moreno, who runs right for one yard before being stopped by Shaun Phillips. Back in the shotgun, Orton delivers a quick slant to Royal, who fights for a nine-yard gain. Facing 3rd and 1 at their own 45, a Charger is down on the field, prompting an injury timeout.

Q3 – 12:23: Out of the break, the Broncos line up in an eye-formation set. Spencer Larsen paves a hole for Moreno on the left side, and the rookie takes advantage, rumbling 36 yards downfield to the Chargers’ 19-yard line.

Q3 – 11:59: In the red zone, the Broncos go back to the run with Correll Buckhalter, who goes off left tackle for a modest gain. The Chargers are whistled for offsides, but Daniel Graham is whistled for holding, signaling a replay of first down.

Q3 – 10:54: Orton takes a three-step drop and finds an open Royal on the right side for a seven-yard gain. Into second and short, the Broncos use two tight ends. Correll Buckhalter rumbles up the gut for six yards and a first-and-goal.

Q3 – 9:59: Moreno takes the inside handoff on first down, but runs out of room at the five-yard line. Out of the shotgun, Orton takes a three step drop and looks for Marshall in the back of the end zone. The ball grazes his right hand, but flies out of bounds, setting up third and goal. Again out of the shotgun, Orton looks for Gaffney over the middle, but the play is broken up by strong safety Steve Gregory.

Q3 – 9:56: Matt Prater nails the chip-shot 23-yard field goal, getting the Broncos on the board.

CHARGERS 13, BRONCOS 3

Q3 – 9:55: As Prater sets up the ball on the kicking tee, Darrell Reid gathers the coverage team to fire them up. The Broncos attempt the on-side kick, but Chargers receiver Legedu Naanee recovers it. Josh Barrett had a chance to recover it, but the bail sailed through his hands. The Chargers now have favorable field position at the Broncos’ 41-yard line.

Q3 – 8:57: LaDainian Tomlinson takes the first down carry up the middle for four yards, before being dragged down by Elvis Dumervil. Tomlinson is back in on second down, but Rivers goes to the pass, finding Antonio Gates on a quick slant for seven yards and a first down.

Q3 – 7:25: Tomlinson slithers his way through the middle of the defense, running out of room at the 25-yard line after a five-yard gain. Rivers pitches to Tomlinson on second down, who throws it back across the field to Rivers. With the Broncos defense out of position, Rivers spots Antonio Gates in the open field for a 24-yard gain. San Diego now has a 1st and goal at the one-yard line.

Q3 – 6:47: Rivers goes back to Tomlinson, but Andra Davis stops him in his tracks for no gain. Tomlinson tries it again on second down and breaks the plane for the one-yard touchdown. Renaldo Hill and Wesley Woodyard had Tomlinson by the legs, but he used his arm and some extra effort to break the plane. Nate Kaeding tacks on the extra point.

CHARGERS 20, BRONCOS 3

Q3 – 6:46: Kaeding’s kickoff sails to the right side of the field and skirts out of bounds for a touchback. The Broncos will get started at their own 20-yard line.

Q3 – 6:41: Working out of the shotgun, Orton finds Tony Scheffler on a right-side out route for 12 yards and a quick first down.

Q3 – 5:22: Orton keeps his rhythm going, finding Gaffney in an open crevice for 10 yards and another first down. The Broncos go back to the run on the ensuing play, as Moreno crosses midfield for 13 yards and another first down.

Q3 – 4:00: Facing significant pressure, Orton eludes several Chargers and throws the ball away. Orton goes back to the run on second down, but Kevin Burnett breaks through the line and stops Correll Buckhalter for no gain. Out of the shotgun on third and long, Orton sets up the screen with Buckhalter, but he’s five yards shy of the first-down marker.

Q3 – 3:54: Head Coach Josh McDaniels sends the offense out onto the field for 4th and 5 from the San Diego 40-yard line. That prompts the Chargers to use their first timeout of the second half.

Q3 – 3:51: Out of the timeout, Orton drops back to pass and spots Gaffney open over the middle of the field. The pass sails a few yards behind him, and the Chargers will take over on downs at their own 40-yard line.

