The Broncos’ historic comeback from 24 points down to beat San Diego has a chance to take home GMC’s Never Say Never Moment of the Week, and quarterback Peyton Manning is one of three players nominated for the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week award.
Fans are encouraged to vote now on NFL.com/gmc and NFL.com/fedex and have until Friday at 1 p.m. MDT to make their choices. The winners will be announced Friday during NFL Network’s “Around the League.”
Manning carved up the Chargers for his fourth consecutive game with at least 300 yards passing. Manning finished Monday night 24-for-30 for 309 yards passing and three touchdowns, all in the second half, good for a quarterback rating of 129.0.
The second-half rally, which tied for the largest in team history, started on the first drive of the second half, when Manning directed an eight-play, 85-yard drive by completing all four of his passes, including a 29-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas that put Denver on the scoreboard.
The Broncos’ next touchdown came on a 65-yard fumble return for a touchdown by cornerback Tony Carter, who picked up the loose ball after San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers had it knocked away by defensive end Elvis Dumervil. That touchdown made it 24-14 with 4:41 to play in the third quarter.
By the time 9:03 remained in the fourth quarter, Denver had added two more touchdowns to take a 28-24 lead and stun the crowd at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium. The Broncos held on for the win as the defense continued to smother the Chargers offense the rest of the way, then sealed the deal with an interception return for a touchdown by cornerback Chris Harris with 2:05 to play.

Don’t have to be Perfect, but a team does need to be consistent. 6 Games this season and 5 teams have imposed their will on our Defensive line with the exception being a very weak Oakland team. We got lucky to get a defensive score to put us back in the game while San Diego was driving to answer our opening drive of the second half and without that takeaway who knows how bad we lose, so no we couldn’t have won without 6 takeaways. Just a fact! Glad we got them and Glad we won!
Oh, Wolfe, school is great! Busy busy! But it’s been great!
My glass is half full and your glass is always half empty.
My glass is at 50% capacity… this team is what it is
And I happen to love it for what it is and you happen to be picking it apart. If the Giants were perfect last season as this time ill eat my big toe. But we’re they? NO! They went 9-7 and won the SB. I’m not saying we’re going to win the SB, but I’m having way more fun this year than I did last.
*at this time I’ll
ahhh both good points. the only thing i can say is Turtle you do seem to hate on manning just to do it. last year you were the biggest Tebow supporter through all the negatives and yet he played no where as good as manning has been. so how could you be so possitve last year and not so much this year. makes me wonder.
The Giants have the best front 7 in Football, our Front 7 is more like a Front 3 and a half… The Giants have Eli in his Prime, we have an Old Man’ing that is playing lights out for now… I don’t quite get the same optimism when observing the two scenarios but it’s your world cat so i’m glad you are smiling!!!
I haven’t said a negative word about Manning Socal, so what are you to Wonder about? He is playing great. My concerns are with the Broncos and the Broncos have many issues at this point. I wonder how close you actually read these posts buddy
Just going to say this. It’s how I feel.
I love Tim Tebow. Just as much as anybody here. But I’m not listening to or putting up with people crying over Tebow anymore. I am a proud Bronco fan who misses the kid, but Peyton Manning did something yesterday that hasn’t been done for 20 years. If that doesn’t convince you that Peyton Manning is worthy to lead this team, nothing is going to. Which is sad. Because if you all could step back and not look for perfection, but ENJOY watching one of the greatest of all time play football, you’re in for a treat. If you miss it because you hate Manning for what he used to do to the Broncos, that’s on you. It doesn’t change what’s happening here. What history is being made. My suggestion is just to sit back and stop being so critical and ENJOY watching Peyton Manning do what he does and relish in it. Who knows how long it will last. All I know is that I’ve been on board since the beginning and I’m not jumping ship now!!!!! TAP YOUR CLEATS THREE TIMES!!! GO BRONCOS!!! I have been waiting 15 years for this.
turtle, u dont have to be a regular here to know that you dont like manning. thats all you do. i know it, everyone else on here knows it, you know it. just admit it. i read closely and seen you complaining in the blog during the game. “old manning that is playing lights out for now” that is not a negative comment. come on bro. its obvious. calling him old, for now as in no more. you know who else was old Elway when he brought two lombardi trophies home. manning is totally capable of that. this team is a lot better than last year. you were happier cause tebow was here. you are now negative cause he is not here anymore. give the team a chance. there are definetly things we can do a lot better. it does take time to gel on offense and defense. its the same argument that is always on here……
Wow. everyone needs to stop reading espn or DP already. Try reading profootballfocus or advanced nfl statistics. these will clue you into how much better Denver is then the pundits say.
saints are the next opponent and they have ZERO defense. Denver will run and pass as they like. NO only has a pass offense, no run game. screw our deficiencies, lets focus on the deficiencies of the next opponent and exploit them.
