Man , you guys are tough! I’ll give Elway an “A”. New at his job and no off season he hires the right headcoach and staff . Three starters in their first draft. Then , they take the 2nd worst team in the NFL to the playoffs and win a game in the playoffs. Great hiring already this off season with the contract guru and JDR. That’s a pretty good year if you ask me! Go Broncos!

Tim Tebows interview, Face to Face with Hannah Storm was a real inspiration. I`d like to meet him some day. Tims so down to earth, real likeable.

hey guys how would you feel about denver passing on a DT early and Drafting Mark Barron and then taking a risk on DT Jared Crick in the 3rd or 4th? before he got hurt he was supposed to be the top DT in this years draft

  11. shaztah says:

Morning all, hope everyone is having a fantastic day. I wish the draft and free agency would start already. That would give us a good clue as to what direction our team is taking.

  12. seweatherman1 says:

I am not sure they are even going to look at DT in this draft. I have a feeling the DT will come from FA, and the draft is going to concentrate on other needs. We needed DT desperately last year, and didn’t take any did we?

We’ll all be guessing until draft day, and we won’t really know what they’re going to do until they actually call the name of the 25th overall pick. It’ll be interesting to see what direction they go in.

  15. DenverCB says:

    Good Morning All.

Every year there is always one team that makes a splash in FA. This year im hoping its the broncos. We are on the uprise and thats a huge incentive for some FA’s to at least give us a look. Last year the Eagles, they took so many great players via trade or through FA. Did it work out? Nope… Missed the playoffs. Im not saying break the bank for all top tier FA’s but really look at quailty depth.
HB – I think trying to get Marshawn Lynch would be wonderful. With his never give up running style it would only compliment the best running game in the NFL.
TE – hopefully this offseason we can get Rosario into a #2 maybe even a #1 role. Maybe its just becasue im a fan. He has flashed ability but consistency is KEY
WR – We need to keep Royal and from what ive heard he doesnt want to go anywhere. I miss his old 90+ catches.
DT – Free Angency and if not, The draft. please get someone who can demand to be doubled. BEEF!
LB – Not sure if its just me but… Burfict, hes a baller. over look his attitude and we have instant improvement.
CB – ive said it before. Harris. But we need quality depth.
S – i dont even know where this position stands, ill let someone else deal with it haha
    Tthats just my two cents.

  16. Henryac says:

seweatherman1, have to agree with you. I’m not convinced they think DT is a severe enough crisis to spend too high a draft pick on it. Maybe a mid round pick but 1st or 2nd may be more than they want to spend. Barron is as solid a DB as I have seen in a long time. Not all that flashy but he always manages to end up in the middle of plays and doesn’t miss many tackles. Just seems to keep to himself and do his job. He would be a good, solid pick wherever you get him. Crick might be good, depending on his rehab from the torn pec. That will probably end up more a medical issue than skill issue. I just curious to see which way the brain trust goes this year. FA will give us an indication of what they think of the draft. If they think they can draft the kind of players they want and keep them long term, they probably won’t look in that area for FA and help will look at other positions. Should be interesting to say the least!

  18. OrangeTsunami says:

Of course, none of us really know what direction we’re gonna go yet, but I REALLY hope we draft a DT this year.. Last year our big FA signing was TY Warren and he never played a single down for us.. Defensive Tackle is by far the position we have neglected the longest as an organization, with Carlton Powell (who the hell is he?!) being the last DT we drafted back in 2008 in the 5th round… The time has come, which is the reason for the “Where’s the beef petition”

  19. seweatherman1 says:

If memory serves me, didn’t we have issues at SS position this past season? I have a feeling that they will look this direction for maybe the 1st selection.

  20. Bronco_Turtle says:

  21. Bronco_Turtle says:

I don’t think a SS is coming in the first second or 3rd rounds…

If we really want to help the SS position we should consider signing Landry from WSH… he is a monster!!!

  22. Bronco_Turtle says:

Last year the draft and FA were switched… if Denver doesn’t get a quality FA addition or trade for a solid DT then I really think they will take one with one of their first three picks…

  24. OrangeTsunami says:

seweather – I agree we need a SS, but what about looking to FA there? With Dawkins all but retired and Quinton and Rahim still wet behind the ears, I think we should target a SS in FA.. If we draft a SS, we’d be very young at the last line of defense.. Think we need a little experience back there

  25. 3rdGeneration says:

I do think we’ll take a DT in the draft this year since we didn’t take one last year, but I wouldn’t be suprused if we didn’t. Bunkley played pretty dang well, and we have Vickerson returning. Thomas is a decent #3, and I don’t think we got enough looks at Vickerson to assess. Ayers played DT occasionally and didn’t have the strongest showing at DE. It could be argued that a more pressing need is DE to replace Ayers and we could move Ayers inside. At the risk of sounding like a broken record our MLB position is our MOST pressing need IMO. That was our weakest position on the field. I realize a good D Line will make a MLB better, but I saw Mays miss filling holes and over persue all year. A DT won’t fix that unless they make every tackle. Granted when Mays hits someone it’s like a Mac Truck collision, but if he can’t find the ball that skill is wasted. Irving didn’t play enough to really assess, but the coaches obviously didn’t think he was ready.

