Broncos Sign Sylvester

February 8th, 2012 - 3:50pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Wednesday signed free-agent fullback Austin Sylvester.

Sylvester spent five weeks on the team’s practice squad in 2011, and was on the club’s active roster for two games — including its AFC Wild Card win against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 6-foot-1, 255-pound fullback, originally signed as a college free agent from the University of Washington, didn’t appear in any games during his rookie campaign, which also included a two-week stint on Tampa Bay’s practice squad.

The only way to get the top player at his position is to move up and I don`t think thats going to happen. Stay at #25 and take who`s available at whatever player or position needs to be filled. My #1 player if I had to pick is Dontari Poe DT Memphis. Thats if he`s even available at #25.

  2. strandoftds says:

This is my Draft board of who`s avaiable at #25.
    1. Dontari Poe DT
    2. Mark Barron S
    3. Donta Hightower MLB
    4. Vontaze Burfict MLB
    5. Fletcher Cox

  3. Tide Bronco says:

Alabama D was ranked 1st in the NCAA. OSU was 61st….just saying.

  4. strandoftds says:

In that Order, so if Poe is gone before we pick then the next in line is Barron for our 1st pick, and so on.

  5. DenverOrange says:

OSU Offence would make Alabama’s D look like clowns no love for the Big 12

  6. strandoftds says:

I forgot a CB. If I had to pick a CB in the first I`d go Jenkins or Dennard.

  7. Henryac says:

I think changes are coming. I’ve seen some people project WAS taking Tannehill at #6 (?) Seems a stretch for a QB with less than 30 starts in college. That would shake things up a bit. If a run starts on OT’s, that could muddy things up. Hard to say right now but that’s a good list, strand. Any one of those guys would definitely help shore up the D.

  8. Tide Bronco says:

In that case, DO, you may have a point. ‘Scuse please.

  9. strandoftds says:

I have alot of respect for the SEC but I`m a USC fan at heart. Will be one of the tops next season with Matt Barkley at the helm. I can`t stand Lane Kiffin though, not a good person.

  10. strandoftds says:

We need a CB badly in the 1st or 2nd. I can see us getting a CB in either.

  11. strandoftds says:

The Broncos have so many ways to go. Fun to prject on. All in fun, just idea`s is all.

  12. Henryac says:

DenverOrange, I would point out that OSU’s offense couldn’t handle Iowa State’s D and they finished 6-7! They had their shot and missed it loosing to an unranked team. It would have been an interesting game but remember Oklahoma a couple of years ago? They averaged close to 60 points a game and got beat. You don’t always win a track meet even if you have the better track team. Runners have been known to trip on occasion.

yah i just hope last years rookies get better and we draft good and maybe have a decent FA class. Gotta keep BUNK,MAYS, but i still hope we find a beast at DT,CB,MLB and a future star at running back!! i think that goodman has to go!

  15. royalbroncofan1 says:

Also curious to see if any FA’s from Jags that may want to come play for JDR. I know there’s a couple of them.

  16. strandoftds says:

Good call Royal. I diidn`t think of that. Cool! Any DE`s you know of that are FA `s from the Jags. I see us getting a DE in FA, a gut feeling though.

  17. strandoftds says:

Thanks Henryac. And like you said, changes on the horizon after the college combine. It gives us something to talk about.

  18. strandoftds says:

I see some mock drafts having K.C. taking Trent Richardson RB from Bama. God I hope not. I hope Richardson is gone well before the Chiefs pick. That would suck for us. Yikes!!

  19. strandoftds says:

A quote by S.F. HC Jim Harbaugh; QB Alex Smith is our guy, you saw what he did in the NFC Championship game.

  20. BroncoRenegade says:

i think we the broncos will draft another DE I personally like whitney mercilus out of illinois and move doom back to linebacker to maximaze his talents. And then a DT in the second thats how i see it……….

  21. royalbroncofan1 says:

Sorry strand.. had to go run an errand. I’d have to look at FA list.

  22. BroncoRenegade says:

what website is the FA list on ?

  23. strandoftds says:

Walterfootball. I`m going to check it out now myself.

  24. BroncoRenegade says:

    ok thanks

  25. strandoftds says:

Two Jags DE`s. Jeremy Mincey age 28 and he had 8 sacks in 2011. And also Matt Roth who struggled with concussions last year.

  26. DenverOrange says:

    Henryac,

I would point out that just days before that game OSU had another tragic plane crash just ten years after one that killed 10 Basketball players and coaches. But I guess emotions don’t have anything to do with football

  27. strandoftds says:

No biggy Royal. I just now had taken a gander. Jeremy Mincey would fit in nicely knowing Del Rio`s scheme. Thats doable I think for a FA signing. We need a DE pass rusher big time.

  28. royalbroncofan1 says:

Thanks strand – was just looking it up and found Mincey. Knew there was a couple of them. Mincey looks to be a good find.

  29. royalbroncofan1 says:

8 sacks – sweet. Jags may try to re-sign him.

  30. strandoftds says:

Promising I think, and a 28 year old isn`t to old for a FA signing to fill in the blanks for a few years. Well, 8 sacks is good, decent enough for me.

  31. strandoftds says:

We`ll find out in a few months, huh? HaHa!!

  32. royalbroncofan1 says:

Raiders just released CB Stanford Routt.

Yeah we sure will – be nice to be able to sign him – Mincey!

  33. royalbroncofan1 says:

Steelers just released CB Bryant McFadden.

  34. strandoftds says:

If for whatever reason the Broncos try and move up in the draft, I see them selecting RB Trent Richardson, DE Melvin Ingram, or Quinton Coples DE. From what I heard, during the SR. Bowl practices the Broncos targetted Melvin Ingram in talks through the week. Intersting.

  35. strandoftds says:

The chips are falling. Time for teams to get under their caps. HaHa!!

  36. strandoftds says:

Who knows, maybe the Broncos will go after a CB in FA and in the draft.

  37. sndvl says:

I say no way to Whitney Mercilus….one year wonder. In general, I’m skeptical of most Big 10 D-linemen. (the O-linemen on the other hand!!!). As long as we get some beef for the middle, or a beast in the middle, I won’t complain much…

    Broncos Country Strong 2012!

  39. Kengro says:

I guess i will be the first to make some waves in all this draft conversation. I want us to draft Blackmon WR. OSU. I just feel like this guy is gonna be an absolute monster in the NFL. I think we need a big time reciever to go along with DT on the outside and put Decker in the slot. Depending on how the moves for the QBs fall, Blackmon might fall to fifth in the draft but not much more than that. Our chances of getting him are slim and none but maybe if a trade is worked out for TT and the Jags. In no way am i saying i want TT traded. Trust me i dont but i would be all for the broncos going after Peyton Manning. Reguardless of all that….I will have my eyes on Blackmon for several years to come because i believe he is going to be huge for whatever team gets him much like how i have watched my favorite pick of last year in Patrick Peterson.

  40. sndvl says:

Now that is one hilarious video Charles. Thank you sir!

  41. BeastFromEast92 says:
