Broncos Release Five Players

June 18th, 2009 - 5:07pm by Gray Caldwell

The Broncos on Thursday released linebackers Boss Bailey and Louis Green along with safety Herana-Daze Jones, it was announced. The club also waived running back Kestahn Moore and cornerback Rashod Moulton.

Bailey joined the team as an unrestricted free agent before the 2008 season; Green played 64 games with the club since signing in 2003; Jones spent the final month of the 2008 season on the team’s roster; Moore signed with the team as a rookie free agent during the offseason; and Moulton spent the majority of the 2008 season on the practice squad.

    WOW!
I had high hopes for Boss. I know this is old news; but man. He had some speed didn’t he? The NFL is a tough place to make a living. I wish the best to him and all the guys coming in here to try and wear the orange and blue with pride!

    Orange Crush!!!!!

  2. broncosmaddenchamp says:

i dont even believe he had a real chance to prove himself yet they just cut him like that Boss that is i was looking forward to the bailey bailey combination

  3. Marshallman-15 says:

Well, I thought we should’ve kept him for DE, but i guess he wont

  4. PJBroncofanFunk says:

It’s alright, Boss himself said it best ‘Once a Bronco, always a Bronco”

Down the line it may be just like Arrington, if he heals up and we have the space – they’d/he’d be more than happy to come back, and us to have them/him.

You should have posted the Brandon Lloyd one AFTER this one Gray LoL!

Just kiddin… As always, thanks for the facts.

  5. Broncobailey99 says:

I think if Boss gets w/ a team, and mainly keeps resting up for about a year, than the following year (2010 season) he’ll be ready to start after healing all up, then he could be a real pain in the but for teams in a future… (a pain for teams playing against him)…. I too wish him the best of luck…

  6. coloradocutler says:

If he heals he could be back but his knees have always ben a source of concern and with all that potential, If he cant stay healthy hes really not worth the cap space ! Would have loved it had he made it here and would have made champ extrodinarily happy but say la vie good luck Boss!! And thanx 4 the years green! 4 the other 2 who cares? Weclome Lloyd!

  7. kase78matt says:

bailey hasnt prove n e thing on neither team hes been on hes been injured every year of his career i like him he does work when hes on the field but man he cant stay healthy enough to try and keep him

  8. Dynamicdave says:

kase78matt, agreed. Great player when healthy… Problem is, that wasn’t often. Just bad luck I guess. Good luck Boss, wherever you end up. I was correct about Jones and Green. I never gave much thought to the other two.

  9. Cdudbronc24 says:

now is when the tough cuts come…….

  10. guron says:

Boss Bailey was not tough enough.

  11. allsportsguru says:

Well its unfortunate that Boss couldn’t reach his full potential. I truly believe Boss never really got the chance to show us what he was capable of. But the good news is that the releasing of Boss and Green shows us that the competition for LB must be competitive because if it wasn’t I would think Boss would have been given more time to heal. I have a good feeling about the defense this year. It may not be the Orange Crush that we once knew, but this new secondary looks fierce, and I think our LB’s are going to be knocking some heads around (and not like Webster losing his helmet neither). And as long as the D-line can stay solid I think we will all be pleasantly surprised.

Good Luck Boss and Green. You guys played your butts off for us and for that I’m very grateful. I know you’ll find a new team in the near future.

  12. kase78matt says:

if boss would sign to a cheaper contract or sign to a contract giving denver the rights to not pay when hes injured we’d be fiine with him no 1 can take away the talent this guy has. now what a lot of u may not see is we have 6 guys who can start and do good. ayers, dj, woodyard, andra, dumerville, and larsen not to mention moss, robinson, reid, and haygan

  13. kase78matt says:

i think thomas moss and either jordan or terrain will be let go by the end

  14. nolongerafan24 says:

I have been a broncos fan for as long as i can remember so over 20 years, i have never missed a game. Due to recent firing of coach shannahan and losing our star quarter back, on the brink of losing out star receiver and having already lost most of the players i enjoy watch including boss bailey and others. I think that many long term fans have lost interest in our team.. I for one will be rooting against the broncos this season and hope the team comes to it’s senses and gets rid of our disgrace of a coach.