Q3 – 3:00: Tomlinson gets the call on first down, following Hester up the middle for five yards. Sproles gives him a breather on second down, going off left tackle for a couple of yards. Elvis Dumervil was offsides on the play, giving San Diego a first down at midfield.

Q3 – 2:19: Following TE Brandon Manumaleuna, Sproles goes off left for a few yards. But the play is whistled dead, as Kenny Peterson was offsides. With 1st and 5 at the Denver 45, Tomlinson re-enters the game. Rivers shakes off the run, and looks to go deep for Vincent Jackson, but the ball sails a few yards long into the end zone.

Q3 – 0:37: On 2nd and 5, Tomlinson rumbles for five yards, reaching the marker for another San Diego first down. Rivers goes right back to the well with Tomlinson, weaving his way up the middle for eight yards. Rivers hands to the upback Hester, who skips through the hole for 15 yards and a first down in the red zone.

Q3 – 0:37: On 1st and 10 from the Denver 17, San Diego hands to Sproles for a two-yard gain. The third quarter has come to a close.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: CHARGERS 20, BRONCOS 3

Q4 – 15:00: The Chargers go back to the run, handing to Sproles for five yards before he is met by the Broncos’ team of Darcel McBath and Vonnie Holliday. Facing 3rd and 3 at the Broncos’ 10-yard line, Rivers sets in the shotgun. With two receivers on each side, he opts to call San Diego’s second timeout of the second half.

Q4 – 14:15: Out of the I-formation, Rivers fakes the run ad looks for Vincent Jackson over the middle. The ball is thrown behind him, and Renaldo Hill breaks up the pass to force fourth down. Nate Kaeding comes in and converts a 28-yard field goal. After the conclusion of the play, Ronald Fields is called for an unsportsmanlike conduct play, which will be enforced on the kickoff.

CHARGERS 23, BRONCOS 3

Q4 – 14:06: The penalty propels Kaeding’s tee to the 45-yard line. His kickoff sails through the uprights, and the Broncos will start their offense at their own 20-yard line.

Q4 – 13:33: Orton looks for Marshall on first down, but the pass is broken up along the right sideline by Chargers safety Steve Gregory. The Chargers show blitz on second down, and Kevin Burnett comes up with a seven-yard sack. Backed into a 3rd and 17 from their own 13-yard line, Orton can’t reach a streaking Gaffney down the field, as the pass falls incomplete.

Q4 – 13:22: Mitch Berger’s punt goes for 45 yards. It is picked up by Sproles at the 42-yard line, and returned six yards before he is met by Darrell Reid. San Diego will get started at its own 48-yard line.

Q4 – 12:06: Tomlinson takes the first-down carry for San Diego, finding running room on the right side for 13 yards and a first down. Into Broncos territory, fullback Mike Tolbert finds another seam up the middle, rumbling 32 yards and setting up a first-and-goal for the Chargers at the Broncos’ seven-yard line.

Q4 – 10:40: Andra Davis’ stops San Diego’s string of runs, hitting Tomlinson in the backfield for a two-yard loss. Rivers goes to the air on second down, finding Hester on a swing pass. Mario Haggan drags him out of bounds after a three-yard gain, backing the Chargers into a third-and-goal scenario. Sproles tests the middle of the Broncos’ defense, but he is met by a trio of defenders at the one-yard line to set up fourth and goal. Chargers tackle Jeromey Clary is down on the play, leading to a break in the action.

Q4 – 10:28: Clary is carted off the field and Kaeding is in to attempt his fourth field goal of the game. The 19-yard attempt is good.

CHARGERS 26, BRONCOS 3

Q4 – 10:23: Eddie Royal fields Kaeding’s kickoff in the end zone, returning it out to the 18-yard line. Denver will start at that spot.

Q4 – 9:30: Out of the shotgun, Orton fires a quick pass on the left side to Buckhalter. He swivels his way past a few defenders and gets out of bounds after an 11-yard gain. On the ensuing play, Orton goes back to the air, finding Eddie Royal for a 5-yard gain. Buckhalter shifts to the ground, running forward for six yards and another Broncos’ first down.