Socal… you, like many have a Tebow Hangover… I haven’t said the guys name for about 6 months and the fact that I supported him has 0 to do with my issues with this team. Our team has a Giant whole right in the middle which means we stop no one that runs affectively, especially late when teams are trying to run out the clock on us. The fact that I can talk about our teams deficiencies openly shouldn’t bother you to the point you have to mention last season. Facts are this team has a bunch of issues and if you don’t see them then you watch the games about as closely as you claim to read the blog
BT every team has deficiencies. Ask the Patriots. This is about winning games and we are at .500 now. I like that better than where we were at last year. The deficiencies will work themselves out as the season goes on. I’m a football fan. I know that teams that has the potential like ours don’t peak right now, they peak later in the season during the playoffs. Hence the reason I keep saying you ought to have patience.
we didnt stop the run last year and you didnt say anything. turtle you just a cry baby. i watch every bronco game and nfl game. i know this team has holes in it. i know the d can get better. the only reason i bring up last season is because you cant be reasoned with so i figure i bring up examples of how you were, to reason with yourself. i get mad when we make mistakes. i can point out what we can do better. the difference is you just cry. like a little kid. hey you ever wonder if you argue with this many people maybe its not them just you. get the hint.
Cat, teams that don’t stop the run don’t ever Peak… they watch teams that do stop the run, and run the ball affectively when it matters make deep playoff runs. When we start plugging the middle and making opponents offenses react to us rather than playing on our side of the line of Scrimmage I promise you will hear my tune change… I simply don’t feel confident in what I see right now on the field on the defensive side of the ball… WE NEED SOME BEEF
These arguments are classic. Sure Denver isnt a ‘complete’ team. imo there isnt a team in the nfl without its issues. so what!?!?!?
I played a ton of sports growing up…hockey, soccer, basketball and football. I learned early that sometimes a lack of talent could be overcome by aggresiveness or scheming, especially in bball where I couldn’t shoot but hot damn I could play defense. With hockey aggression can be key, playing fast went a long way. Anyway, point is to know your own weakness and mask it. know you oponents
and stab him in it.
cat, i agree with you. i read more than i post and trolls like turtle is why. he is mad for the reasons you and i have pointed out. some kids dont understand. i figured you could get through since your a teacher. i mean thats what you do, teach kids. lol.
I get the hint Socal… you have a Bee in your Bonnet because I can express myself confidently and not worry about dissenting oppinions that are presented with little backing, i.e. yours… Thanks though for letting me know your point of view! Now if your over Last season maybe we can discuss the merits of this years team…
Btw running isnt the end all be all anymore…its not 1980, its 2012. Passing offense does more to increase winning potential than running offense.
RH709, good point. anyone watching football the last few weeks knows there isnt a perfect team. thats all they have been talking about the team records speaks for themselves. teams that were favored are stuggling, other teams are stepping up, and strong teams like atlanta and houston struggled last week. atlanta did get the W but almost lost to the raiders. we will see if they can keep it up.
Hmmmm this is interesting…

Turtle, i have moved on and have been looking forward to this season since we signed manning. have you. so now that is all done. How have you been… LOL
Well! Sounds like better than you Socal!!! I’m as Bronco Rowdy as Ever!!
Glad you got over the tongue lashings bro, and my apologies for abusing you when you came after me last season, I can let my tongue get the best of me on occasion and I promise to keep it in check this year! Can’t wait to watch Brees v Manning live!!! Going to be a great air show
Isnt McFaider a top NFL RB and didnt we hold him to 34 rush yards? Guess thats not stopping the run
Its really about matchups. Even a great team can matchup porely with a sub-par team. The outcome of such a matchup looks odd to some but makes sense to those that look deeper.
Right now Denvers true weekness is the coverage of our linebacks on TEs and RBs, most notably from MLB. A coach can try and scheme around this but its limited and in the pass happy NFL its not a problem anyone wants to have. Unfortunately this can only be fixed in the offseason so get use to it. Its going to happen.
Denver just has to step up elsewhere to make up for it. Take a look at the Patriots who make up for a bad secondary by instead scoring lots of points on offense. They found a way to avoid the issue until it can be fixxed later on.
RH… Good point! Who do we put on Jimmy Graham?
there has been a certain blooper real aspect to our first half performances. from muffed kicks and random fumbles to blades of grass making td saving tackles.
if you have been watching this team and have gotten the impresssion that they just aren’t competitive, then I just don’t know what you are seeing.
I will be a little surprised if we don’t end up with double digit wins.
ab, where you been. with this much debating who can sleep. i am still on a high from last night. its all good bronco bros, and gals. this is what makes our fans the greatest. Turtle its always fun brother. it will be a good one against the saints. too bad i have to root against Brees my fantasy qb. lol.
