no respect at all for TD’s number

  2. vabroncoguy says:

or Atwater…might as well let one of the rookies wear 7

  3. sgt_g1983 says:

What about the respect for D-will??

  4. K65777 says:

Yeah, what are they thinking? They should have checked with you first to make sure none of your favorite player’s numbers have been taken.

  5. Cutler2B-Marsh says:

Now i am just as big of fan as the rest but i can see why they let the rooks wear 27 and 30. I mean i dont see why 27 wasnt retired after Darrent Willias (RIP) but its just a number and i would actually have liked to have seen Moreno wear TD’s old 30.

  6. McDanielsDomain09 says:

if there gonna let any rookie were tds jersey number (though it shouldnt be allowed) it should be knowson moreno. A GA running back nd a good one at that but i guess that doesnt matter. not sure im ok with moreno wearing 27. thatll always be darrent williams number to me. i personally think the number shouldve have been retired after his death but i suppose. i do like robert ayers wearing 56 for some reason. lol i think brandstater shouldve been 4 15 or 9 cuh of the year. but theyre jus numbers … im ready to see some football!!

  7. no-pseudo-fan says:

What about Ayers wearing Al Wilson’s #56? UT LB wearing an old UT LB Pro #.

  8. beefdirkus says:

I hope Ayers can play as well as Al Wilson did wearing #56. Wilson was a good linebacker for a lot of years, he was the heart of the defense. Ayers, make Wilson proud and kick butt!

  9. odie333 says:

How old are you guys talking about #27 should have been retired for Darrent Williams? Do you not remember a fellow named Steve Atwater? I really liked Williams, but #27 will always be Atwater’s and if they retire it, it better be in his name.

  10. highkilla707 says:

27 or 30 shouldn’t of been given out. An I hope Ayers can play as well as Al Wilson because when Al Wilson left the D went with um

  11. roddoliver says:

Some fans are really stupid. We currently have 88 players, which numbers you want them to use? #27 and #30 were available and the rookies deserve a chance to honor those numbers. I’m totally against retiring numbers, I prefer to see a younger player paying tribute, honoring those who came before and succeeded.

  12. rev79 says:

roddoliver – I’m with you – By giving the rooks a shot at these numbers it can give them an extra kick in the pants to play with honor…

  13. BroncosLax says:

I’m Just wondering what everyone thinks of the Broncos possibly signing Brett Favre to a 1 year contract?

  14. Gallardo92 says:

I hope Moreno will honor the #27 and the Great Memory of Darrent Williams.
But I agree that #30 should have been retired a long long time ago…

Pay tribute to those players rooks!!

  15. WILLIAMS55LB says:

wait did we release josh bell? cause he wore #34

  16. Gray Caldwell says:

    WILLIAMS55LB –

Joshua Bell currently wears No. 25.

  17. bntbroncos says:

I understand the desire to retire players numbers…The problem with that is eventually you run out of numbers for players to wear, then what do you do? If you look through the Broncos history you’ll find so many great players wearing active numbers that someone out there felt should have been retired. With the Hall of Fame shunning Broncos Mr. B should build a Broncos Hall of Fame…This would honor all the greats.

  18. LANSANE2009 says:

Knowshon shoulda wore #30. TD was from UGA as well, and if i remember correctly, he was pretty damn good

  19. beefdirkus says:

    BroncosLax:
I do not see the Broncos signing Farve for 1 year. What would be the point, we are not a Superbowl contender. We have a lot of holes besides the QB. Farve would not want to sign with the Broncos anyway, he would want to go somewhere that has a legitimate shot of going to the superbowl that needs a QB- ie the Vikings, they have a good defense and a great running back, all they just need is a QB.

  20. bigvon says:

knowshawn is the man. I knew he was going to take 27 I was hoping he would take 32 for Walter Payton his favorite player of all time. If you are looking Knowshawn please change to 32.

  21. beefdirkus says:

I think LaMont Jordan already has 32.

  22. Deify_you says:

::Face Palm:: I cant believe some of you guys are making such a big deal about what number the rookies are wearing and saying its disrepectful to S.Atwater, D. Williams, T.Davis news flash their numbers arent retired and none of them have been called into the HOF. Its not like they’re wearing the same jersey with their name sewn over it.