Q4 – 8:37: Orton goes back to the air, finding Daniel Graham on a short crossing route for four yards. At the foot of midfield, Orton finds Buckhalter on a screen and a big gain. He springs free behind the blocking of Russ Hochstein and Casey Wiegmann for a 25-yard gain and a first down at the San Diego 26-yard line. Chargers ILB Kevin Burnett is down, leading to a stoppage of play.

Q4 – 7:49: Out of the shotgun, Orton finds Moreno in the left flat. The rookie picks up six yards and gets out of bounds to stop the clock. Again out of the gun, Orton finds Marshall over the middle for six yards and a first down into the red zone.

Q4 – 7:42: Orton takes a shot to Marshall in the back right corner of the end zone, but the ball sails incomplete. On second down at the San Diego 14-yard line, Ryan Clady is whistled for a false start. With 2nd and 15 from the 19-yard line, Orton lines up with four wide receivers and throws incomplete. The closest receiver to the ball was Gaffney. Orton tries a right-side fade to Marshall on third down, but Quentin Jammer breaks up the pass.

Q4 – 7:37: Trailing by three-plus scores, the Broncos go for it on 4th and 15. Orton fields a low snap, but then throws low to Marshall at the foot of the goal line. The Chargers will take over on downs at their own 19-yard line.

Q4 – 5:40: The Chargers hand off to the upback Tolbert on first down for a five yard gain. Milking the playclock down as far as he can, Rivers hands to his other fullback, Hester, for a one-yard gain. Hester gets the call again on third down and converts, sneaking his way for a 14-yard gain and a new set of downs.

Q4 – 3:59: San Diego continues its rotation with its fullbacks, handing to Tolbert for a six-yard gain on first down. Under the five-minute mark, the Chargers line up in the I-formation and go again to Tolbert, who pushes the pile two yards forward. On third and short, Hester is stopped short of the marker by Le Kevin Smith, prompting the Broncos to call their first timeout of the second half.

Q4 – 3:51: Scifres comes in to punt, delivering a low line-drive kick that bounces into the end zone for a touchback. The Broncos will get another chance on offense at their own 20-yard line.

Q4 – 3:39: Orton starts in the shotgun with three wide receivers and Buckhalter as the lone setback. With time, his pass is broken up by Chargers ILB Stephen Cooper. Sporting the same personnel, Orton fires a quick pass left to Royal, who gets out of bounds after an eight-yard gain.

Q4 – 3:29: On third and short, Orton looks downfield for Gaffney, but the play is broken up by Quentin Jammer. Orton looks again for Gaffney on fourth down, but the ball can’t get by the outstretched hand of Steve Gregory. San Diego takes over on downs at the Denver 28-yard line.

Q4 – 2:00: Rivers goes back to his fullback Hester, who carries upfield for nine yards. Using a three tight end set, Tolbert comes in and runs for enough to move the chains. With 1st and 10 at the Denver 17, Hester takes another handoff for three yards, bringing us to the two-minute warning here at INVESCO Field at Mile High.

Q4 – 1:02: Out of the break, Tolbert goes up the gut for three yards, setting up 3rd and 4 at the Denver 11-yard line. Continuing the rotation, Hester takes a counter carry off his left tackle. The officials call for a measurement and he is just about a full yard short of the first down.

Q4 – 0:34: Holding a 23-point lead, the Chargers line up on 4th and 1 at the Denver 8-yard line. Out of the I-formation, Rivers gives a quick handoff to Tolbert who bursts through for an 8-yard touchdown. He fumbled the ball in the end zone but recovered it in time before Darcel McBath could pounce on it. Kaeding’s extra point is blocked by Marcus Thomas and recovered by Renaldo Hill, equaling a dead ball.

CHARGERS 32, BRONCOS 3

Q4 – 0:33: Kaeding’s kickoff is fielded in the end zone by Royal, and he takes a knee. The Broncos have 1st and 10 from their own 20-yard line.

