Broncos Pro Bowlers Announced

December 27th, 2011 - 5:02pm by Gray Caldwell

Three Broncos will be adding a little pineapple to their diet next month, one for the first time.

Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller were voted to the 2012 Pro Bowl, it was announced Tuesday. Bailey and Miller are starters. Dumervil, currently a reserve, might end up a starter as New England’s Andre Carter — who is on injured reserve — is slated to be a Pro Bowl starter ahead of him.

“It’s always exciting when you have guys going to the Pro Bowl,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said. “They’re three guys that are very deserving.”

Tim Tebow, Willis McGahee, Ryan Clady, Brian Dawkins Matt Prater and Britton Colquitt are alternates for the all-star game.

The selection is Bailey’s 11th, extending the record he set last season for trips by a cornerback. It makes him one of just six players in NFL history with that many selections.

It’s also Bailey’s seventh Pro Bowl as a Bronco, which ties him for third in franchise history with Shannon Sharpe and Randy Gradishar. Only Elway and Steve Atwater went to more with Denver.

“Champ is obviously a guy that has tremendous respect around the league,” Elway said. “Again, it just shows with this 11th Pro Bowl what people think of him around the league, but also he continues to play at a Pro Bowl level. It’s great for him as well as the Broncos.”

Dumervil, who suffered an injury before the team’s season-opener against the Oakland Raiders and was hampered early in the year, will make his second trip.

The defensive end recovered from the injury quickly and is currently on an eight-game streak of notching at least a half sack. For the season, he has 9.5 quarterback takedowns.

“This year is one of those examples — you never stop, you never quit,” Dumervil said. “It’s all about how you finish.”

Two years ago, Dumervil made the Pro Bowl — which was held in his hometown of Miami — before missing all of last season with a pectoral injury.

That’s why he said this selection means even more to him.

“The first one is your first, so it’s special in that way,” he said. “But this year is different with the adversity and playing through pain, and to be able to give the team a chance to go to the playoffs. This one means a lot, to overcome that adversity.”

Dumervil’s partner in crime, Miller, will be making his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Miller currently leads all AFC rookies with 11.5 sacks.

“I’m so happy for him,” Dumervil said. “He worked for it and he definitely earned it. Coming in as the No. 2 pick is a lot of pressure and a lot of hype and he delivered. A lot of guys can’t handle the pressure, but he’s had a great year. He’s been banged up with his thumb but he’s definitely been a Pro Bowler and he deserves it.”

The full AFC and NFC rosters can be seen here.

    It went like this…

BLAH BLAH BLAH… I’m saying all the right things… Blah blah blah… I miss my NeckBEARD BLAH BLAH BLAH Revenge Revenge Revenge Blah Blah Blah… Something about the 53 men on his Roster etc…

I’m back to civilization!!! (Well, technologically speaking. Didn’t realize there are still places with no cell coverage in the US. Besides the mountains. Lol)

What a terrible game Sunday. And for me, it came down to two plays. The 1st- “illegal block in the back” that erased the Royal score (I’m convinced the zebras have it in for us…)

The second…the Eric Decker drop on 3rd down…(though I’m sure had he caught it, them stripes would have called some stupid penalty on us.)

I’m not one to complain about officiating, but that was probably the most obvious, one sided called game I’ve ever seen in my lifetime of watching games. Enough about that.

So. Looks like we got something on the line this week. The Chiefs? Kyle Orton? How completely and utterly ironic Kyle Orton can be the determining factor in the Broncos playoff berth…
Only a few of you can truely appreciate my dilemma with this one…I mean, if he plays like I’ve always believed he could, we could be in trouble. He plays like most everybody else believes he will and we have a chance…
I know one thing, if our team plays anything like they have the last two games, it’s gonna be an early off season.

I sure hope the D remembers how to pressure the QB. Orton does have limited mobility.
I sure hope the D can create a turnover. Orton is prone.
I sure hope the D can get off the field on 3rd down, which means figuring out our Nickle
    tackling.

As for the offense. Can they please sustain drives and continue to score after the opening
    possession.

