Beginning Saturday at 10 a.m. MDT, the Broncos can establish a practice squad of up to eight players. Every player the team waived — except Thompson — is eligible for the practice squad.

In addition, the team has the No. 25 waiver priority — based on last season’s record — to claim any players waived from other teams.

ROSTER BREAKDOWN

After Friday’s moves, here’s a quick look at Denver’s roster, position-by-position.

  • Three quarterbacks
  • Four running backs
  • One fullback
  • Five wide receivers
  • Three tight ends
  • Nine offensive linemen
  • Eight defensive linemen
  • Seven linebackers
  • Five cornerbacks
  • Five safeties
  • Three specialists

Nine rookies made the active roster — including a college free agent for the ninth consecutive season. Linebacker Steven Johnson, who led the team in tackles in the preseason and notched a sack and a forced fumble, and long snapper Aaron Brewer kept the streak alive. It’s the first time multiple college free agents made the roster since the 2008 season.

I can see the Cowboys snagging Weber.

  2. tlcat06 says:

Smh… how did we keep Hanie!? Oh yeah!

THERE IS NO PLAN B! For that t-shirt please go here:

  3. Cdudbronc24 says:

we should grab clyde gates a reciever from dolphins and let go of josh moore. i also thought florence or sydquan thompdon would make it over carter.

  4. OrangeTsunami says:

I really think we wanted to wait and see if Weber would clear waivers, before we cut Hanie, which of course didn’t happen.. Weber was ok, but let’s not act like he was an all pro or something. I remember people threw a fit when we “lost” Eron Riley last year.. My biggest concern is the Patriots, who released Hoyer, pick up Weber for intel on our offense…..

  5. OrangeTsunami says:

    Any word on Gerell Robinson?

  6. imready says:

I like some of our young linebackers and more importantly think Johnson & Trevathan could step in a play at an acceptible level when needed. Both are tackling machines and Johnson especially can be disruptive. The o-line depth is a bigger concern for me, the reserves have not played at a high level. Keeping Manning healthy has to be a priority if the Broncos are to have the success we all hope for this coming season.

I know I’ll get slammed for this thought but if they do want to pick up a veteran backup WR, Gaffney may be available. He’s not flashy but he runs good routes and has good hands. He would be where he is suppose tp be, a big thing for Manning.

I, like many of you, would have liked to see the Broncos keep A. Weber instead of Hainey. He’s a play maker and chances are if Manning goes down the team isn’t going anywhere so why not keep a young guy over a player who has had mixed perfomances in a time of need? I rather have a guy with potential than a guy that you don’t know if you can trust to get the job done.

A bit suprised we didn’t sign G. Robinson to the 53 or the practice , wonder if he got snatched off the waiver wire? Think I might have kept him over Willis. Think they might have kept Willis becasue he can return kicks. I like Willis but he’s one I wonder if he will ever reach his potential. Robinson seemed to have a ton of potential and might have been able to contribute as a 5th or 6th WR. Would have rather kept 8 OL players and kept him on the roster.

That being said, I’m sure the office has thier reasons and there are many considerations that come into play that never reach the readership here on the blog. Sure would love to be a fly on the wall and really know what’s going on and why in those meeting rooms.

  7. tlcat06 says:

Imready, I don’t necessarily like Gaffney, but I do think that we are going to try and find another wide out in the next few days. Last I knew we were trying to do that yesterday and nothing came through. I both love and hate how quiet this team is now when they’re trying to make moves. I’d like to know what they’re up to, but at the same time I think it’s awesome that they don’t let anything out…

    *fly on the wall*

  8. imready says:

I’m not a Gaffney fan either but he’d probably come in at the right price. Who knows, maybe Donte Stallworth will come cheap so he could play with Manning. Manning is definately the x-factor when players want to land on a team that has a chance to be a serious contender this season.

I keep trying to get myself off this computer to do other stuff but I don’t want to miss out on any moves they might make. Great to be a Bronco fan this season!

