Broncos Sign Sylvester

February 8th, 2012 - 3:50pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Wednesday signed free-agent fullback Austin Sylvester.

Sylvester spent five weeks on the team’s practice squad in 2011, and was on the club’s active roster for two games — including its AFC Wild Card win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 6-foot-1, 255-pound fullback, originally signed as a college free agent from the University of Washington, didn’t appear in any games during his rookie campaign, which also included a two-week stint on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.

I doubt that Elway wants any Bronco to fail, I think he has been pretty genuine with his comments thoughout his tenure at his position. He is very careful about picking his words, he does not want the fans to doubt him in any way. You have to remember, he’s about getting the Broncos back to their former glory, no matter what it takes. There will be changes and some of those are not going to make people happy when they happen. He’s earned my trust thoughout his playing career that he will do what he has to do for the Broncos to win. Best to let his decisions play out before making judgement on them, it takes time for the results of changes made to sink in.
    Go Broncos!

  2. millertime2 says:

I completely agree Armadillo we sure need someone to help him.

  3. millertime2 says:

shaztah, that game was good until Orton for some reason just dropped the ball LMAO couldnt believe it, I was crushed LOL

  4. killerkod says:

    I agree imready……….

sometimes tough decisions have to be made for the betterment of the franchise……..and I’m sure some will be made, and not fully accepted by some of the fans.

But if there’s one guy who wants this team to win, it’s JE. He bleeds orange and blue through and through……….and any decision he makes has the best interests of the Broncos in mind. You know he wants to build a championship team and I will support him the entire way!

  5. killerkod says:

I can’t really watch re-runs of games…………knowing the outcome of every play just doesn’t excite me. I guess the thrill of the unknown is what draws me to sports and keeps me tuned in week to week.

Get ready to watch 5 horrible games Shaztah………and then about 11 more horrible games until the last few minutes in some. LOL

  6. millertime2 says:

I agree KK, I think Elway is a winner, thats all he knows. What ever decisions are made our bronco fans should stand behind Elway knowing his competitive nature. I played agaisnt Elway in High School down in the valley, Reseda, played baseball agaisnt him also must say he is a competitor.

  7. seweatherman1 says:

    Shaztah,

Have your heart pills handy when you get to game 5 and beyond. You’ll need them.

  8. strandoftds says:

Shoot, it has taken me quite awhile to play catchup and read this mornings posts. Good reads!

  9. strandoftds says:

Cody, you`ll be in my thoughts and prayers, be safe out there and thanks for serving this awesome country of ours.

  10. armadillo_orton says:

I have been blasted at work for a month…. Actions speak louder than words…. But Elway probably leaves alot of the coaching decisions and assistant hiring decisions to FOX… So, my beef is probably with FOX.. I hope he realizes that he must open his offense up if he expects to win a SuperBowl… His system has never netted him a superbowl win…. So maybe he should tweak his system…. His system will get you to a winnng record every other year when all the chips fall your way.. But I want a winning record EVERY YEAR…. His backs at Carolina never really caught that many balls… He needs to adapt…….. How many RB/wr/te screens did we run the last eight games, like eight? Please watch the Houston game from Tebows rookie year to see what you can do with some screens….. I pray FOX changes…. I pray…….

  11. strandoftds says:

And for hearing about some of you saying that Tebow needs to rest his body and heal up. Thats the most important decision he must do as hard as that is. If EFX told him to take a chill pill to rest and heal then he certainly should. All IN BALANCE!

  12. strandoftds says:

OT, your hilarious bro, Strand-ford. LOL! Totally crazy!

  13. strandoftds says:

Royal, how goes it? Looking forward to conversing sometime. It`s about the Orange and Blue!! LOL

  14. strandoftds says:

Henryac, I enjoyed your 9:29 a.m. post and wouldn`t want it any other way. CALL IT WISDOM! I`m a patient person.

  15. shaztah says:

Well since my memory isn’t as good as it used to be then watching the early games will be all new to me LMAO!

  16. royalbroncofan1 says:

What’s up strand… how’s everything going down South in the Springs?

  17. strandoftds says:

If Tim Tebow does get traded for whatever reason my heart would be broken. I`m a true Orange and Blue Broncos fan most of my life. I just so happen to like Tim Tebow for many, many reasons and am glad that he is our QB. Months before the draft in 2010 I was hoping that the Broncos were going to go after Tim Tebow as a QB and when it happened my mouth hit the floor and I was ecstatic about it. I still hope Tim Tebow is our starting QB for the 2012 season. But I`m still a Broncos fan first and foremost. I should be, when I lived in southern California during the 1980`s I wore my Orange and Blue to Broncos vs Raider games in L.A. in a very hostile invironment rooting for my Broncos. That says it all!!

  18. strandoftds says:

Hey dude, very well. Life is grand.

  19. strandoftds says:

I`m looking forward to the NFL Combine in two weeks. Then it`s onto FA which starts March 13th. Lets get the ball rolling!

  20. royalbroncofan1 says:

    That’s awesome!
Not to worry about Tim Tebow, he’s not going anywhere anytime soon!
Jags had their chance at him last season and passed. Starter going into camp and that’s all he needs for now. Lots of work ahead for him, but now doubt he’ll be up for the task.

Still waiting on In-n-Out Burger strand. Haven’t heard anyting recently.