Tebow? There is a reason you are starting for Denver and the other guy is starting for KC. Time to believe in some Mile High Magic and finish what you started…

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

I am not surprised. The guy is pretty inspiring and admirable. Even his staunchest critics admit that. Motivated, Charitable, humble, grounded and hard working amongst other states. Guys a model human being (as far as we know). Hats off to him. Im his age and im amazed by his character. Of course he is human and probably gets frustrated and does dumb things like the rest of all but for all intents and purposes … kid is amazing and has a great story to boot. Which is part of the reason I root for him. Cuz more Tebows sure wouldn’t hurt the world. TRB

  4. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Great post sndvl … wondered what happened to you. No matter where u are u always check in cuz you live on your phone. Must have died with no wifi/3g/4g lol

The officiating was bad. I saw the return again and that was the worst block in the back ive ever heard called, and it hurts so much cuz royal fought hard for it. They had just returned a punt for a TD and it was our time to respond and we did until the call. I believe that majorly deflated us. We have had alot of momentum killers the past 2 games. I believe the Refs are out to get us too and I don’t know why … not unless the ghosts of hauchulis past still haunt us. But I have been very disgusted with the calling.

All I know is. HAVE EDDIE ROYAL RETURN EVERYTHING. Man is like lightning in a bottle. A xfactor at returner can decide a game, help an offense and give momentum and something to hoot and holler about.

    TRB

I feel a very bright light shining in Bronco Country… Tebow is an Amazing person…

TRB, I like that (as far as we know), Chinese wisdom would tell you that the dark is equal to the light… so if there are skeletons somewhere they may actually be ‘Skeletons’… :o ) hope no one overreacts to the tongue in cheek humor here

    c'mon Turtle

No denying the Raiders get screwed by the refs, all the time, with bad calls or no calls. There were at least two in the KC game just last week. We just found a way to win that one....more

Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I took a break from these blogs to enjoy some nice family time, and to cool down after I started to get very upset blogging during the game on Sunday. Very frustrating game to say the least, but I still believe in Tebow. Every QB has a bad game, and that was his. If there is anything we know about Tim, it is that he hates losing, and even though he is very poised during press conferences, you know he is working extra hard because he never wants to play that bad again. I expect him to come out fighting against KC.

Things I liked about the game:

    – We scored right away.

    - We were running effectively early on.

    Things I hated:

    – Tebow has one of his best passing days against the Pats, and he throws 5 passes in the first half? Not good playcalling. I understand the ball control offense, and I get that we want to keep it close so we can win in the 4th. BUT, I think there is a time and place for it. Against a reeling Bills team was not the time or place. Instead of keeping it close, they should have set out to score points upon points. Be aggressive, and blow out weak teams. I am tired of playing down to everyone else’s level of competition. The Iowa Hawkeyes under Kirk Ferentz are the same way and it drives me nuts.

    – Once again, we run or throw deep. Let Tim throw some slants, over the middle routs to Willis, some screens. Something other than 50yd bombs that DT lets go through his hands. But DT did come from an option offense and is not good at running routes, so there is probably not a lot of other routes he can run. But Decker, Royal, and Willis on the other hand are not being used effectively.

    – Royal is a return man. Let him return.

    – Our rookie safeties need some serious help in the offseason. Moore looks terrible, and he does not look like he is improving. I think Carter will improve once he can stick to playing one safety position.

    – Pass Rush? Hello? Are you there?

    – WR need to catch the ball. And we need a veteran receiver that can get separation (starting to realize that Lloyd deal was a mistake). Decker keeps dropping passes, and DT has never been a good route runner (as mentioned above).

    – More TE passes! Tebows one TD was to Fells. I like the signing of Ingram to the practice squad. Signing players Tebow is familiar with shows that they are still doing what they can to help him out.

    – More JJ! I remember watching Lloyd play in preseason for us when we still had Marshall. He was always making plays, and I thought he should be a regular feature on offense. I see that in JJ. And like Bay, I see that in Matthew Willis.

