Broncos vs. Buccaneers: Fourth Quarter Notes

October 5th, 2008 - 4:17pm by Adam Zinser

15:00: It’s second-and-five at the Tampa Bay 25, and it has started to rain.

Cutler completes his pass for a four-yard gain to Scheffler, bringing up third-and-one at the Tampa Bay 21.

Pittman pounds the ball for a gain of four and the first down.

12:40: After a pair of runs, it’s third-and-two from the Tampa Bay nine yard line.

Cutler’s pass is incomplete as it flys out the back of the endzone.

Prater’s 27-yard field goal attempt is good, and the Broncos extend the lead, 16-6.

12:24: Finally the Bucs have a kickoff they can run out, as Prater’s kick is fielded at the three by Jackson. He takes it out to the 19 before being taken down, and that’s where the Buccaneer offense will begin their drive.

11:00: It’s third-and-two at the 28, and Garcia fires across the middle and has his pass intercepted by Marcus Thomas.

Thomas begins to return the pick, but he fumbles the ball and Tampa Bay recovers.

So now Tampa Bay has another first down at their own 12.

9:45: The Bucs face a third-and-two at their own 20 after Nate Webster stops a run short of the first down.

Garcia pitches the ball to the left to Dunn, and he just barely gets back to the line before being pushed out of bounds by Marlon McCree.

Bidwell to punt to Martinez.

9:00: The punt goes for 53 yards, and Martinez has a nice return out across midfield, but a penalty against the Broncos negates the good return. So now the Broncos will start the drive at the 20.

INJURY UPDATE: Bucs’ Linebacker Barrett Ruud has a knee injury and his return is questionable.

7:40: On third-and-three from their own 27, Cutler’s pass for Stokley is incomplete, and Kern must punt.

He kicks a low and fast punt, and it rolls all the way down to the nine where Jackson fields it. He is taken down a yard later by Koutouvides.

7:24: The Bucs face a third-and-two at their own 18, and Graham gets the handoff and goes 12 yards.

5:22: After a penalty backed them up five yards, Tampa Bay has a second-and-15 from their own 25.

Garcia finds an open man and gets the Bucs close to a first down.

Then on third-and-four, Nic Clemons looked like what should have been a sack. But penalties on both teams offset, and it’s third down all over again.

4:40: Garcia completes his pass to Bryant on a crossing route, and he reaches and gets the first down as he is taken down.

3:49: Garcia finds Bryant again for another first down, moving the ball into Denver territory.

Boss Bailey has been shaken up on the play, and he is being attended to on the field.

But he has now gotten up and is walking off the field on his own.

3:46: The Broncos have called their first timeout of the half.

On first down, Garcia scrambled for a gain of six, giving the Bucs a second-and-four at the Denver 39.

Then after a quick pass to Stovall at the sideline, it’s first-and-10 at the Denver 30.

3:00: Garcia fires a bullet across the middle, but it never gets close to its target as Kenny Peterson smacks it down at the line.

2:30: The Bucs have moved into the redzone on a pass from Garcia to Bryant, and now they have first-and-goal after another pass to Ike Hilliard.

2:10: Garcia finds Hilliard open near the left sideline and hits him for the seven-yard touchdown.

With just over two minutes remaining, the Broncos lead the Bucs, 16-13.

2:02: Bryant kicks a squib deep down the middle of the field on the ensuing kickoff, and Martinez falls on it at the Denver 14.

That brings us to the two-minute warning.

2:00: Rather than a run, which many would expect on first down with two minutes to go, Cutler fires to Scheffler for a first down.

1:43: After a six-yard gain on a Pittman run, Tampa Bay called their second timeout of the half.

Now it’s second-and-four at the 32, and Pittman rumbles for another gain of six and another first down.

And now Tampa Bay takes their final timeout.

1:38: Out comes the victory formation, and Cutler takes a knee. With Tampa Bay having no timeouts left, that will seal the deal.

The Broncos move to 4-1 with their 16-13 win over the Buccaneers.

I want to know if this is a good defense we have today or a piss poor TB offense?

  2. superbowlboundbroncos says:

Marcus looked like he was trying to be a running back, with the jukes to the left and right. Too bad he fumbled

  3. Cutlerizer says:

It is definately a step in the right direction for the D!

    Too bad he fumbled, indeed.

  4. KoobLis says:

The problem is: we STILL have no running game..

  5. jazzyfrizzle says:

i am not gonna lie, that thomas fumble ticked me off. Fall down you moron! And this commentator is a moron too. Dunn is stopped short by two yards and he says “it doesnt look like he quite made it.” he wasnt even close. Did I mention this is a well played game so far? Good for us. Way to go D. And Webster is looking great!

  6. jazzyfrizzle says:

NICE SPECIAL TEAMS!!!!!!!!! I’M LOVIN IT!!!

  7. jazzyfrizzle says:

    Can anybody say DOOOOOOOM!

  8. KoobLis says:

We need a running game.. So far these past 4 games, it’s been if jay cutler doesn’t make the throw, the markers don’t move. Right now it doesn’t seem like Selvin is it..

  9. SaloRB says:

KoobLis.. Tampa has one of the best defenses against the run, and we don’t have the best running game either… so we can’t complain at all

  10. jazzyfrizzle says:

    hey KoobLis,
try saying something positive, you are complaining a lot. We are playing very good.

