Broncos Nominated for Weekly Awards

November 22nd, 2011 - 10:37am by Stuart Zaas

The Broncos are up for a pair of weekly awards following the team’s 17-13 win over the Jets in Week 11.

Linebacker Von Miller is nominated for the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week Award after posting a team-high 10 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and four quarterback hits against the Jets. Miller leads all NFL rookies and ranks fifth among all players with 9.5 sacks this season.

Fans can vote for Miller until 10 a.m. MST on Friday. The winner will be announced on NFL Total Access on NFL Network and on NFL.com on Friday.

In addition, the Broncos game-winning 95-yard dive in the final minutes against the Jets has been nominated for the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Week Award.

The award is given for the best moment or play of the week that represents determination and perseverance.

The Broncos won the award in Week 7 for their come-from-behind victory over Miami as well as in Week 11 for their late touchdown to seal the win at Kansas City.

Each week’s winner will be stacked up against the 16 other Never Say Never weekly winners at the end of the season to determine the GMC Never Say Never Moment of the Year. At the conclusion of the regular season, fans can log onto NFL.com/gmc to vote throughout January for their favorite Moment of the Year among the 17 candidates.

how ironic would it be if Orton ended up back in Chicago and Denver & Tebow beat the Bears in the SuperBowl. LOL

  2. baylinorcrush says:

The highest you can get is usually a third, but there was only one of those last year, most of them are 6th or 7th and a couple of 5s maybe. 90% of them are at the end of the 7th if that helps.

  3. baylinorcrush says:

    Thanks gabe, we try.

  4. alexanserg says:

I generally depends on performance. Like if a player starts x number of games, or if he averages x number of yards per game. etc.

  5. josephjjp69 says:

So i wonder who is taking the team captain role?????

  6. Bronco_Turtle says:

gabe… You wanna play the prediction game? Bay has the rules… kinda fun

  7. alexanserg says:

    it*

  8. strandoftds says:

The only RB`s I know of right now unemployed are Portis, Lendale White and Buckhalter.

  9. baylinorcrush says:

A 6th at best for Hillis I would think with his lackluster performance this year would be my guess. Thanks McD.

  10. alexanserg says:

Heh good point. Usually team captains don’t get cut mid season

  11. RH709 says:

Remember that Quan Cosby did not dress for the Jets game.
W/O Kyle Orton, Cosby dresses. Who they find from the PS to fill the roster spot is beyond me but don’t expect any names you have actually heard of.

I like Quan. He has been a good return man. Throw Royal or Vaughn in every once in a while to keep it interesting.

  12. josephjjp69 says:

No more orton coin tosses when he isnt even playing sounds good….

  13. baylinorcrush says:

McGahee for captain, have been asking for that for a while now, come on Bronco players, vote McGahee captain!

  14. Broncfalls says:

If a Orton jersey was $8 when he was on the team in the pro shop what is it now…..$4.99 LOL?

Attention Broncos pro shop….rip the name off all Orton jersey’s, put a 5 in front of the 8 and watch em’ fly!

    GO GET EM’ BOYS!

  15. Orange_Crusher says:

Yeah, I guess “hate” was a little too strong of a word….

Sorry about that. I was still a little over excited after doing my extreme Irish Jigging and all…. lol

  16. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

I know it doesnt mean anything at all, but i think its kinda funny how Elwaysgave a plain “no” answer when asked if Timmy had shown him any evidence on there long term qb, and he cuts orton the very next day. lol

Itd be hilarious if Elway is just laughing behind the scenes cause he already knows. Fat chance but possible.

  17. gabeharter says:

score prediction?! sure. and bay i meant maybe in the draft if one fell at a good spot. I think your ryte… i am a Huge Tebow fan and think his game is elite in most areas but his passing as a qb needs to improve. I think it will with his hard work …. if we keep winning and our John Fox n John Elway get behind him and support him 100 % which wont happen unless we win enough to get us out of position to draft a gd qb. Elway is set on drafting a qb and its up to Tebow to show him he doesnt need to.

  18. baylinorcrush says:

This is Klis about Orton and it does look like it was aimed at him going back to the Bears:

The Broncos waived quarterback Kyle Orton, team executive vice president John Elway announced today, ending his run with the team.

Orton and his agent David Dunn had started talking to Broncos officials about the move after it was learned Chicago Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a broken thumb on his right passing thumb Sunday that will likely sideline him for the rest of the season.

    Orton has declined to comment.

Broncos coach John Fox said in a statement:

“This was the right decision for our football team. We feel good about our quarterback group, and this gives Kyle an opportunity to help another team and showcase his talents.”

  19. baylinorcrush says:

    However:

The waiver process can be tricky as other NFL teams ranked ahead of the Bears — such as the Kansas City Chiefs — could place a claim on Orton.

  20. baylinorcrush says:

Either way it looks like Von Doom may very well go knock his clock this season.

  21. alexanserg says:

I tend to disagree with the notion that you can read anything into PC stuff. As has been mentioned before, even if Elway knew for a fact that the Organization was going with tebow next year no matter what, he would still want to play that close to the vest so as not to show his cards concerning draft strategy, etc.