Q4 – 0:00: Buckhalter runs for nine yards on the final play of the game. The final here at INVESCO Field at Mile High: Chargers 32, Broncos 3. San Diego moves to 7-3 and takes over first place in the AFC West, while the Broncos fall 6-4 and will next play the Giants here in Denver on Thanksgiving night. Thanks for following our blog, and be sure to return to DenverBroncos.com later this evening for complete postgame coverage.

Well, What can you say the collapse is complete I picked the Broncos to go 6 and 10 before the season and although so far they won a few I did’nt think they would, they have also lost a few I thought they would win. looks like they might just finish at 6 and 10 after all. If I ever have to watch Phillip(cry me a)Rivers run off Invesco field in victory again I don’t think my stomach would handle it.That guy has to be the biggest jerk I’ve ever seen in professional sports.

  2. RockyMts69 says:

Well…look on the bright side, like THE EXPERTS said, this really isn’t a must win game. So be it, I guess we can get ready to watch Manning come in Thursday night and light up the scoreboard as well. I’m sure all of the EXPERTS will also come to the conclusion that this game really won’t have any significance either. Has there EVER been a team that’s made it to the play-offs with a 6-10 record…?

  3. royalbeast5050 says:

you know its bad when are teammates start fighting go broncos in 2010

  4. LBWilson56 says:

Like Jim rome would say:”We came from ahead in this division to tank”..Total self destruction..nothing more to say about this team….

  5. casinoroyal19 says:

heres to jake locker in the draft. we need a guy who can stretch the field.

  6. john bronco says:

    6-4 Great

    Thanks Mc Daniels

    FIREEE Simms

    Bring a Real QB

  7. john bronco says:

    Bring back Plummer

  8. RockyMts69 says:

If Simms was any kind of person, he would pay back the money that Denver signed him for, quit football, and vow to NEVER return to the game EVER again!!!!

I hope he’s cleaning out his locker right now….

  9. baylinorcrush says:

Rocky, I couldn’t agree with you more, but that’s not going to happen, so at least make him 3rd string QB immediately.

  10. baylinorcrush says:

Anyhow, I’m not going to ask all the guys who yesterday thought this was not a must win game, what game do they think is a must game now!

  11. thatdude807 says:

Right now the broncos are not even in the wild-card spot anymore

  12. RockyMts69 says:

My EXACT thoughts also Bay! So what day is a GOOD day to start winning???

I would’nt let Simms start my car let alone a football game! He’s not even worthy of holding a clip board!

  13. RockyMts69 says:

I also thought the officiating was horrible! The head ref reminded me of the warden in the Shawshank Redemption! :(

  14. tnalen66 says:

We should of put Tom B in the 4th quarter to get some reps. Simms is only in the NFL cuz of daddy. 86 him and just go w/2 qbs. I don’t think we can win a game the rest of the season. KC beat wash pitt and almosy balt and dallas. I don’t think we can beat them. Oakland beat philly and cincy , i don’t think we beat them

  15. The #1 says:

I’m with you on that one man. Forget all this Coulda, Shoulda, with a Woulda on the side. See ya Thursday.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

I dislike Moreno with a passion, as you all should know by now. He does ok in the easy downs between the twenties, but in the tough downs, short yardage and scoring position, he is absolutely horrible. He has cost us so many scores and so many possessions in half a season that I bet he has blown it for us more than any RB ever has in their entire career. I AM NOT KIDDING, THIS GUY IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE AND UNTIL HE LEARNS THE ROPES, WHY HE GETS SO MUCH PLAY IS ONLY BECAUSE HE IS MCD’S FIRST DRAFT PICK AND MCD IS TOO PROUD TO ADMIT HE MADE A MISTAKE WHEN WE ALL KNEW WE NEEDED HELP ON THE D LINE. Anyone who says Moreno is great and I should vote for him for rookie of the week, beware! I may not be responsible for my actions. No joke, DEAD SERIOUS HERE. He might still be good at some point in his career, but his rookie year has been an all time low for me. I should call him Mr. non clutch average joe blow. I hate the guy. He really lost us the game, if he just goes down on contact without over reaching for the end zone, we have second down and a foot at the goal line. We cut it to one score game and McD never tries the stupid onside kick with 10 minutes to go in the third quarter. I hate Moreno more than anyone today, even more than Simms, because he has done this crap all year. I am totally sick of watching him play. Ok, you all get my drift now, the sports bar I was at all got to hear it too, so I got it out of my system. Just one more time so, Moreno is the worse game killer I have seen in a long time.

