Broncos Pro Bowlers Announced

December 27th, 2011 - 5:02pm by Gray Caldwell

Three Broncos will be adding a little pineapple to their diet next month, one for the first time.

Champ Bailey, Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller were voted to the 2012 Pro Bowl, it was announced Tuesday. Bailey and Miller are starters. Dumervil, currently a reserve, might end up a starter as New England’s Andre Carter — who is on injured reserve — is slated to be a Pro Bowl starter ahead of him.

“It’s always exciting when you have guys going to the Pro Bowl,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said. “They’re three guys that are very deserving.”

Tim Tebow, Willis McGahee, Ryan Clady, Brian Dawkins Matt Prater and Britton Colquitt are alternates for the all-star game.

The selection is Bailey’s 11th, extending the record he set last season for trips by a cornerback. It makes him one of just six players in NFL history with that many selections.

It’s also Bailey’s seventh Pro Bowl as a Bronco, which ties him for third in franchise history with Shannon Sharpe and Randy Gradishar. Only Elway and Steve Atwater went to more with Denver.

“Champ is obviously a guy that has tremendous respect around the league,” Elway said. “Again, it just shows with this 11th Pro Bowl what people think of him around the league, but also he continues to play at a Pro Bowl level. It’s great for him as well as the Broncos.”

Dumervil, who suffered an injury before the team’s season-opener against the Oakland Raiders and was hampered early in the year, will make his second trip.

The defensive end recovered from the injury quickly and is currently on an eight-game streak of notching at least a half sack. For the season, he has 9.5 quarterback takedowns.

“This year is one of those examples — you never stop, you never quit,” Dumervil said. “It’s all about how you finish.”

Two years ago, Dumervil made the Pro Bowl — which was held in his hometown of Miami — before missing all of last season with a pectoral injury.

That’s why he said this selection means even more to him.

“The first one is your first, so it’s special in that way,” he said. “But this year is different with the adversity and playing through pain, and to be able to give the team a chance to go to the playoffs. This one means a lot, to overcome that adversity.”

Dumervil’s partner in crime, Miller, will be making his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

Miller currently leads all AFC rookies with 11.5 sacks.

“I’m so happy for him,” Dumervil said. “He worked for it and he definitely earned it. Coming in as the No. 2 pick is a lot of pressure and a lot of hype and he delivered. A lot of guys can’t handle the pressure, but he’s had a great year. He’s been banged up with his thumb but he’s definitely been a Pro Bowler and he deserves it.”

The full AFC and NFC rosters can be seen here.

Congrats to all the pro bowlers, sorry I won’t watch the game though….

  2. baylinorcrush says:

I just realized I’ve done first posts in 5 blogs in a row, so unless you can match that don’t bother mentionning when you’re first, LMAO!

  3. 3rdGeneration says:

Great news. We have a lot of alternates as well, so I’m sure at least 2 more get in. Shaztah, I heard the same comment on serius radio today (35-45 starts to really evaluate a QB). I’ve been saying the same thing on here. I think you need 3 years to know what you’ve got at QB. Tebow has shown me enough promise to give him the three years. That’s been my “argument” all week.

Glad the Cosby Campaign worked Bay lol … it made me so excited … it only took them like forever to realize… so slow … I suppose they didn’t wanna make rash decisions … these are peoples lively hoods we are talking about here … but please oh please oh please Royal on all returns. Even Vaughn was better than Cosby if it wasn’t for him getting hurt. Hopefully we see more Royal in the return game and more willis in the receiving game.

Man I dunno if Von Miller will even be able to do his sack thing … not unless the run the 3-4 … because u cannot blitz in pro bowl (blitz is more than 4 rushers I believe) … so not unless its the 3-4 Miller will be doing more Covering lol.

DJ shoulda been an alternate at the least … man gets absolutely no respect … his numbers are like the 3rd best maybe 2nd best depending on how u look at it compared to sugs and Miller.

Either way … if we make Super Bowl this will all be irrelevant HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA

    TRB

  5. broncsbomber66 says:

Bay, do you only take predictions from bloggers that started predicting since game 1?