Well that is all I have. I am not an expert, so feel free to disagree. But that is where I stand on what is going on.

    Please destroy Orton. Please.

    GO BRONCOS!

  8. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    Turtle,

Indeed. I put no one on a pedastal … everyone is capable of anything. Thats why I am never shocked or distraught when a player or celeb does something. Because while I like to see the best in people and believe they are awesome (I am gullible that way) I know anything is possible and that people may not be like what they appear. I mean how many times has someone killed a lil girl on tv, or murdered their whole family and themsleves, or found out to be a serial killer and everyone is like … OMG thats not the Bobby we know (just chose a name) he would never do such a thing? way to many than my stomach can handle. Like most recently the lil girl in indiana i believe. Sad stuff.TRB

  9. ScalptheChiefs says:

TRB, hell ya buddy I couldnt have a handle like this and not think we wouldnt destroy the Chiefs!! haha

I dunno guys it kind of worries me that Orton puts even a remote bit of doubt in some of our minds…. This guy should fall flat on his back or at least drop the ball a couple times for us lol we did pay him over 6 mil for 5 starts :)

  10. sndvl says:

Nope. Didn’t die TRB. It was actually kind of nice. I spent my time studying. I’m taking the Jeopardy test in a couple of weeks. And eating. And playing with my son. He had such a great time. And eating some more. Sleeping in. Watching plain ole TV. And more eating of the good stuff. Man was there some good stuff. Black Raspberry cheesecake. Pecan Pie. Pumpkin. Strawberry Rhubarb. Cookies galore. Candy. Turkey and all the trimmings. Even got a pork Tenderloin. This thing was legendary. Pounded thin and this thing was bigger than my head. For 4 bucks and I woulda paid double that without batting an eye. The only thing that prevented this from being the perfect Christmas vacation was the poor showing from our beloved Broncos on Christmas Eve!
Then again, it sets up this dream matchup Tebow Vs Orton…though I am very interested to see if our D can bounce back against someone they should all be familiar with!

    GO BRONCOS!!!!!!!!

  11. Bronco_Turtle says:

People don’t realize how close they are to still being wild animals… I hate to see the primitive side but there are examples everyday..

If I read the chart right the Denver Broncos have the only two starters in the pro bowl from the AFC West… Meaningless game as you all said, but still makes me feel good! :o )

  12. denver0723 says:

Either my stuff doesn’t post, or it is not worth commenting on lol. Oh well I suppose. Peace out Bronco Country.

  13. ScalptheChiefs says:

0723 no offence buddy you jus pretty much commented on all the same stuff that has been mentioned on your time off these last few days!! Dont take it personally brother!

  14. dendins says:

    Broncos Win : 14 – 17

  15. royalbroncofan1 says:

By the way who was the head referee that did such a terrible job last Saturday with his crew? I’m usually not one to complain either regarding the job they do, but this one was downright atrocious!! Grade F.

  16. baylinorcrush says:

    Broncos beware:

It would be a big mistake if the Broncos think Kansas City isn’t capable of keeping them out of the playoffs.

And Legwold is as knowledgeable about the game as any, so I would pay attention to what he says if I were any member of the team.

  17. baylinorcrush says:

Legwold asked about Tebow locking into a certain receiver each game:

Each week, opponents are playing more disciplined defense against Tebow and the Broncos.

The last two games, the Patriots and Bills stuck with their defensive game plan from the first snap to the last — and Denver’s offense has turned the ball over six times ( four interceptions and two fumbles) because of that discipline.

The Broncos may disagree, but several NFL coaches believe Tebow is more comfortable with a particular wide receiver in the game plan each week. As a result, Tebow frequently looks for that wideout wherever he is on the field and doesn’t come off that wideout very often.

Game video backs that up. In his first three starts this season — against Miami, Detroit and Oakland — Tebow targeted Eric Decker more than any other wideout. But Decker has only 10 catches in the last seven games since Denver’s option offense appeared. In the last three games — against Chicago, New England and Buffalo — Demaryius Thomas has been targeted more than any other wideout.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

BTW, that’s not necessarily just the Tebow way, it’s also the Fox ball way, remember Steve Smith? Any other receiver you can recall from the Panthers? Just saying.

