Broncos vs. Buccaneers: Pregame Notes

October 5th, 2008 - 11:55am by Adam Zinser

12:00 p.m. MDT: A few days ago, the forecast showed lots of rain for today.

Thankfully, that is not the case.

It’s extremely clear out — on the drive to the stadium, I could see the mountains more clearly than I could for the past couple months.

Down on the field, Darrell Hackney is throwing a round a little bit while the CU Buffoons practice singing the national anthem.

At one end of the field, Mitch Erickson, Dylan Gandy and Erik Pears are throwing the football around. They have been trying to hit the crossbar from 25 yards out, and not too long ago, Pears nailed it.

Well, I’ll be heading down onto the field with Jake Grilley to snap some pictures here in a little bit once more players start warming up.

And now I’m back with some photos:

12:51 p.m. MDT: The teams’ two kickers, Matt Prater and Matt Bryant, have taken the field in full pads to practice field goals.

Most of the other players are back in the locker rooms, getting suited up.

12:55 p.m. MDT: Just received the inactives for today’s game.

Out for the Buccaneers: Josh Johnson, Sabby Piscitelli, B.J. Askew, Anthony Davis, James Lee, Joey Galloway, Greg Peterson and Luke McCown.

Out for the Broncos: Peyton Hillis, Ryan Torain, Erik Pears, Dylan Gandy, Darrell Jackson, Jarvis Moss, Josh Shaw and Tim Crowder.

12:57 p.m. MDT: There are also some starting lineup changes. For the Bucs, Byron Storer starts at fullback for Askew, and Michael Clayton starts at wide receiver for Galloway.

For Denver, Spencer Larsen gets the start at fullback in the place of Hillis.

1:10 p.m. MDT: Jay Cutler has taken the field, jogging down the sideline to applause from the fans in the stands.

He and Patrick Ramsey have begun their warmups.

1:21 p.m. MDT: The rest of the Broncos have taken the field to warmup for today’s game.

But also down there are a number of notable Broncos alumni. This is Alumni Weekend, commemorating the 10-year anniversary of the 1998 Super Bowl Champion team.

Gary Zimmerman, who is featured on the cover of today’s Gameday Magazine, will be receiving his Hall of Fame ring at halftime.

1:38 p.m. MDT: The Broncos and Buccaneers have finished their warmups and are heading back into their locker rooms.

1:45 p.m. MDT: Broncos alumni from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s have taken the field during the pre-game ceremonies.

Members of the Ring of Fame have marched out, escorted by the Broncos Cheerleaders.

And finally, members of 1998 Super Bowl Champion squad head out onto the field, including Bill Romanowski and Rod Smith.

1:58 p.m. MDT: The starting lineups have been announced, and now it’s time for the national anthem.

2:03 p.m. MDT: A pair of F-22 Raptors did the flyover, and now the captains head out to midfield for the coin toss.

Tampa won the toss and will kick off to the Broncos.

See you in the first quarter notes.

I am so excited and I can’t wait to see our guys just dominate… that’s all I’m asking for and of course a win, a HUGE win!!!!!!!

I totally agree with you BroncosRockdaRockies, you said alot in just a few sentences. I really do think the Chiefs woke us up and I hope it shows. I’m expecting Cutler to be a ball of fire with a rocket laser arm, as usual. I have some high expectations for him, I think everyone does and I’m sure he’ll live up to it the best he can.

Now, I don’t want to dwell on the past I just have to get this off my shoulders. The Chiefs are getting slaughtered right now by Carolina and I think its the funniest thing but all I can think of is why couldn’t we have dominated over them 31-0 before the game is even near over!!!!!!???? It just really bugs me and it’s been bugging me since last week. They look like the worst team in the NFL and yet against us they looked like they owned us. I hope the Broncos use that loss like gas on their fire… just let it make them more determined to win and take out their anger and frustration out on Tampa. I want this win SOOOOOOOOOO BAD!!!

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
