Still dont understand the ilk comment…..and actually i was not talking about bbr or daddybronc….i was offended by someone calling me stupid…..to that i wanted to speak directly
I`m drinking the orange kool aid this week. HaHa!!
Non intelligent rather, I think, haha.
Here! Here! @at your 1:25 post Bay. If XXXII had been decided by the votes of the sportswriters and T.V. analysts we would’ve lost before we had ever taken a snap! I love being a Broncos fan! I love getting counted out and then relishing it later when we get to rub their noses in dirt. I have to say that’s part of the allure of Tim for me. Who better to lead this team that SHOULD be recognized as one of the great franchises in history but isn’t. He’s been winning his whole life, with haters telling him he can’t all along the way. I think he is a perfect fit for the Broncos. That last touchdown run against the Jets was poetry in motion.
Carnage – I was the one that used the phrase ‘Carnage and his ilk’ – mostly refering to Sndvl and Weimen – whom I also appreciate but usually disagree with their evals. Hence my guilty conscience. God Bless your mother! LOL
That was my post daddybronc. I’m interested in hearing what everyone had to say about it. He looked like a pure passer to me in that game. Carnage I see what you are saying now, but I still wanted to take the time out to say I really appreciate what you bring to this blog.
Daddy i normally dont watch video but i will….and as far as talent i didnt like Moreno…thought we should have had Orakpo…..even thought Miller was a great choice part ofthe reason i said 10-6……i was also stoked about McGahee….
haha @ carnage’s 1:40 post. Nah bro I’m just saying I see the difference between being pessimistic and actually just being a jerk for the sake of attention. If we were all just cheerleaders on here the blog would get pretty boring not too mention completely unrealistic at times. You represent the side of the argument that NEEDS to be represented. And some of your posts can be kinda cute in the dim light lol.
Well bbr i would say thanks….but that would probably be considered too positive for me….so i will just nod my head at the ipad
Ilk…..sounds creepy
One of these days Bay you need to stay up most of the night for a religious debate. Your understanding that people choose religions based on their continent of birth, could be debated. The use of Christian religious wars as Christian methods of conquest is a politically correct idea – but factually error, and completely revisionist. I have written multiple thesis papers on the subject – so my purpose would be simply to be informative. I know you don’t like the subject, but I think that’s most likely because bloggers tend to rant and say nothing of substance. I think I could do better. It would be interesting. Seeing as how Tebow is going to keep us talking religion for the next 10 years!!! LOL
No thanks, with all due respect, I decline the invitation, I have been very comfortable with my religious beliefs since I was 17 years old and I will never ever feel inclined to discuss them here or pretty much anywhere else, very happy where I’m at spiritually thank you and I can feel you are too and so is Tebow so all is great.
Word History: When one uses ilk, as in the phrase men of his ilk, one is using a word with an ancient pedigree even though the sense of ilk, “kind or sort,” is actually quite recent, having been first recorded at the end of the 18th century. This sense grew out of an older use of ilk in the phrase of that ilk, meaning “of the same place, territorial designation, or name.” This phrase was used chiefly in names of landed families, Guthrie of that ilk meaning “Guthrie of Guthrie.” “Same” is the fundamental meaning of the word. The ancestors of ilk, Old English ilca and Middle English ilke, were common words, usually appearing with such words as the or that, but the word hardly survived the Middle Ages in those uses.
Bay all I was saying about the odds thing, is that with a 1st year coach and a team that had been floundering in mediocrity odds of us being an elite team are not favorable. I didn’t see that S.I. cover but I can tell you that the team on Fox and ESPN both were posed the question “Of all the undefeated teams in the league who is the real deal” and almost all of them said the Broncos weren’t. Sportsnation had a poll that asked “of all the unbeaten teams who is the least likely to stay that way” and like 60% of the voters picked the Broncos. So despite what us fans thought (I know I was personally guilty of fighting for McDaniels to the bitter end based off of that 6-0 start) the whole world wasn’t sold on it. And as far as my “backhanded” compliment to carnage I was just being as honest and thorough as I could. There are such things as pessimists and skeptics you know. And basically saying that he is a skeptic and I am not, does not equate to insult in my mind. Now go ahead and site that ONE time when he predicted us to go 10-6 and tell me how much I’ve completely misjudged the poor guy.
I learned my lesson. In the future I will not touch the religion topic with a ten foot pole, other than the note how Tebow’s strong faith (doesn’t matter in what) allows him to be a more clutch player and a better leader.
Beyond that, I figure, live an let live. None of us really know, and if someone manages to have faith in something (other than something like, for instance, the supremacy of a certain race a la Hitler, kkk, etc.) then I say kudos to them.
p.s. OMG, I hope that doesn’t start anyone off on a three day rant about race.
Despite Tebow winning, Elway says Broncos still seek long-term answer

The Denver Post
Television cameras from the NFL Network caught video of John Elway standing and clapping after Tim Tebow’s game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the Broncos’ 17-13 victory against the New York Jets Thursday night.
This morning, Elway, Broncos executive vice president of football operations, again praised the Broncos’ quarterback’s final drive.