Fox ball at play is all and Tebow’s abilities to read the field at this point are not helping either, it is what it is and we just have to live with it I guess, Fox has been doing that for a dozen years, you just don’t teach an old dog new tricks overnight…

  19. baylinorcrush says:

Sorry for not researching that for you rbf1 because I don’t really care, nothing anyone can do about the refs so I move on.

  20. royalbroncofan1 says:

No prob, I’ll reasearch it myself when I have a little more time.

  21. baylinorcrush says:

Legwold about the lack of turnovers by our D of late which is really hurting the team:

The best opportunities for turnovers usually come with hits on the quarterback. But the Broncos struggled to consistently pressure the Patriots’ Tom Brady , though they sacked him twice. Elvis Dumervil had the only sack against Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick , and the Denver defense again went without an interception. Fitzpatrick led the NFL in interceptions entering that game.

I mean that’s real bad right there, Fitz leads the NFL in throwing INTs, threw the ball most horribly against us all day hurting us only with his legs and just one measly sack and no INT, that pretty much sums up how bad our D was Sunday.

  22. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yup Targeting a certain player each week. I felt that about Royal against Buff on a couple of plays but looks like Bay Bay is still getting the love. I though Bay Bay was only targeted because Decker started getting notoriety but I guess not. After what Decker has done this year … to has used him minimally the past couple of games is sad, granted he has passed to him a few times and they were either dropped or inaccurate but Decker (The Denver Jordy Nelson) is a fantastic reciever, its a shame we have gotten away from him … and thinking back to royals rookie year … man o man, so much potential unrealized … dunno why. Maybe Cutler made Royal look good … who knows. TRB

  23. strandoftds says:

Tebow needs to look at all of his WR`s. Locking onto one WR just doen`t cut it. Defenses are figuring it out and it goes back to being one demensional, you won`t win games that way.

  24. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Orton had the same problem wit lockng as well on occasion.

  25. royalbroncofan1 says:

The Denver Jordy Nelson…. good one TRB. lol.

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Krieger about putting Orton on the waivers:

Five weeks later, it still doesn’t make any sense.

Name another instance when an NFL team in a playoff race voluntarily provided a starting quarterback to a division rival still on its schedule. If Kyle Orton and the Chiefs win Sunday, the Broncos’ releasing of Orton on Nov. 22 will go down as one of the franchise’s all-time boneheaded personnel moves.

Krieger, let me explain it to you, it’s very simple, in this league and anywhere else in the world, things are run with money, Mr.Bowlen is no different, he wanted to save over 3 million dollars, and I always thought that was the right thing to do, plus all the stars were aligned that the Bears would really be the team interested in Orton since they just lost Cutler and Orton used to do a decent job for them, then KC put the big monkey wrench in all those plans by claiming him first, it was basically a move that needed to be made that turned out bad from some bad luck, that’s all it was, no need to cry over spilled milk.

If we have to worry about having to beat KC at home to win the division and get in the playoffs, Orton or no Orton, we obviously don’t belong in the playoffs in the first place.

  27. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    rbf1

lol thx. They are literally the same height and wieght, wear the same number, same build, same capabilities lol

  28. baylinorcrush says:

    Miller about his cast:

“I’m anxious to get the thumb back in rehab and get it right,” Miller said. “But the pins aren’t coming out until after we win the Super Bowl.”

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  29. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Yea I agree, Releasing Orton was the right move in many ways. Saved money, gave clear indication we were moving forward with TT at least for this year, gave orton a chance to catch on with another team and audition. Its unfortunate it just happened to be the chiefs. Just the way it goes sometimes. But IMO it was still best for everyone and a smart and classy move by the Broncos Organization saving money and not wasting ortons time. TRB

  30. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Bold words from the rook lol

  31. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Altho I suppose he didn’t say “win the superbowl THIS YEAR” lol

  32. baylinorcrush says:

And what would be a Bronco day without some b.s. thrown into the mix:

U.S. adults would most like to be neighbors with Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow if given a choice of celebrity neighbors, according to a nationwide survey released today.