  17. tnalen66 says:

Well i said we would not have to worry about the 4th quarter collaps again cuz it would be over in the 3rd and isaid it would be 30-13 SD. i talked about past failures and i got ripped 4 it. When your O only scores 7 3 14(agaist a 2 win team), and 3, you can not win. Our D is out on the field way too much. Now i know how it feels 2 be a cincy fan b/4 this year.

  18. RockyMts69 says:

bay, that falls on McD. We have TWO capable FB’s that are healthy, eager, and responsible. And they both had a remarkable performance last year.

I give McD an FFF- for starting Simms. Another F- for not playing Hillis, another FFF- for letting Kern go, and where was Ty Law today???

I will give McD a D for the on side kick. If we had recovered the ball, it may have given us a little insight towards making an attempt in winning today.

And if it’s true that McD was taunting the SD players before the game, he needs to go public and apologize to EVERYONE!!!

  19. baylinorcrush says:

tnalen66, your pick was 13-37 and you obviously did real good with it, but stevecan2 outdid you in the spread, I’ll post the results in the morning, too wound up to do it now…

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Rocky I don’t know how you missed my point, LOL, I really do dislike Moreno, period. I know they are a thousand reasons for it, but I still do just dislike Moreno, at least give me that…

  21. uub says:

Rocky you have not figured it out yet. Law is here cuz he just had a baby. Needed some money and called all his old coaches. Just to see if they needed any help. Josh said yes.

  22. tnalen66 says:

I am still pi$$ed about giving our #1 for Phozy who i don’t even know if he plays. Yah Ty Law and Kern were real ??? moves too. I can’t sleep when we lose. I have 2 weeks of crap to take now.

  23. broncofannsd says:

Why doesn’t coach use Hillis in goal line situations with Larsen blocking? That fumble by Moreno at the goal line was a killer. It’s a different game had that been a TD.

If Orton wasn’t too hurt to take out of the game when it was completely out of reach in the 4th Qtr., why didn’t he just start the game? What was the point of starting Simms? Simms looked completely out of touch and uncomfortable in the pocket. Tom B. should have saw some action in the 4th Qtr., but instead coach keeps an injured Orton in the game.

WTF!!!! McD just got out coached by Norv “overrated” Turner.

  24. babychamp-broncos^ says:

Of course everyone is mad after this loss and its ok to vent…by tuesday or maybe tomorrow morning everyone will be over it focusing n the giants…I am not worried at all…6-4 aint bad plus its still 6 gaes left to play…anything can happen…chargers can lose 4 straight we can easily take the lead back if Kc beats the chargers next week and we beat the giants…there are so many different things that can happen so everyone just cool out dont point the finger at anyone…we all know if orton was in from the beginning this game would have easily been ours but dont worry let it go and lets focus on the giants there is still some football left to play…

BTW—I hope Marshall and Mareno patch up that lil fight they had on the sidelines

  25. eternalorangeandblue says:

I think the biggest disappointing thing right now about our team is the fan base. Man there were more SD fans out there then there has ever been at a BRONCOS HOME GAME for christs sake. I know we are going through a recession and all and people need the extra money but this is ridiculous. I thought we were the best fans in the NFL but it seems like all the real fans are either dead or living elsewhere now. the reason teams dont fear mile high anymore is because the 12th man has left the building. Kudos to the small majority that screamed their hearts out for the orange and blue

  26. broncofannsd says:

It’s like the Coors commercial with Jim Mora… “playoffs, don’t talk about the playoffs… you kidding me”. LOL…

  27. uub says:

eternalorangeandblue that is our fan base. During the first 6 games they were wearing Broncos jerseys. During the four game loosing streak. They jusy switched teams. You can’t tell??? They doing it on the blog now!!! It’s the same people who were in the stands when we were winning. They just going with the hot team now. TRANSFANERS More than meets the eye!!! lol

  28. champbigd says:

wow you all need to take a chill pill the broncos are still in the playoff hunt you guys sound like charger fans lol we are better than we played today let mcdaniels do work he knows the team sucks right now but im sure as hell not going to give up on my team or this season
    BRONCO FANS FOR LIFE!!!