“Tim Tebow did exactly what he thought he could on Thursday night. When we get in tough situations, he’s a guy that’s going to be able to make those plays,” Elway said on his weekly radio show on 102.3 FM.
But Thursday’s victory – the Broncos’ third straight and fourth since Tebow was named starter – hasn’t sold anyone in the Broncos’ front office on Tebow being the long-term answer at quarterback.
When asked directly by host Gary Miller if Elway is, “Any closer to feeling if you have your quarterback on this team,” Elway paused, and answered, “No.”
Elway then pointed to the Broncos’ third down conversion numbers under Tebow as a key area that needs to improve. The Broncos made only 3-of-13 third downs against the Jets.
“I think obviously he’s making progress week in and week out. When you look at our third down numbers, those have to improve. I mean, that’s the bottom line,” Elway said. “We can’t go 3-for-13 and win a world championship. Those are the type of things we have to keep improving.”
I love the pic of the unshaven Fox! (I look something like Pernell Roberts when he played Trapper John MD) Gotta love a salt and pepper beard!!!LOL
Irvin talks Tebow and Super Bowl
By Bill Williamson
The Super Bowl?
Really, Michael Irvin?
In a world where many NFL analysts don’t believe the option offense that Denver is running with young quarterback Tim Tebow will result in long-term success, Irvin does – big time.
Check out what Irvin said on the NFL Network about the Broncos’ chances with Tebow leading the way:
“When I say ‘I believe,’ I’m talking about I believe Tebow can get this team to a Super Bowl because there has been in a shift in power in the AFC. It’s shifted to the NFC … We say run the ball, stop the run and don’t turn the ball over. That’s exactly what Tebow is doing right now.”
My take on Irvin’s thoughts? Less settle down and see how Tebow develops. But any Super Bowl talk at this point has to be in the infant stages to say the least. Denver is 5-5 and currently in second place in the AFC West.
Friday, the day after Tebow led Denver to its fourth win in his five starts this season, Denver coach John Fox said he wished Tebow would receive more support and be scrutinized less.
Well, Irvin’s words can’t be more supportive.
I have said all along that’s how Elway feels about the QQ and nothing has changed that, just overall only mini steps taken by Tebow to make his case to John so far is all, regardless of the 4-1 record, nice to see John being honest by the way, seems like he took off the politically correct answers’ veil for a second.
I find the Elway-Tebow dynamic to be extremely interesting.
Before the game on thursday, when they were interviewing Elway and they threw up the first 6 game comparison, Elway sounded honestly surprised. I think he forgot how bad he was in his rookie year.
Follow that with Tebow’s magical win against the jets – that had Michael Irving turn 180 degrees from “I’d be mad if I were on this team” to “Tebow! Tebow! Tebow! This kid can take them to a SB and win.” – and suddenly you have the first time Elway looked happy after watching Tebow Time.
I think Elway has finally been won over, at least for now.
Carnage predicting us to go 10-6 this season is a connundrum indeed, always has been for me since I pay attention as he won the season record prediction last year.
Now I want to see Elway’s 3rd down conversions statistic through 8 games lol. Bet it’s not much better than Tim’s.
alex, maybe you missed that posting by weatherman:
When asked directly by host Gary Miller if Elway is, “Any closer to feeling if you have your quarterback on this team,” Elway paused, and answered, “No.”
Elway didn’t get to see as many 3rd downs. Did you see his interceptions?
lol
To me the fact that he paused is because he thought of his answer carefully and had he said yes it would of been understood Tebow is the guy, and that’s obviously not the case, not yet anyway, so he said no and leaves the door open for the 2012 draft.
Even if for some crazy unforseen reason Tebow would take us to the Super Bowl, that won’t change Fox’s or Elway’s mind about Tebow. They’re still looking for the future QB of the Denver Broncos that fits the mold of your typical pocket passer. Uhh and it is extrememly early to be using the Broncos and Super Bowl in the same sentence. haha
No I didn’t miss that. Like I said: for now. If the broncos go winless the rest of the season, tebow is outta here.
But that never changes. Shanny was told after the SBs, “you are my coach for life.” Add in a few disappointing years, and it becomes, “Shanny, you are fired.”
It’s a what have you done for me lately league. But I saw Elway looking happy for the first time after a win, and I think he is happy with tebow. For now.
He needs to improve. All rookies do. Even miller is looked at like, “wow, if this is what he looks like as a rookie, he should be even more amazing down the stretch of his career.
If Tebow doesn’t improve, and if teams figure out how to stop what we are doing right now (they probably will, eventually), then Tebow will go out of the league soon as an oddity.
ah yes – it was alex that started all that noise on the religion bashing. I would love to have that rational conversation with him as well. As long as it stayed rational, logical, and informative.
I think you’re definitely knocking at the wrong doors, seems to me alex just said he would never go there again and so did I. just saying, time to move on from that, with all due respect to your missionary background, thanks for understanding.
Yeah. Sorry bout that. I should have known it would get out of hand.
Fifth grade me: it’s good to see you continuing to hang on my every word! Here’s the thing though, now that I’ve went through middle school, high school, the United States navy and college, I’m just kinda working on the adult thing these days so uh… there’s really no reason for you and I to talk anymore. I know you’re always hungry so I hope this last morsel I’m throwing your way keeps you fed the rest of the season. Peace.