  15. nolongerafan24 says:

by the way whoever’s blog this is, the broncos need to have a report from fans to the team but it seems nobody cares what the fans have to say

  16. kase78matt says:

nolongerafan24 im sorry to hear ull be rooting against us i relize ur angry i am too but we have no idea what this season will bring we did get rid of jay and may get rid of brandon but he also brought in guys like brian dawkins, andre goodman, and much much more. brandon is a problem hes always in trouble. shanny was great but his plays ran dry he wasnt a genius n e more. all i ask is give it a year if he ruined the team go against us if he has a winning season get over ikt the man may pull it out

  17. broncogram65 says:

I don’t believe McDaniels should have released as many as he has! He wants to get rid of the Shanahan era. But I will always be a Bronco’s fan. I am not liking the new coach and hope the best for Shanahan.

  18. broncogram65 says:

I don’t believe McDaniels should have released as many as he has! He wants to get rid of the Shanahan era. But I will always be a Bronco’s fan. I am not liking the new coach and hope the best for Shanahan.

  19. broncogram65 says:

    OOPS sorry about that!!

  20. TheRoyalBeast says:

    Nolongerfan24, I share your sentiments but….

Now im sure many have seen me defending players on here but for me to say i am so pissed over the firings that im gonna root agaisnt my team would be impossible. Same way many players play for their teammates even if they don’t like the coach is the same way fans should root for their team even if they don’t like the management is the same way fans should act.

I really feel everything that we have spent time creating is falling apart before my eyes but Bmarsh is technically still with us. And cutler is a damn shame but i don’t fret over stuff i can’t control.

Boss was great when healthy. I was really happy about the bailey reunion. too bad it was short lived. Louis Green has been with us so much on and off that I don’t know what a team without him is like lol. Good luck to them all.

    ORANGE CRUSH ALL DAY!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  21. nolongerafan24 says:

I understand what you mean by being loyal but the thing is there is nothing left of the broncos to be loyal too- it’s not the same team by a long shot

  22. Cdudbronc24 says:

nolongerfan24, If you bail on your team then you were never a fan. you can’t quit on your team because a few guys that you like were let go. If you’re a fan of the players on the team, then go to their website and tell them how great they are. If you’re a fan of the Broncos, then stay on this website and give your opinion.

win or loose, I will always bleed orange and blue!

  23. kase78matt says:

i live in chicago i dont get broncos games out here i get bears im gunna have to see jay cutler succeed i love the qb but Broncos are my life its gunna hurt seein him throw for a team other then denver and i blame mcdaniels 100% for losing him but i have faith. our d got better by the players we got on it and jay had the weapons to make him who he was these weapons will make orton look great we will all soon forget these players who left.

  24. TheRoyalBeast says:

I feel you. I am feeling really hurt that teams are benefittign like hell from our misfortunre but all I can do is root for Cuter (yea i said it) wherever he goes and brandon wherever he ends up but Im a broncos fan for life. It just hurts so much that all this coulda been avoided, startign with the shanny firing.

I want a winning team too but at what cost broncos fans, if at the end of the day we can’t recognize our team anymore with no guarantees we are gonna win the Superbowl. I root hard for the team but more so for specific players cuz i believe they have put their everything and hearts out there and deserve it. that’s hard to do when they are all slowly getting fired anf are skilled beyond their years. Thats my humble opinion.

    ORANGE CRUSH ALL DAY!!!
    GO BRONCOS!!!

  25. nolongerafan24 says:

no one can say that the loyal fans are leaving because the team isn’t having winning seasons, honestly we haven’t had many since 1999 but who wants to be a fan when mcdaniels is here? does anyone like him? how could you cheer for that?