Bottom line, regardles of what he really things, he is gonna continue coach speak about how Tebow is improving, still needs to improve, and he hasn’t really proven anything yet till the final game of the season and most of the offseason.

  22. gabeharter says:

i would love for kc to get Orton off of waivers… our D would ‘preciate the easy picks and fumbling and choking in red zone that he seems to showcase… as skills haha

  23. Bronco_Turtle says:

    ***EXRTA EXTRA***

Von Doom Bringing the BOOM BOOM to KO the KO…

  24. alexanserg says:

    really thinks*

  25. gabeharter says:

alex i hope ur ryte! if he is just using his comments as motivation for Tebow and strategy for draft picks that’d b awesome

  26. brian_schneider says:

..or Orton would totally shred our defense and make us look like fools again.

  27. BeastFromEast92 says:

    Gabe.Thanks for the props.

  28. gabeharter says:

ko just got ko’d courtesy of 58. haha

  29. alexanserg says:

With our pass rush? Orton will not finish the game.

  30. baylinorcrush says:

I doubt the Chiefs go for Orton since their season is seemingly going nowhere, a good time to bring that Palko along since they don’t really believe in Cassel, the Bears on the other hand are in the playoff race and could use someone like Orton real bad, I think he’ll go to the Bears.

  31. BeastFromEast92 says:

Man booting Orton sure did liven up the blog, lol.

  32. alexanserg says:

Say KC does get KO, and he is the starter for the rematch. Would that be the first time ever a team lost two starting QBs to IR to the same team (same player no less).

Guess since it is weak 17 that would be impossible though.

  33. brian_schneider says:

At least we have something else to talk about other than Tebow. haha

  34. alexanserg says:

most exciting thing Orton has done for the Broncos in years lol.

  35. TheHorseWhisperer7 says:

If the chiefs werent the chiefs theyd realize that orton is an upgrade from cassel lol, unless there going for a qb via draft

  36. BeastFromEast92 says:

    true!

  37. Bronco_Turtle says:

Bay… I think Palko is a stop gap for KC at best… he is on his fourth team in 4 years… He may pull a Kitna and find a place to start but I don’t think he has long term potential…

  38. baylinorcrush says:

Can you imagine, we got rid of Orton and the monkey in the same day, on Scarlett Johansson’s birthday no less, a sweet 27 year old now.

  39. BeastFromEast92 says:

KC thought Cassell was better than Cutler!

  40. gabeharter says:

As a huge Tebow fan i think we should all take a moment and thank the Denver D 4 keeping us in games which has helped Tebow stay the starter and showcase what he brings to the table. I love how miller has been playing all year….. continues to improve. I think 92 is just getting healthy and or adjusted to DA’s system. DA is the biggest improvement to the broncos D i believe! Champ is champ and Dawk can still put the hurt on anyone coming his way. wesley and mays and dj all putting some in. i like what the rookie safeties have been doing i hope they just continue to improve. our dt’s looked the best against the jets! i am excited i hope they keep it up in SD!

  41. alexanserg says:

    What monkey?

And yeah, Scarlett Johansson is one of the most stunning women on the planet.

  42. BeastFromEast92 says:

    LMAO@Bay

  43. josephjjp69 says:

Mcgahee for captain would be greatly deserved imo. And if he does go to the bears i hope our defense doesnt take it easy on him since he might actually b friends with some of them.

  44. baylinorcrush says:

Probably right Turtle, but neither does Orton, I honestly think the Chiefs will cut their losses and move on without taking a shot at Orton.

  45. daddybronc says:

Educated fans – If Bears P/U Orton? why? I thought Hanie was next up and a good QB waiting his chance?

    I know nothing about Hanie.

    Help with the run down.

  46. BeastFromEast92 says:

Gabe….Dennis Allen being a previous DB coach has helped out with Dawks play,he is rejuvinated!!!
Still slow on coverage, but a Helluva lot better than he was last year, imo.

  47. alexanserg says:

The main reason I want the broncos to win a SB soon is for Champ and Dawk. Both those guys NEED to have rings when they retire. They deserve it.

Given their respective careers it would be a travesty for either one of them to retire without one.

Especially dawk since he has NEVER been on a championship team. From pop warner on up. For a player amongst the best ever at his position to have never one a championship EVER. That is just wrong.

  48. Bronco_Turtle says:

Agreed.. he is a bad fit there for many reasons… mostly the price tag, like everyone else I think that he will end up in Chi, but I heard the that Houston has priority on the waiver…

we will know tomorrow at 2 pm our time… that is when the Waiver period is over on him!

    :o )

  49. baylinorcrush says:

There was only one monkey on this blog the one of the orange and blue color kind, you’re kind of slow today alex, what’s going on, LOL, first the Orton could care less about fans thing now the monkey?

  50. since1972 says:

Probably a bad time to get my pick in with the Orton news and all but have to get it in sometime. Can’t get a good feel for this one so Broncos 20 chargers 17