  6. 1nOnlyTRB says:

oh lord, they already have a “Why no Pro Bowl for Tebow” analysis blog on NFL.com

  7. OrangeTsunami says:

I just hear a funny joke on NY sports radio…

    Referring to Tim Tebow:

“Not since O.J. Simpson have we heard so much about a white Bronco”

    LOL!!!

  8. 3rdGeneration says:

TRB… Agree about DJ. He’s been snubbed 2-3 times in his career IMO.

  9. OrangeTsunami says:

    TRB – check out Suggs’ stats… 13 sacks, 2 INT’s, & 6 FF’s… Monster..

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player/_/stat/defense/sort/sacks/year/2011/seasontype/2

  10. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    OT

True but aint much for you to feast on when Doom and Von Miller are on your team lol. I love sacks and all but we place too much emphasis on it. But yea, monster year … if you look at tackles DJ does have him beat and last time i checked they were tied for FF so nevermind … aint know he was at 6. Point is I think he shoulda been an alternate at least in my opinion. Thats the thing about sacks … fumbles often come with it. But DJ has been snubbed many times in the past because he is on a crappy D. Alternate at least … all im asking lol. But yea … suggs having a monster year.

  11. OrangeTsunami says:

I hope I didn’t offend anyone with that joke.. I thought it was clever and found it funny.. I believe that everyone should be able to laugh at themselves and not take things so seriously..

  12. Louisianabroncofan says:

The 30 game evaluation is true in most cases but some qb’s just perform in a way and do things in such a way from day one that you just have a pretty good idea it won’t go well long term. I won’t mention names tho.

  13. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Right now they are considering giving DROY to Aldon Smith over Von Miller because of more sacks but Von plays every down and has more tackles … but Aldon has 3 more sacks since Von was injured and slowed down by thumb injury.

Like Klis said on NFL.com there was a year Doom hurt his pinky and all he could muster was like 5 sacks … hard to sack with one hand. Lot more technique than most think to get past a defender. You probably need your palms which is hard with a cast on. TRB

  14. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    OT,

It was indeed a clever joke. TRB

  15. Louisianabroncofan says:

No worries tsunami it’s hard to offend white people. Great joke really.

  16. OrangeTsunami says:

I agree with your view on sacks TRB.. Much like any statistic, there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration to use them to make an unbiased judgement on something..

The stat I most want to see on Sunday is QB hits/knock downs!!!

  17. broncsbomber66 says:

Just watched Von Miller interview on NFL Network. Live tge stache, lol.

  18. broncsbomber66 says:

Just watched Von Miller interview on NFL Network. Love the stache, lol.

  19. broncsbomber66 says:

    sorry for double post.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

bomber, you can join in the score prediction at any time you want. I know you’ve been trying but you haven’t gotten any points yet, but it’s real hard, majority of the bloggers never earn any points.

  21. shaztah says:

Or end up at a minus 1 after blowing their first try LOL.

  22. lynncs says:

Congrats to all three Broncos—you deserve it! Unfortunately, Tebow will NEVER be one of that select group.

  23. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Bay who won last years contest wasn’t it carnage?

  24. broncsbomber66 says:

ty, I know I was close one week, but not close enough.

  25. BroncoRoyaltyEst.1979 says:

Lyn if there’s anything you learned about Tebow this year wouldn’t it be “Never Say Never” Lol

  26. baylinorcrush says:

Royalty, Carnage won the season record prediction last year with TRB runner up, casinoroyal19 won the score prediction one with me runner up.

  27. broncsbomber66 says:

Defintely looking forward to next year’s prediction contest. I have to win at least one week.

  28. alex4serg says:

    Hey hey. Go Broncos!!

  29. alex4serg says:

    Official Prediction:

    34-14 broncos.

  30. alex4serg says:

BTW, I think my old handle got banned. Not sure why.

  31. WieminCA says:

For Tebow to be mentioned in any way for the Pro Bowl just diminishes that useless game, in my opinion … how in the world can anyone feel good about it … I mean, come on, you have to be deserving, or what good is it??? … wow!!!