Bay say for arguments sake Elway has decided that or is close to deciding that Tebow is the guy in 2012. There are a lot of reasons not to publicly cosign with him yet, not the least of which being that it would give other teams clues to our draft strategy. That being said I do think you mostly right. Elway probably isn’t sold yet. But I think he likes him and hopes deep down that he is the answer. But third downs and no third downs, if we keep winning it’ll be hard NOT to go with him in 2012.
No way that Tebow doesn’t start 2012 apart from major injury. I didn’t see Elway as throwing Tebow ‘under the bus’, but rather as hedging his bets. Frankly, he has to hedge his bets. He has to win. He only has a short window of opportunity to demonstrate significant progress before he is out as ‘a bad experiment with HOF players in the front office’.
No way Elway can be sold on the Tebow experiment either as it is a one-of-a-kind situation.
Orang – I think read the situation wrong. It wasn’t a situation where the Jets change their defense from what had been working all game. Rather it was a situation where Tebow had watched what the defense was doing all game and in the last drive, he only trusted himself to read the nuances and know who was the guy to beat, and to know what his options were on each play.
Tebow needs to learn to read defenses like that all the time though to help with his passing game.
If Elway was indeed growing on to Tebow like you guys say, when asked “Are you any closer to feeling if you have your quarterback on this team?”, he could of simply answered “maybe a little”, “I know a little more than a month ago” or even “not really”, but all he said is simply “no”, it just doesn’t sound anything like a vote of confidence to me.
Rather if Tebow was growing on Elway…
brian – right and faster. He’s way to slow on his reads and knowing who his ‘go to’ guy is on the pass. His slow reads have the effect of extra QB pressure on him – which affects accuracy and completion percentage. He is rushing to get the ball out of his hand and ends up throwing too hard on shorter routes which gives the appearance that Tebow is better at the long passes.
db,
I honestly wish you well on your desire to have that type of conversation with someone. imo, there is just too many people that are taught from too young of an age that politics and religion has no place in public conversation. which ironically leads me to believe that is the main driving factor on why those types of conversation are almost to the point of extinction. it is equivalent to parents talking openly about sex with their kids in the 50s. untill more people start opening their closed minds and engaging in conversation it will remain such taboo and offensive. both sides.
as far as the whole continent argument, I agree completely. just as if I were born in la, I would probably not be a broncos fan. its not guarenteed as their are bronco fans from la and raider fans from denver however.
I still think Tebow does not have enough weight on his forward foot when he throws the ball from the pocket hence he usually only throws with accuracy when he is on the run which puts your weight forward automatically.
I agree with you daddybronc in that whatever is going on with Tebow right now, he is a one of a kind player and it would hard for anybody to be sold on this “experiment” because there hasn’t been anything like it. Dawk, Champ, Zeke Bratkowski, Urban Meyer, and even Elway himself are saying the same thing: they’ve never seen someone like him or a phenomena like the one surrounding him. For an executive unknowns have got to be scary. When you’re trying to have success, the conventional way is to try copy the things that have been successful for others. Because honestly, for every innovator there are 100 would be innovations that fail. But the ones that succeed… boy do they ever succeed. And folks can say what they want but this leagues never been about doing things one way. Yes there are trends, phases or whatever but they change. I hope Tim continues to be what his supporters think he is and that Elway being the business savvy winner he is buys into the experiment for another year after seeing the body of work for 2011.
There is a new blog up, maybe you’ll get your wish there, some haven’t spoken their peace about it though and I would imagine it will keep going for a while if they go through the weekend posts.
Bay I’m not sure if you watched the video I posted but in Tebow’s last college game he threw for 482 yards and 3 touchdowns (plus he rushed for another 50 yards and a touchdown). To my eye – which I admit is no where near college scout caliber – he is keeping his feet under him and planting his front foot before most of his throws. I haven’t seen that out of him yet in the NFL but I have to think of it’s because he’s having to make decisions faster and reading NFL defenses is no easy task. As I’ve been saying there is no reason that reps and hard work can’t improve both of these areas for him. here’s the video again if you are interested. And skip past the first minute and 30 seconds or so. Carnage if you’re out there I’d still like to see what you think of his mechanics in this instance.

Steve – the issue for me is not a desire to perpetuate a discussion of religious matters. Rather, I have had to stomach without response many assertions as to sociological and religious facts that are just plainly not true.
I have no desire to persuade anyone here to my perspective on things, nor do I believe it is possible to do so. OTOH I don’t think that uninformed blogs should remain unchallenged and seemingly become the truth to those unwittingly susceptible to bad information. Therefore, if we wish the topic to go away, then it needs to remain as Tebow-esk platitudes that we agree to tolerate as long as Tebow remains our QB.
If someone has questions – I am willing to answer. I don’t think it appropriate to post my educational qualifications here – as folks can say anything on a blog. Suffice it to say, I am qualified to answer.
I wasn’t a late comer, and you were the one getting the cheap shots in.
bd and I were talking about hunting 1st,get your facts straight!
