Broncos Lift Off

September 23rd, 2011 - 2:10pm by Kenny Legan

The Denver Broncos departed for Tennessee Friday afternoon, which is a day earlier than usual.

Head Coach John Fox said that the extra day in Tennessee allows the team to get adjusted to an earlier kickoff. Sunday’s game kicks off at 11 a.m. MDT, which is three hours before the start time of the earliest Broncos’ home game.

“These guys operate on body clock, and to get that sleep after the time change and getting used to an earlier wake up for an earlier kickoff, I’ve found it to be more beneficial to go a day early,” Fox said Thursday.

Even though the team has an extra day in Tennessee, Fox said that the schedule will be as normal as possible.

“We’ll get into the hotel about 6:15 p.m. tonight, and they’ll have off typically like they do on Friday night,” Fox said. “We will have curfew, and then we’ll do a (normal) Saturday that just happens to be in Nashville instead of Denver.”

But before the Broncos boarded the plane Friday afternoon, they had a morning practice in Dove Valley, where Fox updated the media on the team’s injury report and the players’ game status.

Elvis Dumervil (shoulder), Eddie Royal (groin), Julius Thomas (ankle), Marcus Thomas (groin) and Demaryius Thomas (finger) all did not practice Friday and have been ruled out for Sunday’s game. Champ Bailey (hamstring) did not practice but is listed as questionable. D.J. Williams (elbow) and Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) were limited in practice and are also questionable. Brandon Lloyd (groin) fully participated in practice and is probable.

With the lengthy injury list, the Broncos could find themselves in similar situation to last week’s game when several players listed on the first team on the depth chart did not play. But Head Coach John Fox is confident other players can step up if they are called upon just as they did against Cincinnati Sunday when the Broncos pulled out the 24-22 win.

“Hopefully (we can do) the same thing we did last week,” Fox said.

For Tennessee, safety Chris Hope (shoulder) was limited in practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday’s game. Receiver Damian Williams (hamstring) and defensive end William Hayes (shoulder) participated fully in practice and are questionable. Receiver Kenny Britt (thigh) and running back Chris Johnson (ribs) also participated fully in practice and are probable.

Below are some photos from Friday’s practice.

No Doom and most likely no Bailey will not be good against Hasselbeck and Britt.

  2. rayjr26 says:

well, must say, with Doom out again, our pass rush is going to struggle again! especially with Tenn having a superior O line to the Bungles. Im going with 31-13 Titans. Orton tanks it, gets sacked 3 times, throws at least 1 pick, most likely in the red zone, and we have less than 70 total yards on the ground at games end. By Sunday night, even ESPN will be talking about how we need to make a QB switch soon. LOL
    Go Broncos!!
OFFENSE WINS GAMES, DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS.
THE BATTLE IS WON IN THE TRENCHES

maybe doom will be back next week….

  4. strandoftds says:

Fa to many injuries. We are still in the hunt for Stanfords QB Andrew Luck.

  5. strandoftds says:

Far to many injuries I meant.

  6. 1nOnlyTRB says:

If doom is out Champ should sit out too because without being 100% he would need alot of pass rush help which will be hard to get without Dumervil. Better to sit people than re-aggravate injuries. Gonna be a long one, not unless Miller can put on the pressure by himself. On the upside Ayers stepped up last game a bit which is great. Glad he is back at his natural position TRB

D.Thomas is out because of a FINGER injury, man why don’t they just cut the guy,McDufus made a huge mistake drafting an injured china doll !!!!!!

I mean Hell,I’ve seen guys play all the time with broken fingers, broken hands, dislocated fingers,WTF is up with him,he can’t play thru a finger injury,I’m sorry but if he has another injury besides that,I would be OK with it,but he shouldn’t get to ride the pine because of a finger, cut him!

It’s almost Beer Thirty here in the East..goin’ pubbin for a while, later!

    Broncos Country……this Bud’s for you!!!!!!!!(or Bud Light).