  26. Broncomania56 says:

nolongerfan24, you stated you enjoyed watching Boss Bailey play? He really never played. We have no idea of his ability because he is injury prone. If your no longer a fan before the season gets started, I don’t want to see “imafanagain24 when this BRONCOS TEAM performs above everyones expectations.

Cutler was a punk, a talented football player but a punk, a whiney snot nosed brat that did not give a crap about the fans. As for Marshall, he wants more money because he knows he’s likely to screw up again and wants to be paid, “just in case”. These guys are talented, no doubt, but it’s time folks wake up and realize its a privelage to play in the NFL. NFL conduct policy will separate the idiots form the smart ones. Give a kid Millions with no discipline, thats not a smart business move, let him prove he can grow and learn from his mistakes. nolongerfan24, you were never really a fan to begin with, stay away, stay far away, I for one am excited about the new Broncos attitude. I loved Mike Shannahan, however he lost that spark, the desire to make his players the best. Our offense was ranked #2, but overall our performances were inconsistent. Shanahan’s offense was stale and everyone had figured it out. It’s time to let Josh McDaniels be the coach. He is the leader of this team now, see what happens everyone, you just might be surprised.

  27. Cdudbronc24 says:

you can’t be mad at McDaniels before he even coached a game. If by some magical way we went 16-0 i guaranteed all you people who said “you hated McDaniels and will never again root for our team” will be rooting for our team again. just give him a chance.

  28. BradJamesBroncoFan says:

If you’re no longer a fan, you’ll regret your decision shortly. Broncos fans have always been the NFL’s best. Here in Utah, where I live and from Calgary-El Paso (perhaps even farther north-south) and Reno-Omaha many NFL fans call the Broncos their favorite team. We’ve taken our lumps at times but the time has come to reassert ourselves atop the NFL once again. Everybody currently with us will make great contributions and all will be well.

  29. scotto291 says:

bobby turner is still here. he is probably more key to the broncos success the broncos have had over the last 10-15 years than anyone else.

  30. alwayz 7 says:

you can’t be mad at McDaniels before he even coached a game?

You alson can’t praise this goofball before he’s coached a game either.
If we win with him then of course he will have proved us all wrong. I’ll admit I was wrong and enjoy the success.

I just think the broncos have done a good job of trying to sell broncos fans that Shanahan is washed up, Cutler’s a punk or whatever and Marshalls a cancer. None of this is true.

This is the time of year teams are trying to aquire proven pro-bowl caliber players NOT getting rid of them!

  31. broncofanlvnm says:

nolongerafan24 is not, never was or will be a Broncos fan with comments like that. He or she is either a Raiders or Chargers fan trying to get the dander up of the true Broncos fans.

  32. Dynamicdave says:

nolongerafan24, huh? I hate to say this but you are speaking for yourself because nobody here is jumping on your bandwagon.

“who wants to be a fan when mcdaniels is here? does anyone like him?”

I want to be a fan while McD is here and yes I do like him as a coach. I think you need to reevaluate your post and ask yourself if you’re just speaking out of frustration or do you really mean it? If you really mean it then there really isn’t any reason to post on a Denver Broncos blog anymore, is there? I think you need to calm down and quit acting bandwagon about it. You know you like the Broncos but you’re dwelling and magnifying everything bad and squashing anything good. Come back to the light… Follow the light….

  33. Dynamicdave says:

nolongerafan24 said: “by the way whoever’s blog this is, the broncos need to have a report from fans to the team but it seems nobody cares what the fans have to say”

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say? Dumervil rights articles to the fans and gives updates? So does ex Bronco, Mark Cooper. I don’t know what you would expect but go to other sites to talk to the Broncos staff if you can find one. Let us know how that turns out….

