The Broncos on Monday announced several roster moves.
The club acquired defensive lineman Le Kevin Smith from the New England Patriots in a trade that included undisclosed draft choices. The team also signed free-agent running back Marcus Thigpen and waived defensive lineman Rulon Davis along with guard Pat Murray.
Smith is a fourth-year player who spent his first three NFL seasons with the Patriots, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of Nebraska. He has played 31 career games, totaling 25 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Last season, Smith — a former Nebraska Cornhusker — appeared in 15 games for New England and posted a career-best 21 tackles and one fumble recovery.
Meanwhile, Thigpen is a rookie running back who joins the Broncos after he was waived by Philadelphia on Aug. 4. The 5-foot-9, 193 pounder entered the NFL with the Eagles on May 1 as a college free agent from the University of Indiana.
During his four-year tenure with the Hoosiers, Thigpen became the first player in school history with more than 1,000 career rushing yards, receiving yards and kickoff return yards.

im a nebraska fan so i can speak for him when i say this is a good move, he has the knowledge to play any position on the d line. awesome 3 huskers now 0 last year. i hope swift makes it, he works hard.

I really like what GM Brian Xanders is doing with waivered players. McBean was from Pittsburgh (great defense) and now Smith from NE (great defense).
Putting quality 3-4 defensive players at Coach Nolan and McDaniels hands. Both HAS to see this big opportunity to start.
Why does this site always post news like this really late? I already read about this on broncotalk.net. The undisclosed draft pick was a 5th round pick. We also received a 7th round pick in the trade.

Looks like the Raiders have peaked in their disfunctionality early. If the reports are true, HC Cable punched an assistant coach. Whether or not this resulted in a broken jaw is still to be determined. What a sad state for a once proud franchise.
DLMyers: Xanders had nothing to do with the McBean signing he was on the practice squad all of last year after being waived by the Steelers.

Ya Eli looks like he has to fart. But When we traded away cutler we also traded away 18 ints and a few fumbles. So we pretty much traded away 20+ turnovers for two 1st round draft picks pretty good deal for us.
i think his only problem was he wanted to throw to marshall evry pass. royal’s proven he could be just as good in a few years

but, both our quarterbacks are better than orton, simms, and the rookie from fresno combined! and, we play denver this year, so that’ll be a free win

Which means only one thing… come December 27th he will be pounding your QBs into the ground time and time again. dont waste your time defending our team when bitter loser fans come to our website. They get jealous because we take away the heart and sole of their team, which in this case was dawkins, just ignore him. I love how when we lose a player, we can let him go, and either A) respect them if they left in an honorable way (AL WILSON), or hate their guts if they are a Loser (cutler), and leave it at that. But other fans follow their leaders to our team and talk trash with nothing to back it up. Dawkins is gonna flat out level McNabb, give him his yearly excuse to sit out, and then level Vick. And he will do it in front of losers like this who go to the game. Because of their strange obsession. Awkward Turtle….

CARAMELLOO, we got Smith from New England. He is a DE (LE) and can play the 5 technique. Yes, he is worth it. He will make a difference and add depth to the team (he may even start).
trigger73, you can be fairly certain that come the start of regular season, Moreno will be the #1 RB. He just needs to heal and get the reps in. Bucky’s #1 right now because he has put the work and reps in. It won’t last (positioning).

Knowshon out for at least 2 weeks maube he should be at the top of the depth chart much like B-mash should have been while he was in cort ! Davis was a feal good story but was a long shot at best to make the team good move good trade and i forget who was talkin smack about our D but give it a rest dont belive the hype orten turns the ball over 3 times and all thay got was 10 thats not bad not bad at all!!!!!

I agree, I think the Defense looked good too. he best part was that more than just one of the D-line got some sack. Seriously! I think they are all learning; but it showed that we have a couple of decent NT. Am I wrong? A few communication issues in the secondary to work out. I am sure that will happen. And not to put on rose colored glasses but the Offense got down to the redzone effieciently. We shall see.

Although in all honesty the front seven seemed to be the line that excelled the most on friday. Hope this new RB can put the dash in our smash and dash. I think LeKevin Smith’s a player, although it’s sad that Rulon’s gone. Come what may, the Broncos are going to be a postseason team. The time has come to dethrone Queer Felipe and the San Diego Super Sparklers. As always, GO BRONCOS!!!

our offense will be what our defense was last year i think our defense will get alot more sacks…because of dumerville and alot more ints because of that sick secondary we will have when fully healthy…

Smith wasn’t a NE reject, the Broncos got him in a trade that the teams worked out. McD must have seen something in him that he likes. Let’s hope he tears it up for us.

TheRoyalBroncos, Cutler gave up 18 INT’s and 6 fumbles that directly led to 79 points given up!
Rulon Davis was the feal good story of the Season, It would’ve been nice to see Him achieve His goals and be that guy the whole city embraced but reality sets in and Coach McDaniels will put the best players on the field no matter what position. I for one am looking forward to a much improved TEAM because of this.
Now if The Broncos would run the ball more on first down especially early in the game.