  23. milehighmagic88 says:

It’s just a number people. It doesn’t mean the team has no respect for those former players.

Anyway I’m excited about the addition of Chris Baker as an undrafted free agent. He’s a true nose tackle that played all three spots on a 3-4 D-line in college. Not only that, I saw some mock drafters and draft “gurus” listing him as a second or third round pick because of his measurables and potential. I was a little worried about the lack of draft picks being used on front seven players, but we were able to get a legitimate NT prospect for Mike Nolan to develop without having to use a draft pick on him. Nice job by the front office.

  24. Dtmac3 says:

Come on… You can’t give out number 30. The Broncos need to retire it so that we don’t have to go through this every year.

  25. BroncosLax says:

I was only throwing out the favre comment because I think we have a lot of pieces in place, and really only need to improve on the defense. We have the BEST Offensive line in the league, and one of the BEST receiving corps in the league, not to mention a newly vamped back field. I think he could thrive with our team so thats just where i stand. Not to mention how sick he would look wearing the #4 In blue and orange.

  26. ramboskithefan says:

i really never wanted to see that number worn ever again..its going to wierd watching him carry the ball that many times wearing the 27…its just a little sad..cuz i mean…atwater def deserves to have it retired..but it wasnt then dwill wore it…now it should be retired due to the heart and soul and the life he put towards the denver broncos…thats all i got to say about it…knosean,,,your the one that shouldnt wear the number…its really his choice….just pay champ the funds to rock the 24 and let champ wear the 27 that makes more sense…

  27. tnalen66 says:

Did you forget who Farve’s agent is? That jerk Bus Cooke.

  28. emaldo says:

vabroncoguy if they stopped giving out all your favorite player’s #s, then they would have to wear 66 as a RB and 8 at LB, they been giving TD’s # to players for awhile and D Will’s# was Atwater’s first. it’s not that big of a deal. this year’s #34 might be the new #27…who knows. this should have never been a blog…it is what it is.

  29. tnalen66 says:

    Walter Payton wore #34!!!!!!

  30. broncosforlife80 says:

The only #’s that shouldn’t be worn anymore and be up in the ring of the fame at Invesco Is Td’s # and Al wilson’s #. No respect

  31. NastyNate says:

hey man they ran out of numbers and there are rules about numbers for ppl plus TD never got his number retired. Should have but didn’t…

  32. broncosforlife80 says:

Terrel davis was asked if hed want knowshon to wear his #. Simple answer “NO”. Mainly cause he wants knowshon to have his own identity.

  33. Marshallman-15 says:

random, but i think we shoulda kept selvin young and dropped jj arington
next we’re gonna drop andre hall, who is *kin’ awesome and deserves starting spot as RB

  34. Torain ATV fan says:

this is my opininion, football carries 53 people on a roster, plus all the extra players they require umbers also. If we retired every great football players umbers they would be using 101, 102, 103. You get the picture. Some people like Craig Morton (7), they were pissed when elway got 7, that will always contiue. But we can love both 7s. granted thereis only one number 7 in our mids, but u get the picture. maybe the retired numbers should only be hall of fame players.

  35. Torain ATV fan says:

if we think they might make the hall after retirement hold the number out fior a couple of years. see if they get in. maybe 10 years after, if not back in circulation

  36. Torain ATV fan says:

what do u guys think of that idea

  37. allsportsguru says:

TD said in a interview recently that he did not want Moreno to wear his number only for the reason that he thought he should establish his own identity. .

  38. mrbroncofan says:

i like that moreno is 27. for a long time that number was used on the d with atwater and williams. now it can gain its fame on the offense. anyway it is just a number and the only number i think we ever should have retired is 7. besides you will have to start unritiring numbers if we ritire to many. i just think less is more here. if you start retiring any number just because that player made it to the probowl than it just won’t mean that much. i like the ring of fame as a better way of honoring these players. a number is just a number but your name at invesco to me is the better way to honor these players. remember the name of the player not the number of the player

  39. UUB says:

Calm down guys. Let the cuts go threw. Some of these rookies gonna switch #’s. Probably was first come first serve. Probably just pick a # till preseason is over. Then some can get the #’s they really want.