Lol Social ive been reading. Just not been posting. Couldnt resist that comment there about McFaider though. Been avoiding the blog since halftime last night. Some bloggers kinda made me ashamed with giving up on the whole season not just the game after that first half. Yea it was bad but you never give up on your team. Shameful.
I didnt sleep at all last night. To hyped up from the game.
Cant wait for the Saints game. Going to go through withdrawals with no game this week lol
A LB has to take Graham. and Graham will beat said LB. so what?
Look, the saints have an increadible passing attack and those guys will score points. Denver will play hard a get a few stopsand cause some punts. point is, the denver offense needs to score and do it early.
The strength of the Denver D is in its pass rush so make the score dictate that NO needs to abandon the run and throw the ball and watch wolfe, doom and miller work. then watch as even brees will force it and throw ints. thats what Denver is buit for at this time.
yeah, broncos fans should never have to eat quite that much crow after a broncos victory.
Btw this is the same model the NYG used to beat the Patriots twice in a SB. this is why Denver focused on Dline and rushing the passer the last two drafts. MLB has been a secondary need. now that the dline is doing its thing, mlb is a primary need and will be adressed in the offseason.
‘This $#*% is chess not checkers’ – Traing Day
A LB and S need to take Graham imo. Graham is better than Gronk imo and Gronk tore us up when we only had a LB or S on him.
I also wouldnt mind seeing Harris in there often on Graham.
During the preseason I dished a lot of hate on Carter and Leonhard and Carter was very very impressive. I couldnt believe my eyes. And with Leonhard I was so appreciative for him returning the ball when Holiday put the one on the ground. Something Leonhard has never done returning punts.
Lot of Checkers guys here I’m afraid RH! I love that movie
the last time I gave up on the broncos was 1996. stopped paying attention. next thing I knew broncos won a superbowl, and i missed the entire seson. luckily for me they repeated and I sure as heck followed that. but I will never make that mistake again.
RH, I think the Broncos have too many holes up front to play like the Giants. The Giants bring the heat all the time with stout D, and often with just the front four not needing to bring an LB to get pressure, they don’t rely on being ahead to Wreek havoc on opposing Offenses. I get the comparison and I feel the Broncos are building with solid pieces but don’t see one more draft pushing this team over the top…
Thanks Bay! It’s about time Huh? LOL
I never gave up on a game last year with Tebow so I sure wouldnt do it with Manning at the helm. I have never given up on a game. Not even preseason. Watch them all, all the way through. I sure get pissed and want to give up but cant. Not ever. Always have faith in my Broncos.
Alaskan. I remeber cause I defended Carter making the roster and was severly outnumbered in my thinking. I saw his aggression but knew he had been out of position several times. To me that part was coachable but having that speed and that athletisism wasnt so I saw it as worth some time to see if he could develop.
Against NO, it sounds crazy but I would run a 3-4 hybrid on downs where they had two tight ends. Let Wolfe, Vickerson and Ayres hold down the line for the run game. Then scheme LB pressure will miller, woodyard or trevathen and make NO guess where its coming from. It will result in NO getting some yards but I see it as the best way to dictate the game on defense.
bt, wtf? our defensive line and indeed our entire defense has been improved from last year. but last year you were all rah-rah tebow rah-rah broncos.
now it’s all boo-boo broncos f-this team.
what gives?
RH I just couldnt stand seeing him give up big player after big play. But he really made the big plays last night lol.
RH for that second part I wouldnt mind seeing some 3-3-5 D out there vs the Saints.
Obvious passing downs have Wolfe Doom Vickerson out there Miller off the edge then Brooking and W2. Harris Porter and Champ out there. Champ on Colston Porter on Moore Harris on Graham.
Would put a faster secondary out there that can cover the passing attack of the Saints.
Alex? really, at what point have I ever been anti-Bronco? I simply stated that our Defense has obvious deficiencies… I’m always RAH RAH BRONCOS! It’s in my blood, but the expectations for this team this season were set sky high by a front office with no ‘Plan B’ so I have every right as a fan to express my concern with an inconsistent team that started 3-3… Make any sense?
I cheer just as hard for this team as any other Broncos Team in the past… I just want them to fix the middle of the Defense so we can be competitive when it really counts… the Postseason
bt, I refer you back to your 11:38 post. and that is not the first negative nancy post you have made this season. that is all well and good, but last year you were gung-ho.
why the change?
Alex, that post was not negative. Just a factual observation backed by stats. I’m still as Gung-Ho as ever, I just see some issues that will keep this team from getting to where we were told as fans we were going…
I obviously disagreed with many of the FO’s moves this off-season, which as a paying fan I have the right to express my feelings. I won’t ever change the conviction for which I love my Football team, but circumstances have dictated that I express my fandom a little differently for now
in reality we have at worst an average -i think a little above average- dline. bannan, ayers, vickerson, wolfe, doom. not too many teams are fielding better than that.
and that expression is Skeptical Pessimism for now until I see something that changes that