  26. OrangeTsunami says:

BT – I brought up Landry a while ago, would love him here! Afterall, we’ve had some success with Redskins DB’s… LOL

  27. brian_schneider says:

A while back I though bringing in Bob Sanders would’ve been a good addition to our secondary. He’s oft injured but when he’s healthy he can be very good.

I agree with you OrangeTsunami.. FA would be a good place to look for an experience SS. I think we need an immediate impact player on our defensive front before a SS.

  28. seweatherman1 says:

My feeling is they are going to ignore the DT again this year. At least in the first couple rounds. I look for linemen to come in the later rounds of the draft. Initial concentration is going to be backfield areas. First round may even possibly be a RB. We all have to admit when McGahee went down, we were lacking in that area.

  29. 3rdGeneration says:

What are all of our picks this year? If I recall we don’t have a pick one round, but have 2 in the 5th?

  30. Tide Bronco says:

Hi guys. What about Landry’s Achilles? Doctor say he needs surgery, but he doesn’t want to get it. Could be a problem, but no doubt he’s a beast when healthy. Later.

  31. Bronco_Turtle says:

Brian… Sanders would not be worth signing for 3 or four games a season…

Landry is quality… He has been #1 on my FA wish list all year!!!

  32. OrangeTsunami says:

3rd – I agree about Ayers.. I think he could bulk up and move inside.. I’d be happy with a DE as well, or MLB.. Basically, to make me happy, I’d like to see at least 3 players drafted in the defensive front 7

  33. 3rdGeneration says:

seweatherman, agreed. I think it’ll go MLB, RB, DT.

  34. brian_schneider says:

Fox hasn’t been known for drafting DT.

I though Fannin looked very decent in preaseason before his injury. I think McGahee, Fannin, Ball or Johnson, coupled with a little Tebow I think we’d have a decent rushing attack. Our o-line really started blocking better which is also another place we need to get bigger.

  35. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hi Tide… I think if I had to pick between Bruton and his Achilles or Landry and his Achilles I pick Landry… Bruton was not able to practice much of the last season, and he may be coming into his own… Hope so!

  36. seweatherman1 says:

I would love to see them take Chris Rainey out of Florida. This kid can fly. He would be a huge compliment to our RB position.

  37. OrangeTsunami says:

Besides Landry, are there any other FA SS’s out there?

  38. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hopefully Ty Warren can contribute a little this season… would be nice to have him for 1st and 2nd downs… I don’t expect alot more from him at this point in his career, but I bet he can still eat up blockers at a Pro-Bowl level…

PS… I know hope is not a strategy, but it would be really nice to see something from this guy this year!!!

  39. Bronco_Turtle says:

    OT… here’s a list buddy…

  40. seweatherman1 says:

Here is the scoop on Rainey from CBS Sports:

    Overview:

An extremely versatile athlete capable of making an impact as a running back, receiver or special teams standout, Rainey emerged during his senior season to be the first Florida running back since Emmitt Smith to lead the Gators in both rushing yards (861) and receptions (31). He followed that up with an impressive week of practice at the Senior Bowl in which his playmaking skills were largely put to the test at wide receiver, though his only touch during the game, itself, came on a five yard run.

A highly touted prep prospect, Rainey saw action immediately for the Gators but was sidelined after four games with a shoulder injury and eventually redshirted in 2008. He saw action in 48 more games over his Florida career, starting 19 contests. The all-purpose star left Florida having rushed for 2,464 yards (ninth all-time for the Gators) and caught 69 passes for 795 yards, scoring 19 touchdowns over his career.

At his size, Rainey certainly isn’t a workhorse candidate at the next level. Some, in fact, see his greatest potential lining up as a slot receiver in a similar role to what Percy Harvin (himself a former Florida Gator) has with the Minnesota Vikings. If utilized as a back, Rainey’s soft hands and playmaking ability could intrigue teams, especially considering the impact undersized multi-purpose backs like Darren Sproles, Reggie Bush and even Dexter McCluster saw for their respective clubs in 2011.

    Analysis
Strengths: Perhaps the most explosive cutting ability and straight-line speed of any athlete in the 2012 draft. Can make defenders look silly due to his lateral agility and sudden acceleration. Versatile. Saw time as a running back, receiver, punt returner and kick returner for the Gators … Looks natural catching the ball out of the backfield and has shown the ability to track the ball over his shoulder and snatch passes outside of his frame … Has struggled a bit with durability over his career but is willing to play with pain … Relishes his opportunities on special teams but is not just a return specialist … Explosive burst led to his breaking the school and SEC record with six blocked punts.