  40. BroncosLax says:

I really see no reason for anyone to get worked up. In my opinion numbers should not be retired but that is beside the point. For everyone who is saying that there is no respect for using these numbers, consider that the players all though great wore the very same numbers after many others did? Also of the mentioned players, none are hall of famers, so at the point when they become hall of famers I would agree, retire their numbers but until that time give these new players the opportunity to write their own legacies. As for 27 the number should be reitred for the Broncos out of complete respect for Darrent Williams, who was a Class guy.

  41. 2champ4pickSIX says:

THANK YOU UUB! Said it for me, I mean remember it’s not even pre season. Let the cuts go through then they can really set in stone who gets what number. Cuz I think Moreno would have preferred Payton’s number if he had a chance.
All you complainers are the same ones gonna want Cutler’s #6 retired after he retires for the 3 years he had with us! D Will was great, but it was Atwater’s first and he had a longer, better career with us.
Retiring numbers is good in basketball. 15 players a year with any number 00 to 99 for any player! In football 53 man roster plus practice squad, IR, retired players, and set number brackets for set positions makes it tough, wouldn’t be long before each number at a position could be retired and like someone said a RB wearing a LB’s number!
Ring of Fame is a far better option, I’d rather have my name engraved in steel and stone then sown on a jersey more subject to elements having to be kept in a glass box where few venture. Around the stadium where I earned the right to wear that number for all to see is where it should be!
I really like Ayers wearing Wilson’s number, brings back memories of a good LB crew not just a good player, then I realized they both went to Tennessee too, awesome!
Anyway I’ll be waiting til the season starts to get a Moreno jersey, bound to have some changes by then! So not worth arguing about unless they handed out a retired number without permission from the previous player. i.e. L.A. Lakers when Karl Malone went there Magic wanted them to unretire his number for Malone to wear, but Malone said no, respected the history and donned 14 for year!

  42. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

Untill the day players can wear triple digit #s (which will be never), I don’t think numbers should be retired… There isn’t enough numbers… I was shocked to see K-Mor (Knowshon Moreno) wearing number 27, but c’mon, it is JUST a number…

  43. BRONCOBAILEY99 says:

    and another thought:

IT SUCKS THAT WE NEED TO REMEMBER A PLAYER BY THIER NUMBER, AND NOT BY THEMSELVES…

I REMEMBER D-WILL, TD, ELWAY BY THEIR HISTORY AND GREAT PLAYS THEY MADE, NOT BY WHAT DIGIT THEY HAD…

  44. West Coast says:

The team calles D Wills mother and asked for her permission and she gave her blessing. She asked that Moreno spend a few hours a week at her sons teen center helping the kids and he agreed.

  45. 07elway says:

Takes one bold and insane person to wear #30. Just one of those numbers that should be left untouched. I’m not asking or saying every famous number should be retired but this one… uh hello?!?! Same goes for Atwater’s number although you gotta say D-Will lived up to that number pretty darn well.

    With faith…
    GO BRONCOS in ’09!!!!

  46. Broncobailey99 says:

This number has no value to Bruton (the wearer of number 30)… he’s on deffense…

Notice what they do?… they gave a famous deffense number (27) to someone on offense where it has less value and significance… and 30 on deffense where it to has less value and significance…

What’s more annoying?… some rookie safety wearing number 47?… or a FB or TE wearing 47?… (that is just a scenario to point it out)…

We put jersey numbers to players the same way we put the numbers to offense or deffense…

  47. mrbroncofan says:

i hope people realize that td is not the last person to wear 30. mike bell switched to 30 his last season with us. i believe he asked td if he could since he really liked td. td sayed that he could. there might have been even someone else (not sure) that had 30 after td. but my point is this is not the first time. td is not the only player to wear 30. thats all

  48. Broncobailey99 says:

    THANK! you!…

I try to remember the player, not the number…

I think the players skill set and heart for the game is how you should recdognize and remember a player…

  49. Dynamicdave says:

Why is Bruton, a safety, wearing TD’s #30, a RB, and why is Moreno, a RB wearing Atwaters #27, a safety? Sounds a little strange to me?

  50. Broncobailey99 says:

    well it’s not… they’re numbers… numbers that work at both positions…