  34. ShannyGone? says:

I agree with nolongerafan24 about not liking McDaniels or the new system and management. Mr. B made a bad decision in firing Shanny, but choosing McDaniels was the worst decision of his life. Josh would be the last man I would choose for the job. However, I will ALWAYS root for the team, no matter how bad McDaniels screws it up. Some good advice for nolongerafan24: Don’t give up your team and root against them. Just do what I’m gonna do.
    DON’T EVEN WATCH THE GAMES!!!
Well, if we suck of coarse, not if we are winning.

  35. kase78matt says:

Dynamicdave hes sayin we need a blog lik coop and doom get where we write to the owner and coaches. this is our team if we dont show up to the games and buy there merchandise there is no broncos

  36. broncogodd says:

All you dougters of Kyle Orton Check this video of him leading the bears on a 99yd scoring drive with an absolut rocket pass at the end to score.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrAJNQ_e8Jk&feature=related

  37. Broncobailey99 says:

    nice vid broncogodd…

But before anyone says “well it was against the Lions”… It doesn’t matter.. Because he saw the opportunity and took it… he found the Lion’s mistakes and used them to his advangtage…

  38. Atwater27Smith80 says:

Glad Bobby Turner is still the RB coach cause he is the man. Another 1,000 yd rushing season coming up I can taste it.

  39. bronco-blaze says:

lol i like mcdaniels? im rooting for MCdenver…I support his changes. Look i was a little sceptical at first also, because this isnt the same denver bronco team. Every one is getting cut, fired, or crying and becoming a bear. HOWEVER! What is the real broncos? Hasnt this team been changing since 2000? I support this team through the hard and the bads, i support Denver, and no matter who wears the Bronco jersy and helmet they are playing for us! Loyal fans, like many of you are, will continue to follow who ever gets brought in because you want this team to succeed. Why have a bunch of cry babies on the team compared to champions! Im excited to see this season, not because i dont expect us to make the play offs, but because i feel this is the begining of a new era..A new era of not being embarrised or giving up a 17+ pt lead in the second half like Mr. Shannahan started to do. (dont get me wrong i love Shanny, and im not bad mouthing him in any way)

Dont you see, in times like this us fans support the team, and the real fans stay through the hardships! Like posted above by boss, once a bronco always a bronco. For us, once a Bronco fan, ALWAYS a Bronco fan!

  40. broncos72 says:

I’m not too surprised about the chases and the releasing of Boss. He just want cutting it so he got cut. That is what happens in football. I trust that McDaniels is making the best decision he can. He and his coaching staff obviously see and know more than we do as fans. I became a little worried with McDaniels after the Cutler deal but I have to stand by McD and trust that he is making the best and right decisions to make our team better. I’m a true broncos fan, always have, always will. I think over the next few seasons we’ll be back in the running. Don’t get me wrong, I love Shanahan and hated seeing him go but Shanny couldn’t last forever. There was going to be a coaching change sooner or later so why not sooner. Unfortunatly Shanny didn’t take us to the Super Bowl in any of the last 9 seasons so it was time for a change. Bronco fans keep your heads up and stand by your new coach. GO BRONCOS!!!

  41. lostfan says:

hey guys, if bmarsh wants out, i say let bowlen call up one of his old cronies in canada and trade bmarsh to the cfl and in return get a few football players that are more centered on playing football then slapping their women around. does anyone remember clarence kay? he played for the broncos for about 9 years and was arrested about a dozen times, all for beating on his women………sounds like bmarsh is nothing but another ckay in training.

  42. brian_schneider says:

What’s all this talk about bailing on the team?? That’s sounds like Raiders fan squabbling. It doesn’t matter who is on the team, who is coaching the team, it you’re a fan your a fan, if you’re not you’re in the wrong place. You may not like everything that happens to the team but you stick by your team through hell or high water..or worse an 0-16 Lions team. I have a buddy that is a Lions fan and all through the season I never heard him once say he didn’t like the Lions or he didn’t want to support them or anything like that. It’s really sad to even hear that kind of talk on this website. Sure we can vent and share our opinions, but talking about bailing on your own team..that’s blasphomy.
    Broncos Forever!!!!!