  9. oldsouthstander says:

  10. strandoftds82 says:

I`d like to have Stallworth on our team. He`d instantly make us all the better. I`d take that chance on him. It would hurt us if it didn`t work out. He`s been clean off the field these last few years.

  11. strandoftds82 says:

So true Cat. Plan A for AWESOME!! MANNING AWESOME that is!!

  12. imready says:

Broncos didn’t put in any claims on the waiver wire. Guess we will see if any trades come about.

Not gonna lie… this is the Peyton I wanted to sign in the off season… Now I want to see Q KNOCK HIM OUT!!!!

  14. imready says:

I loved Hillis when he was here but he has proven since to be a total wack job. Hope he gets his head together so we can knock it loose .

All quiet on the western front……….

  15. Bronco_Turtle says:

Howdy ready… I also was a fan of Hillis, and pretty much that entire draft class. I still cheer for them

Sixteen weeks of fun and excitement coming up! I’m taking season record predictions if you want to make one! Also taking weekly score predictions starting Monday at 12:01 AM…

Gotta run, but I’ll be back around later

    VON MANNING FOOTBALL COMING SOON!!!

  16. Bronco_Turtle says:

Josh Barrett in particular I would like to see back here… I think he was a casualty of a regime change then a bad injury in NE that never let him see the field, hope he comes back somewhere and gets an honest shot because he kinda reminded me of Steve Atwater

  17. killerkod says:

OSS – Just wanted to clarify……

Both Decker and DMT with 1000+ yards receiving EACH.

    GO BRONCOS!

  18. oldsouthstander says:

Kkod: OOOPPSSS!!! meant 1000 not 100.

  19. oldsouthstander says:

The one phase of the Broncos offense that is really troubling me is the massive number of dropped passes. Willis, DMT, TE’s. BBBLLLLLLLEEEHHHHHH!!!!!

  20. killerkod says:

nah, we’ll be okay. If the receivers want to get the ball, they’d better learn how to hold onto it……….otherwise they’ll be on PM’s blacklist! hahaha

  21. strandoftds82 says:

I`m looking forward to seeing how QB Matt Barkley does for the USC Trojans.

  22. BroncoCountyBoi says:

I think J. Johnson is a good runningback the Broncos could use him they shouldn’t let him go. He showed some talent. Him and Oman.

  23. imready says:

I don’t usually watch college football but the Broncos have me lickin’ my chops so I needed a football fix. After just an hour and a half I remember why I don’t watch college ball. Two games on, two blowouts. Got to love the level of competition in the NFL. Now if we could only get the most qualified officials to referee the games.

  24. strandoftds82 says:

Imready, these refs aren`t even qualified to work a pee wee game. The NFL is squabbling over pennys and the owners, coaches, players and fans have to deal with mediocrity because of flippen greed. These refs don`t belong on the fields of the NFL and it leaves a horrible taste in my mouth on just about every call they make. These refs don`t even hold a candle to whos been refereeing these many years of NFL experience. Its a total joke and a slap in the face to us all. Get these refs out now!!!!

  25. killerkod says:

    hey strand and imready…….

while I haven’t always agreed with the ref’s calls sometimes, having witnessed this ineptitude of officiating from the replacements makes you really appreciate the job the REAL refs have done throughout the years. Goodell needs to save the integrity of the game and make sure that the REAL officials are out there for the games that count. Unfortunately I don’t see that happening and it might last a while. Seems as though Goodell is being overly stubborn over the whole thing and he wants to prove a point that the NFL doesn’t bow to anyone………

  26. Broncosfan in Sactown says:

The bottom line is we r better right now than we have been in several years. We have depth except @ QB. I have never been more excited for a season to start. Im projecting 11-5.

  27. tlcat06 says:

Kod, I am not ready to throw Goodell under the bus. We don’t know what’s going on in the meetings and as far as I’m concerned, they’re both at fault. I’m not siding on this one. I don’t like the replacement refs at all, but it’s call compromise and as far as I’m concerned, the refs aren’t compromising either.

  28. tlcat06 says:

I am beginning to believe that they aren’t going to do ANYTHING… No rumors of trades at all!

