Broncos Sign Hill, Davis

February 17th, 2012 - 5:57pm by Stuart Zaas

The Broncos added free agent wide receiver Jason Hill and guard C.J. Davis to the roster this week.

Hill (6-foot-0, 202 pounds) will enter his sixth NFL season in 2012 after playing with Jacksonville (2010-11) and San Francisco (2007-10) to begin his career. He was originally selected by the 49ers in the third round (76th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft from Washington State University.

In 50 career games (13 starts), he has totaled 76 receptions for 1,028 yards (13.5 avg.) with eight touchdowns. In 10 games (all starts) for the Jaguars in 2011, he recorded a career-best 367 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 25 catches.

Hill, who produced 148 career receptions for 2,704 yards and a school-record 32 touchdowns at Washington State, attended Sacred Heart Cathedral High School in San Francisco and was born on Feb. 20, 1985.

Davis (6-foot-2, 308 pounds) will enter his third NFL season in 2012 after spending his first two professional campaigns (2009-10) with Carolina. He originally entered the NFL as a college free agent with the Panthers in 2009 before being placed on injured reserve at the end of training camp during his rookie season. He was signed to the Panthers’ active roster from their practice squad in 2010 and played seven games for the club to close out the season.

He played 45 career games (43 starts) at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a first-team All-Big East Conference selection as a senior. Davis attended West Allegheny High School in Imperial, Pa., and was born on Feb. 2, 1987.

    How about Delhomme?

  2. BroncoAussie says:

I think playing for the Browns destroyed him mentally. He sees that rush and just panics.

  3. strandoftds says:

I hear nothing but good things about Quinns charactar and that he`s all about the team. Thats huge.

  4. BroncoAussie says:

Delhomme has been mentioned with us a lot. But I have a feeling Fox isn’t that keen on Delhomme. Delhomme was just the best QB he had at the time so he had to play him. Which doesn’t mean he secretly wanted someone better.

Personally I think Delhomme is past it and we can do better.

  5. strandoftds says:

I hate to say it but the Browns seem to do everything backwards. And they don`t spend either, not a good thing.

  6. SWBronco says:

you’re probably right about that aussie. is there any chance still will fall to 25 that guy’s a beast and from Penn St. which (aside from their recent troubles) has a great pedigree in college.

  7. BroncoAussie says:

Teams like the Browns and Raiders are places where talent goes to die.

  8. strandoftds says:

I wasn`t much of a Delhomme fan, but there`s that chemistry with HC Fox. Just an idea.

  9. SWBronco says:

well then…did we all say our goodbyes to DA properly?

  10. BroncoAussie says:

Maybe, maybe not. At this point in time our chances look good, he may be in that 20ish range and we can move up a few spots if needed. But if he has some monster workouts in the next few weeks all that goes out the window.

  11. strandoftds says:

    Total chaos with those organizations.

  12. SWBronco says:

That sucks…now I gotta root for a guy to only have decent workouts

  13. BroncoAussie says:

Good enough workouts to sneak past the other teams. Or root for other guys currently in the second round to have monster workouts and overtake Still to fill up those 25 spots.

  14. SWBronco says:

I like that second option better

  15. strandoftds says:

Just a few more days. I can hardly wait.

  16. BroncoAussie says:

I know only a few more days till the combine, but there is just so much footage to watch! I wonder if Rich Eisen will break the 5 second barrier this year?

  17. strandoftds says:

Fox likes the smaller DT`s anyway. We`ll know soon enough.

  18. strandoftds says:

LOL, with his shined up shoes too.

  19. BroncoAussie says:

The exception to that rule would be Kris Jenkins.

Haha Rich is just too funny.

  20. strandoftds says:

They could get Cox, Still, or Poe. All I know is we need a young stud of a DT.

  21. strandoftds says:

    Is it April yet?!

  22. BroncoAussie says:

There are heaps of options there. April can’t come soon enough.

  23. S.D.Bronco30 says:

strand I agree it would be great to have a cb tandem like that but I thik that NE prooved all a team has to do is throw to a TE all day and you are set. We need our young safetys to step up and cover better and learn how to tackle. I do feel confident that a full off season will help this problem.

  24. strandoftds says:

Well, FA is less than a month away. We`ll have a better idea regarding the draft, once the Broncos sign some key player/positions in FA.

  25. strandoftds says:

I want to see Fox utilize the TE`s more for Tim Tebow as an outlet. We rarely saw that last year.

  26. BroncoAussie says:

Also our LBs need to cover better, I have nightmares about Mays in coverage.

    JT hopefully is that dude.