  43. brian_schneider says:

I just read on ESPN that Marshall is going to his Youth Camp (ages 7-18) but not to training camp, what a joke. He’s probably teaching those kids how to be future holdouts. Maybe he’ll take some of what those kids say. They all want him to stay in Denver and be a Bronco. He doesn’t care about those kids though, he just wants “mo money and mo problems.”

  44. 987654321 says:

This past year a friend I’ve got to know over the past couple of years revealed to me that he was a Cowboys fan. I never knew this and we talked football all the time. He said he’d never root for the Cowboys as long as T.O. was on the team. For this reason I understood what he meant. Being able to look at that organization from the outside prompted my feelings of “How can anyone like T.O. on their team with all the ruckus he causes?”

Trust me, he was as true a fan as I’ve met… and to say he was cool by any standards and being a Cowboys fan is a compliment that I haven’t given any other Cowboy’s fan ever.

So to all those that say “You never were a true Bronco fan!” Others could easily say “Your just a bandwagon McDaniels fan!”

Going against the grain doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not loyal. It just means that you disagree with the changes and because you care so much it hurts.

From what I’ve seen this off season, it has been painful to some, and a breath of fresh air for others. But it doesn’t mean we’re all not Fans of the Broncos.

  45. LKW 7 23 49 80 says:

Honestly, with the way things have been going lately, one of my first thoughts after reading that Boss Bailey had been cut was “God, I hope Champ doesn’t demand a trade now!”

It’s too bad to see B.Bailey, Green (wow, didn’t realize just how long he’d been with us), and Jones go. (I didn’t really figure Jones had too much of a chance to make the roster, with the signings and new draftees we now have, but I liked what I saw of him, both on the field and from reading this site.) I like the idea that Boss could possibly get another chance if healthy, and I wish all of these players, including Moore and Moulton, all the best in making another NFL roster ASAP.

As far as the new regime… I was pretty shocked when Mr. Bowlen let Mike Shanahan go. But, the more time that’s passed, the more good possibilities I see. The ’08 Broncos didn’t score _nearly_ enough for having the #2 offense in the league. Defensively: year after year Shanahan brought in new coordinators, but every one of them brought – I have to think at Mike’s preference – a conservative “bend but don’t break” system, which in reality turned out to be “bend until you break, and break, and BREAK”. So I am very glad to see that our new head coach is willing to bring in Mike Nolan and a scheme which everyone has characterized as “aggressive”. And special teams need a shake-up as well, as the coverage and return teams have both been a weakness for years. There’s no guarantee that they’ll be better under the McDaniels regime, but I have been glad to hear that some of our personnel decisions have been focused on that area, at least.

And hey, if McD ultimately doesn’t work out, we could just stay within the team and promote Nolan to the job. If he gets permission to wear those suits again, it’ll look like a flashback to the eighties with Coach Reeves….

  46. tnalen66 says:

Loser fans who want to cry get on the Raider band wagon!I have been bronco fan for 30 years and i ahave seen a lot of my favorite players leave for what ever reasons.Did i cry when Shanny let Atwater go so we could bring in Dale Carter and go 5-11, and Carter was busted for Drugs and was gone the next year? Look what Shanny did, Price, Elam, Berry, Hayward gone all played great for their new teams. Did Mc D fire Shanny? Cuz he gets blamed for everything that some so called fans don’t like. Most fans don’t like there coach at one time or another. When the Broncos start winning you losers can stay away.Whine over BBaily who played what 4 games , or Cultler or Marshall who want $$$$$$ and think nothing about the team or fans. No one will trade for Marshall cuz of his health and off the field problems except maybe the raiders who take everyones garbage.