  29. killerkod says:

Yah, I hear ya cat……..Goodell is just such an easy target tho……lol

  30. tlcat06 says:

Well duh! He has all the power… But he really is trying to make sure the game is safer and you have to give him some kudos for that even if it’s getting safer than we want it to be! LOL

  31. killerkod says:

So we lost weber eh? Needed a change of venue I guess. Wish him all the best. Maybe he’ll get his shot someday. Def has some talent.

I’m wondering if any trades will happen before the first game. Must be tough though, to try and bring a new person in to learn a new system this late in the game.

  32. WieminCA says:

I’m definitely ready for some BRONCO FOOTBALL … here’s my prediction …

Ta da …………………………… Broncos will go 9-7 this year … I really wish I
could say 10-6, but so many will say that record that I might as well go w/
    something different …

I really hope the Broncos go 11-5, make the playoffs, and play for the AFC
championship … anything more than that would be OH SO SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!

  33. WieminCA says:

What’s w/ CSU beating CU today???? … and Nevada beat Cal – you just
    never know …

  34. imready says:

I pretty optomistic about the Bronocs record this season. Though they play many teams that were very good last season, that was last . With free agency the way it is with players moving around so much some of those teams won’t be near as good this season as they were last. One or two key players lost can have a dramatic effect on a team as a whole. I’m expecting the Broncos to regain their home field advantage this season , regardless of who they are playing I don’t expect more than one loss if any at home. The fans believe in the team and, more importantly, the team believe in itself. I’m saying 11-5 with anything less being a real suprise and I wouldn’t be a bit suprised if we go 12-4. We have some real leaders on this team and some great young talent. I only have one real problem this season, no doubt thanks to P. Manning we have many games that will be played on other than major networks. That will be a challange for me to view games this season, guess there is always Dave Logan , but it just isn’t the same.

  35. tlcat06 says:

When did the schedule come out? I think that the games being played in primetime is due to both QBs but that’s just my opinion. I actually hate primetime games because we don’t normally do well, but Peyton does so maybe all that will change. I just can’t freaking believe that next Sunday this all starts!!! Holy cow!!!

  36. strandoftds82 says:

One more week and its live bullets!

  37. strandoftds82 says:

I enjoy prime time games Cat.

  38. tlcat06 says:

This is me of the best articles I’ve read so far… He seriously thinks we can win the Super Bowl, just like me!!!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/02/sports/football/for-peyton-manning-one-pass-then-many-steps.html?_r=1&ref=sports

  39. tlcat06 says:

Strand, I looooove primetime games, I just hate that we don’t normally do well!! I should’ve said it that way.

  40. strandoftds82 says:

I actually agree. But in Elway`s days it was a totally different story. HaHa!! We know Manning is great in prime time as well.

  41. Bronco_Turtle says:

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8329638/division-iii-quarterback-sets-ncaa-mark-736-passing-yards

736 yards? WTF… that is awesome!!! and to see that 700 yards had been eclipsed multiple times in the history of the NCAA pretty much made me read twice…

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

Congrats Ms Tide! your boys in BAMA look REAL tough! they schalacked my Wolverines last night, literally Rolled right over top of them like they were a High School team… Sad!!! (for me)

  43. imready says:

I case you didn’t already know, WR G. Robinson was picked by the Arizona Cardinals. Didn’t figure he would make it through waivers.

  44. strandoftds82 says:

Good for Robinson. If any player besides Weber was to be picked up it would be Robinson.

  45. wolfedom says:

Thanks for the article Cat. That was a very informative review from a source that I normally don’t read. How can you not think that someone with such drive and purpose won’t be successful? I can’t wait for the Peyton era to begin.

  46. strandoftds82 says:

That is a cool article Wolfedom. I read all 3 pages, great read.

  47. 3rdGeneration says:

Should I get Lance Ball or Hillman on my fantasy team? I don’t relieve have a roster spot for both.

  48. 3rdGeneration says:

    *don’t really

  49. millertime2 says:

Florence has been picked up by Detroit, would have loved to keep him around