  29. baylinorcrush says:

Guess what, I am now dead on with my early season record prediction at this point: 6-4.

I picked that right after the draft. Like I always say make your season record pick early, your odds of been close will increase greatly as it’s easier to see the big picture without being swayed by all the daily occurences through training camp and pre-season. It’s what works best for me. For those interested, my final record pick is 8-8.

  30. RSH says:

It’s all in the numbers, my friends. Denver had the ball in the red zone today four times and came away with a grand total of 3 points. Ballgame. The only way Denver can win is by playing a formula similar to the 2001 New England Patriots and that is a formula of mistake free/low risk offense and timely defense. That’s why Denver by and large started 6-0. Getting away from that blueprint is why the Broncos now find themselves at 6-4 and on the outside looking in at the playoffs. Denver like most NFL teams is not capable of winning games when they turn the ball over. That’s why teams with -3 or worse turnover ratios have yet to win this season and rarely have won with such a dubious mark in past seasons.

  31. olderthandirt says:

i cant believe he left orton in, he should have put tom in

  32. RSH says:

    eternalorangeandblue,

There are song lyrics that answer your justified anger about the Broncos’ home game fan problem. The lyrics read, “they paved paradise to put up a parking lot.” What does that have to do with it? That parking lot is where the soul of Denver’s true Bronco Maniac fan base was put to rest. That parking lot is where the real Mile High Stadium once stood.

  33. buckeyebronco says:

I’m afraid too many folks were drinking the orange kool-aid as we rolled to 6-0, including the players & coaches. This team lost its focus in Baltimore, re-grouped a bit against Pittsburg for 3 quarters, and then drifted off completely. I think all the issues that people were worried about at the beginning of the year are still there and our new rookie head coach is learning the position the only way you can…the hard way. He had his team rolling, then they hit a wall. How does he get them back on track? Tough job, I’m sure he has trouble sleeping at night.
The Redskins & Chargers really didn’t play amazingly well, we just played much worse. The silly mistakes and turnovers just keep piling up. You can’t feel good about that. Until the coach and the players get their acts together we will continue to under-impress.

  34. That foe Happy says:

ya TOM probably would done a hell lot better and ur rite aleast get some rep if he is truly going 2 be da future of the team im surprised simm found his way on da field MD really needs 2 look at his players becuz some really have 2 go there rotating da bunch

  35. baylinorcrush says:

    welcometobroncocountry, welcome to Chicago.

  36. Deify_you says:

you want the QB that leads the league in interceptions? No thanks, already had him.

  37. RSH says:

Jay Cutler’s absence has nothing to do with why the Broncos have lost four games in a row. In fact, Denver’s main reason for losing their past four is a negative turnover ratio in each game. This turnover problem would only be exacerbated with Cutler at the helm.

  38. Deify_you says:

baylinorcrush I agree about Moreno, he pretty much fumbles in every game. I cringe anytime he gets the ball. We have two capable FB, give the ball to Hillis or Larsen. Also Larsen always makes awesome special team plays. Why not put him in at LB once in awhile, rotate him in when Haggan, Davis, or Williams is tired.

  39. stevecan2 says:

I was upset that Orton even stepped foot on the field after watching our o-line. We had one today right? Weird game to say the least. If I was a superstitious man I would burn the beanie i wore for the first time all season. So if you need to vent, blame my beanie.

  40. Broncsfan83 says:

OK I am going to vent because I am pissed off. WTF is up with McD and that stupid onside kick. Second McD needs to play Hillis, he is a beat and could get us those 3 or 4 yards in short yardage situations. 3 If Orton was to hurt to start and Simms sucked (big suprise there) then play the kid. I have been a Broncos fan since 1983 and this is the most disappointing season so far. We lost this the season is over. I still love the Broncos but the reality is we are done. One final note I love how Cutler gave the game to the eagles. Looks like two good draft picks next year.