  47. McDanielsDomain09 says:

scotto291 i couldnt agree more. Its part of the reason i never gave up on Mcdaniels philosophy in the first. Hes kickin out the old shanny regime. But he keeps tha heart nd soul of it. Bobby turner is a genious nd with a guy like moreno. All this Sh#t tlk bout us not amounting to anything this year might all get shot out the window. With the coaching of mcdaniels, our o-line, the recievers we have, and the potential in moreno to be the new adrian peterson. We prolly might have the most dangerous offense in the NFL Still. But this time we’ll actually score. nd not jus throw up numbers!! GO BRONCOS

  48. br0nc0fan7.corey says:

I am a lifelong Bronco fan and always will be. I am cautiously optimistic about the broncos this year. Shanahan leaving sucks. That man is a football genius. McDaniels is unproven, we will have to wait and see what happens. I am concerned that one of his first moves was to hire his brother from the high school ranks with no college or pro experience. I was not impressed with the draft. However, it looks like he has picked up some very talented players this off season. Unlike many on this blog I was not sad to see Cutler go. I would have been behind him 100% if his attitude was right and he wanted to play here. I understand him being upset that McDaniels was looking into a trade with the Pats for Cassell. But once that was over he could have gotten over it or he could pout and cause problems and unfortunately he chose the later. I think it was classless for him to whine about a trade, refuse to talk to the coach and the owner, and then claim he never wanted to be traded from Denver after the deal was all done. He is talented but the Broncos are in a big shake-up right now and they need people on board with the team ready and willing to go give 100% each week, not someone stirring up things off the field. Boss Bailey sad to see you go. I loved having you and Champ in the backfield together when you were able to play. Health problems are the only reason you are going I’m sure. Sad it didn’t work out best wishes to you. All of these changes are really a shake up for the organization and I am interested to see how McDaniels pulls it all together. I’m rooting for him to succeed because the Broncos have been my team all my life and will be my team until I die . . . Win or Lose I am a Bronco Fan. I look forward to the organization getting back to the Super Bowl and hope that is the direction we are heading. To Bowlen, McDaniels, and every Bronco Player and fan I say good luck in 2009. All I want is success for the team no matter who is steering the ship.

  49. Dynamicdave says:

kase78matt, I don’t think there is a blog out there that will go directly to the owners or coaches or players. They would get so swamped with mail and never have time for the game. They would NEVER be able to answer all the mail. Also, as for “nolongerafan24″, he is not and never was a fan. I read through the posts he made and comments and if he wishes Denver to “lose every game of the season to teach the staff a lesson” then he is not a fan. He fits the Raider mentality better. If he were to talk like that at our Broncos bar in Vegas, he’d be run out on a rail.We all want Bronco fans who are the real deal, not pretenders with anger/emotional issues….

  50. jethro_g says:

I have to ask everyone that is posting here… Are you a fan of the Bronco’s or the players? As tnalen66 points out good players come, good players go. Like tnalen I have been a long time fan of the orange & blue, I can remember crying at age 6 when we lost our first superbowl to the Cowboys. I have liked some coaches more than others as well as players, yes. I have also like some decisions more than others. No one can argue that Shanny took us to a new level, but he didn’t do it alone… Has everyone forgotten the stellar quarterback and stellar teams that were there too?

Reality is, we haven’t even seen enough of Josh to have a true opinion of his coaching abilities one way or the other. All we can do is hope like we do this time every year. But a true blue… true Orange & Blue fan will never leave the sidelines. Seriously, I had to move to Springfield, Missouri when I was only 16. For those that think it is rough dealing with all of this in Denver, come and try it while living in Chief’s country. But I simply remind all of them that we spank them every time they come to Mile High, and ask them why would anyone want to root for any team other than the Broncos.

Think of it like this… Players come to go. It is a fact of life that no player is going to last forever. Sure we are sad when our favoites leave, but my goodness what would have happened to the fan base if everyone quit being a fan when Elway retired?

Back the team… no matter who is on the field, no matter who is making decisions! Orange and Blue forever, GO BRONCOS!!!