  27. SWBronco says:

I think that Irving’ll step up and be a solid MLB in both coverage and rushing the line

  28. MANDIEGO says:

Take a look at Worthy out of Mich State. The guy was a game changer. He has what Alfred Williams loves in a lineman, a very quick first step and good instincts. I think he would be a great pick in the late first round. However, I would be shocked if he wasn’t picked before our pick.

I will be ok with whom ever we choose with the 1st pick, unless it is a QB. If we draft a rookie QB I don’t know what I would do. Probably puke and then pick up the phone and cancel my Sunday ticket….

  29. SWBronco says:

Worthy would be awesome but so would Still.

  30. BroncoAussie says:

There would be rioting in Denver if they picked a QB in the first, I hope EFX ain’t that stupid. We have more other positions of need, mainly on the defense.

  31. MANDIEGO says:

I feel like this team is at the opposite end of the spectrum before Shanahan was fired. We are a few pieces away from having a dominate defense, maybe a bit questionable with depth, but solid with the first unit. I hope that the organization can see how close they are and continue to put money into the foundation. With a few more solid rookies and a free agent or two we will be able to sit back for the next 5 years and develop the offense. Tebow and friends will win tons of games if the defense hold teams to under 14 points and wins the turnover battle.

Fox also has to figure out how to deal with the TE assignment. We have been killed by TE’s for the longest time. Gate’s and Gonzalas have been destroying us for years, and we still have not addressed the issue. No NE has caught on and we still have yet to find an answer!

  32. strandoftds says:

I don`t think EFX is that stupid, there would be a mutiny.

  33. strandoftds says:

    JT?

  34. BroncoAussie says:

    JT = Julius Thomas

    Hopefully not.

Mandiego I agree totally. We are at the other end of the spectrum, but I think the offense we have now is further along then the defense we had then. There is a lot of talent on that side of the ball.

The better coverage teams have been able to handle these TE guys. And the Giants showed how to do it. Generate a pass rush!

  35. skillz_inc says:

Julious Thomas i think about being tebow’s outlet

  36. BroncoAussie says:

We all hope he will, but he needs to get used to the NFL and not be afraid to get hit.

  37. strandoftds says:

Aussie, I listen to 850 KOA the Broncos station, and the word is that the Broncos have big plans for JT and Rahim Moore. they believe that after one offseason, they will both be flourishing. So EFX isn`t giving up on these two players, not by a long shot. I`m glad about that. words of David Kreiger by the way.

  38. Casinoroyal19 says:

maybe it’s just me, but in not sold on any of these DTs coming out this year. I mean they would fill a position of need, but right now I just do not think that any of them that will be there at 25 are the game changers that we need. I would rather use that pick on a LB(Burfict) or possibly aWR(Jeffery). Is anyone else thinking this way too?

  39. SWBronco says:

Casino…I was big on Burfict but have heard some many bad things about his character that even though he’s a physical beast I wouldn’t wanna take him.

  40. strandoftds says:

Fox wouldn`t draft a WR in the first round. Got to go D in the with our 1st pick.

  41. BroncoAussie says:

Personally I hope we look at corner in the first, Jenkins or Kirkpatrick.

  42. strandoftds says:

With what DoveValley went through with P. Cox, I wonder if they will want to take a chance on those two. They might. Both are great prospects on the field.

  43. strandoftds says:

It looks like Trumaine Johnson CB/s is moving up the charts a bit. Two weeks ago, I knew nothing about him. He`s a big topic as of lately. He`s tall for a CB.

  44. BroncoAussie says:

What Cox did you think would be a one off thing, plus he was a fifth rounder. Jenkins and Kirkpatrick both were pot, still dumb I know but Jenkins did his awhile ago, maybe he has learned from it, maybe not. Hopefully the combine sorts out some of these stories.

  45. OrangeTsunami says:

What up fellas? I see some solid football talk being had, good to see…

Routt in KC… Huh.. With Flowers there as well, you’d have to figure Carr is on his way out.. I’d love to see us sign him, but what about Aaron Ross from the Giants or Tracy Porter from the Saints as other possible CB options? No doubt Goodman’s $4M+ is better allocated elsewhere…

  46. strandoftds says:

I hope so. If we pick one of those players and they didn`t learn their lesson, thats a 4 game suspension. Ouch!

  47. BroncoAussie says:

Tall CBs are the flavor right now because of the TE fad. But you need to watch their bend, turn and hips. If the taller dudes can do that well they can also cover the speed receivers. If not then they will drop in the draft.

  48. strandoftds says:

    A method to the madness.

  49. BroncoAussie says:

    Me too.

What up Tsunami, of the three Carr is the youngest and we can keep him around the longest. I do prefer over the others. But Ross played well in the Superbowl.

  50. strandoftds says:

OT, when FA hits, theres going to be a feeding frenzy like never before I think. Like who gets Super Mario if he`s still a FA. HaHa!!
