The Denver Broncos announced on Thursday the signing free-agent guard Matt McChesney and the release defensive tackle Josh Shaw.
The 6-foot-4, 307-pound McChesney played at the University of Colorado and is entering his third NFL season. He joins the Broncos from Miami, which released him on Monday. He competed on the Dolphins’ practice squad and saw time in one game for the club last season before he was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 15.
McChesney’s only other NFL game action came as a rookie with the New York Jets in 2005 when he posted three tackles in three games played as a defensive lineman. He entered the NFL with St. Louis as a college free agent on April 29, 2005.
The guard spent his first three professional seasons with the Jets and also earned All-NFL Europa honors in 2007 while helping the Frankfurt Galaxy advance to World Bowl XV. He began the 2008 season on the Jets’ practice squad before signing with the Dolphins’ practice squad on Sept. 23.
At Colorado, McChesney earned honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference honors as a defensive tackle during his senior season. He received the Dave Jones Award as the team’s most outstanding defensive player and the Derek Singleton Award for spirit, dedication and enthusiasm.
A USA Today honorable mention All-American at Niwot High School in Longmont, Colo., McChesney was born on Nov. 6, 1981.

It seems like we aquire a lot of home-grown talent on the o-line. Also not surprised that we cut Shaw. I was a little surprised that we cut Alridge this soon. I thought he had a chance to compete for a roster spot with that speed. I read somewhere that he was picked up by the Redskins already. Not surprised to see Mustard, Haynes, Pope, and Russel get released.
yo what up broncoscountry? great addition. We need to sign CU+CSU football players. Keep our talent in-state. I wish we picked up Dave Anderson (CSU) a few years back. He would be a great replacement for Stokely, am I right or am I right?? I hope McChesney gets a fair chance. Our OL did an Amazing job, but did Polumbus+Pears get a fair chance. Pears might have been hurt. Not sure what the deal was w/Polumbus. keep those CO players ball’n for the Broncos. punches n bunches.
we need more blogs put one up about mock drafts we have 9 picks who they gonna be
#1. has to be either BJ Rajii or Rey Maualuga (highest rated D impact player this high)
#2. Patrick chung or Louis Delmas (must draft a safety this high)
#3. Jason Phillups (tough as nails LB)
#4. another big DL or pass rusher…Nick Reed out of Oregon
#5. Gartrell Johnson (RB from CSU is a hit the hole and run kinda back-perfect for Broncos)
#6. Colt Anderson (my fav player in the draft…pat tillman clone @ safety)
that’s it for now….punches n bunches…
