Beginning Saturday at 10 a.m. MDT, the Broncos can establish a practice squad of up to eight players. Every player the team waived — except Thompson — is eligible for the practice squad.

In addition, the team has the No. 25 waiver priority — based on last season’s record — to claim any players waived from other teams.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN

After Friday’s moves, here’s a quick look at Denver’s roster, position-by-position.

  • Three quarterbacks
  • Four running backs
  • One fullback
  • Five wide receivers
  • Three tight ends
  • Nine offensive linemen
  • Eight defensive linemen
  • Seven linebackers
  • Five cornerbacks
  • Five safeties
  • Three specialists

Nine rookies made the active roster — including a college free agent for the ninth consecutive season. Linebacker Steven Johnson, who led the team in tackles in the preseason and notched a sack and a forced fumble, and long snapper Aaron Brewer kept the streak alive. It’s the first time multiple college free agents made the roster since the 2008 season.

    3rd I say Hillman…

Yeah I really liked the article. I’m going t print it off and read it again. Funny how they got him to talk. I had somewhat of an idea what he was going through, but wow.

Broncos Country you mean, orngemnm? I’d help you out, but I refuse to play FF!! have fun

I’m betting the Florence move had something to do with freeing up some cap room.

  5. orangemnm says:

Thanks Cat! 3rdG, you might be on to something there, because it seems like florence had a good training camp. That move shocked me.

  6. Bronco_Turtle says:

? Salary Cap? no guys, he was signed this spring to fit into our cap plan… he was cut because he was routinely beaten on pass plays and despite what AB tried to tell you, Carter played very well in all aspects including run support… that is why he is in front of Bolden on our depth charter… Carter is the Nickel and Bolden was kept for Dime/Return purposes…

  7. Bronco_Turtle says:

I’m excited for Robinson, and sad to see another big, young quality reciever slip through our grasp, much like last year with Eron Riley.

I’m crossing my fingers that Brookings gets cut when Virgil Greene returns and the Leonhard is Cut when DJ returns… that would make me smile!!!

    B-R-O-N-C-O-S BRONCOS BRONCOS BRONCOS!!!

  8. Bronco_Turtle says:

Adam Weber is going to be on Tampa Bay’s Practice Squad… can’t blame him there, the weather is much nicer in that ‘Neck’ of the woods…

Speaking of weather, has anyone heard from SEweatherman? it’s been quite some time since I remember a post from him…

  9. Bronco_Turtle says:

Ryan Harris and Rafael Bush both found new homes as well… Harris with Houston and Bush with New Orleans…

  10. Bronco_Turtle says:

Also, anyone else cheering for Andy Roddick to win the US Tennis Open? He is retiring after this tournament, and his only Grand Slam victory was at US Open in 2003… It would be nice for him to go our a Champ!

  11. tlcat06 says:

    Harris is our nickel, BT.

  12. tlcat06 says:

And I disagree that Carter played better than Florence, but Carter is YOUNGER than Florence so I think that’s a huge reason we kept him. Don’t be surprised if he’s cut for Green. DJ and Green aren’t counting against us now, but when they’re unsuspended they will.

  13. tlcat06 says:

Oh I didn’t read that right, for depth, I gotcha BT. Sorry.

  14. tlcat06 says:

We’re going to sign OL Quintin Saulsberry to the practice squad. He was in Vikings camp. Then we’ll have our eight on the PS.

  15. Bronco_Turtle says:

Cat… you spend too much time talking with AB if you really think Florence played better than Carter. Harris is now the 3rd CB, and will play in many packages that are not ‘nickel’ (Replacing an LB with a CB) I can see where there is some confusion there but Carter is our Nickel DB and Bolden will play in Dime Packages is what I read today…

I wouldn’t be surprised if Carter is not on the roster at season’s end, but he was definitely the superior player this pre-season in regards to Florence.

  16. Bronco_Turtle says:

I also think that Harris will play a more of a hybrid role this season as a roving DB… he has experience at Safety in College and has shown a real ability to be affective stopping the run so look for him to be freed up some to play around the line of Scrimmage…

  17. Bronco_Turtle says:

Three days until real Football!!! I’m cheering for the Giants on Wednesday! anybody else…?!?

  18. tlcat06 says:

LOL!! That’s hilarious. I actually watched the games too you know. In fact, I didn’t even know until you said some thing that AB didn’t like Carter. I didn’t like how either of them played!

I still think Harris will be our nickel, we will have to see, but he did play it some in the preseason, which is why I said I think he’s going to have that role.

  19. tlcat06 says:

I agree, Harris is going to have many roles.

  20. tlcat06 says:

Strandsky, where are you buddy? Next week at this time we will be watching halftime!!!!

  21. sndvl says:

Harris isn’t the only one who will have multiple roles!

It’s perceived that we lack quality depth on the team. I believe we more than make up for it with the versatility of our roster. Harris for example.
The D-lineman provide a other example. Outside of Ty Warren and Elvis, the rest can line up anywhere along the line at any time. And how many of our Olineman can play more than 1 position? Besides Clady and Kuper, all of them. Including Clark who also played TE. Albeit as an extra blocker. But still. That’s the versatility. Ball, Moreno & Hillman can all line up on the L.O.S and run routes. DJ (I know many aren’t to thrilled to see his name) has played every LB position on our team. Von. Lol. Do I need to go there? W2 and Trev seem poised to make an impact not only on the D, but special teams as well. Same as Willis. Short of a botched onside and KOing a teammate. Bruton is a special team ace. See two blocked punts. And can step in at Safety. Our TEs will be receiver like on the offense. DMT was mistaken for a TE in a certain playoff game. I imagine our entire defensive backfield will show some exotic (at least creative) combinations throught the season!

Point is the versatility of our team appears to be a strength that may cause concern for other teams coordinators…

    Broncos Country Strong 2012!

I always cheer for the Giants unless they play us!!! I’m a Manning girl, have been for ages. Love them both. Kyle Orton is still a Cowboy!

Sndvl, I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about our versatility. People are not going to be able to figure us out and I love that about what JDR and Peyton Manning bring to the table!! EXCITED!!!!

FTR, Syd couldn’t make the PS because he played too many games for us. ;(