Weaknesses: A bit of a luxury prospect for the next level. Certainly is a versatile, playmaking athlete but provides next to nothing as a blocker which means he’ll be an obvious focus of the defense whenever he’s on the field. Caught most of his passes on simple dump-offs and quick screens. Struggled tracking the ball over his shoulder as well as adjusting to poorly thrown passes over his career … Has had continued issues with his shoulders dating back to high school which will require a close look by team doctors at the Combine. Character red-flag … Was charged with aggravated stalking (a felony) after sending a threatening text message to a former girl friend in 2010. The charges were dropped as part of a pre-trial agreement in which he had to complete an intervention program …

    Latest News:

Rainey closed out his Florida career in style, blocking a punt that was returned for a touchdown in the Gators’ bowl victory over Ohio State. It was the sixth blocked punt of his career, which is tops not only in Florida history but also the SEC. A first team All-SEC selection (Coaches) in 2011, Rainey led the Gators in rushing yards this year with 861 and was second in receiving yards with 381. He had four 100-yard rushing games this season, enjoying his best outing of the year against Tennessee where he rushed for 108 yards and added 104 receiving yards-becoming just the second player in school history to break the century mark in both categories in a single game.

  41. OrangeTsunami says:

Thx BT. Good point about Landry’s Achilles Tide.. What about Branch from Oakland? I’d love to snag a player away from DAllen! LOL!

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

Hey 3rd, do you think that increasing production on the DL would help the production of our MLB? I think that with our DT’s getting blocked by one blocker our MLB’s didn’t have alot of opportunity to make plays because of all the opposing OL on our second level… I would be for upgrading at that position but don’t feel it is a real weakness for our team…

  43. 1nOnlyTRB says:

What you can expect at 25 is the best player in the draft no matter what the position. And seeing as how our team can use upgrades in almost about any position, they are all needs in a sense.

Also don’t expect a S, TE, DT or MLB (Not unless they are best on board). They set out to draft starters last year and they still believe those guys are it. If Dawkins doesn’t come back, I see them getting a veteran safety in FA maybe, but not drafting more. Rahim and QC will get shots this year with a real offseason.

Much like 3rd Gen I would go MLB/CB, RB, DT/CB. A DT early is possible, because they want an inside rusher. At 25, MLB burfict will probably be the best on the board, and if they establish he is not a risk he could be the pick. Still hoping Kirk Patrick falls.

Just my opinion btw, I don’t pretend to know what goes on in dove valley. For inside info, Greatness007 is our best bet.

    Later days, TRB out –

  44. seweatherman1 says:

We were lacking in depth at the DT position this past year, not to mention size lacking also. We need people on that line that will be like hitting a brick wall and it will take more than one to block them from getting through any offensive line. BRING US SOME BEEF!!!

I just don’t feel that they are going to look this direction early in the draft. I also don’t like looking at FA in this area. My feelings on FA are simple. It is no more than buying a used car. That car is on the lot because somebody doesn’t want it any more. You don’t know the reason until after you buy it and find out it wasn’t any good. Worn out, worn down and made to look real good, but…

  45. Bronco_Turtle says:

    :o

Speaking of Greatness… I have a question! it is regarding Mario Haggan. Are there serious plans to retain him, and has he ever been approached about moving inside? He has the size, and as far as talent goes I really like him as much or more than Mays or Woodyard (granted Woodyard is faster, and seems to make more tackles many of which come from his coverage duties, but Haggan makes big plays and is just as good of tackling)

  46. royalbroncofan1 says:

Good point 3G re: possibly looking at drafting a DE in this draft. Ayers did well against the run and that could be another option the triumvirate may consider. One thing for sure, Broncos need to generate more pressure to collapse the pocket and more sacks from that LDE position.

  47. Bronco_Turtle says:

At 6-3 274 I think Haggan would be a viable option for an in house upgrade at MLB…

I know its a reach, but it’s the offseason and we have 2 and a half weeks till the combine… I’m already Jonesing for some Bronco Action…

  48. Bronco_Turtle says:

and does EFX think that Beal will contribute this season? he is a speedy DE that we drafted last year, we signed him to a future contract, but what is the prognosis on him as far as maybe cracking the rotation?

  49. seweatherman1 says:

I was going to ask if it was September yet? ready for some Bronco football!

Man, this is going to be a long off season.

  50. Bigphred says:

New to the board, although I’ve been reading here for quite a while. Long time Bronco fan (’77). Hope i can add to the opinions and love for the Broncos.
I agree we need beef, needed it for some time now. Can’t make an objective pick for the draft yet, looking forward to the combine to learn more.