  11. KoobLis says:

I am happy that we are playing very well fellow fans, I am just concerned because we have a knack of playing close games and this one is beginning to set into one more again..

  12. Cutlerizer says:

Our killer instinct does seem to be quite lacking this year doesn’t it?

  13. vinster572 says:

the game isnt on where i live but im watching the play by play. and it seems bly got beat constantly on that last drive, is that right ?

  14. chevyman2000 says:

As I said in the 2nd quarter we change what we was doing that was successful on D and llok what happens. Is are D-Coach retarded or what. I would love to have a D-Coach that had the balls to keep doing what got them there.

  15. chevyman2000 says:

I would like to see Pittman be the feature or at least feature him more.

  16. jazzyfrizzle says:

    B E A Utiful!!!!

  17. vinster572 says:

    victory!!

  18. vinster572 says:

    victory!!!!!

  19. SaloRB says:

phew… that was a good game

  20. broncos20 says:

hei cm’on we just won against a good overall team….
our offense didnt allow a single sack or an INT especially against a
team dat came in averaging 2.5 sacks 2 ints a game….thats impressive.theirpowerful front-four waspowerless….(didnt even hear Gaines Adams or Greg Whites names for a while)

the defense has my vote for this week for improvement…..Tampa didnt go over 200passing or 200rushing…congratulations…though there were some missed assignments……

Monday Night Football here we come!!!!!!

  21. 07elway says:

Now that was a football game. I’ll say the first half for either team was rather quite boring but our D held its own. A huge step up from last week. All I’ve been hearing about this matchup was Tampa’s defense for a whole week and we shut them up!!!! It wasn’t a high scoring win, didn’t expect it too, but we won and our D was completely on top of it’s game. We made the commentators completely shut up about Tampa’s D and made them start talking about our D and for positive reasons. We will always have room for improvements after every game but I was very happy with how our D stepped up today and it paid off.

I know Tampa has a good D and blah blah blah… but after this game, Tampa’s D is what???? Slowing being unfoiled and we took over them. I loved how we got 3 sacks in the first half. The first one to me wasn’t really a sack but they counted it as one but whatever, I’ll take it. I was hoping that loss last week would be used as motivation to get a win and not let it stop us. I also noticed that constantly the commentators were talking about how Cutler had to have patience today b/c of Tampa’s D and you could tell that wasn’t was he was wanting to do in the first half but like they said it paid off for him in the 2nd half and he played much better and we got a victory out of it.

See, what did I tell all you nay-sayers… you gotta have faith!!! I’ll always have faith in this team. Our time is coming and I can’t wait!!!!!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. jazzyfrizzle says:

    Amen 07elway,

Too many complainers, everyone is nitpicking this young powerful team, but you look at the standings now and we are 4-1 and SD…. 2-3, heck we have as many wins as the whole rest of our division combined. We are making improvements and getting wins, something we didn’t do much of last year. And all the shanahan hatersm slowik and jeremy bates haters, you all need to shut up and support this team. And I must mention it again because I continue to see a bunch of webster haters, the guy is playing some great football, making big stops and getting 10 tackles. he had 100 last year. I am excited to see how we play the jags. They have been tough for us in the past. But we are 3-0 at home this year. Lets hope Torain comes back soon.

  23. baileythebronco says:

you people must not realize they won lmao who cares if you dont get personal stats all that matters is the points at the end

  24. baileythebronco says:

broncos 14 and 2 you hear me. defense is going no where but up lets get some turnovers baby owwwwwwwwww broncos rule

  25. jazzyfrizzle says:

I like how the bucs never even threw the ball anywhere near champ, haha.

  26. Broncomania56 says:

Good job Defense. Thanks for hangin in there. Offense, where have you all been the last couple of weeks? Wondering when we are gonna see that explosiveness we saw in the first 3 weeks I know Tampa has a good defense, just missing the amazing offense that started the season. Make no mistake, next week will be even harder against the Jags. We always struggle against them. Go Broncos!!! Keep finding ways to win, the only thing that matters is winning.

  27. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

For not running the ball “well,” we did amass 106 team rushing yards. That’s pretty good, I think. This was a tough game, but the Broncos didn’t flinch. Marcus Thomas, get down, you’re not a tailback. We could have applied the knockout punch a lot swifter, but good game, nontheless.

  28. broncos20 says:

totally agree with y’all,,,,that was a sweet win…
defense was spectacular, thats certainly shutting critics,,we now have multiple sacks in one game….glad to see a lot of blitzes Bob…thats the stuff…
i think the defense is giving the offense a little run for their money..ahah..
    go Broncs…
i wonder how they’ll prepare for MNF against the Pats next week…Moss, prepare to see a lot of Champ in ur face…and Cassel,,prepare to eat grass..aha..jk..great game

  29. broncos20 says:

oh my bad..we have the Jags before NE..no problem..their passing game isnt that impressive..

  30. Broncoxxx#24 says:

What I tell you!!! if we cause more pressure on the q.b it will either cause more 3 and outs and or a turnover. We also had a chance at the interception but Thomas fumbled the ball and bucs recovered we need to take advantage of everything we can get “fumbles or interseption” or on special teams onside kick’s. Good offense and great special teams credit to Brett Kern, and Matt Prater. Defense was not bad but our run stopping wasent all that great.

Go Broncos!!!!!! 4-1. Jay all the way.