  8. imready says:

I think our pass rush will be better than some of you think. Last week R. Ayers had his best game as a pro, this system is helping him blossom. No , we won’t be as powerful as when the Doominator is on the field but I think Matty boy ain’t going to like playing the Broncos.
The offensive line played better last week and I expect more improvement this week. They are a young, talented group and will get better as the season progresses.
Our special teams are really special, advantage Broncos!
This game is a must win for me, the Titan’s are my sisters favorite team since before they were the Titan’s. Go Broncos!

@Rayjr26 Lol my thoughts exactly…..Orton always sucks in the red zone lol…..And everywhere else for that matter LOL

Keep in mind the tendon. I know they “say” he has recovered, but even more so than hamstrings. That tendon is about as serious as it gets. Could be using the finger in lieu of the tendon injury.

McGahee puts on his game face.

lol what if he was actually looking crossed eyed behind the visor?

If we’re that bad, what the hell good is changing the QB going to do, except satisfy the whiners? … one bright spot is the OL … no injuries there, yet … for the life of me, I don’t know who would come in – we really have NO depth there … and Fox must look at our “stable” of RB and wince – talk about no-names – Bronco fans must be the only ones who know these guys names … w/ Lloyd and Decker, we have great strength at WR, but not much depth … maybe this is a game for Willis to shine … if Lloyd and Decker play EVERY down, then THEY’LL get hammered … I think depth is our MAJOR flaw as a team – we’ll probably get blown out only 2 or 3 times this year – but a lot of losses will come in close games …

Why is it that everyone hates on orton? He is way better than tebow!! There is alot of negativity in BRONCO COUNTRY!!!! We’ll be allright!! Just have the faith and GO BRONCOS!!! BEAT THOSE TITANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. bfree2bronc says:

Hey! We’re in first place in the AFC West, how about we stay there…Go Broncos!!!

  14. doggsmart says:

I am still upset with the strength and conditioning coach for the broncos. It’s time for a change. Our team are not suffering from serious injuries, but muscle strains. We’ve had several former players complain about Tuten, but he continues to stay on the staff. We have TOO many players with minor injuries that may cost us games during the season. Hamstring and groins are a conditioning problem and we can’t keep blaming the lockout!

  15. TwoGunz says:

I agree we need to get rid of D. Thomas and put Eron Riley in, the dude is a Glassman, and its only his pinky finger. If he was a real hardcore player he would just tape it. Thats what Rod Smith, Ed Mccafery, and Shannon Sharpe woulda done, but then again they didnt break as easily either, They Were real ball players, They broke everyone else instead.

    Go Bronocos!

  16. baylinorcrush says:

I said we should of tried to trade Demaryius before the draft, so nothing new about all that for me. Seeing problems before they can hurt you, that’s the best way to succeed in any business, tried to live by that all my business life.

  17. Atwater4HOF says:

Tough to disregard the raw talent the kid has. The benefit of cutting him does not exceed the benefit of his potential. Signing bonuses are guarantteed, i still see a glimmer of hope for the kid.

Cut Thomas and call up Riley? Nah that makes zero sense all things considered.

  18. pokoya says:

Who is in, is in, and I wish the team luck. I feel most comfortable with a conservative game, (run game), but what is considered “conservative” is something that has evolved in the game, and I am confident that the Broncos are aware of it. If you can get first downs running three plays in a row, then run three plays in a row. If you can get first downs running two plays in a row, and then a high percentage, low risk pass, then do that. It is Hasslebeck that has my attention. I think with him at the helm, Tennessee will go ahead and attack what was a strength of the team last week against Cincinnatti — correct anticipation of play type. If they, (Tennessee), have success with a conservative plan, then I think they will go ahead and stick with it, because of their games ahead, (particularly Pittsburgh in two weeks). I think the Broncos defense will need to stay in their heads, and not overwork in trying to outguess Hasselbeck, because I think that is what the Titans will be working for.