  41. CraziBroncFan says:

look this is to all you fake a** broncos…all you do is cry. i mean what the hell did you all expect from this season? new coach, new qb; i mean dah, why dont you all go back to some other team if you dont like it. move on, jump on indys ban wagon. we’re still in the hunt and none of you had anything to say when we won six in a row. a true fan sucks it up and looks toward the next game, they dont give up and say the seasons over. im a fan and will always, ill be there every sunday even if we never won a game. ill still be there in my orange and blue and yea i do think there was some stupid calls like the onside kick but i understand why mcd did it, he was looking for a spark, anything, we needed something. mcd is going to be a special coach he knows how to win, you can see it in him. he has to make due with what he has and lets face it he doesnt have much. so to all you cry babies move on and to the real broncos fans you know who you are: keep on bleeding orange and blue!
    go Broncos every sunday baby.

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

I’m thinking Snead or Bradford for our #1 next year, unless Brandstater is ready to go.Or if McD decides to go D-line (LIKE HE SHOULD HAVE THIS YEAR) Ndamukong Suh-Neb, or Terrence Cody-Alabama.We might have to trade up to get the dominant NT we need for a 3-4 Defense.Either of these guys would be a beast in the middle of a 3-4 D-line.IMO

I really don[t know what to say. For them its time to shut up and play.

I think everyone is trying to do to much including McD. Smart football wins games. Don’t try and do to much and be stupid with the football.

Untill we can win on third down on both sides of the ball, get the ball in the endzone, and stop turning it over we will never see the playoffs.

Somethings gotta change. We can win when we play smart football and trust eachother to do thier jobs.

To me we haven’t seen a running game this year. There has been sparks, but they abandon it everytime. With our O-line, fullbacks, and runningbacks we should be able to run the ball, dominate possession, execute in the endzone, limit turnovers, and give our defense a rest once in a while.

    I could go on but I won’t. I’m out.

  45. oldsouthstander says:

What a bunch of world class front runners. Do we suck right now? Yes, but to abandon all hope of having a good season shows that most of you aren’t really Bronco fans. I’ve had tickets in ther South stands since the mid 60′s and I’ve never seen such a bunch of whiners and pessimists. Be realistic. When the schedule came out is looked like 8-8 would be an excellent year. We’re still 2 games over 500. You whiners must all be related to B Marsh. When things are going good, like him, you’re all warm and fuzzy and on top of the world. When things go bad, like him, you get all pissy and start pointing fingers. Just remember about finger pointing, when you pint a finger at somebody else, there’s three pointing back at you. Quit finding blame and try to do everything you can to make it better.
For all you Moreno haters , I’d like to know what game you were watching. On the fumble at the goal line he was streching out and giving extra effort to get the ball over the goal line when HIS OWN PLAYER knocked the ball loose.
At the moment, the Broncos are playing not to lose rather than playing to win. I don’t have any magic formula to change that, but Mereno tried by giving extras effort at the goal line, Orton tried by playing hurt and McD tried by attempting an on side kick.

Where is the panic button anyway??

  47. coachemup says:

just bad football all the way around! I dont know what it will take to get this thing turned around and I don’t think anyone in that locker room knows either. Turnovers have killed us and we just can’t seem to get on track anywhere. Mareno’s fumble at the goal line should have been ruled a touchdown (so I don’t want to hear from anymore SD fans on the Hoculi call anymore) and the hit Orton took at his legs should have easily been called a penalty. All of these could have turned things around, but if we don’t get the breaks that we did early this team seems to implode.

Coach getting into talking smack with the other team and finger pointing isn’t getiing it done either. Our coaches need to coach better and our players need to play with a passion that holds themselves accountable. Coach, If your not getting the fire you need from the players your putting on the field then you need to shake things up and get someone out there that has a desire to win some football games. Give the rock to Hillis, let Larson play Offense Defense and special teams to show the rest of these guys he”s willing to do his part the whole game. Until we get some fires lit were going to continue to eat $hiiii%&^* sandwich’s even on Thanksgiving.