  21. royalbroncofan1 says:

Check – make that two years ago for the Jags.

  22. strandoftds says:

I`m not concerned that Tebow will be traded. It`s just talk and thats cool. If it happens, I`ll be shocked and stunned. I don`t see it happening and thats my opinion anyway.

  23. strandoftds says:

If In n Out does come to Denver, I`ll be taking a out there. HaHa!!

  24. royalbroncofan1 says:

I like what DT/DE Fletcher Cox brings to the table, as he has the versatility to play both positions. Jorel Worthy might be a strong candidate as well. Just like you and many out there, looking forward to the Combine this year.
Not sure what Broncos will look for in draft but a quality DB and DT should be available with 25th pick. (we need both).
Don’t know if we’ll look to trade back to stockpile a few more picks or if we’ll stay home at 25th.

  25. strandoftds says:

oops, I`ll be taking a drive out to Denver I meant. LOL

  26. strandoftds says:

Heck yes, we need both. I can see us stock-piling too. It may happen.

  27. strandoftds says:

Fletcher Cox is a young man of good charater to boot. He`s a man of faith. That says something if he`s real about it anway. If he`s a gamer, I`m for drafting him. We do need a DT badly.

  28. royalbroncofan1 says:

Yeah we sure do! Seems like we have the same positions on our wish list this year just like last year. DT & CB (Dareus and Peterson).
    Glad Broncos drafted Miller though.

  29. seweatherman1 says:

The one thing that has me really confused about this years draft/FA is that we have so many needs that it is really confusing. Last year our first pick was Miller. Are we going to go with another defense on our first pick this year or will they look at the offensive line needs that we are needing so bacly?

  30. royalbroncofan1 says:

Good to read that re: Cox -didn’t know that.

  31. Tide Bronco says:

My belief, based on what Fox has said in the past, is that EFX willl take the best talent still available on the board at 25 (or wherever their pick happens to be on draft day, barring any trade ups or downs) and even in subsequent rounds, regardless of whether it’s offense or defense, but we’ll see. We needs both, I’m craving for some beef.

  32. DenverOrange says:

Apparently having a custom license plate that says SAUCED is a bad Idea! Who would have thunk it? His new plate will say Huffy! I hope he pedals his bike the heck out of town and goes play IR with another team!

Give Prater a new contract and have him kick Knowjob out of town!

    Go Broncos!!!!

  33. Henryac says:

strand, What’s up, Dude? Haven’t posted much lately with everything going on here but I keep up with my reading. Much as I would like to see a DT at #25, I suspect it may be a DB. That looks like the strength of the draft this year with 7 or 8 good DB’s coming out. They will pick best player at that pick and that looks like it might be a DB, possibly Barron at safety or Jenkins at CB. Time will tell.

  34. strandoftds says:

Weather, I hear you and fully agree. My take on this is that, it`ll take a few drafts to address everything as a whole. The FA`s we will sign are to fill in needs until after a few more drafts. Thats a good thing though. A team always should go after a few FA`s, thats life of the NFL.

  35. DenverOrange says:

To explain he was one of my sons favorite players.. What a role model

  36. strandoftds says:

I wouldn`t complain one second if we picked Mark Barron. Great tackler in the Box and has a nose for the ball. He seems to always be where the ball is. I like him.

  37. strandoftds says:

If we picked any player in the 1st round that played for Alabama, I`d be stoked. They are first and foremost taught to be sure tacklers and thats what we need. No worries if we draft a Bama player.

  38. DenverOrange says:

IMO OSU woud have made Alabama D look like Clowns!

  39. strandoftds says:

I see us drafting a CB in the 1st or 2nd round. I hear that Janoris Jenkins has stopped hang around pot heads. When he gets to the NFL, it`s a whole new ball game on and off the field. If we draft him, I hope he keeps his act clean, he has to or he`ll have a short lived career.

  40. royalbroncofan1 says:

You look at bleacher report and some people say we need to look at drafting another Center. I know Woodys’ not to high on JD Walton.
He did struggle somewhat in 2nd half of season. Other feel that Beadles struggled as well. Truth is they both did, but that’s part of the learning curve with zone and power block schemes this year. I think maybe we’ll look at adding depth with a later pick. G and or C.

  41. risky305 says:

Prater got a dui and became clutch \…hopefully knowshon can do the same

  42. DenverOrange says:

How many years are we going to be saying hopefully followed by knowshon’s name?

  43. strandoftds says:

A team can always find a good O-lineman in the latter rounds. I can see us getting a G or C around the 4th or 5th rounds possibly. We do need competition and depth on the O-line for sure.

I think we should keep it in that order too!

O.k. this is the top in each of those positions. What are the chances they will be on the board at our #25 pick?

  48. seweatherman1 says:

You guys do notice 2 of the 3 are from the SEC. Shows where power is I guess.

  49. DenverOrange says:

about the sane as knowshawn blowing .002

  50. Henryac says:

Depends on who you look at. The mock drafts are all over the board right now and its all woofin’ in the dark. Until the Combine, nobody knows what the draft will look like since the early entries haven’t been seen in any all-star games. I kept last year’s mocks and after the first couple of picks, everything went sideways for them, so I don’t put much faith in them. Fun to read but that’s about it. I think DO was being generous when he gave it that much chance. I think those guys are out of consideration at 25.