  32. broncsbomber66 says:

Not sure if I agree with you Wiemin, lots of times in the past a ton of underserving players always get voted to the pro bowl and players that should have gone get shunned out. Happens all the time. Tebow is popular, no doubt about that. I for one, am glad that we have one of the most popular players in the league playing for our beloved team, even if he is underserving of the pro bowl.

  33. alex4serg says:

The probowl is more of a popularity contest than anything really. I mean, 90 percent of the players selected are highly deserving, But being voted to the All-Pro team is a much bigger deal.

  34. alex4serg says:

Having said that. it is hard to imagine a better group of Broncos representing us in the Pro-bowl than 24, 92, and 58.

  35. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Actually Wiemin, I expect Tebow to make the pro bowl because its all about popularity and the guys got it in spades. Not so much amongst the players and coaches cuz most players hate that he gets so much love but enough to be a runner up. Plus I think one unconventional QB woulda been good and interesting. I mean really Phillip Rivers … the man threw a bazzilion interceptions and his team is losing probably a direct result of his INTs and Fumbles … but hey, he has already established himself and this is just an “off year” plus he still has alot of yards passed for or watever … i personally think its easy to amass yards if you have no care for INTs. Heck tebow racked up the yards last year passing in that system but had his fair share of INTs in those last 3 games.

    TRB

  36. 1nOnlyTRB says:

But at the end of the day, players try to do right by people who deserve it cuz they hate when they get snubbed … I personally however woulda put Matthew Staffard over Eli Manning in the Pro Bowl.

    TRB

  37. tnalen66 says:

congrats to our Pro Bowlers. I was just defending Champ on a nfl chat. I think that the # rushing team in the NFL should of had 2 Lineman (Clady & Kuper) in the probowl. How does the INT machine Phillis Rivers and Manning get in??

  38. tnalen66 says:

I hope the lack of respect for our Oline and DJ ,Prater , Colquit will lite a fire under them!! Maybe another 200 yrd rushing day on Sunday!

  39. tnalen66 says:

Houston had about 5 players that should of went including ex Bronco Meyers

  40. baylinorcrush says:

Moderation wouldn’t let me post it, so go check this article out to find out exactly what kind of a jerk Bill Maher is, always hated that guy’s sense of humor, it’s regarding Tebow:

  41. 3rdGeneration says:

Bay- how are tie breakers done for the season prediction contest?

  42. Bronco_Turtle says:

    Hola Bronco Brethren…

Congrats Bailey! You are the MAN! Wanna know something truthful… When I first Read that Shannahan was going to trade Portis for you I almost turned in my Bronco Card!!!

Funny really, cause you have been by far my favorite player since you came… but the season before the trade Portis torched KC for 5 touchdowns and I didn’t understand what Shanny was thinking, then the whole Peyton still owning us for the first half of the decade made it a little more clear…

Congrats to VON DOOM as well…

  43. broncsbomber66 says:

Totally disgusting person. He’s a freaking idiot.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

No tie breaker, last year was a single winner and runner up because everyone else thought McD in his second season would be at least 8-8 or better. Carnage won it with 6-10 and TRB runner up with 7-9. This year unless we finish with a tie we will have multiple winners.

  45. 1nOnlyTRB says:

Bill Maher like many need to leave his faith alone.

Ive often said many people don’t like Tebow for his religion … because as far as we can tell he is not a hypocrite and is genuine and people hate to see that because it makes them question themselves. Sure Tebow puts his faith at the forefront but that doesn’t give pause to ridicule it … same as the SNL skil … while a line or 2 about brady and belichek made me laugh, I was not amused at how easily Christianity is disrespected so openly and like its ok, in comparison to other faiths. Especially in a country where Chrisitian is probably the leading faith. You would think it would get some respect. You would never see that done to islam for example … granted those guys are quite extreme.

    TRB

  46. baylinorcrush says:

That’s because everyone is afraid islam extremists will bomb us, LOL.

  47. baylinorcrush says:

Hollywood doesn’t like to be bombed, haha.

  48. 1nOnlyTRB says:

    lol

  49. Bronco_Turtle says:
