Broncos sign Martin, waive Thigpen

August 26th, 2009 - 4:27pm by Chris Gentilviso

At most practices, three Broncos typically wear an orange jersey: the quarterbacks.

At Wednesday’s practice, the backs of the quarterbacks read No. 8, No. 3 and no number.

Newly-signed free-agent quarterback Ingle Martin expects not having a number to change quickly.

“I hope that’s part of the plan,” Martin laughed. “We’ll see. Hopefully the equipment guys will hook me up tomorrow.”

Martin was signed Wednesday, joining the Broncos after being waived by the Chiefs on August 5. Running back Marcus Thigpen was also waived.

A fifth-round pick (148th overall) by the Packers in the 2006 NFL Draft, Martin has appeared in one career NFL game – against the Bears on Dec. 31, 2006. He spent time on Tennessee’s practice squad from 2007-08, before finishing last season in Kansas City.

After playing two seasons at the University of Florida, Martin closed out his collegiate career at Furman University – leaving with school records in passing yards (5,751) and passing touchdowns (42).

Now, he has a chance to work with one of the league’s most exciting yet challenging offensive systems. And he’s up for the challenge.

“When you’re a guy like me, you just want an opportunity,” Martin said. “That’s what I’ve got here. Hopefully I can come in and show them a little bit of what I can do and make myself stick. But it’s going to be a lot of hard work and a short amount of time to do that.”

QUICK HITS:
Signed by the club on Tuesday, offensive lineman Russ Hochstein put in a full session on Wednesday, growing further acquainted with offensive line coach Rick Dennison and his new teammates.

  • For the second straight day, Brian Dawkins sported a blue No. 20 jersey. He still has a wrap on his right hand, but is no longer wearing an orange jersey designated for players recovering from injury.

Oh im scared now. All the Marshall man lovers will come out and say but hes a beast, he puts up big numbers (against bad teams). This dont mean anything if he is gonna tear the team apart. Perfect example, TO.

What ur source hometeam007. If true, i hope we get rid off his @ss. Broncos have put up with all his shooit for years and he thinks the team owes him. f em.

For anyone interested. I have a Brandon Marshall autographed football, with certificate of authenticity from NFL auctions and a Topps Turkey Red autographed certified rookie card. The card is rare, only 199 of these printed. Willing to exchange for 200 bucks or two tickets to a game. Just email me papas88063@yahoo.com.

tickets would have too be okay seats, not in the bleed nose section. Level 200 or 300.

      hey DD,
who is duckett? you were talking about our rb’s and who will play, an you said even duckett????

    6. TheRoyalBeast says:

A couple of people were talkign about adding TJ Duckett from the seahawks to the Broncos RB core

Calm down TorainATVfan, nothings been confirmed yet. With Marshall the media rumor mill is very loud with people creating drama for entertainment puposes. Case inpoint, the PR issue with brandon was blown outta proportion. sure it was wrong on denvers side ut still, over exaggerated. you will never find a bigger bmarsh fan than me but if he is disuptive at practice, thats different. Thats just unproffesional. I can understand not coming but to come and disrupt is just not cool. Even I would say ship him out but nothings been confirmed. But if its true, it sounds like he is curently trying to do whatever it takes to leave this team in which case he really doesnt care to work things out and yes…please trade him. Wont be mad at either side. Just do wats best for the organization and in brandons case himself. We move one. We already lost one Probowl player in the McD regime, I guess we can lose two. Stuff has just gone down hill since shanny got fired. I said it once before, woulda been happy with shanny staying and getting Nolan.

My source was a report on 104.3 the fan….apparently there is video to back up the story.
I have not seen the video yet, nor did they. But they beleived it without the video enough to comment on it. So, who knows. But, by Brandon refusing to learn the play book and not making any effort to work with the coaches. Isn’t that disruptive itself. He was only showing up to avoid the fines.

I still dont want them royalbeast, just cost too much to just throw away.

    10. Torain ATV fan says:

yes it is hometeam007. I especially hated reading when he was joking around with the D, instead of learning ter playbook, and watching the offense so he can learn.

    11. cutlersucks8 says:

Hey guys lost audio on computer did Mcdaniels comment on the marshall situation under video category Mcdaniels transcripts thursday and if he did what was it. Thanks.

    12. Torain ATV fan says:

hey royal, reason why shanny got canned, he wouldnt fire slowik.

    13. bronco-blaze says:

Whats going on with marshall..? I Tried finding it in earlier posts but couldnt. Something bad?

    14. HomeTeam007 says:

Right. I like having Shanny around too. But he would not get a D-coordinator that challenged his way of operating and authority. He went through 3 in what, 4 years or less. He was handing off more responsibility to the Offensive coordinator. He was geting so distanced from the team the message was getting lost. If he would have said; lets take a step back to what got us two superbowl wins and listened to Bowlen and the Fans….yeah that would be great. But hey, its time to get back to reality. Lets just give these guys a chance. They are working hard, I wonder if not the hardest working off season in the NFL. Full pads, two a days, lots of competion. All they need to do is want the win and work together. I will be happy with whatever the result if the do that and play with heart. Something I didn’t see last year. Guys were giving up on plays. alright, enough ranting.

      Orange Crush the Bears!!!!!!!

    15. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

Do we have elected Captains yet?… Are we gonna have the “C” on their chest?…. If we do have captains already, who are they?…

Thanks in advance for any help…

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP)—Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall(notes) appears unlikely to make his season debut in Sunday night’s exhibition against the Chicago Bears after missing practice again.

Marshall, who had offseason hip surgery, has missed most of the team’s training camp with a hamstring problem. He also has requested a trade after clashing with the organization and new coach Josh McDaniels over his desire for a new contract.

McDaniels refused to specify the reasons for Marshall’s absence from practice. He had returned to practice Tuesday, and McDaniels had said he participated fully in the team’s drills. However, Marshall appeared to hold himself out of some pre-practice warmup drills Wednesday—the only portion of the team’s workout open to the media and was nowhere to be seen on Thursday.

This is from DP on the upcoming game vs. the Bears.

“For my money, the story hasn’t been told in a manner where I’d like to know (all) the details about it,” said Cris Collinsworth, who will join Al Michaels in calling the Broncos-Bears game for NBC. “We’re all going to be out there asking questions, and my guess is we’re not going to hear much of anything from the principals involved.”
Collinsworth is a good guesser. McDaniel’s may want to avoid all conversation regarding his past contentious episode with Cutler, and Cutler may suddenly sound like a coach instead of his usual candid self when the subject is McDaniel’s.

I think Season ticket holders have the right to express themselves anyway they wish. But I have always disliked the way Collinsworth has called any game involving the Bronco’s, let alone his wish’s to make this preseason game a stage for something more!! He is a good example of the media taking this to the extreme. I almost hate him as bad as Gary Zimmerman. Anyway I for one who has been on the waiting list for 8 years to get season tickets would hope we the BRONCO NATION get it out of our system early then support our team as always and that is with first class backing. Lets Rock the place!!!