Well said coachemup, well said. Do you have a sponsor for that “coach ‘em up”? LOL. I couldn’t agree more. I feel like Mike Singletary… “I WANT WINNERS!!”

All I saw yesterday, was a buncha creeps that QUIT. 32-3?!!! That’s like when the Lions put a 40 burger on us a few years back… Bolts aren’t THAT good. And right now, we play the Chargers like everyone plays USC…. SCARED!

We walk in the stadium (home or away)… and just expect to get our butts handed to us. Which we did. Chargers are LAUGHING all the way home on this one…. yet again.

Broncos CHOKED… yet again. We’ll set another NFL record, a bad one. We’ll be the first team in NFL history to start 6-0, only to MISS THE PLAYOFFS! And, we’ll be the first team in NFL history to not only let a 3 game lead slip away (last year), but let a 3 and ONE HALF game lead (at any point in the season) slip away THIS YEAR!

Maybe a 10 game lead with 4 to play would be the only safe lead for the super choking Broncos. With an all new coaching staff, other than Bobby Turner and Rick Dennison (Strength & Conditioning too), and 32 new players… I thought that things would be different this year. Obviously not. Same Broncos… start fast, choke late…. home for playoffs.

    I WANT WINNERS!!!

McDaniels coming from the Patriots, should know that you can win early with OLD guys… but you can’t win LATE. They get tired faster, beat up (from the season) sooner, thus soft down the stretch. (see Pats loss to Giants in the Super Bowl, Pats D was too old… and they couldn’t protect Brady. See any similarities in the Broncos?)

They may have the brains… but they don’t have the speed, and the endurance to keep up with Old Man Winter, and the grind of an NFL season. I’m getting tired of seeing Champ hit the ground or slap his hands together whenever he doesn’t break up a pass, or “win a down” ….which seems to happen every time his number is called upon now.

And Simms needs to hang it up. He was gone for too long, and the game got away from him, obviously. He wasn’t ever much to write home about… and he sure as all get out ain’t worth the 3M a year we’re paying him. What a joke. And to think that he was “the guy” before Orton came to town is scary.

We need to over haul the secondary with youth, not “salty black hair” prophets. Get another pass rusher, and some more youth on the O-Line as well. And get some people that HATE LOSING… especially to the San Diego Super Sucking Chargers! If the Chiefs can beat the Steelers, and the Raiders can beat the Bengals… man, if either of those teams can win on the same day, against teams that are above .500…. then the Broncos should be able to beat the FRIGGIN’ DEADskins!!!

    I want WINNERS!!!!!

Again, for the 4th game in a row, prediction results can’t be any fun… What a nightmare!
Anyway two guys really stood out of the pack this week, and even so there will not be any big congrats or anything like that, a loss is a loss, is a loss, is a loss…..and there is absolutely nothing fun about it, I still need to say that they had an excellent perception of the state of our team now and where this game was heading:

    1) stevecan2 13-41, had the loss and was amazingly only one point off the 29 point defeat margin.
    2) tnalen66 13-37, pretty impressive also.

I take this opportunity to call out the guys here (I won’t name their handles) who, when the two above guys made their picks, jumped all over their throats calling them stupid things all related to them not being true Bronco fans. You guys ought to be ashamed of how you treated these two real Bronco fans, who just happened to have a better feel for this game than you did. If you are man enough, you ought to apologize to these guys, you know who you are.

Another guy had the right idea:

    Ikiratuki 7-24

On the other end of the spectrum, no one made a fool of themselves this week much more than the majority… but it is worth mentioning that only two guys had us winning by double digits:

    FTR 28-17 (11)
Orange Crusher 28-10 (17), went from top dog last week all the way to the cellar in one week. LOL.

Everybody not mentioned had us winning by single digits, cautiously optimistic I would say.
We had 19 entries, pretty impressive considering the losing streak, real Bronco fans you all are. This week, I’ll take picks all the way until prior to kick off considering this is such a short week and I‘ll be home turkey day anyway. Happy Thanksgiving to all.