If Tebow was my neighbor I’d never have a darn parking spot to myself, haha.

  33. baylinorcrush says:

He did, that’s his quote verbatim.

  34. baylinorcrush says:

Because it would have to be this year, unless he keeps the pins in for years in which case we should of gone Dareus, LOL.

  35. baylinorcrush says:

If you listen to what Bailey is saying closely about three of our D players going to the pro bowl, you will hear that he is basically saying that a lot of the guys on the team better start doing their job if we are going to be any good, very subtle about it but clear to me nonetheless:

“I think it’s promising. It’s a good way to say, OK, we’ve got some talent, and obviously we’ve got more talent around the three of us. It says a lot about what we’ve been able to do lately, and where we go from here is up to us. How good do we want to be? We’re just part of it. It takes 11 guys to be special, so until we’ve got everybody on the same page all the time, that’s when we’ll be great.”

  36. baylinorcrush says:

Miller on the chances of Tim Tebow joining him in Hawaii: “for a guy like that, and the type of season that he’s had, I think he’s deserving to go to the Pro Bowl. But I’m one of Tim Tebow’s biggest fans. He should be starting in that mug if you ask me. But the type of quarterbacks that we have, if we don’t make it to the Super Bowl, one of those quarterbacks will be playing in the Super Bowl and hopefully he can get a chance to go and play for Broncos fans and play for Broncos Nation.”

We’re going to have to teach that Cowboy fan that we are not the Raiders, we are Bronco COUNTRY! LOL. That right there is a rookie mistake, even Rahim Moore has had it right….

  37. baylinorcrush says:

Anyway, I believe today is the last full pad practice of the regular season.

  38. baylinorcrush says:

Cheetah, the famed Tarzan chimp passed away in Florida at the age of 80!!!!!

I hope I can live that long, LOL.

  39. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Lol Miller is very serious about Superbowl as he mentions it again, lol, I like the mentality. Yea its hard to understand we are Broncos Country … nation just sounds like the natural thing to say. But indeed Broncos Country and Raiders Nation … Chiefs Tribe? lmao … who knows lol.

Didn’t know chimps lived that long … I suppose thats why they compare them to humans or should I sa we involved from chimps or someting lke that.

    TRB

  40. royalbroncofan1 says:

Funny you mention chimps.. did watch the “rise of the planet of the apes” recently… great movie!

  41. royalbroncofan1 says:

Yep according to DP, today is the last full pad practice.

  42. baylinorcrush says:

Love all the planet of the apes movies myself, gotta see that new one.

  43. baylinorcrush says:

    You dirty ape!

  44. seweatherman1 says:

If they continue to tackle as they have these last few games, they need a couple more pad practice days with tackling being the serious attention.

  45. royalbroncofan1 says:

Good, you’ll enjoy this one then, bay!

  46. savinghyrule says:

I never really paid attention to Matthew Willis until bay kept mentioning him. That guy is a stud! I’m with several others who have said to keep Royal as the return guy and let Willis take his spot in the receiving core. Another blogger also mentioned bringing in Darren Sharper in Dawk’s absence. While I agree that this option should at least be looked at, I’m not sure it would help until next year.

  47. 1nOnlyTRB says:

we woulda needed to bring in sharper a long tim ago …a this point oo late. besides I doubt we wanna deal with what happened with dawk a second time. Age man … only thing that can slow down a warrior. Hats of to Dawk for doing it so long but all good things must come to an end, hopefully he ends up a secondary coach/assistant for the Broncos, so he can finish what he started, albeit as a staff memeber instead of player. TRB

  48. 1nOnlyTRB says:

I will say this tho, if by some miraculous intervention we make it to the superbowl, Neck or No Neck … Dawk will probably will himself to play lol. Once in a lifetime game especially for a guy so far in his career. This is all hypothetical and speculatory of course. TRB
